god_n or_o that_o be_v worship_v beside_o he_o now_o â—e_v never_o get_v into_o the_o temple_n not_o sit_v there_o 〈◊〉_d be_v worship_v under_o the_o name_n of_o a_o devil_n satan_n or_o prince_n of_o darkness_n now_o 〈◊〉_d in_o any_o age_n but_o mysterious_o wrought_v himself_o in_o under_o a_o disguise_n clothing_n himself_o like_o a_o angel_n of_o light_n that_o desire_v and_o endeavour_v the_o good_a of_o mankind_n by_o this_o mean_v he_o come_v and_o come_v to_o be_v obey_v and_o worship_v not_o as_o he_o be_v but_o as_o he_o appear_v to_o be_v now_o this_o temple_n where_o he_o sit_v and_o where_o he_o be_v worship_v be_v the_o heart_n and_o mind_n of_o mankind_n in_o the_o degenerate_a stite_n and_o that_o which_o do_v reveal_v he_o with_o his_o mystery_n of_o iniquity_n be_v the_o light_n and_o spâ—rit_n of_o god_n in_o which_o thou_o have_v believe_v work_v and_o operate_n in_o the_o same_o place_n and_o consume_v he_o with_o the_o spirit_n of_o his_o mouth_n and_o destroy_v he_o with_o the_o brightness_n of_o his_o come_v but_o this_o thou_o know_v not_o effect_v so_o soon_o as_o thou_o believe_v it_o be_v a_o work_n wrought_v by_o degree_n thy_o safety_n and_o duty_n be_v to_o wait_v with_o patience_n for_o the_o come_v of_o the_o lord_n in_o that_o light_n and_o grace_n which_o fit_v and_o prepare_v his_o way_n and_o teach_v thou_o how_o to_o join_v with_o he_o when_o he_o appear_v and_o to_o help_v the_o lord_n against_o the_o mighty_a and_o to_o meet_v he_o in_o the_o way_n of_o his_o judgement_n by_o which_o zion_n be_v redeem_v and_o so_o as_o thou_o here_o wait_v thou_o will_v discern_v he_o when_o he_o appear_v from_o all_o the_o appearance_n of_o thy_o enemy_n and_o be_v make_v willing_a in_o this_o day_n of_o his_o power_n to_o yield_v up_o thy_o heart_n mind_n and_o strength_n unto_o he_o and_o to_o serve_v he_o love_n fear_v and_o obey_v he_o this_o be_v require_v on_o thy_o part_n so_o will_v thou_o know_v he_o to_o appear_v unto_o thou_o as_o a_o morning_n without_o cloud_n and_o in_o his_o light_n thou_o will_v see_v more_o light_n and_o know_v it_o shine_v more_o and_o more_o unto_o a_o perfect_a day_n till_o by_o michael_n the_o prince_n and_o follow_v the_o lamb_n which_o ride_v on_o conquer_a and_o to_o conquer_v so_o shall_v thou_o overcome_v and_o sit_v down_o with_o he_o on_o his_o throne_n as_o he_o sit_v down_o with_o his_o father_n on_o his_o throne_n and_o know_v thy_o enemy_n make_v thy_o footstool_n and_o that_o thou_o may_v not_o fail_v hereof_o watch_n also_o against_o the_o dead_a a_o form_n yet_o there_o may_v be_v a_o form_n without_o the_o power_n this_o spirit_n of_o formality_n captivate_v some_o in_o former_a age_n and_o lead_v they_o to_o deny_v the_o power_n from_o such_o they_o be_v to_o turn_v away_o then_o and_o so_o be_v thou_o now_o for_o if_o this_o spirit_n of_o formality_n prevail_v though_o a_o form_n of_o godliness_n be_v â—etained_v as_o a_o form_n of_o sound_a word_n plainness_n and_o decency_n in_o apparel_n superfluity_n of_o meat_n and_o drink_v lay_v aside_o respect_v man_n person_n and_o worship_v they_o with_o cap_n and_o knee_n avoid_v truth_n and_o light_n within_o profess_a in_o word_n meeting_n and_o assemble_v often_o frequent_v the_o sound_n of_o truth_n as_o a_o lovely_a song_n etc._n etc._n yet_o if_o thy_o heart_n be_v go_v astray_o if_o thou_o feel_v not_o life_n to_o lead_v thou_o if_o thou_o take_v not_o up_o the_o daily_a cross_n to_o thy_o will_n thought_n affection_n lust_n and_o passion_n and_o by_o the_o same_o mortify_v they_o thou_o may_v be_v a_o mere_a formalist_n and_o thy_o observe_n and_o abide_v in_o thy_o form_n may_v become_v as_o abominable_a in_o the_o sight_n of_o the_o lord_n now_o as_o it_o be_v of_o old_a among_o his_o once_o peculiar_a people_n the_o jew_n when_o he_o send_v his_o prophet_n isaiah_n to_o cry_v against_o they_o though_o they_o keep_v and_o observe_v the_o multitude_n of_o offering_n and_o sacrifice_n feast_n &_o fast_n new-moon_n and_o sabbath_n day_n solemn_a meeting_n and_o assembling_n before_o the_o lord_n etc._n etc._n which_o be_v the_o very_a form_n of_o worship_n he_o once_o command_v but_o the_o spirit_n of_o dead_a formality_n be_v get_v into_o their_o heart_n corrupt_v they_o so_o that_o he_o that_o kill_v a_o ox_n be_v as_o he_o that_o slay_v a_o man_n he_o that_o sacrifice_v a_o lamb_n as_o he_o that_o cut_v off_o a_o dog_n neck_n he_o that_o offer_v oblation_n as_o if_o he_o offer_v swiâ—â—s_a blood_n he_o that_o burn_v incense_n as_o if_o he_o bless_v a_o idol_n the_o reason_n of_o all_o this_o be_v not_o because_o these_o thing_n be_v evil_a in_o themselves_o but_o because_o the_o call_v of_o the_o lord_n be_v not_o answer_v and_o because_o when_o he_o speak_v they_o do_v not_o hear_v but_o do_v evil_a before_o his_o eye_n and_o choose_v that_o in_o which_o he_o delight_v not_o yet_o observe_v and_o perform_v the_o outward_a part_n of_o worship_n and_o sit_v before_o the_o lord_n as_o his_o people_n and_o love_v and_o delight_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n by_o the_o mouth_n of_o his_o prophet_n but_o not_o to_o do_v they_o read_v isaiah_n 66.3_o and_o ezekiel_n 33.30_o 31_o 32._o now_o dear_a friend_n let_v this_o sore_a evil_n never_o some_o near_a thy_o dwelling_n in_o thy_o holy_a form_n of_o godliness_n which_o thou_o have_v be_v lead_n unto_o by_o the_o power_n keep_v in_o the_o sense_n and_o feel_v of_o the_o same_o in_o thy_o form_n of_o sound_a word_n keep_v in_o the_o fear_n of_o up_o before_o thy_o elder_n and_o give_v they_o double_a honour_n and_o to_o be_v courteous_a and_o kind_o affectionate_a unto_o all_o this_o will_v the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n lead_v thou_o to_o and_o love_v the_o sound_n thereof_o yet_o come_v to_o our_o meeting_n and_o frequent_v our_o assembly_n formal_o and_o customary_o even_o as_o the_o unbeliever_n and_o ignorant_a people_n go_v to_o hear_v the_o common_a service_n or_o study_a sermon_n but_o receive_v not_o the_o engraft_a word_n which_o be_v able_a to_o save_v their_o soul_n so_o though_o they_o hear_v many_o heavenly_a testimony_n and_o exhortation_n they_o receive_v and_o obey_v they_o not_o neither_o do_v they_o grow_v and_o increase_v in_o their_o inward_a man_n from_o one_o degree_n of_o grace_n knowledge_n and_o virtue_n unto_o another_o this_o spirit_n of_o dead_a formality_n have_v also_o assume_v the_o form_n of_o sound_a word_n and_o plainness_n of_o apparel_n etc._n etc._n and_o under_o this_o form_n and_o disguise_n have_v bring_v forth_o and_o effect_v much_o evil_n deceive_v many_o and_o lay_v a_o stumble_n before_o other_o and_o bring_v a_o evil_a report_n upon_o the_o truth_n and_o those_o that_o live_v in_o it_o and_o this_o evil_a spirit_n of_o deceit_n hypocrisy_n and_o formality_n have_v wrought_v more_o mischief_n against_o the_o truth_n and_o the_o holy_a profession_n of_o it_o manifest_a within_o even_o under_o this_o form_n than_o all_o open_a opposition_n and_o persecution_n can_v ever_o effect_v this_o be_v now_o and_o have_v be_v in_o former_a age_n the_o way_n and_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o deceit_n when_o he_o can_v prevail_v by_o direct_a opposition_n and_o perfecttion_n then_o will_v he_o get_v the_o word_n and_o profession_n of_o truth_n and_o appear_v and_o work_v under_o the_o form_n thereof_o and_o by_o the_o evil_a fruit_n he_o bring_v forth_o under_o this_o disguise_n he_o occasion_n many_o who_o be_v wait_v for_o the_o consolation_n of_o israel_n and_o strict_o observe_v the_o conversation_n of_o the_o child_n thereof_o to_o lose_v their_o expectation_n and_o to_o sit_v down_o and_o conclude_v these_o people_n be_v but_o as_o other_o and_o their_o way_n be_v but_o as_o other_o way_n and_o they_o fail_v in_o their_o profession_n of_o holiness_n etc._n etc._n as_o other_o do_v we_o see_v evil_a among_o they_o as_o among_o other_o even_o under_o their_o very_a form_n etc._n etc._n this_o have_v occasion_v many_o to_o take_v up_o their_o rest_n in_o a_o latitudinarian_a spirit_n or_o to_o be_v ready_a to_o say_v all_o man_n be_v liar_n and_o religion_n a_o cheat_n and_o some_o to_o run_v into_o atheism_n itself_o but_o double_a woe_n and_o misery_n will_v be_v the_o portion_n of_o those_o person_n who_o entertain_v and_o join_v with_o this_o spirit_n of_o deceit_n and_o hypocrisy_n and_o thereby_o occasion_n many_o to_o stumble_v go_v backward_o and_o fall_v and_o speak_v evil_a of_o the_o way_n of_o truth_n which_o be_v peaceable_a peasant_n and_o pure_a not_o only_o in_o itself_o but_o also_o to_o all_o those_o that_o love_v it_o and_o obey_v it_o and_o become_v child_n of_o it_o but_o as_o for_o those_o that_o once_o know_v the_o way_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o afterward_o give_v way_n to_o the_o spirit_n of_o evil_a deceit_n hypocrisy_n and_o formality_n or_o that_o take_v up_o the_o form_n of_o godliness_n to_o deceive_v as_o in_o former_a age_n so_o now_o such_o be_v more_o abominable_a in_o the_o sight_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o more_o to_o be_v testify_v against_o then_o the_o very_a heathen_a or_o profane_a unbeliever_n false_a brethren_n be_v most_o perilous_a and_o hypocrite_n most_o odious_a in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n and_o all_o good_a man_n and_o the_o gild_n of_o soul_n lie_v at_o their_o door_n because_o of_o their_o ungodly_a practice_n and_o evil_a do_n under_o the_o form_n show_v and_o profession_n of_o godliness_n such_o like_o unsavoury_a salt_n be_v good_a for_o nothing_o but_o to_o be_v tread_v under_o foot_n of_o man_n judge_v and_o condemn_v by_o god_n witness_n within_o themselves_o and_o without_o by_o other_o and_o the_o gnaw_v worm_n take_v hold_v of_o they_o and_o the_o unquenchable_a fire_n be_v kindle_v in_o their_o bowel_n and_o a_o earnest_a of_o eternal_a vengeance_n they_o receive_v as_o a_o just_a recompense_n of_o reward_n and_o like_v fall_v angel_n be_v reserve_v in_o chain_n to_o the_o judgement_n of_o the_o great_a day_n for_o my_o faith_n and_o belief_n be_v that_o if_o all_o that_o ever_o take_v up_o the_o form_n and_o profession_n of_o the_o truth_n light_n grace_n and_o spiritual_a manifestation_n thereof_o within_o have_v stand_v firm_a in_o the_o same_o and_o watch_v against_o rule_v over_o and_o keep_v out_o
