yield_v due_a obedience_n unto_o his_o command_n and_o if_o we_o can_v rest_v upon_o his_o promise_n and_o discern_v his_o wisdom_n and_o glory_n by_o his_o work_n this_o must_v be_v the_o main_a end_n of_o our_o meditation_n and_o if_o we_o do_v serious_o meditate_v upon_o the_o holy_a thing_n of_o god_n to_o a_o holy_a end_n than_o god_n will_v accept_v they_o and_o we_o shall_v be_v edify_v send_v forth_o any_o beam_n of_o true_a consolation_n to_o our_o soul_n wherefore_o if_o our_o heart_n be_v not_o sanctify_v and_o season_v with_o grace_n our_o meditation_n can_v be_v to_o the_o cor._n 1._o 12_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n will_v make_v our_o conversation_n in_o this_o world_n to_o be_v in_o simplicity_n and_o godly_a sincerity_n the_o seven_o direction_n be_v to_o choose_v such_o time_n and_o such_o place_n as_o be_v most_o fit_v and_o most_o convenienient_a for_o this_o holy_a duty_n that_o we_o be_v not_o interrupt_v by_o any_o occurrence_n of_o worldly_a occasion_n than_o his_o heart_n can_v be_v faithful_a towards_o god_n and_o there_o will_v be_v no_o place_n in_o his_o soul_n to_o receive_v that_o true_a comfort_n which_o otherwise_o he_o may_v have_v in_o the_o sweet_a fruition_n of_o god_n by_o his_o pious_a and_o devout_a meditation_n also_o if_o he_o delight_v to_o ruminate_v upon_o his_o carnal_a pleasure_n or_o upon_o any_o other_o evil_a concupiscence_n or_o to_o call_v to_o remembrance_n with_o approbation_n his_o former_a iniquity_n he_o do_v sin_n over_o again_o those_o former_a sin_n and_o do_v defile_v his_o precious_a soul_n with_o uncleanness_n and_o pollution_n
whereas_o both_o his_o soul_n and_o his_o body_n ought_v to_o be_v keep_v clean_o and_o undefiled_a that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n may_v delight_v to_o dwell_v therein_o and_o that_o his_o heart_n and_o affection_n may_v be_v always_o fit_a for_o heavenly_a contemplation_n so_o likewise_o if_o his_o chief_a study_n and_o care_n be_v to_o adorn_v his_o profession_n of_o godliness_n only_o with_o a_o specious_a form_n and_o fair_a outside_n of_o purity_n and_o holiness_n and_o do_v not_o faithful_o strive_v to_o show_v the_o power_n of_o it_o in_o his_o life_n and_o conversation_n he_o delude_v his_o own_o soul_n and_o do_v feed_v it_o with_o the_o mere_a shadow_n of_o consolation_n and_o not_o with_o the_o substance_n of_o sound_a comfort_n which_o be_v only_o find_v in_o the_o power_n of_o godliness_n if_o these_o or_o the_o like_o be_v the_o meditation_n of_o our_o heart_n and_o if_o our_o affection_n keep_v at_o so_o far_o a_o distance_n from_o god_n and_o from_o all_o true_a goodness_n that_o we_o have_v scarce_o any_o thought_n tend_v that_o way_n it_o be_v then_o no_o marvel_n if_o we_o miss_v the_o comfort_n which_o our_o soul_n desire_v when_o we_o be_v in_o any_o anguish_n of_o spirit_n or_o under_o the_o buffet_n of_o satan_n and_o it_o be_v no_o wonder_n if_o we_o be_v sad_a and_o cast_v down_o and_o go_v mourn_a all_o the_o day_n long_o when_o the_o time_n be_v dangerous_a and_o full_a of_o trouble_n and_o we_o can_v hear_v nothing_o but_o complain_v in_o our_o street_n for_o hereby_o we_o have_v no_o support_n for_o our_o faith_n no_o anchor_n for_o our_o hope_n and_o no_o sure_a rock_n to_o rest_v upon_o that_o our_o soul_n may_v be_v true_o comfort_v in_o the_o day_n of_o visitation_n well_o may_v our_o spirit_n drop_v when_o we_o be_v peach_v with_o pain_n or_o sickness_n with_o want_n trouble_n or_o affliction_n if_o we_o â—rust_v only_o to_o earthly_a mean_n and_o comfort_n for_o we_o can_v find_v nothing_o in_o they_o but_o vanity_n and_o vexation_n of_o spirit_n which_o will_v soon_o increase_v our_o sorrow_n than_o comfort_n and_o support_v we_o under_o they_o wherefore_o if_o we_o will_v refresh_v our_o soul_n with_o true_a comfort_n when_o they_o be_v press_v with_o any_o sadness_n or_o sorrow_n we_o must_v fetch_v our_o comfort_n from_o above_o our_o delight_n must_v be_v to_o meditate_v on_o heavenly_a thing_n our_o heart_n and_o affection_n must_v be_v take_v off_o from_o these_o thing_n here_o below_o and_o raise_v up_o to_o contemplate_v those_o thing_n which_o concern_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n christ_n and_o he_o crucify_a must_v be_v the_o subject_n of_o our_o meditation_n if_o we_o will_v have_v any_o spiritual_a consolation_n and_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v the_o only_a mean_n to_o convey_v this_o comfort_n to_o our_o heart_n from_o christ_n for_o he_o do_v work_v all_o sanctify_a grace_n in_o we_o which_o be_v as_o so_o many_o pipe_n wherein_o this_o heavenly_a liquor_n do_v swift_o run_v down_o from_o christ_n to_o we_o and_o faith_n do_v fasten_v these_o golden_a pipe_n unto_o christ_n who_o be_v the_o fountain_n of_o all_o true_a consolation_n our_o repentance_n can_v give_v we_o no_o assurance_n of_o the_o pardon_n of_o our_o sin_n unless_o faith_n do_v fasten_v it_o unto_o christ_n our_o hope_n can_v give_v we_o no_o comfort_n in_o the_o promise_v of_o god_n if_o faith_n do_v not_o fasten_v it_o unto_o christ_n our_o patience_n can_v give_v we_o no_o comfort_n in_o our_o affliction_n and_o tribulation_n except_o faith_n do_v fasten_v it_o unto_o christ_n who_o have_v sanctify_v all_o our_o affliction_n by_o his_o own_o suffering_n thus_o faith_n do_v make_v these_o and_o all_o other_o save_v grace_n effectual_a and_o comfortable_a to_o we_o because_o it_o do_v bring_v they_o home_o unto_o christ_n wherefore_o if_o thou_o have_v any_o care_n of_o thy_o soul_n to_o comfort_v it_o when_o it_o be_v sad_a and_o heavy_a to_o feed_v it_o when_o it_o be_v hungry_a to_o refresh_v it_o when_o it_o be_v thirsty_a ruminate_v well_o upon_o these_o thing_n and_o if_o thou_o have_v any_o holy_a desire_n to_o be_v wean_v from_o the_o love_n of_o this_o world_n and_o to_o be_v familiar_o acquaint_v with_o god_n and_o with_o his_o son_n jesus_n christ_n and_o to_o enjoy_v the_o communion_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n to_o direct_v thou_o in_o the_o way_n to_o eternal_a happiness_n thou_o must_v then_o daily_a exercise_n and_o practice_v this_o holy_a and_o religious_a duty_n of_o zealous_a and_o devout_a meditation_n in_o heavenly_a and_o spiritual_a thing_n finis_fw-la
