have_v to_o withdraw_v we_o from_o the_o same_o and_o sometime_o of_o any_o particular_a branch_n of_o any_o of_o these_o and_o the_o corruption_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o of_o the_o christian_a armour_n of_o some_o of_o these_o or_o of_o the_o like_a matter_n let_v meditation_n be_v raise_v before_o prayer_n be_v enter_v into_o if_o it_o may_v be_v and_o because_o meditation_n be_v much_o out_o of_o use_n even_o among_o christian_n and_o therefore_o it_o will_v be_v find_v the_o hard_a matter_n to_o go_v about_o and_o take_v it_o in_o hand_n i_o have_v therefore_o set_v down_o meditation_n some_o meditation_n of_o all_o sort_n both_o brief_o and_o in_o large_a manner_n to_o help_v those_o which_o without_o help_n can_v draw_v matter_n from_o their_o own_o experience_n to_o meditate_v upon_o as_o i_o have_v before_o set_v down_o a_o short_a treatise_n about_o the_o same_o that_o through_o the_o help_n of_o both_o they_o may_v want_v nothing_o about_o this_o duty_n and_o christian_a exercise_n so_o that_o their_o heart_n be_v frame_v and_o fit_v thereto_o this_o part_n of_o god_n worship_n namely_o prayer_n confession_n of_o sin_n thanksgiving_n and_o meditation_n be_v conscionable_o and_o careful_o use_v and_o go_v about_o before_o
death_n to_o be_v the_o finisher_n of_o his_o sorrow_n it_o may_v have_v seem_v to_o give_v he_o place_n among_o the_o epicure_n who_o take_v their_o pleasure_n while_o they_o live_v look_v for_o nothing_o after_o death_n but_o that_o he_o declare_v himself_o at_o other_o time_n to_o be_v of_o a_o contrary_a mind_n but_o all_o these_o as_o i_o have_v say_v proceed_v from_o man_n frailty_n as_o we_o may_v afterward_o hear_v job_n himself_o to_o confess_v for_o who_o do_v not_o marvel_n in_o that_o so_o great_a trouble_n and_o anguish_n of_o he_o that_o he_o utter_v not_o one_o word_n subdue_v by_o satan_n danger_n for_o although_o he_o deny_v in_o word_n that_o he_o know_v christ_n yea_o and_o that_o with_o a_o curse_n call_v for_o upon_o himself_o if_o he_o know_v he_o i_o say_v more_o though_o his_o conscience_n do_v burn_v within_o he_o at_o the_o same_o time_n yet_o do_v not_o his_o mind_n go_v with_o his_o mouth_n neither_o do_v he_o change_v his_o judgement_n with_o his_o speech_n but_o he_o be_v bring_v unto_o it_o partly_o by_o that_o rashness_n of_o he_o which_o be_v too_o ready_a at_o hand_n with_o he_o in_o many_o of_o his_o action_n and_o partly_o by_o the_o fear_n of_o that_o danger_n which_o be_v at_o hand_n if_o he_o have_v confess_v christ_n but_o in_o the_o mean_a season_n that_o spirit_n which_o have_v teach_v he_o that_o christ_n be_v the_o son_n of_o the_o live_a god_n and_o so_o teach_v it_o he_o that_o he_o love_v nothing_o more_o dear_o than_o his_o master_n that_o spirit_n i_o say_v dwell_v still_o in_o he_o be_v not_o carry_v to_o such_o outrage_n but_o either_o be_v silent_a in_o he_o not_o consult_v withal_o as_o in_o heady_a and_o boisterous_a affection_n it_o come_v to_o pass_v or_o else_o it_o secret_o rebuke_v the_o tongue_n though_o no_o such_o thing_n appear_v and_o so_o likewise_o the_o faith_n lose_v for_o which_o christ_n pray_v that_o it_o may_v not_o fail_v nor_o be_v overcome_v be_v not_o extinct_a in_o he_o nor_o utter_o lose_v for_o if_o it_o have_v be_v so_o he_o will_v have_v join_v himself_o in_o familiarity_n with_o the_o jew_n and_o have_v complain_v that_o he_o have_v all_o that_o while_n be_v deceive_v of_o his_o master_n whereas_o on_o the_o other_o side_n he_o go_v forth_o and_o weep_v bitter_o and_o declare_v many_o way_n how_o deep_o he_o be_v displease_v with_o himself_o for_o that_o his_o offence_n neither_o yet_o do_v i_o speak_v this_o of_o peter_n as_o though_o i_o go_v about_o to_o make_v his_o sin_n small_a and_o light_a which_o sure_o i_o be_o persuade_v do_v deserve_v eternal_a death_n a_o thousand_o way_n but_o that_o if_o any_o have_v sin_v of_o infirmity_n or_o in_o any_o such_o manner_n as_o peter_n do_v and_o yet_o beside_o the_o unpardonable_a sin_n
