threaten_v death_n both_o command_n faith_n repentance_n and_o obedience_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v the_o same_o answer_n first_o the_o law_n and_o precept_n of_o 1_o precept_n the_o law_n and_o gospel_n be_v not_o the_o same_o for_o adam_n in_o his_o innocence_n know_v the_o law_n but_o he_o know_v nothing_o then_o of_o believe_v in_o christ_n and_o though_o both_o require_v righteousness_n promise_v life_n and_o threaten_v death_n yet_o the_o manner_n be_v far_o different_a as_o before_o be_v note_v so_o likewise_o they_o differ_v in_o the_o command_v of_o faith_n for_o the_o gospel_n god_n and_o to_o believe_v his_o word_n to_o be_v true_a but_o beside_o this_o the_o gospel_n require_v a_o particular_a faith_n in_o christ_n the_o redeemer_n who_o the_o law_n never_o know_v three_o the_o law_n command_v not_o 3_o repentance_n for_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o law_n be_v in_o adam_n heart_n when_o he_o need_v no_o repentance_n true_a repentance_n therefore_o be_v a_o save_a therefore_o err_v gross_o in_o confound_v the_o law_n and_o the_o gospel_n which_o indeed_o be_v far_o differ_v &_o so_o we_o must_v believe_v if_o we_o will_v come_v into_o &_o hold_v the_o right_a for_o the_o subdue_a of_o the_o rebellious_a flesh_n but_o yet_o herein_o we_o must_v beware_v that_o we_o destroy_v not_o our_o health_n our_o strength_n or_o our_o constltution_n for_o thus_o we_o neglect_v our_o life_n which_o be_v a_o sin_n of_o murder_n wherein_o though_o few_o yet_o some_o do_v offend_v who_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n live_v in_o the_o practice_n of_o soul_n and_o gross_a great_a importance_n for_o it_o be_v justice_n with_o god_n to_o curse_v their_o proceed_n that_o despise_v the_o heavenly_a lean_a altogether_o to_o their_o own_o wisdom_n four_o see_v spiritual_a providence_n in_o forecast_v how_o to_o compass_v providence_n true_a happiness_n be_v a_o special_a part_n of_o true_a heavenly_a wisdom_n we_o must_v become_v careful_a practitioner_n hereof_o in_o mind_n rule_v and_o direct_v the_o will_n and_o affection_n but_o now_o these_o inferior_a power_n rule_v or_o rather_o over-rule_v the_o mind_n and_o utter_o pervert_v the_o regiment_n thereof_o they_o cast_v a_o mist_n and_o a_o veil_n over_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o mind_n that_o it_o can_v see_v nothing_o in_o the_o way_n of_o righteousness_n and_o therefore_o as_o we_o tender_v the_o salvation_n of_o our_o soul_n we_o must_v renounce_v our_o own_o natural_a will_n and_o corrupt_a desire_n and_o strive_v to_o bring_v they_o into_o subjection_n unto_o the_o word_n of_o god_n many_o man_n think_v much_o to_o be_v cross_v of_o their_o natural_a desire_n and_o delight_n but_o it_o be_v happy_a for_o the_o soul_n when_o god_n in_o his_o providence_n do_v break_v man_n of_o their_o have_v gift_n to_o discern_v of_o truth_n from_o falsehood_n in_o the_o popish_a church_n they_o be_v more_o careful_a they_o permit_v not_o a_o man_n to_o read_v a_o heretic_n book_n as_o they_o call_v we_o protestant_n without_o leave_n and_o that_o under_o a_o great_a penalty_n which_o be_v severe_o inflict_v upon_o offender_n that_o way_n v._o instruct._n this_o commandment_n also_o show_v that_o it_o be_v not_o lawful_a unlawful_a to_o grant_v to_o any_o man_n or_o to_o any_o people_n the_o liberty_n of_o their_o own_o conscience_n in_o the_o matter_n of_o religion_n permit_v they_o
