beseech_v you_o observe_v it_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o that_o a_o thing_n be_v not_o forbid_v and_o what_o hurt_n be_v there_o in_o it_o but_o it_o must_v be_v command_v i_o confess_v in_o matter_n that_o be_v civil_a and_o natural_a there_o this_o may_v be_v enough_o if_o it_o be_v but_o according_a to_o the_o rule_n of_o prudence_n and_o not_o forbid_v in_o the_o word_n we_o may_v make_v use_n of_o this_o in_o civil_a and_o natural_a thing_n but_o now_o when_o we_o come_v to_o matter_n of_o religion_n and_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n we_o must_v either_o have_v a_o command_n or_o somewhat_o out_o of_o god_n word_n by_o some_o consequence_n draw_v from_o some_o command_n wherein_o god_n manifest_v his_o will_n either_o a_o direct_a command_n or_o by_o compare_v one_o thing_n with_o another_o or_o draw_v consequence_n plain_o from_o the_o word_n we_o must_v have_v a_o warrant_n for_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n one_o will_v have_v think_v that_o these_o priest_n offer_v incense_n to_o the_o true_a god_n what_o hurt_n be_v there_o in_o take_v other_o fire_n but_o there_o be_v no_o command_n for_o it_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o accept_v it_o be_v true_a there_o be_v some_o thing_n in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n that_o be_v natural_a and_o civil_a help_n and_o there_o we_o need_v not_o have_v any_o command_n as_o for_o instance_n when_o we_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n the_o congregation_n meet_v they_o must_v have_v a_o convenient_a place_n to_o keep_v the_o air_n and_o weather_n from_o they_o now_o this_o be_v but_o a_o natural_a help_n and_o so_o far_o as_o i_o use_v the_o place_n of_o worship_n as_o a_o natural_a help_n i_o need_v have_v no_o command_n but_o if_o i_o will_v put_v any_o thing_n in_o a_o place_n beyond_o what_o it_o have_v in_o its_o own_o nature_n there_o i_o must_v look_v for_o a_o command_n for_o if_o i_o account_v one_o place_n more_o holy_a than_o another_o or_o to_o think_v that_o god_n shall_v accept_v of_o worship_n in_o one_o place_n rather_o than_o in_o another_o this_o be_v to_o raise_v it_o above_o what_o it_o be_v in_o its_o own_o nature_n so_o that_o when_o any_o creature_n be_v raise_v in_o a_o religious_a way_n above_o what_o it_o have_v in_o it_o by_o nature_n if_o i_o have_v not_o scripture_n to_o warrant_v i_o i_o be_o therein_o superstitious_a it_o be_v a_o very_a useful_a rule_n for_o to_o help_v you_o if_o any_o creature_n that_o you_o make_v any_o use_n of_o in_o away_o of_o religion_n beyond_o what_o it_o have_v in_o its_o own_o nature_n if_o you_o have_v not_o some_o warrant_n from_o the_o word_n of_o god_n whatsoever_o specious_a show_n there_o may_v be_v in_o it_o it_o be_v superstition_n as_o now_o for_o the_o place_n there_o be_v a_o place_n that_o be_v holy_a but_o than_o it_o have_v a_o institution_n from_o god_n and_o so_o for_o garment_n to_o use_v those_o that_o be_v decent_a the_o light_n of_o reason_n be_v enough_o but_o if_o i_o will_v put_v any_o thing_n upon_o they_o beyond_o what_o there_o be_v in_o they_o in_o their_o own_o nature_n as_o heretofore_o in_o a_o surplis_fw-la what_o have_v that_o any_o more_o decency_n in_o its_o own_o nature_n but_o only_o man_n institution_n now_o when_o man_n shall_v put_v a_o religious_a respect_n upon_o a_o thing_n by_o virtue_n of_o his_o own_o institution_n when_o he_o have_v not_o a_o warrant_n from_o god_n here_o be_v superstition_n we_o must_v all_o be_v willing_a worshipper_n but_o no_o wil-worshipper_n we_o must_v come_v free_o to_o worship_n god_n but_o we_o must_v not_o worship_n god_n according_a to_o our_o own_o will_n and_o therefore_o what_o ever_o we_o do_v in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n if_o we_o have_v

off_o there_o there_o may_v be_v pride_n not_o only_o from_o one_o part_n but_o it_o may_v be_v god_n have_v give_v i_o enlargement_n in_o prayer_n the_o devil_n will_v come_v in_o and_o seek_v to_o puff_n up_o thy_o heart_n even_o because_o of_o this_o but_o thy_o heart_n must_v be_v take_v off_o there_o and_o thou_o must_v deny_v thyself_o in_o all_o when_o thou_o have_v do_v the_o best_a heart_n puff_v up_o even_o through_o the_o assistance_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n 5_o last_o thou_o must_v come_v with_o a_o humble_a resignation_n of_o thyself_o to_o god_n to_o be_v content_a to_o wait_v upon_o god_n as_o long_o as_o he_o please_v to_o wait_v upon_o god_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o time_n and_o of_o the_o measure_n and_o of_o the_o though_o at_o the_o last_o hour_n this_o now_o be_v a_o humble_a heart_n in_o prayer_n and_o when_o we_o come_v with_o such_o a_o poverty_n of_o spirit_n as_o this_o be_v we_o may_v expect_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v accept_v of_o we_o give_v this_o poor_a man_n somewhat_o will_v god_n say_v this_o poor_a man_n cry_v and_o the_o lord_n hear_v he_o in_o the_o seven_o place_n we_o must_v bring_v that_o which_o be_v god_n own_o in_o sanctify_a god_n name_v i_o speak_v to_o this_o before_o in_o the_o point_n of_o preparation_n viz._n that_o in_o god_n worship_n we_o must_v give_v he_o his_o own_o i_o will_v only_o mention_v it_o here_o in_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_v in_o two_o regard_n 1_o first_o to_o give_v god_n his_o own_o for_o the_o matter_n of_o it_o 2_o second_o to_o give_v god_n his_o own_o that_o be_v what_o come_v from_o the_o work_n of_o his_o own_o spirit_n or_o else_o we_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n i_o will_v give_v you_o one_o text_n further_o about_o the_o matter_n of_o it_o in_o exod._n 39_o if_o you_o read_v the_o chapter_n you_o shall_v find_v that_o there_o be_v ten_o time_n say_v that_o they_o do_v as_o god_n have_v command_v moses_n and_o then_o in_o the_o close_a of_o the_o chapter_n when_o they_o have_v do_v as_o god_n have_v command_v in_o his_o worship_n the_o text_n say_v moses_n bless_v they_o that_o people_n be_v a_o bless_a people_n that_o do_v observe_v the_o worship_n of_o god_n as_o god_n have_v command_v they_o but_o the_o main_a thing_n be_v all_o that_o we_o do_v it_o must_v act_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o have_v true_a silver_n and_o gold_n but_o it_o must_v have_v the_o right_a stamp_n or_o else_o it_o can_v go_v for_o current_a coin_n and_o so_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o that_o the_o thing_n that_o we_o offer_v to_o god_n in_o his_o worship_n be_v god_n own_o be_v what_o we_o have_v warrant_n for_o out_o of_o god_n word_n but_o it_o must_v have_v the_o stamp_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n there_o be_v two_o question_n that_o he_o will_v ask_v first_o who_o require_v this_o at_o your_o hand_n but_o then_o if_o you_o can_v answer_v thus_o thou_o o_o lord_n do_v require_v it_o it_o be_v well_o but_o then_o god_n have_v another_o question_n who_o image_n and_o superscription_n be_v this_o if_o thou_o can_v not_o give_v a_o answer_n to_o that_o it_o will_v be_v reject_v too_o thou_o must_v be_v act_v by_o divine_a principle_n in_o all_o that_o thou_o do_v there_o must_v be_v the_o stamp_n of_o the_o spirit_n upon_o that_o which_o be_v tender_v to_o god_n else_o it_o be_v nothing_o to_o open_v this_o point_n full_o will_v ask_v some_o time_n first_o therefore_o i_o will_v show_v you_o how_o we_o may_v know_v when_o our_o duty_n be_v act_v by_o our_o natural_a part_n rather_o than_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n second_o how_o we_o may_v know_v whether_o our_o duty_n be_v act_v by_o natural_a conscience_n rather_o than_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n 1_o first_o if_o thou_o be_v act_v by_o natural_a part_n they_o will_v not_o change_v thy_o heart_n man_n that_o do_v perform_v duty_n by_o the_o strength_n of_o natural_a part_n they_o may_v be_v as_o large_a as_o other_o and_o speak_v to_o the_o edification_n of_o other_o but_o those_o duty_n do_v never_o change_v their_o heart_n now_o if_o thou_o be_v actd_a by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n thou_o will_v be_v change_v into_o the_o very_a image_n of_o his_o spirit_n 2_o second_o if_o man_n be_v act_v by_o natural_a part_n they_o will_v not_o carry_v they_o through_o difficulty_n and_o discouragement_n but_o now_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n if_o thou_o have_v act_v by_o he_o though_o thou_o do_v meet_v with_o never_o such_o difficulty_n and_o discouragement_n thou_o will_v be_v carry_v through_o they_o all_o 3_o thou_o may_v know_v it_o by_o this_o wherein_o do_v thou_o account_v the_o excellency_n of_o a_o duty_n to_o consist_v either_o in_o thyself_o or_o other_o thou_o perform_v a_o duty_n now_o it_o may_v be_v thy_o part_n do_v act_v very_o lively_a and_o to_o thy_o credit_n and_o yet_o thy_o conscience_n tell_v thou_o that_o thy_o heart_n be_v streighten_v now_o can_v thou_o rise_v up_o with_o joy_n because_o thou_o have_v thy_o end_n at_o another_o time_n perhaps_o thy_o heart_n be_v more_o trouble_v and_o break_v but_o thou_o do_v not_o express_v thyself_o so_o much_o than_o thou_o be_v discourage_v and_o when_o thou_o see_v another_o perform_v a_o duty_n if_o thou_o see_v but_o any_o fail_n in_o their_o expression_n thou_o pitche_v upon_o that_o and_o look_v upon_o it_o as_o a_o poor_a thing_n thou_o be_v not_o able_a to_o see_v a_o excellency_n in_o holy_a duty_n except_o there_o be_v a_o excellency_n of_o natural_a part_n but_o those_o that_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n they_o can_v find_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n act_v in_o other_o though_o they_o have_v not_o such_o natural_a part_n 4_o those_o that_o be_v act_v by_o their_o natural_a part_n in_o secret_a they_o be_v less_o enlarge_v than_o they_o be_v before_o other_o a_o great_a deal_n their_o part_n act_n much_o before_o other_o but_o what_o be_v there_o between_o god_n and_o their_o own_o soul_n 5_o they_o that_o be_v so_o act_v will_v not_o be_v very_o constant_a you_o shall_v have_v young_a one_o that_o begin_v to_o look_v towards_o religion_n their_o part_n be_v a_o little_a fresh_a and_o they_o be_v mighty_o enlarge_v in_o holy_a duty_n and_o the_o thing_n be_v good_a for_o they_o to_o make_v use_n of_o their_o part_n but_o how_o ordinary_a it_o be_v that_o after_o a_o few_o year_n they_o be_v
dead_a and_o dull_a than_o they_o be_v before_o and_o have_v less_o mind_n to_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n than_o they_o have_v former_o be_v this_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n you_o will_v find_v as_o much_o savour_n and_o relish_v in_o they_o afterward_o as_o there_o be_v at_o that_o time_n second_o for_o natural_a conscience_n which_o sometime_o put_v man_n upon_o act_v of_o duty_n and_o indeed_o be_v better_a than_o mere_o natural_a part_n 1_o if_o it_o be_v only_o natural_a conscience_n it_o put_v upon_o duty_n but_o give_v no_o strength_n to_o do_v they_o but_o when_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n put_v thou_o upon_o a_o duty_n it_o give_v thou_o some_o strength_n to_o perform_v it_o some_o strength_n whereby_o thou_o get_v some_o communion_n with_o god_n 2._o if_o it_o be_v natural_a conscience_n it_o put_v upon_o the_o duty_n but_o make_v not_o the_o heart_n glad_a of_o the_o duty_n and_o to_o love_v the_o duty_n but_o if_o it_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n it_o make_v thou_o to_o delight_v in_o it_o and_o to_o love_v it_o 3_o three_o if_o it_o be_v natural_a conscience_n thou_o do_v not_o by_o that_o increase_n thy_o communion_n with_o god_n thou_o do_v a_o little_a converse_n with_o god_n at_o first_o when_o god_n begin_v to_o acquaint_v my_o soul_n with_o his_o way_n but_o through_o his_o mercy_n now_o i_o find_v more_o communion_n with_o he_o and_o so_o thou_o can_v bless_v thyself_o in_o god_n in_o that_o converse_n that_o thou_o have_v in_o communion_n with_o he_o thou_o will_v not_o lose_v that_o communion_n thou_o have_v with_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n for_o all_o the_o world_n other_o have_v their_o companion_n that_o they_o have_v their_o communion_n withal_o much_o good_a may_v do_v they_o but_o the_o lord_n have_v show_v i_o another_o manner_n of_o communion_n which_o my_o soul_n can_v have_v with_o himself_o in_o which_o it_o have_v sweet_a satisfaction_n and_o thus_o you_o have_v have_v seven_o particular_n for_o the_o gracious_a heart_n be_v in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n worship_n it_o find_v the_o very_a duty_n of_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n to_o be_v strength_n to_o it_o and_o so_o it_o fit_v it_o for_o another_o duty_n 5_o further_n a_o natural_a conscience_n limit_n its_o self_n and_o be_v bound_v that_o be_v so_o much_o as_o will_v serve_v the_o turn_n for_o it_o be_v own_o peace_n and_o quiet_a so_o much_o it_o will_v do_v and_o no_o more_o but_o when_o one_o be_v act_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n one_o be_v enlarge_v without_o any_o limit_n at_o all_o not_o bound_v to_o one_o own_o peace_n for_o the_o more_o peace_n a_o gracious_a heart_n have_v in_o duty_n the_o more_o it_o be_v enlarge_v in_o duty_n now_o a_o natural_a conscience_n that_o put_v to_o duty_n and_o will_v act_v you_o when_o you_o want_v peace_n when_o you_o be_v in_o trouble_n and_o fear_n but_o when_o you_o be_v not_o in_o trouble_n and_o fear_n than_o it_o put_v not_o on_o the_o heart_n to_o performance_n of_o duty_n but_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n put_v on_o the_o soul_n to_o duty_n when_o there_o be_v most_o peace_n and_o comfort_n 6_o a_o little_a will_v serve_v the_o turn_n to_o satisfy_v a_o natural_a conscience_n so_o be_v it_o they_o perform_v the_o duty_n it_o be_v enough_o but_o one_o that_o be_v act_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o duty_n must_v meet_v with_o much_o of_o god_n or_o else_o he_o be_v not_o satisfy_v he_o go_v mourn_v in_o the_o day_n time_n if_o he_o have_v not_o meet_v with_o much_o of_o god_n in_o the_o morning_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o duty_n thus_o you_o see_v there_o be_v much_o difference_n between_o the_o act_n of_o natural_a part_n and_o conscience_n in_o duty_n and_o the_o act_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n there_o be_v only_o now_o two_o thing_n more_o for_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o duty_n and_o then_o we_o be_v to_o come_v to_o show_v how_o we_o shall_v sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o duty_n in_o reference_n to_o the_o several_a attribute_n of_o god_n but_o first_o for_o those_o two_o head_n further_o 8_o the_o eight_o thing_n be_v this_o when_o you_o come_v to_o perform_v holy_a duty_n if_o you_o will_v sanctify_v god_n
