christ_n give_v himself_o for_o we_o this_o will_v transform_v we_o to_o love_n god_n when_o we_o see_v the_o humility_n and_o obedience_n of_o christ_n when_o we_o look_v on_o christ_n as_o god_n choose_a servant_n in_o all_o this_o and_o as_o our_o surety_n and_o head_n it_o transform_v we_o to_o the_o like_a humility_n and_o obedience_n those_o that_o find_v not_o their_o disposition_n in_o and_o guide_v we_o and_o to_o dwell_v in_o we_o continual_o to_o stir_v up_o prayer_n and_o supplication_n in_o we_o to_o make_v we_o cry_v familiar_o to_o god_n as_o to_o a_o father_n to_o comfort_v and_o support_v we_o in_o all_o our_o want_n and_o misery_n as_o he_o do_v christ_n to_o help_v our_o infirmity_n as_o the_o apostle_n at_o large_a in_o rom._n 8._o set_n down_o the_o excellent_a office_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n what_o he_o do_v in_o those_o that_o be_v christ_n let_v we_o therefore_o examine_v ourselves_o what_o the_o spirit_n do_v in_o we_o if_o christ_n be_v set_v apart_o to_o redeem_v we_o as_o a_o priest_n sure_o all_o his_o office_n go_v together_o he_o do_v by_o the_o same_o spirit_n rule_v we_o rev._n 1_o he_o have_v wash_v we_o in_o his_o blood_n and_o make_v his_o base_a corruption_n we_o may_v know_v then_o whether_o we_o have_v benefit_n by_o christ_n by_o his_o spirit_n not_o only_o by_o the_o spirit_n witness_v that_o we_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n but_o by_o some_o argument_n whereby_o the_o spirit_n may_v witness_v without_o delusion_n for_o though_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n tell_v we_o that_o we_o be_v christ_n yet_o the_o proof_n must_v be_v from_o guide_v and_o lead_v and_o comfort_v and_o conform_v we_o to_o jesus_n christ_n in_o make_v we_o king_n and_o prophet_n enlighten_v our_o understanding_n to_o know_v his_o will_n and_o conform_v we_o to_o be_v like_o he_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n be_v a_o spirit_n of_o power_n and_o strength_n it_o will_v enable_v we_o to_o perform_v duty_n above_o nature_n to_o overcome_v ourselves_o and_o injury_n it_o will_v make_v we_o to_o want_n and_o to_o abound_v it_o will_v make_v we_o able_a to_o live_v and_o to_o die_v as_o it_o enable_v christ_n to_o do_v thing_n that_o another_o man_n can_v not_o do_v so_o a_o christian_n can_v do_v that_o and_o suffer_v that_o that_o another_o man_n can_v do_v and_o suffer_v because_o he_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ._n at_o the_o least_o whosoever_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n he_o shall_v find_v that_o spirit_n in_o he_o strive_v against_o that_o which_o be_v contrary_a and_o by_o little_a and_o little_o get_v ground_n where_o there_o be_v no_o conflict_n there_o be_v
persuade_v the_o soul_n first_o of_o the_o love_n and_o favour_n of_o god_n in_o christ._n what_o be_v all_o our_o performance_n if_o they_o be_v not_o out_o of_o love_n to_o god_n and_o how_o shall_v we_o love_v god_n except_o we_o be_v persuade_v that_o he_o love_v we_o first_o therefore_o the_o gospel_n breed_v love_n in_o we_o to_o god_n and_o have_v the_o spirit_n together_o with_o it_o work_v a_o bless_a frame_n of_o sanctification_n whereby_o we_o be_v dispose_v to_o every_o good_a duty_n therefore_o if_o we_o will_v have_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n let_v we_o attend_v upon_o the_o thing_n christ_n be_v obscure_v thereupon_o they_o be_v dark_a age_n those_o age_n wherein_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v most_o be_v where_o christ_n be_v most_o preach_v and_o people_n be_v best_a always_o where_o there_o be_v most_o spirit_n and_o they_o be_v most_o joyful_a and_o comfortable_a and_o holy_a where_o christ_n be_v true_o lay_v open_a to_o the_o heart_n of_o people_n the_o peach_v of_o mere_a morality_n if_o man_n be_v not_o careful_a to_o open_a christ_n to_o know_v how_o salvation_n be_v wrought_v by_o christ_n and_o how_o all_o good_a come_v by_o christ_n it_o will_v never_o make_v a_o man_n perfect_o good_a and_o fit_v he_o for_o heaven_n it_o may_v make_v a_o man_n reform_v many_o abuse_n like_o a_o philosopher_n which_o have_v its_o reward_n and_o respect_n among_o man_n but_o nothing_o to_o give_v comfort_n at_o the_o hour_n of_o death_n and_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n only_o that_o whereby_o the_o spirit_n be_v convey_v be_v the_o knowledge_n and_o preach_v of_o christ_n in_o his_o state_n and_o office_n obedience_n again_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n be_v give_v in_o obedience_n to_o this_o gospel_n act_n 5.32_o he_o give_v the_o holy_a have_v gracious_a motion_n offer_v they_o but_o then_o they_o do_v not_o obey_v they_o therefore_o the_o spirit_n seize_v not_o upon_o they_o to_o rule_v in_o they_o they_o have_v the_o spirit_n but_o their_o heart_n be_v not_o subdue_v to_o obedience_n not_o to_o constant_a obedience_n therefore_o if_o we_o will_v have_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n let_v we_o labour_n to_o subject_v ourselves_o unto_o it_o when_o we_o have_v any_o good_a motion_n by_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n or_o by_o conference_n or_o by_o read_v of_o good_a thing_n as_o holy_a thing_n have_v a_o savour_n in_o they_o the_o spirit_n breathe_v in_o holy_a exercise_n oh_o give_v way_n to_o the_o motion_n of_o god_n spirit_n we_o shall_v not_o have_v they_o again_o perhaps_o turn_v not_o back_o those_o bless_a messenger_n let_v we_o entertain_v they_o let_v the_o spirit_n dwell_v and_o rule_v in_o we_o it_o be_v the_o most_o bless_a lodger_n that_o ever_o we_o entertain_v in_o all_o our_o life_n if_o we_o let_v the_o spirit_n guide_v and_o rule_v we_o it_o will_v lead_v we_o and_o govern_v and_o support_v we_o in_o life_n and_o death_n and_o never_o leave_v we_o till_o it_o have_v heaven_n this_o be_v the_o state_n of_o those_o that_o belong_v to_o god_n that_o give_v way_n to_o the_o motion_n of_o god_n spirit_n to_o rule_v and_o guide_v they_o therefore_o if_o we_o will_v have_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n let_v we_o take_v heed_n of_o rebel_a against_o it_o this_o be_v the_o state_n of_o many_o of_o we_o the_o lord_n be_v merciful_a to_o we_o and_o cure_v we_o that_o we_o do_v not_o only_o not_o receive_v the_o motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n deep_o into_o we_o but_o if_o they_o be_v such_o a_o cross_n we_o in_o our_o pleasure_n and_o profit_n though_o the_o word_n and_o spirit_n join_v together_o there_o be_v a_o rise_n of_o the_o proud_a spirit_n of_o man_n against_o so_o much_o of_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o motion_n of_o it_o and_o against_o such_o part_n of_o the_o word_n as_o cross_v we_o this_o will_v be_v lay_v heavy_a to_o our_o charge_n one_o day_n that_o we_o will_v bring_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n to_o our_o corruption_n and_o not_o bring_v our_o heart_n to_o god_n spirit_n and_o hereupon_o be_v those_o phrase_n in_o the_o scripture_n of_o tempt_v the_o spirit_n ananias_n and_o saphira_n tempt_v the_o spirit_n that_o be_v when_o man_n will_v do_v that_o which_o be_v naught_o and_o try_v whether_o god_n will_v forgive_v they_o and_o put_v it_o off_o or_o no_o how_o many_o be_v there_o that_o tempt_v the_o spirit_n that_o put_v it_o off_o perhaps_o i_o shall_v have_v the_o like_a motion_n another_o time_n i_o shall_v have_v better_a occasion_n when_o i_o can_v gain_v no_o more_o when_o i_o can_v have_v my_o pleasure_n no_o more_o thus_o man_n resist_v the_o spirit_n as_o saint_n stephen_n say_v that_o be_v when_o the_o spirit_n discover_v to_o they_o what_o they_o shall_v believe_v and_o what_o they_o shall_v do_v and_o they_o see_v it_o cross_v their_o resolution_n to_o be_v naught_o hereupon_o they_o resist_v the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o else_o will_v close_v with_o their_o soul_n and_o sanctify_v they_o and_o present_o by_o some_o ill_a language_n or_o course_n of_o life_n they_o defile_v their_o vessel_n and_o quench_v the_o sweet_a motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n let_v we_o take_v heed_n of_o all_o these_o of_o tempt_v of_o resist_v and_o quench_v the_o spirit_n for_o undoubted_o live_v in_o the_o bosom_n of_o the_o church_n we_o have_v many_o heavenly_a motion_n especial_o those_o that_o have_v so_o much_o goodness_n in_o they_o as_o to_o attend_v upon_o god_n ordinance_n they_o have_v those_o motion_n at_o those_o time_n that_o they_o never_o have_v after_o perhaps_o
office_n in_o such_o pomp_n and_o noise_n as_o it_o be_v say_v of_o agrippa_n acts._n 25.23_o he_o come_v with_o great_a pomp_n so_o worldly_a prince_n carry_v thing_n thus_o and_o it_o be_v needful_a thing_n themselves_o will_v break_v forth_o to_o man_n eye_n and_o they_o must_v see_v our_o light_n shine_v then_o let_v they_o and_o imitate_v our_o good_a work_n but_o for_o we_o to_o blazon_v they_o abroad_o ourselves_o it_o be_v not_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ._n let_v we_o labour_n to_o have_v humility_n of_o spirit_n humility_n that_o that_o may_v grow_v up_o with_o we_o in_o all_o our_o performance_n that_o all_o thing_n that_o we_o speak_v and_o do_v may_v savour_v of_o a_o spirit_n of_o humility_n that_o we_o may_v seek_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n in_o all_o thing_n more_o than_o our_o own_o and_o let_v we_o commit_v the_o fame_n and_o credit_n of_o what_o we_o be_v or_o do_v to_o god_n he_o will_v take_v care_n of_o that_o let_v we_o take_v care_n to_o be_v and_o to_o do_v as_o we_o shall_v and_o then_o for_o noise_n and_o report_n let_v it_o be_v good_a or_o ill_a as_o god_n will_v send_v it_o we_o know_v oft_o time_n it_o fall_v out_o that_o that_o which_o be_v precious_a in_o man_n eye_n be_v abominable_a in_o god_n if_o we_o seek_v to_o be_v in_o the_o mouth_n of_o man_n to_o dwell_v in_o the_o talk_n and_o speech_n of_o man_n god_n will_v abhor_v we_o judgement_n of_o god_n therefore_o let_v we_o labour_n to_o be_v good_a in_o secret_n christian_n shall_v be_v as_o mineral_n rich_a in_o the_o depth_n of_o the_o earth_n that_o which_o be_v least_o see_v be_v his_o riches_n we_o shall_v have_v our_o treasure_n deep_a for_o the_o discovery_n of_o it_o we_o shall_v be_v ready_a when_o we_o be_v call_v to_o it_o and_o for_o all_o other_o accidental_a thing_n let_v they_o fall_v out_o as_o god_n in_o his_o wisdom_n see_v good_a so_o let_v we_o look_v through_o good_a report_n and_o bad_a report_n to_o heaven_n let_v we_o do_v the_o duty_n that_o be_v please_v to_o god_n and_o our_o own_o conscience_n and_o god_n will_v be_v careful_a enough_o to_o get_v we_o applause_n be_v it_o not_o sufficient_a for_o abel_n that_o though_o the_o truth_n of_o our_o heart_n and_o the_o grace_n of_o our_o inward_a man_n he_o see_v all_o these_o and_o he_o value_v we_o by_o these_o as_o he_o do_v abel_n as_o for_o outward_a thing_n there_o may_v be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o deceit_n in_o they_o and_o the_o more_o a_o man_n grow_v in_o grace_n the_o less_o he_o care_v for_o they_o as_o much_o reputation_n as_o be_v fit_a for_o a_o man_n
