be_v such_o a_o wonderful_a work_n of_o god_n in_o it_o than_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o horrible_a and_o vile_a thing_n to_o sin_n against_o this_o grace_n that_o the_o heart_n of_o god_n be_v so_o much_o in_o to_o dishonour_v this_o great_a work_n of_o god_n must_v needs_o be_v a_o very_a vile_a and_o horrible_a thing_n and_o this_o have_v be_v my_o intention_n my_o very_a plot_n as_o to_o set_v forth_o the_o greatness_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o the_o mercy_n of_o forgiveness_n so_o also_o to_o keep_v you_o from_o sin_v against_o this_o grace_n if_o he_o be_v bless_v upon_o who_o such_o a_o great_a and_o glorious_a work_n of_o god_n be_v wrought_v in_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n than_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o most_o horrible_a and_o dreadful_a thing_n for_o any_o first_o who_o they_o be_v that_o cast_a dishonour_n on_o this_o great_a work_n of_o god_n and_o second_o show_v the_o greatness_n of_o the_o sin_n what_o a_o dangerous_a thing_n it_o be_v to_o sin_n against_o this_o great_a work_n of_o god_n in_o pardon_v sin_n 1._o first_o they_o sin_n against_o this_o great_a work_n of_o god_n in_o pardon_v sin_n that_o be_v altogether_o careless_a who_o little_a or_o nothing_o mind_n it_o or_o scarce_o spend_v any_o time_n about_o it_o there_o be_v a_o generation_n of_o man_n and_o woman_n in_o the_o world_n that_o have_v sin_n and_o guilt_n enough_o upon_o their_o spirit_n yet_o they_o scarce_o ever_o call_v to_o mind_n or_o question_v what_o be_v the_o term_n between_o god_n and_o their_o own_o soul_n how_o thing_n stand_v between_o god_n and_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n have_v have_v your_o thought_n work_v thus_o o_o my_o soul_n how_o be_v it_o with_o thou_o how_o do_v matter_n stand_v betwixt_o god_n and_o thou_o what_o guilt_n be_v it_o thou_o have_v upon_o thy_o spirit_n what_o have_v divine_a justice_n to_o charge_v thou_o withal_o conscience_n speak_v free_o and_o full_o what_o be_v there_o in_o heaven_n against_o i_o be_v there_o any_o thing_n upon_o record_n that_o i_o be_o charge_v withal_o how_o be_v it_o between_o god_n and_o i_o o_o what_o stranger_n be_v most_o man_n unto_o such_o thought_n as_o these_o but_o go_v on_o in_o a_o sleepy_a secure_a and_o dead_a heart_a way_n either_o they_o believe_v there_o be_v no_o guilt_n at_o all_o upon_o their_o spirit_n or_o no_o great_a evil_n in_o that_o guilt_n or_o else_o think_v it_o be_v no_o great_a matter_n for_o god_n to_o pardon_v you_o be_v very_o solicitous_a for_o the_o flesh_n what_o you_o shall_v eat_v and_o drink_v and_o what_o you_o shall_v put_v on_o and_o for_o your_o estate_n how_o to_o get_v and_o increase_v in_o the_o world_n but_o to_o make_v up_o the_o record_n between_o god_n and_o your_o soul_n to_o get_v they_o discharge_v and_o the_o record_n of_o heaven_n cancel_v that_o be_v against_o you_o o_o how_o seldom_o do_v these_o thing_n take_v up_o your_o thought_n know_v you_o that_o be_v of_o such_o careless_a spirit_n about_o this_o great_a matter_n of_o pardon_n of_o sin_n that_o it_o be_v a_o great_a aggravation_n of_o your_o sin_n that_o you_o be_v so_o careless_a about_o that_o great_a work_n of_o god_n in_o pardon_v sin_n you_o be_v careless_a and_o spend_v but_o a_o few_o thought_n about_o that_o that_o have_v as_o i_o may_v so_o speak_v with_o holy_a reverence_n take_v up_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o infinite_a god_n from_o all_o eternity_n certain_o there_o be_v not_o any_o in_o the_o world_n not_o any_o of_o the_o work_n of_o god_n towards_o his_o creature_n have_v take_v up_o the_o thought_n and_o heart_n of_o god_n so_o much_o as_o this_o one_o work_n of_o the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n &_o yet_o your_o thought_n be_v not_o take_v up_o with_o it_o you_o little_a mind_n it_o certain_o there_o be_v a_o great_a disproportion_n between_o your_o thought_n and_o god_n whereas_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a shall_v labour_v to_o work_v as_o god_n work_v and_o those_o thing_n that_o have_v take_v up_o the_o heart_n of_o god_n shall_v take_v up_o their_o heart_n whereas_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v even_o unworthy_a of_o a_o immortal_a soul_n take_v up_o your_o thought_n and_o those_o object_n that_o take_v up_o the_o thought_n &_o heart_n of_o god_n about_o pardon_v sin_n your_o own_o conscience_n can_v tell_v you_o be_v very_o little_a in_o your_o thought_n and_o heart_n certain_o my_o brethren_n be_v the_o thought_n of_o man_n and_o woman_n take_v up_o about_o this_o serious_a and_o great_a business_n of_o get_v pardon_n of_o their_o sin_n it_o will_v prevent_v and_o cure_v they_o of_o thousand_o of_o other_o vain_a slight_a foolish_a and_o wicked_a thought_n there_o be_v i_o suppose_v many_o of_o you_o begin_v to_o be_v sensible_a of_o sin_n and_o of_o the_o base_a wander_a filthy_a unclean_a and_o wicked_a thought_n of_o your_o heart_n and_o you_o say_v o_o that_o we_o can_v but_o help_v ourselves_o against_o these_o wander_a vile_a and_o wicked_a thought_n sure_o this_o will_v be_v a_o great_a help_n if_o you_o will_v get_v your_o thought_n possess_v with_o serious_a subject_n it_o will_v have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o weight_n in_o it_o to_o help_v you_o against_o those_o light_n and_o vain_a thing_n your_o thought_n work_v about_o now_o of_o all_o subject_n in_o the_o world_n this_o be_v the_o most_o serious_a about_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n how_o his_o infinite_a wisdom_n have_v wrought_v to_o reconcile_v himself_o to_o your_o soul_n in_o the_o bring_n about_o the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n and_o make_v peace_n between_o himself_o and_o the_o child_n of_o man_n now_o if_o you_o will_v take_v up_o your_o thought_n about_o the_o great_a business_n of_o get_v pardon_n of_o your_o sin_n it_o will_v take_v off_o your_o thought_n from_o other_o thing_n suppose_v a_o man_n have_v a_o vain_a slight_a wander_a foolish_a heart_n yet_o if_o he_o be_v condemn_v to_o die_v some_o dreadful_a torment_a death_n his_o thought_n will_v quick_o be_v take_v off_o from_o other_o thing_n and_o take_v up_o about_o use_v mean_n if_o there_o be_v any_o possibility_n to_o deliver_v himself_o from_o death_n jerom_n in_o one_o of_o his_o epistle_n have_v this_o relation_n of_o one_o that_o be_v trouble_v with_o vile_a thought_n and_o he_o that_o he_o complain_v unto_o have_v this_o device_n i_o name_v it_o not_o to_o approve_v it_o but_o he_o have_v this_o device_n he_o bring_v the_o man_n to_o have_v a_o charge_n of_o a_o crime_n lay_v against_o he_o and_o cause_v he_o to_o be_v bring_v before_o a_o judge_n and_o put_v into_o prison_n and_o afterward_o he_o come_v to_o he_o and_o ask_v he_o how_o be_v it_o now_o with_o you_o do_v your_o vain_a thought_n still_o abide_v with_o you_o as_o they_o be_v wont_a to_o do_v he_o give_v he_o they_o upon_o this_o and_o certain_o who_o ever_o you_o be_v who_o thought_n be_v not_o mighty_o take_v up_o about_o this_o great_a subject_n of_o the_o pardon_n of_o your_o sin_n you_o take_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o vain_a and_o do_v not_o sanctify_v he_o in_o this_o great_a work_n of_o he_o and_o know_v this_o you_o that_o spend_v
danger_n lest_o god_n in_o his_o wrath_n swear_v against_o thou_o that_o thou_o shall_v never_o enter_v into_o rest_n quest_n well_o if_o the_o case_n be_v so_o than_o you_o may_v say_v what_o shall_v those_o that_o have_v some_o comfortable_a evidence_n of_o it_o chap._n xvi_o of_o the_o several_a mistake_v of_o man_n about_o the_o pardon_n of_o their_o sin_n our_o work_n now_o be_v to_o show_v who_o they_o be_v that_o have_v their_o sin_n pardon_v for_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o all_o the_o world_n so_o much_o concern_v we_o as_o to_o know_v how_o thing_n stand_v with_o we_o in_o relation_n to_o god_n and_o our_o soul_n whether_o we_o be_v pardon_v or_o no_o for_o a_o mistake_n in_o this_o be_v a_o wonderful_a mistake_n and_o yet_o how_o many_o thousand_o be_v there_o that_o venture_v the_o weight_n of_o this_o great_a business_n upon_o poor_a weak_a and_o slight_a ground_n yea_o rather_o on_o mere_a suggestion_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v first_o labour_n to_o convince_v man_n of_o their_o mistake_n about_o pardon_n of_o sin_n and_o then_o lie_v down_o some_o sound_a evidence_n of_o pardon_n in_o which_o there_o may_v be_v true_a and_o solid_a peace_n people_z be_v exceed_o apt_a to_o mistake_v in_o point_n of_o pardon_n of_o sin_n hope_v that_o god_n have_v pardon_v they_o and_o that_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v lay_v to_o their_o charge_n but_o upon_o very_o slight_a ground_n that_o will_v deceive_v they_o and_o therefore_o i_o desire_v this_o day_n you_o will_v look_v upon_o yourselves_o as_o arraign_v before_o the_o great_a god_n as_o one_o day_n you_o must_v be_v and_o let_v your_o heart_n so_o hear_v and_o attend_v to_o what_o we_o deliver_v as_o if_o god_n shall_v speak_v to_o you_o and_o say_v thou_o sinner_n such_o and_o such_o thing_n thou_o be_v privy_a to_o and_o have_v be_v guilty_a of_o what_o can_v thou_o say_v why_o the_o sentence_n of_o everlasting_a death_n shall_v not_o be_v pass_v upon_o thou_o why_o god_n shall_v not_o declare_v against_o thou_o according_a to_o his_o law_n i_o suppose_v scarce_o any_o of_o you_o but_o have_v some_o hope_n that_o god_n will_v never_o proceed_v against_o you_o according_a to_o his_o law_n for_o indeed_o if_o he_o do_v you_o be_v undo_v for_o ever_o but_o what_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o your_o hope_n why_o you_o think_v god_n will_v not_o proceed_v against_o you_o for_o your_o sin_n but_o will_v pass_v they_o by_o and_o forgive_v you_o let_v we_o a_o little_a examine_v the_o ground_n of_o it_o for_o it_o be_v of_o very_o great_a consequence_n and_o certain_o many_o people_n be_v now_o sink_v down_o into_o the_o bottomless_a pit_n of_o hell_n by_o rest_v upon_o false_a ground_n i_o shall_v labour_v to_o discover_v the_o weakness_n of_o their_o stand_n that_o rest_n on_o false_a ground_n the_o first_o be_v this_o many_o think_v that_o god_n have_v pardon_v their_o sin_n because_o it_o be_v but_o little_o they_o have_v be_v guilty_a of_o and_o for_o that_o they_o think_v there_o be_v a_o pardon_n in_o course_n be_v i_o guilty_a of_o such_o horrible_a wickedness_n and_o notorious_a sin_n as_o many_o other_o be_v then_o i_o think_v it_o and_o a_o little_a shot_n out_o of_o a_o pistol_n may_v kill_v you_o as_o well_o as_o a_o canon_n bullet_n so_o a_o little_a sin_n may_v prove_v your_o eternal_a ruin_n as_o well_o as_o a_o great_a one_o and_o therefore_o that_o be_v no_o argument_n that_o god_n have_v pass_v by_o your_o sin_n because_o they_o be_v little_a one_o and_o for_o that_o consider_v this_o one_o thing_n i_o be_o further_a speak_v of_o 2._o god_n pardon_v mercy_n be_v his_o own_o to_o do_v with_o it_o what_o he_o please_v and_o therefore_o that_o god_n may_v show_v his_o prerogative_n he_o will_v sometime_o to_o some_o pardon_v their_o great_a sin_n and_o other_o he_o will_v damn_v for_o little_a sin_n you_o think_v your_o sin_n be_v not_o so_o great_a as_o other_o man_n and_o therefore_o you_o think_v that_o god_n will_v forgive_v you_o do_v not_o deceive_v yourselves_o with_o this_o god_n will_v do_v with_o his_o mercy_n what_o he_o please_v what_o if_o he_o will_v pardon_v the_o most_o notorious_a gross_a sin_n in_o other_o and_o damn_v thou_o for_o thy_o sin_n in_o thought_n what_o if_o he_o will_v pardon_v the_o most_o notorious_a uncleanness_n and_o murder_n in_o another_o and_o damn_v thou_o for_o a_o wanton_a thought_n he_o may_v do_v it_o for_o his_o mercy_n be_v his_o own_o for_o this_o take_v the_o example_n of_o david_n and_o saul_n compare_v together_o david_n commit_v many_o sin_n but_o especial_o those_o two_o of_o adultery_n and_o murder_n and_o yet_o god_n pardon_v he_o but_o saul_n commit_v far_o less_o sin_n then_o those_o and_o yet_o god_n cast_v he_o off_o reveal_v to_o we_o that_o we_o shall_v deny_v all_o ungodliness_n and_o worldly_a lust_n and_o then_o we_o may_v with_o comfort_n look_v for_o the_o bless_a hope_n and_o appear_v of_o the_o great_a god_n and_o our_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n but_o otherwise_o you_o can_v never_o look_v for_o that_o bless_a hope_n let_v i_o speak_v to_o those_o that_o reason_n thus_o that_o they_o may_v venture_v on_o sin_n because_o of_o god_n pardon_v grace_n do_v the_o revelation_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n teach_v you_o to_o live_v ungodly_a and_o in_o worldly_a lust_n can_v you_o look_v great_a god_n certain_o it_o will_v be_v a_o terrible_a appear_v to_o thou_o that_o make_v christ_n who_o come_v to_o dissolve_v the_o work_n of_o the_o devil_n to_o be_v a_o mean_n to_o uphold_v the_o work_n of_o the_o devil_n 3._o do_v ever_o any_o child_n of_o god_n make_v use_v of_o scripture_n to_o reason_n for_o sin_n in_o such_o a_o wicked_a way_n for_o to_o presume_v to_o sin_n shall_v say_v lord_n i_o have_v hear_v much_o of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o great_a work_n of_o thy_o grace_n to_o effect_v it_o and_o of_o thy_o readiness_n to_o forgive_v this_o be_v the_o end_n of_o it_o that_o thou_o may_v be_v fear_v this_o be_v the_o effect_n this_o doctrine_n work_v in_o a_o gracious_a soul_n and_o it_o be_v a_o good_a sign_n if_o you_o suppose_v you_o do_v live_v and_o that_o you_o have_v a_o heart_n to_o do_v as_o you_o say_v yet_o your_o repentance_n may_v fail_v you_o if_o your_o repentance_n be_v no_o other_o than_o that_o which_o come_v for_o sorrow_n of_o sin_n because_o of_o the_o punishment_n it_o will_v fail_v you_o certain_o that_o repentance_n that_o must_v go_v for_o current_n in_o heaven_n be_v of_o another_o nature_n possible_o i_o may_v show_v afterward_o what_o be_v true_a and_o false_a sorrow_n but_o for_o the_o present_a i_o shall_v show_v where_o the_o mistake_n lie_v whosoever_o therefore_o that_o build_v their_o believe_v of_o the_o pardon_n of_o their_o sin_n mere_o on_o their_o sorrow_n and_o such_o kind_n of_o sorrow_n they_o be_v like_o a_o man_n that_o will_v erect_v a_o great_a building_n and_o lay_v the_o foundation_n of_o it_o in_o a_o quag-mire_n or_o on_o the_o sand_n as_o the_o scripture_n speak_v when_o storm_n come_v the_o building_n fall_v i_o shall_v speak_v hereafter_o to_o those_o that_o build_v on_o the_o sand_n but_o these_o build_v on_o a_o quagmire_n on_o a_o few_o tear_n sorrow_n and_o trouble_n of_o spirit_n they_o have_v upon_o the_o apprehension_n of_o punishment_n of_o sin_n this_o building_n will_v fall_v in_o time_n of_o straits_n and_o danger_n and_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o people_n that_o depend_v upon_o sorrow_n never_o have_v peace_n for_o how_o can_v i_o tell_v the_o measure_n of_o sorrow_n i_o be_o to_o have_v before_o peace_n be_v speak_v and_o then_o if_o they_o feel_v not_o sorrow_n they_o be_v question_v again_o it_o be_v a_o dangerous_a thing_n to_o lay_v the_o hope_n of_o pardon_n of_o sin_n upon_o our_o own_o sorrow_n where_o or_o how_o then_o shall_v we_o lay_v our_o hope_n why_o upon_o the_o sorrow_n of_o jesus_n christ_n there_o you_o shall_v find_v the_o sure_a ground_n there_o may_v be_v some_o mistake_n there_o too_o but_o for_o the_o present_a i_o shall_v not_o stay_v on_o that_o we_o must_v look_v ten_o thousand_o time_n more_o at_o the_o sorrow_n of_o christ_n than_o at_o our_o own_o sorrow_n and_o therefore_o when_o your_o heart_n be_v trouble_v and_o you_o look_v for_o mercy_n depend_v more_o ten_o thousand_o time_n on_o the_o sorrow_n of_o christ_n than_o on_o all_o your_o own_o sorrow_n for_o your_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n can_v satisfy_v god_n justice_n and_o that_o that_o must_v be_v a_o ground_n of_o hope_n for_o the_o pardon_n of_o my_o sin_n must_v be_v something_o that_o must_v satisfy_v the_o justice_n of_o god_n for_o though_o there_o be_v never_o so_o much_o sorrow_n yet_o it_o will_v not_o satisfy_v god_n justice_n and_o consider_v further_o true_a sorrow_n rather_o follow_v the_o work_n of_o justification_n than_o prece_v it_o as_o thus_o i_o be_o not_o therefore_o pardon_v because_o i_o mourn_v but_o because_o i_o be_o pardon_v therefore_o i_o come_v to_o mourn_v so_o stand_v the_o truth_n in_o divinity_n in_o point_n of_o justification_n and_o repentance_n you_o pervert_v the_o order_n if_o you_o think_v because_o you_o mourn_v and_o be_v a_o little_a sorrowful_a that_o therefore_o you_o shall_v be_v pardon_v the_o that_o we_o be_v do_v for_o god_n like_v well_o the_o exercise_n of_o the_o work_n of_o common_a gift_n though_o they_o be_v not_o save_v and_o to_o eternal_a life_n yet_o god_n like_v the_o exercise_n of_o they_o so_o far_o as_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n good_a and_o commend_v they_o when_o that_o young_a man_n come_v to_o christ_n mar._n 10.21_o christ_n look_v upon_o he_o and_o love_v way_n to_o come_v in_o with_o the_o save_a work_n of_o his_o spirit_n therefore_o it_o be_v not_o to_o no_o purpose_n that_o we_o be_v put_v on_o poor_a creature_n to_o do_v what_o they_o can_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n sanctify_v he_o that_o have_v it_o and_o follow_v upon_o our_o union_n with_o christ_n though_o god_n use_v to_o carry_v on_o the_o soul_n in_o the_o way_n of_o legal_a terror_n humiliation_n and_o the_o like_a yet_o these_o be_v not_o the_o work_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o therefore_o this_o may_v help_v many_o a_o poor_a soul_n about_o terror_n of_o conscience_n and_o humiliation_n that_o be_v trouble_v that_o they_o never_o have_v those_o degree_n as_o other_o have_v why_o as_o they_o do_v not_o prepare_v and_o fit_v thou_o for_o christ_n so_o the_o want_n of_o they_o be_v no_o hindrance_n to_o the_o receive_n of_o christ_n the_o three_o caution_n be_v this_o that_o follow_v on_o the_o other_o that_o though_o you_o put_v possibility_n of_o obtain_v pardon_n be_v worth_a the_o call_n forth_o of_o all_o our_o strength_n know_v that_o the_o very_a possibility_n of_o have_v sin_n pardon_v be_v enough_o to_o set_v all_o your_o heart_n a_o work_n to_o seek_v after_o it_o though_o god_n do_v not_o tie_v himself_o to_o come_v in_o then_o and_o pardon_v it_o be_v not_o thus_o that_o god_n will_v have_v his_o creature_n comfort_n of_o their_o soul_n that_o be_v in_o a_o good_a condition_n by_o what_o they_o find_v out_o of_o the_o word_n so_o they_o shall_v account_v it_o a_o vain_a thing_n to_o rest_v on_o their_o own_o conceit_n in_o time_n of_o trouble_n or_o in_o the_o say_n of_o other_o beside_o what_o they_o have_v out_o of_o the_o word_n the_o soul_n say_v i_o be_o afraid_a my_o state_n be_v not_o good_a but_o o_o my_o soul_n be_v there_o any_o thing_n in_o the_o word_n that_o say_v thus_o that_o they_o that_o be_v thus_o and_o thus_o be_v not_o pardon_v as_o i_o must_v not_o conclude_v i_o be_o pardon_v but_o must_v bring_v something_o out_o of_o the_o word_n that_o say_v it_o so_o i_o must_v not_o conclude_v my_o state_n be_v bad_a without_o the_o word_n say_v so_o too_o but_o i_o find_v many_o distemper_n and_o many_o wander_n in_o my_o soul_n give_v i_o leave_v to_o ask_v you_o this_o where_o do_v god_n word_n say_v that_o such_o a_o man_n that_o have_v a_o great_a many_o wander_a thought_n be_v not_o justify_v where_o do_v the_o word_n of_o god_n say_v that_o a_o heart_n that_o be_v under_o the_o remainder_n of_o some_o corruption_n and_o the_o soul_n labour_v under_o they_o as_o much_o as_o under_o any_o burden_n in_o the_o world_n where_o do_v the_o word_n say_v that_o that_o soul_n be_v not_o justify_v many_o people_n in_o the_o case_n of_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n although_o they_o have_v some_o evidence_n and_o good_a ground_n out_o of_o the_o word_n for_o they_o yet_o will_v have_v many_o fear_n and_o doubt_n because_o of_o the_o remainder_n of_o such_o and_o such_o corruption_n in_o they_o but_o now_o the_o ground_n of_o their_o doubt_n be_v their_o own_o fear_n and_o nothing_o out_o of_o the_o word_n and_o so_o when_o any_o speak_v and_o apply_v the_o word_n unto_o they_o they_o can_v say_v but_o it_o be_v suitable_a to_o their_o condition_n and_o that_o god_n have_v show_v mercy_n unto_o they_o but_o so_o soon_o as_o you_o be_v go_v the_o fear_n and_o suggestion_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n prevail_v against_o they_o to_o take_v away_o all_o their_o comfort_n more_o than_o all_o the_o application_n of_o the_o word_n prevail_v to_o uphold_v &_o continue_v their_o comfort_n it_o be_v just_a with_o many_o that_o be_v gracious_a in_o the_o case_n of_o fear_n and_o doubt_n as_o it_o be_v with_o the_o wicked_a in_o regard_n of_o their_o hope_n a_o wicked_a man_n have_v the_o word_n against_o he_o that_o he_o be_v not_o in_o a_o good_a condition_n but_o his_o own_o self-love_n and_o conce_n encourage_v he_o to_o presume_v that_o he_o be_v in_o a_o good_a estate_n now_o he_o regard_v his_o own_o opinion_n and_o conceit_n and_o presume_v upon_o that_o that_o his_o estate_n be_v good_a more_o than_o on_o whatsoever_o be_v say_v unto_o he_o out_o of_o the_o word_n that_o it_o be_v not_o so_o so_o the_o people_n of_o god_n although_o they_o be_v in_o a_o good_a estate_n yet_o their_o own_o fear_n so_o damp_n their_o heart_n that_o make_v they_o question_v that_o it_o be_v not_o so_o but_o the_o ground_n of_o it_o be_v their_o own_o fear_n as_o the_o ground_n of_o the_o wicked_a in_o think_v their_o estate_n be_v good_a be_v from_o their_o own_o opinion_n so_o the_o people_n of_o god_n many_o time_n from_o their_o own_o conceit_n and_o opinion_n rather_o than_o from_o the_o word_n think_v their_o estate_n be_v bad_a take_v this_o rule_n as_o you_o must_v receive_v no_o comfort_n but_o out_o of_o the_o word_n so_o you_o must_v not_o receive_v any_o trouble_n but_o from_o the_o word_n when_o you_o receive_v trouble_v any_o other_o way_n you_o do_v not_o consider_v that_o god_n have_v lay_v your_o estate_n so_o high_a that_o all_o your_o trouble_n depend_v on_o nothing_o but_o the_o word_n and_o therefore_o answer_v all_o with_o scripture_n when_o the_o devil_n cast_v temptation_n before_o thou_o bid_v he_o prove_v that_o thy_o estate_n be_v not_o good_a from_o the_o word_n i_o have_v this_o out_o of_o the_o word_n to_o prove_v it_o be_v so_o and_o thou_o have_v nothing_o to_o the_o contrary_a in_o other_o thing_n you_o will_v not_o be_v baffle_v as_o in_o your_o evidence_n for_o your_o estate_n suppose_v a_o man_n come_v and_o lie_v claim_v unto_o it_o although_o you_o can_v perhaps_o make_v out_o your_o title_n clear_a yet_o you_o will_v bid_v he_o prove_v the_o contrary_a and_o show_v what_o ground_n he_o have_v to_o lay_v claim_n to_o it_o it_o be_v not_o the_o clamour_n and_o talk_v of_o other_o man_n that_o will_v make_v you_o quit_v your_o hold_n or_o satisfy_v you_o that_o it_o be_v never_o right_o you_o but_o let_v the_o devil_n come_v and_o clamour_v against_o your_o soul_n and_o you_o be_v ready_a to_o join_v with_o he_o and_o say_v it_o be_v so_o indeed_o i_o be_o a_o hypocrite_n and_o i_o have_v no_o true_a grace_n nor_o spiritual_a life_n my_o soul_n be_v under_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n and_o dominion_n of_o sin_n still_o how_o unworthy_a do_v you_o carry_v it_o to_o the_o bless_a spirit_n of_o god_n and_o all_o the_o grace_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n that_o have_v be_v manifest_v and_o make_v know_v unto_o you_o concern_v the_o pardon_n of_o your_o sin_n how_o unbefitting_a be_v it_o that_o on_o every_o clamour_n of_o satan_n and_o stir_v of_o corruption_n in_o your_o own_o heart_n that_o you_o shall_v raze_v the_o foundation_n of_o all_o your_o comfort_n by_o call_v all_o the_o work_n of_o god_n present_o into_o question_n many_o a_o poor_a creature_n that_o find_v by_o evidence_n out_o of_o the_o word_n that_o their_o estate_n be_v good_a they_o go_v away_o cheerful_a but_o if_o the_o next_o day_n there_o be_v any_o stir_n of_o corruption_n they_o let_v go_v all_o and_o raze_v the_o foundation_n of_o all_o their_o comfort_n walk_v not_o so_o unworthy_a of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n depend_v upon_o the_o word_n as_o for_o your_o trouble_n so_o for_o your_o comfort_n as_o you_o be_v not_o comfort_v with_o any_o thing_n but_o from_o what_o the_o word_n of_o god_n speak_v to_o you_o so_o be_v discourage_v with_o nothing_o but_o where_o you_o find_v the_o word_n of_o god_n against_o you_o the_o five_o rule_n be_v this_o when_o at_o any_o time_n you_o be_v put_v to_o seek_v your_o evidence_n and_o can_v find_v they_o the_o best_a way_n be_v rather_o to_o renew_v than_o to_o spend_v time_n in_o find_v of_o the_o old_a as_o suppose_v any_o man_n or_o woman_n be_v search_v out_o such_o evidence_n for_o salvation_n which_o they_o have_v before_o and_o can_v find_v they_o it_o may_v be_v they_o be_v pore_v upon_o their_o own_o heart_n for_o such_o and_o such_o work_n as_o they_o have_v have_v heretofore_o and_o can_v find_v they_o and_o so_o be_v ready_a to_o conclude_v that_o all_o be_v naught_o and_o lie_v down_o as_o people_n disconsolate_a because_o their_o condition_n be_v not_o good_a they_o can_v find_v such_o evidence_n as_o heretofore_o they_o have_v now_o in_o this_o case_n the_o best_a way_n be_v if_o i_o can_v find_v my_o evidence_n or_o the_o use_n of_o they_o i_o have_v before_o to_o renew_v they_o the_o time_n i_o spend_v in_o seek_v and_o discourage_v of_o my_o heart_n if_o i_o spend_v it_o in_o act_n and_o work_n of_o my_o heart_n after_o god_n for_o the_o renew_n of_o my_o evidence_n perhaps_o i_o may_v have_v renew_v they_o in_o that_o time_n as_o in_o matter_n between_o man_n and_o woman_n in_o this_o world_n they_o have_v evidence_n that_o will_v clear_v the_o matter_n in_o difference_n but_o perhaps_o they_o can_v find_v they_o or_o they_o be_v grow_v so_o old_a that_o they_o can_v read_v they_o and_o they_o spend_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o time_n about_o they_o whereas_o possible_o do_v they_o go_v to_o the_o court_n of_o roles_n they_o may_v have_v they_o renew_v with_o less_o charge_n and_o time_n so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o soul_n when_o it_o can_v find_v such_o and_o such_o evidence_n it_o spend_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o time_n and_o sit_v down_o in_o discouragement_n and_o disquietness_n of_o heart_n when_o as_o perhaps_o in_o less_o time_n thou_o may_v have_v renew_v they_o as_o thus_o suppose_v thou_o be_v look_v after_o this_o evidence_n of_o thy_o call_v for_o god_n call_v who_o he_o justify_v now_o thou_o be_v look_v after_o thy_o call_n and_o thou_o be_v trouble_v that_o thou_o do_v not_o remember_v how_o god_n do_v work_v upon_o thy_o heart_n then_o or_o heretofore_o and_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o time_n be_v spend_v can_v you_o find_v how_o it_o be_v with_o you_o then_o no_o then_o fall_v upon_o this_o course_n listen_v to_o thy_o soul_n do_v not_o i_o now_o find_v the_o work_n of_o god_n in_o i_o do_v not_o i_o find_v he_o now_o draw_v of_o my_o heart_n out_o of_o the_o world_n unto_o himself_o and_o do_v not_o my_o heart_n listen_v unto_o this_o call_n for_o the_o call_v of_o god_n be_v not_o only_o at_o first_o conversion_n but_o god_n be_v always_o call_v and_o draw_v the_o heart_n from_o the_o world_n unto_o heretofore_o if_o now_o at_o this_o present_a thou_o can_v surrender_v up_o thyself_o to_o god_n in_o a_o everlasting_a covenant_n this_o be_v enough_o do_v it_o now_o if_o you_o can_v find_v your_o like_a case_n if_o you_o can_v find_v your_o old_a evidence_n fall_v to_o work_v to_o renew_v your_o evidence_n and_o do_v not_o spend_v time_n in_o lie_v down_o under_o the_o discouragement_n of_o your_o own_o heart_n the_o six_o rule_n be_v this_o when_o you_o examine_v yourselves_o to_o find_v out_o your_o evidence_n carry_v this_o think_v along_o with_o you_o that_o you_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o this_o will_v be_v of_o marvellous_a use_n unto_o you_o perhaps_o to_o some_o these_o be_v very_o dry_a thing_n and_o they_o see_v but_o little_a to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o not_o in_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n certain_o that_o many_o be_v so_o trouble_v in_o their_o conscience_n about_o their_o eternal_a estate_n it_o be_v on_o this_o ground_n because_o they_o look_v upon_o god_n in_o the_o way_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n if_o they_o find_v any_o corruption_n stir_v and_o break_v forth_o and_o temptation_n strong_a upon_o they_o they_o think_v present_o all_o be_v naught_o and_o that_o god_n will_v never_o accept_v of_o they_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n if_o we_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n the_o least_o stir_v of_o corruption_n it_o be_v enough_o to_o cast_v the_o soul_n down_o into_o eternal_a horror_n as_o adam_n though_o he_o have_v never_o so_o much_o goodness_n before_o by_o the_o image_n of_o god_n upon_o he_o yet_o one_o sin_n eternal_o cast_v he_o if_o there_o have_v not_o come_v in_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n now_o though_o people_n will_v acknowledge_v there_o be_v a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n yet_o upon_o the_o stir_n of_o their_o corruption_n they_o carry_v it_o as_o that_o it_o serve_v for_o no_o other_o use_n than_o if_o they_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o as_o if_o there_o be_v no_o covenant_n of_o grace_n at_o all_o now_o what_o a_o dishonour_n be_v this_o to_o the_o riches_n of_o god_n goodness_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n that_o tell_v we_o we_o be_v not_o to_o be_v judge_v for_o our_o eternal_a estate_n by_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o tell_v we_o that_o he_o that_o must_v be_v our_o judge_n for_o our_o eternal_a condition_n be_v our_o advocate_n with_o the_o father_n and_o tell_v we_o also_o that_o god_n accept_v of_o the_o uprightness_n and_o the_o sincerity_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o that_o the_o want_n of_o perfection_n shall_v never_o damn_v thy_o soul_n he_o that_o stand_v before_o the_o lord_n to_o make_v atonement_n and_o to_o be_v our_o advocate_n to_o plead_v with_o the_o father_n for_o we_o he_o it_o be_v that_o must_v be_v the_o judge_n of_o our_o eternal_a estate_n and_o therefore_o when_o i_o set_v myself_o before_o the_o lord_n i_o consider_v that_o i_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o he_o in_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n suppose_v i_o find_v and_o feel_v such_o and_o such_o corruption_n and_o weakness_n in_o i_o be_v it_o not_o possible_a that_o my_o estate_n be_v happy_a by_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n collect_v yourselves_o and_o say_v why_o do_v i_o determine_v of_o my_o everlasting_a condition_n have_v i_o to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o can_v these_o imperfection_n stand_v with_o it_o why_o do_v i_o make_v such_o conclusion_n that_o my_o state_n be_v naught_o because_o of_o the_o stir_n of_o such_o and_o such_o corruption_n the_o doubt_n and_o fear_n of_o most_o christian_n arise_v from_o hence_o because_o they_o have_v not_o a_o clear_a understanding_n of_o the_o difference_n between_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n there_o be_v nothing_o in_o the_o world_n will_v so_o satisfy_v the_o conscience_n of_o man_n and_o woman_n so_o as_o a_o clear_a understanding_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n many_o people_n cry_v out_o of_o the_o preacher_n that_o they_o disquiet_v and_o trouble_v the_o heart_n of_o people_n by_o their_o preach_a the_o truth_n be_v no_o preacher_n occasion_n so_o much_o the_o trouble_n and_o perplexity_n of_o conscience_n as_o those_o that_o
