business_n i_o may_v certain_o spare_v for_o religion_n so_o many_o day_n of_o a_o year_n or_o of_o a_o month_n or_o week_n or_o so_o many_o hour_n of_o a_o week_n or_o day_n because_o i_o shall_v have_v nothing_o to_o do_v about_o worldly_a affair_n but_o may_v be_v free_a to_o attend_v on_o god_n we_o say_v this_o can_v never_o be_v say_v in_o reference_n to_o all_o mankind_n of_o who_o our_o dispute_n now_o be_v and_o so_o we_o shall_v have_v most_o wild_a determination_n if_o man_n take_v their_o aim_n only_o or_o chief_o from_o the_o consideration_n of_o bodily_a and_o worldly_a to_o say_v and_o refer_v to_o the_o reader_n to_o judge_v what_o cause_n we_o have_v for_o it_o that_o our_o disputer_n in_o this_o whole_a controversy_n about_o religious_a time_n seem_v absolute_o to_o be_v of_o the_o mind_n that_o however_o all_o time_n be_v original_o god_n and_o he_o may_v still_o challenge_v what_o he_o please_v by_o a_o express_a law_n yet_o in_o practice_n he_o have_v rather_o give_v over_o time_n into_o man_n hand_n and_o make_v all_o time_n we_o rather_o than_o his_o own_o except_o only_o what_o he_o challenge_v from_o the_o jew_n by_o express_a law_n even_o particular_a proportion_n divide_v between_o worldly_a business_n and_o religion_n now_o this_o kind_n of_o make_v all_o time_n we_o chief_o and_o principal_o for_o worldly_a business_n we_o take_v to_o be_v their_o capital_a and_o fundamental_a error_n in_o the_o whole_a dispute_n about_o the_o sabbath_n and_o lordsday_n and_o can_v sufficient_o wonder_v how_o it_o shall_v settle_v in_o the_o mind_n of_o considerate_a divine_n but_o the_o greatness_n of_o the_o error_n of_o this_o conceit_n we_o hope_v to_o represent_v to_o all_o reader_n and_o even_o to_o our_o disputer_n own_o conscience_n by_o these_o four_o argument_n follow_v indulgence_n lxvii_o 1._o otherwise_o no_o time_n shall_v be_v god_n but_o by_o man_n indulgence_n 1._o be_v not_o this_o to_o reduce_v all_o time_n from_o be_v god_n original_o and_o none_o we_o for_o worldly_a business_n but_o by_o his_o indulgence_n to_o no_o time_n be_v god_n practical_o but_o by_o man_n indulgence_n as_o we_o may_v say_v and_o again_o all_o inferior_n time_n for_o their_o soul_n to_o be_v neither_o at_o god_n appointment_n nor_o their_o own_o dispose_n but_o at_o their_o superior_n how_o profane_a and_o godless_a so_o ever_o and_o by_o their_o indulgence_n which_o although_o we_o grant_v that_o if_o god_n have_v any_o where_o say_v in_o his_o word_n express_o or_o by_o undeniable_a consequence_n i_o will_v leave_v all_o time_n to_o you_o and_o so_o i_o do_v before_o moses_n his_o time_n to_o all_o mankind_n there_o have_v be_v no_o reason_n against_o it_o nor_o find_v fault_n with_o it_o yet_o further_o than_o they_o can_v plead_v their_o superior_n allowance_n of_o such_o time_n for_o themselves_o dare_v not_o challenge_v any_o day_n or_o hour_n as_o they_o and_o much_o less_o the_o principal_n of_o their_o time_n to_o be_v their_o own_o and_o their_o attendance_n on_o their_o superior_n to_o be_v but_o when_o and_o how_o long_o and_o how_o often_o they_o themselves_o who_o be_v inferior_n do_v or_o shall_v appoint_v or_o tender_v voluntary_o even_o retainer_n though_o no_o ordinary_a servant_n have_v some_o set_v time_n by_o their_o superior_n appointment_n to_o present_v themselves_o and_o all_o be_v not_o mere_o at_o their_o discretion_n and_o we_o be_v sure_a we_o be_v or_o shall_v be_v more_o than_o retainer_n to_o god_n 2._o respect_n lxviii_o 2._o else_o man_n their_o discourse_n about_o necessary_a and_o sufficient_a time_n and_o so_o religion_n god_n honour_n and_o man_n soul_n as_o mean_v and_o secondary_a thing_n of_o a_o inferior_a nature_n to_o have_v no_o other_o time_n than_o what_o man_n can_v spare_v or_o determine_v to_o spare_v from_o their_o worldly_a business_n and_o pleasure_n &c_n &c_n and_o so_o notwithstanding_o that_o god_n take_v a_o other_o order_n with_o his_o jewish_a church_n exact_v from_o they_o for_o himself_o and_o their_o soul_n together_o a_o weekly_a sabbath_n beside_o sundry_a other_o time_n yet_o to_o imply_v there_o be_v no_o need_n of_o his_o do_v any_o such_o thing_n either_o before_o or_o since_o notwithstanding_o man_v fall_v and_o all_o man_n corruption_n even_o under_o the_o gospel_n and_o their_o upon_o the_o consecrate_a solemn_a time_n the_o soul_n will_v still_o be_v lean_a hungry_a and_o even_o starve_v for_o want_v of_o a_o sufficient_a proportion_n of_o time_n by_o reason_n of_o its_o manifold_a continual_a necessity_n faint_n decay_n and_o temptation_n so_o that_o whatever_o our_o adversary_n dispute_v against_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n we_o conceive_v they_o dispute_v against_o their_o own_o participation_n of_o a_o blessing_n upon_o whatsoever_o time_n be_v determine_v and_o observe_v by_o man_n themselves_o or_o other_o and_o that_o a_o certain_a blessing_n may_v be_v rest_v on_o in_o the_o observation_n of_o one_o day_n in_o seven_o as_o from_o god_n determination_n then_o in_o two_o day_n in_o seven_o three_o day_n nay_o six_o day_n in_o seven_o at_o man_n mean_n of_o blessing_n to_o the_o right_a user_n of_o it_o according_a to_o god_n command_n and_o observe_v that_o because_o god_n see_v that_o the_o encouragement_n of_o a_o blessing_n be_v great_o indulgence_n of_o six_o day_n for_o worldly_a matter_n and_o determination_n of_o one_o in_o seven_o for_o religion_n we_o say_v then_o that_o the_o whole_a proportion_n within_o the_o revolution_n of_o a_o week_n of_o seven_o day_n or_o any_o other_o number_n of_o day_n be_v not_o to_o be_v so_o large_a but_o by_o just_a proof_n it_o may_v be_v demonstrate_v that_o so_o large_a a_o proportion_n and_o no_o less_o be_v certain_o necessary_a for_o all_o man_n and_o the_o proof_n of_o this_o in_o a_o word_n be_v this_o prove_v 2._o prove_v that_o hereby_o man_n conscience_n will_v be_v awe_v with_o the_o determination_n as_o altogether_o uncontrollable_a and_o their_o mouth_n will_v be_v stop_v that_o for_o shame_n if_o they_o have_v any_o shame_n in_o they_o they_o will_v not_o dare_v to_o say_v that_o the_o commandment_n be_v a_o heavy_a yoke_n or_o a_o burden_n real_o grievous_a who_o ever_o be_v the_o determiner_n immediate_o god_n or_o man_n superior_n or_o one_o own_o vow_n and_o this_o if_o any_o thing_n will_v help_v main_o to_o secure_v the_o observation_n of_o it_o by_o all_o and_o among_o all_o who_o else_o will_v be_v perpetual_o quarrel_v and_o grumble_n against_o it_o and_o so_o what_o ever_o become_v of_o the_o public_a worship_n to_o which_o they_o may_v perhaps_o be_v ordinary_o awe_v by_o the_o magistrate_n and_o the_o family-worship_n also_o where_o the_o governor_n be_v strict_a yet_o to_o be_v sure_o they_o will_v never_o be_v tie_v to_o the_o performance_n of_o solitary_a worship_n but_o reject_v it_o as_o a_o unreasonable_a and_o intolerable_a imposition_n and_o so_o much_o too_o of_o either_o or_o both_o the_o other_o as_o they_o dare_v for_o fear_n of_o man_n superior_n and_o neighbour_n we_o know_v that_o how_o little_a so_o ever_o be_v require_v by_o the_o most_o undeniable_a authority_n of_o god_n himself_o yet_o every_o one_o of_o mankind_n will_v not_o regard_v it_o but_o this_o be_v yet_o great_o different_a to_o reject_v a_o commandment_n out_o of_o mere_a prophanesse_n as_o they_o do_v any_o of_o the_o rest_n and_o for_o which_o their_o conscience_n give_v they_o many_o nip_n now_o and_o will_v gnaw_v upon_o they_o eternal_o if_o they_o repent_v not_o and_o to_o reject_v it_o as_o a_o unsufferable_a burden_n which_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n now_o under_o the_o new_a testament_n can_v just_o be_v say_v to_o be_v and_o so_o what_o ever_o time_n be_v plead_v for_o as_o god_n commandment_n now_o we_o grant_v and_o assert_v that_o the_o proportion_n of_o it_o as_o we_o say_v must_v appear_v to_o be_v undeniable_a necessary_a and_o according_o though_o in_o another_o place_n we_o shall_v more_o full_o argue_v it_o yet_o here_o we_o propound_v again_o to_o the_o reader_n conscience_n this_o question_n whether_o out_o of_o the_o proportion_n of_o seven_o day_n which_o contain_v 168._o hour_n the_o wake_a time_n of_o one_o day_n which_o be_v ordinary_o with_o most_o man_n but_o fourteen_o or_o sixteen_o hour_n or_o suppose_v it_o eighten_v or_o twenty_o or_o even_o the_o whole_a twenty_o four_o be_v too_o large_a a_o proportion_n for_o the_o chief_a solemn_a time_n for_o all_o man_n to_o attend_v the_o worship_n of_o god_n and_o the_o good_a eternal_a of_o their_o own_o soul_n and_o other_o and_o whether_o such_o a_o proportion_n at_o least_o be_v not_o necessary_a for_o all_o man_n to_o employ_v and_o also_o compatible_a certain_o with_o any_o worldly_a business_n we_o do_v not_o now_o argue_v how_o it_o shall_v be_v distribute_v between_o the_o continuance_n and_o frequency_n whether_o all_o the_o continuance_n to_o be_v in_o one_o day_n or_o two_o or_o more_o or_o every_o day_n to_o share_v alike_o that_o we_o have_v already_o do_v chap._n 8._o and_o show_v the_o whole_a proportion_n to_o be_v best_o all_o on_o one_o day_n but_o we_o say_v whether_o less_o than_o such_o a_o proportion_n in_o the_o whole_a can_v be_v sufficient_a for_o god_n honour_n and_o the_o soul_n salvation_n or_o this_o can_v be_v just_o except_v against_o as_o unnecessary_a and_o injurious_a if_o sober_a conscience_n put_v but_o
