church_n that_o they_o may_v persecute_v and_o quite_o destroy_v it_o if_o it_o be_v possible_a second_o god_n 2_o church_n be_v a_o peculiar_a people_n sever_v from_o the_o world_n in_o profession_n doctrine_n and_o conversation_n and_o therefore_o the_o world_n hate_v they_o joh._n 15._o 19_o and_o this_o very_a point_n may_v serve_v to_o stay_v our_o heart_n when_o we_o shall_v be_v persecute_v for_o the_o profession_n and_o embrace_v of_o the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n for_o the_o world_n do_v hate_n god_n church_n and_o will_v do_v to_o the_o end_n there_o must_v be_v enmity_n between_o the_o seed_n of_o the_o serpent_n and_o the_o seed_n of_o the_o 3._o woman_n as_o than_o he_o that_o be_v bear_v of_o the_o flesh_n persecute_v he_o that_o be_v bear_v after_o the_o spirit_n so_o be_v it_o now_o gal._n 4._o 29._o second_o observe_v that_o this_o hatred_n of_o the_o world_n be_v not_o only_o against_o the_o member_n of_o god_n church_n but_o even_o against_o christ_n holy_a religion_n so_o christ_n say_v for_o my_o sake_n or_o for_o my_o religion_n sake_n this_o be_v to_o be_v mark_v as_o a_o most_o excellent_a argument_n to_o persuade_v our_o conscience_n that_o the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n which_o we_o profess_v be_v the_o true_a and_o bless_a doctrine_n of_o god_n because_o the_o wicked_a world_n do_v always_o hate_v it_o yea_o it_o hate_v we_o also_o for_o the_o gospel_n sake_n now_o if_o it_o be_v a_o doctrine_n of_o man_n it_o will_v fit_v their_o nature_n well_o and_o they_o will_v love_v it_o for_o the_o world_n do_v love_v his_o own_o joh._n 15._o 19_o three_o if_o they_o be_v bless_v that_o suffer_v persecution_n then_o how_o may_v any_o man_n lawful_o fly_v in_o persecution_n answer_n a_o man_n may_v fly_v in_o persecution_n with_o good_a conscience_n these_o two_o thing_n observe_v first_o that_o he_o be_v persecution_n not_o hinder_v by_o his_o particular_a call_n second_o that_o he_o have_v liberty_n offer_v by_o god_n providence_n to_o escape_v the_o hand_n of_o his_o enemy_n the_o intent_n of_o this_o verse_n be_v not_o to_o forbid_v flight_n but_o to_o comfort_v such_o as_o be_v in_o persecution_n and_o can_v escape_v for_o the_o word_n signify_v such_o persecution_n as_o be_v by_o pursuit_n and_o oppression_n which_o can_v be_v avoid_v last_o see_v they_o be_v bless_v that_o suffer_v for_o righteousness_n sake_n whether_o be_v they_o always_o curse_v that_o suffer_v deserve_o for_o a_o evil_a cause_n for_o the_o contrary_a reason_n be_v in_o contrary_n ans._n they_o be_v always_o accurse_v save_v in_o one_o case_n to_o wit_n unless_o they_o repent_v for_o their_o unrighteousness_n for_o which_o they_o be_v afflict_v but_o by_o true_a repentance_n they_o become_v bless_v the_o thief_n upon_o the_o cross_n have_v live_v in_o theft_n and_o be_v therefore_o attach_v condemn_v and_o crucify_v and_o so_o he_o suffer_v for_o unrighteousness_n but_o yet_o he_o be_v save_v because_o he_o repent_v and_o believe_v in_o christ._n it_o be_v add_v for_o righteousness_n sake_n in_o this_o clause_n we_o be_v teach_v a_o special_a lesson_n namely_o that_o when_o god_n shall_v lay_v upon_o we_o any_o church_n shall_v use_v any_o form_n of_o prayer_n but_o such_o as_o be_v allow_v and_o appoint_v and_o that_o for_o these_o cause_n first_o that_o there_o may_v be_v a_o uniformity_n in_o the_o solemn_a worship_n of_o god_n and_o second_o that_o the_o ignorance_n and_o negligence_n of_o many_o pastor_n may_v be_v prevent_v who_o otherwise_o will_v have_v omit_v this_o duty_n in_o their_o congregation_n and_o therefore_o there_o be_v then_o set_v down_o a_o general_a form_n of_o confession_n of_o faith_n of_o prayer_n and_o thanksgiving_n and_o of_o administration_n of_o the_o sacrament_n now_o consider_v set_v prayer_n be_v god_n ordinance_n and_o the_o imperfection_n of_o man_n require_v it_o and_o the_o same_o have_v be_v so_o long_o use_v in_o former_a age_n i_o doubt_v not_o to_o affirm_v the_o same_o to_o be_v both_o profitable_a and_o necessary_a whereby_o we_o may_v see_v how_o blind_a and_o rash_a they_o be_v who_o term_n set_v 48._o prayer_n a_o abominable_a idol_n and_o as_o loathsome_a unto_o god_n as_o swine_n â—lesh_n be_v to_o the_o jew_n these_o be_v loathsome_a and_o unreverend_a term_n but_o that_o we_o may_v know_v their_o folly_n and_o error_n the_o better_a let_v we_o here_o scan_v their_o principal_a reason_n against_o set_a prayer_n and_o they_o be_v two_o i._o to_o read_v a_o sermon_n pen_v by_o a_o other_o be_v no_o preach_v and_o therefore_o to_o repeat_v a_o set_a prayer_n be_v no_o prayer_n ans._n the_o reason_n be_v naught_o for_o in_o read_v a_o pen_a sermon_n a_o man_n can_v express_v the_o gift_n of_o pprophecy_n but_o in_o read_v a_o set_a prayer_n he_o may_v show_v the_o gift_n of_o prayer_n as_o namely_o a_o touch_v heart_n for_o his_o sin_n a_o hunger_a desire_n after_o grace_n and_o a_o thankful_a heart_n for_o god_n mercy_n and_o herein_o do_v prayer_n consist_v and_o not_o in_o the_o word_n ii_o reason_n we_o must_v pray_v free_o as_o the_o spirit_n move_v we_o and_o therefore_o to_o use_v set_v form_n of_o prayer_n be_v to_o stint_v and_o quench_v the_o good_a motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n ans._n this_o reason_n be_v somewhat_o if_o every_o one_o receive_v such_o a_o portion_n and_o measure_n of_o the_o spirit_n as_o do_v enable_v he_o hereunto_o but_o see_v in_o this_o life_n we_o have_v but_o the_o first_o fruit_n thereof_o and_o not_o the_o ten_o as_o one_o say_v we_o be_v to_o use_v all_o good_a help_n to_o make_v supply_n unto_o our_o want_n for_o in_o the_o practice_n of_o holy_a duty_n we_o be_v like_a unto_o a_o man_n that_o be_v new_o recover_v of_o some_o grievous_a sickness_n feeble_a in_o prayer_n have_v need_n of_o the_o help_n of_o set_a form_n of_o prayer_n to_o hold_v up_o our_o feeble_a hand_n unto_o god_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v requisite_a for_o man_n to_o use_v set_v form_n of_o prayer_n at_o least_o for_o the_o matter_n and_o order_n thereof_o in_o their_o own_o heart_n yea_o and_o many_o time_n it_o be_v needful_a for_o some_o to_o use_v set_v prayer_n for_o word_n for_o many_o that_o have_v true_a grace_n in_o their_o heart_n want_v utterance_n to_o express_v it_o and_o if_o they_o may_v not_o use_v set_v form_n of_o prayer_n they_o shall_v be_v deprive_v of_o many_o great_a comfort_n especial_o when_o they_o pray_v with_o other_o so_o that_o if_o the_o heart_n be_v right_o prepare_v thereto_o set_v prayer_n do_v not_o quench_v but_o help_v the_o weak_a gift_n of_o the_o spirit_n both_o in_o the_o heart_n and_o tongue_n by_o this_o than_o we_o see_v that_o neither_o our_o church_n nor_o any_o other_o where_o a_o set_a form_n of_o divine_a service_n be_v establish_v be_v therefore_o to_o be_v blame_v because_o the_o same_o be_v both_o necessary_a and_o profitable_a second_o here_o we_o see_v that_o it_o be_v meet_v and_o necessary_a we_o shall_v have_v some_o set_a form_n of_o prayer_n in_o our_o heart_n according_a to_o our_o peculiar_a estate_n whereby_o we_o may_v express_v unto_o god_n our_o particular_a want_n and_o crave_v supply_v thereof_o particular_o some_o think_v we_o must_v only_o pray_v upon_o extraordinary_a instinct_n and_o motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n but_o so_o many_o be_v our_o want_n that_o unless_o we_o prepare_v ourselves_o before_o hand_n we_o can_v pray_v aright_o and_o therefore_o to_o avoid_v many_o distraction_n and_o let_n in_o our_o mind_n heart_n and_o utterance_n it_o shall_v
