he_o and_o yet_o this_o be_v his_o hypocrisy_n he_o do_v all_o those_o thing_n and_o have_v no_o intention_n at_o all_o to_o deceive_v the_o world_n or_o himself_o by_o it_o but_o he_o want_v the_o principle_n that_o shall_v have_v carry_v he_o on_o in_o all_o thing_n so_o that_o a_o man_n appear_v to_o be_v what_o he_o be_v not_o appear_v to_o be_v a_o saint_n and_o do_v duty_n well_o but_o be_v not_o this_o come_v from_o a_o want_n of_o principle_n a_o defect_n in_o that_o it_o be_v not_o my_o intention_n that_o make_v i_o a_o hypocrite_n before_o god_n but_o if_o i_o go_v on_o in_o profession_n and_o have_v not_o what_o shall_v make_v out_o that_o profession_n to_o be_v from_o god_n it_o be_v hypocrisy_n only_o these_o be_v the_o most_o to_o be_v pity_v and_o bewail_v that_o go_v innocent_o to_o hell_n they_o think_v they_o have_v grace_n and_o no_o man_n in_o the_o world_n can_v persuade_v they_o to_o the_o contrary_a and_o as_o strong_a a_o faith_n as_o any_o in_o the_o world_n and_o alas_o they_o have_v not_o they_o think_v they_o love_v christ_n and_o will_v do_v any_o thing_n for_o he_o but_o they_o never_o have_v that_o love_n flame_v in_o they_o from_o the_o have_v their_o name_n enroll_v for_o saint_n in_o church_n and_o yet_o have_v a_o jealousy_n of_o their_o own_o hypocrisy_n and_o go_v on_o so_o for_o many_o year_n under_o many_o regret_v and_o wound_n of_o spirit_n they_o have_v many_o twang_v that_o pierce_v they_o sometime_o and_o yet_o the_o conviction_n be_v not_o so_o strong_a as_o to_o show_v they_o their_o miserable_a and_o vile_a estate_n or_o to_o press_v they_o on_o to_o the_o through_o work_n of_o the_o gospel_n upon_o their_o heart_n and_o you_o shall_v find_v those_o person_n very_o high_a in_o prayer_n and_o very_o able_a to_o speak_v well_o in_o their_o converse_n with_o saint_n but_o they_o never_o meet_v with_o god_n in_o duty_n never_o have_v god_n assistance_n never_o find_v that_o spiritual_a strength_n all_o and_o never_o care_v for_o the_o other_o part_n of_o religion_n if_o they_o can_v but_o maintain_v that_o so_o it_o be_v with_o many_o in_o these_o time_n never_o care_v how_o the_o work_n of_o god_n go_v on_o in_o the_o world_n or_o their_o own_o soul_n so_o they_o have_v their_o opinion_n so_o if_o a_o man_n be_v of_o a_o facile_a and_o easy_a nature_n to_o be_v persuade_v and_o enter_v upon_o religion_n he_o will_v easy_o conclude_v that_o all_o the_o promise_n be_v he_o take_v every_o thing_n for_o grant_v in_o the_o gospel_n and_o apply_v it_o to_o his_o own_o soul_n as_o if_o he_o have_v a_o peculiar_a interest_n to_o all_o the_o promise_n and_o so_o grow_v in_o a_o confident_a secure_a frame_n and_o that_o be_v the_o hypocrite_n i_o tell_v you_o be_v confident_a that_o out_o of_o the_o easiness_n of_o his_o nature_n take_v all_o thing_n in_o the_o gospel_n as_o his_o own_o though_o he_o never_o see_v the_o need_n and_o want_v of_o they_o and_o never_o know_v the_o worth_n of_o they_o for_o i_o tell_v you_o that_o self-love_n be_v the_o ground_n of_o all_o hypocrisy_n in_o a_o man_n spirit_n if_o a_o man_n can_v get_v any_o thing_n for_o himself_o as_o old_a that_o have_v get_v a_o vein_n of_o discuss_v and_o speak_v as_o real_a thing_n as_o any_o man_n can_v speak_v in_o the_o gospel_n how_o far_o may_v this_o man_n go_v and_o yet_o here_o lie_v his_o hypocrisy_n first_o all_z these_o thing_n go_v no_o further_o than_o the_o head_n they_o be_v never_o stamp_v upon_o the_o heart_n never_o upon_o the_o breast_n they_o be_v artificial_o form_v in_o the_o understanding_n never_o come_v down_o to_o be_v imprint_v in_o the_o soul_n upon_o the_o will_n &_o affection_n never_o have_v those_o heavenly_a influence_n drop_v in_o the_o favour_n the_o sweetness_n the_o power_n and_o the_o virtue_n of_o that_o knowledge_n proportionable_o work_v in_o their_o spirit_n and_o there_o lie_v their_o hypocrisy_n that_o all_o those_o thing_n be_v but_o artificial_o form_v in_o the_o understanding_n second_o all_o that_o such_o a_o man_n do_v act_n in_o the_o expression_n of_o any_o knowledge_n he_o have_v it_o be_v with_o secret_a glory_n he_o joy_v he_o take_v himself_o to_o be_v somewhat_o now_o and_o make_v all_o these_o thing_n to_o be_v his_o own_o as_o though_o he_o receive_v they_o from_o christ_n he_o glory_v in_o they_o there_o be_v all_o shame_v he_o there_o you_o make_v he_o miserable_a if_o you_o hit_v he_o there_o you_o cut_v upon_o his_o heart_n vein_n and_o that_o be_v the_o way_n of_o god_n common_o with_o those_o sort_n their_o part_n die_v and_o god_n withdraw_v by_o degree_n and_o let_v knowledge_n die_v let_v corruption_n come_v in_o so_o much_o upon_o they_o as_o they_o lose_v all_o at_o last_o but_o it_o be_v wonderful_a to_o conceive_v how_o far_o these_o conviction_n will_v carry_v a_o man_n when_o he_o have_v a_o candle_n light_v by_o god_n how_o far_o he_o may_v walk_v in_o the_o gospel_n when_o god_n shall_v shine_v in_o as_o it_o be_v upon_o nature_n how_o it_o will_v appear_v before_o the_o son_n of_o man_n it_o lie_v in_o the_o head_n and_o self_n be_v common_o advance_v not_o jesus_n christ_n that_o christ_n may_v have_v all_o the_o praise_n and_o honour_n as_o it_o be_v say_v in_o job_n of_o the_o hypocrite_n the_o heart_n of_o he_o be_v little_a worth_n he_o may_v have_v some_o fine_a part_n and_o be_v ingenuous_a in_o his_o understanding_n but_o his_o heart_n be_v the_o worst_a there_o be_v nothing_o but_o sin_n and_o self_n together_o and_o inward_a secret_a contradict_v and_o work_v against_o god_n and_o the_o power_n of_o religion_n so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o foolish_a virgin_n they_o go_v on_o glorious_o but_o at_o last_o they_o say_v our_o lamp_n be_v go_v out_o we_o have_v lose_v our_o light_n we_o have_v slumber_v and_o sleep_v away_o our_o time_n we_o depend_v upon_o our_o gift_n and_o endowment_n and_o our_o fair_a act_n in_o the_o world_n and_o our_o lamp_n be_v go_v out_o and_o now_o we_o have_v nothing_o to_o show_v for_o all_o our_o profession_n i_o will_v a_o little_a set_v home_o this_o with_o a_o word_n or_o two_o of_o use_n use_v first_o therefore_o if_o this_o be_v so_o that_o there_o may_v be_v so_o many_o sort_n of_o hypocrite_n and_o strain_n i_o beseech_v you_o examine_v your_o own_o heart_n and_o put_v your_o soul_n upon_o it_o find_v out_o this_o leaven_n i_o tell_v you_o why_o hypocrisy_n be_v call_v leaven_n because_o of_o the_o spread_a nature_n of_o it_o none_o know_v how_o it_o spread_v hypocrisy_n have_v many_o lord_n many_o that_o go_v so_o neat_o now_o will_v have_v a_o black_a character_n at_o last_o oh_o for_o christ_n to_o say_v go_v you_o curse_v at_o the_o last_o day_n to_o a_o glorious_a professor_n what_o a_o word_n will_v that_o be_v appear_v to_o what_o you_o be_v indeed_o and_o strive_v to_o be_v what_o you_o shall_v be_v take_v not_o up_o ordinary_a and_o common_a thing_n in_o your_o own_o spirit_n lay_v not_o the_o weight_n of_o god_n upon_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v not_o real_a that_o be_v but_o mere_a gilt_n upon_o copper_n that_o will_v not_o endure_v man_n be_v apt_a to_o take_v themselves_o up_o with_o profession_n if_o they_o have_v but_o a_o fair_a face_n if_o they_o have_v but_o a_o handsome_a carriage_n in_o the_o world_n oh_o that_o christ_n will_v have_v charity_n to_o you_o at_o the_o last_o day_n as_o we_o must_v have_v now_o christ_n love_v those_o that_o be_v holy_a and_o he_o love_v to_o make_v they_o holy_a he_o must_v judge_v you_o as_o you_o be_v no_o your_o own_o estate_n second_o grace_n will_v lie_v in_o a_o little_a room_n in_o a_o very_a little_a compass_n it_o lie_v not_o in_o the_o flaunt_a garb_n and_o mode_n of_o the_o time_n it_o be_v like_o a_o diamond_n little_a but_o of_o great_a prize_n three_o i_o will_v have_v no_o man_n take_v up_o with_o show_n it_o be_v not_o my_o design_n to_o make_v you_o hypocrite_n but_o to_o glorious_a thing_n give_v i_o that_o soul_n that_o can_v say_v i_o have_v many_o thing_n that_o i_o be_o ashamed_a of_o before_o god_n night_n and_o day_n but_o i_o be_o sound_a i_o be_o real_a though_o i_o be_v to_o be_v search_v by_o god_n i_o have_v that_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d that_o inward_a sincerity_n that_o be_v not_o only_o a_o simplicity_n of_o spirit_n but_o such_o a_o god_n be_v and_o what_o christ_n be_v and_o what_o god_n in_o christ_n be_v what_o it_o be_v to_o have_v thy_o corruption_n strike_v at_o the_o heart_n and_o be_v lay_v as_o low_a as_o hell_n in_o thy_o own_o soul_n before_o ever_o thou_o enjoy_v any_o thing_n of_o god_n in_o thy_o own_o soul_n and_o when_o thou_o have_v do_v so_o thou_o must_v try_v all_o over_o again_o by_o a_o spirit_n of_o fire_n and_o burn_a and_o have_v not_o only_o thy_o own_o reason_n to_o witness_v but_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o scripture_n to_o witness_v to_o what_o be_v in_o thy_o heart_n to_o what_o thy_o conscience_n speak_v and_o all_o these_o thing_n will_v be_v bring_v to_o you_o one_o day_n though_o you_o look_v slight_o over_o they_o now_o oh_o that_o man_n will_v be_v careful_a to_o avoid_v hypocrisy_n this_o wicked_a leaven_n that_o be_v in_o so_o many_o soul_n to_o discern_v the_o leaven_n that_o work_v in_o every_o part_n so_o invisible_o beg_v of_o god_n a_o spirit_n of_o sincerity_n to_o keep_v you_o from_o your_o own_o heart_n beg_v of_o the_o lord_n that_o he_o never_o will_v leave_v you_o under_o any_o slight_a ordinary_a common_a working_n of_o spirit_n but_o put_v you_o to_o it_o every_o day_n show_v you_o your_o own_o frame_n never_o be_v quiet_a until_o you_o find_v those_o real_a thing_n and_o then_o have_v a_o little_a grace_n yet_o if_o in_o sincerity_n you_o will_v we_o will_v speak_v to_o at_o this_o time_n first_o hypocrisy_n as_o to_o prayer_n which_o be_v a_o duty_n that_o hypocrite_n most_o glory_n in_o of_o any_o that_o be_v the_o duty_n wherein_o saint_n get_v so_o much_o of_o god_n and_o have_v so_o much_o experience_n of_o god_n in_o it_o be_v a_o duty_n that_o be_v use_v as_o the_o common_a way_n to_o get_v whatsoever_o a_o soul_n will_v have_v let_v your_o request_n be_v make_v know_v to_o god_n therefore_o there_o be_v no_o duty_n a_o hypocrite_n be_v more_o exact_a in_o than_o that_o for_o he_o imitate_v a_o saint_n that_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o prayer_n how_o much_o of_o god_n be_v let_v into_o they_o and_o how_o much_o their_o soul_n be_v let_v out_o unto_o god_n when_o none_o know_v it_o it_o be_v a_o duty_n that_o be_v of_o that_o request_n among_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a that_o if_o a_o hypocrite_n be_v not_o good_a at_o that_o he_o be_v good_a at_o nothing_o if_o he_o be_v not_o very_o curious_a there_o he_o will_v be_v of_o little_a account_n for_o it_o be_v common_a for_o one_o to_o desire_v to_o pray_v one_o for_o another_o and_o with_o one_o another_o abundance_n of_o income_n come_v by_o it_o in_o a_o spiritual_a way_n and_o therefore_o that_o be_v the_o care_n of_o a_o hypocrite_n to_o do_v that_o well_o whatever_o he_o neglect_v and_o you_o shall_v find_v that_o as_o to_o their_o part_n they_o never_o excel_v so_o
adultery_n and_o yet_o come_v and_o appear_v before_o i_o they_o have_v brazen_a face_n for_o all_o that_o they_o never_o feel_v the_o power_n of_o conviction_n upon_o their_o spirit_n and_o if_o god_n shall_v show_v any_o man_n any_o one_o sin_n he_o will_v never_o act_v that_o sin_n but_o he_o will_v abhor_v the_o very_a sight_n of_o it_o but_o there_o be_v such_o poor_a common_a general_a conviction_n mere_o from_o conscience_n conscience_n have_v a_o power_n within_o a_o man_n but_o it_o never_o stir_v with_o terror_n till_o god_n anew_o as_o it_o be_v show_v his_o sin_n and_o his_o and_o most_o of_o his_o hypocrisy_n be_v in_o his_o duty_n and_o that_o be_v exceed_o strange_a but_o it_o be_v most_o true_a for_o a_o hypocrite_n think_v by_o his_o duty_n to_o wear_v out_o all_o his_o deceit_n as_o he_o colour_v his_o hypocrisy_n by_o it_o so_o he_o hope_v to_o wear_v it_o out_o by_o it_o he_o hope_v it_o be_v a_o work_n of_o time_n though_o he_o have_v a_o bad_a heart_n yet_o he_o hope_v to_o have_v a_o better_a heart_n though_o he_o never_o look_v to_o christ_n for_o it_o four_o he_o have_v something_o at_o present_a that_o he_o get_v by_o his_o profession_n something_o that_o be_v suitable_a to_o some_o end_n some_o lust_n or_o other_o of_o his_o own_o and_o that_o keep_v he_o up_o notwithstanding_o those_o general_a conviction_n i_o know_v not_o how_o to_o call_v they_o conviction_n they_o be_v so_o cold_a and_o poor_a upon_o a_o man_n heart_n but_o he_o hope_v to_o get_v something_o either_o applause_n of_o man_n to_o be_v a_o good_a christian_a or_o something_o to_o be_v think_v of_o by_o man_n or_o to_o get_v some_o peace_n of_o conscience_n that_o the_o violence_n and_o desperateness_n of_o wrath_n fall_v not_o upon_o he_o ay_o but_o five_o which_o be_v most_o of_o all_o that_o i_o may_v show_v you_o this_o god_n do_v judicial_o give_v up_o those_o kind_n of_o hypocrite_n that_o have_v begin_v without_o he_o take_v up_o profession_n without_o any_o working_n of_o god_n upon_o their_o soul_n he_o give_v they_o up_o common_o unto_o a_o reprobate_a mind_n that_o you_o have_v so_o common_o name_v in_o the_o new_a from_o they_o absolute_o that_o they_o find_v nothing_o of_o former_a strength_n at_o all_o so_o he_o do_v many_o time_n with_o those_o that_o have_v live_v upon_o part_n gift_n and_o endowment_n it_o be_v ordinary_a for_o god_n to_o leave_v they_o as_o you_o have_v it_o in_o john_n 15._o they_o wither_v the_o life_n and_o sap_n that_o they_o be_v wont_a to_o have_v be_v withdraw_v and_o the_o exact_o as_o he_o can_v so_o it_o be_v with_o balaam_n num._n 21.22_o 23._o all_o along_o how_o glad_o will_v he_o have_v go_v to_o curse_v the_o israelite_n but_o god_n will_v not_o suffer_v he_o hypocrite_n though_o they_o know_v themselves_o to_o be_v unsound_a at_o the_o heart_n and_o bottom_n yet_o they_o will_v have_v all_o think_v well_o of_o they_o what_o they_o want_v of_o integrity_n that_o they_o will_v make_v up_o in_o the_o handsomeness_n of_o their_o deportment_n and_o carriage_n up_o and_o down_o the_o world_n second_o though_o he_o know_v himself_o to_o be_v a_o hypocrite_n yet_o there_o be_v none_o will_v be_v more_o censorious_a of_o hypocrisy_n in_o other_o even_o to_o poor_a saint_n but_o that_o be_v a_o common_a rule_n he_o will_v be_v severe_a in_o the_o censure_v of_o other_o and_o he_o may_v think_v by_o that_o that_o other_o may_v think_v he_o far_o from_o hypocrisy_n three_o nay_o what_o shall_v i_o say_v
