subject_a to_o the_o law_n of_o god_n neither_o indeed_o can_v be_v deny_v therefore_o this_o enemy_n the_o power_n of_o judge_v the_o word_n of_o god_n illwill_a never_o say_v well_o enmity_n be_v the_o letter_n he_o do_v not_o mind_n or_o savour_v the_o spirit_n of_o they_o rom._n 8._o 5._o for_o they_o that_o be_v after_o the_o flesh_n do_v mind_n the_o thing_n of_o the_o flesh_n but_o they_o that_o be_v after_o the_o spirit_n the_o thing_n of_o the_o spirit_n a_o fair_a world_n it_o will_v be_v if_o every_o collier_n shall_v judge_v the_o privy_a council_n and_o the_o judge_n of_o the_o land_n or_o if_o every_o thief_n shall_v sit_v upon_o his_o accuser_n and_o his_o judge_n and_o every_o traitor_n shall_v judge_v the_o prince_n and_o a_o thousand-fold_n more_o insufficient_a be_v self_n to_o judge_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o as_o insufficient_a as_o it_o be_v it_o be_v exceed_o arrogant_a and_o step_n up_o into_o the_o judgment-seat_n at_o every_o chapter_n that_o be_v read_v or_o hear_v and_o if_o this_o blind_a and_o malicious_a judge_n be_v unsatisfied_a forsooth_o the_o scripture_n must_v be_v dark_a or_o contradictory_n or_o what_o he_o please_v this_o horrible_a presumptuous_a arrogancy_n of_o self_n be_v it_o that_o have_v open_v so_o many_o mouth_n against_o the_o bless_a doctrine_n of_o salvation_n and_o make_v so_o many_o wretched_a apostate_n in_o the_o world_n and_o cast_v so_o many_o other_o into_o doubt_n of_o that_o word_n by_o which_o at_o last_o they_o must_v be_v judge_v and_o which_o shall_v have_v be_v the_o ground_n of_o their_o faith_n and_o hope_n 4._o moreover_o self_n must_v be_v deny_v as_o it_o stand_v up_o against_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n when_o christ_n be_v present_v in_o his_o wonderful_a condescension_n in_o his_o incarnation_n and_o mean_v despise_v life_n and_o in_o his_o ignominious_a death_n proud_a self_n be_v offend_v at_o so_o low_a a_o saviour_n and_o disdain_v that_o humiliation_n which_o his_o own_o necessity_n do_v require_v and_o despise_v christ_n because_o he_o become_v despise_v and_o a_o man_n of_o sorrow_n in_o our_o stead_n when_o he_o be_v propound_v as_o the_o remedy_n of_o a_o misery_n as_o to_o need_v such_o a_o remedy_n it_o be_v too_o well_o to_o value_v such_o a_o physician_n it_o be_v too_o righteous_a to_o value_v the_o righteousness_n of_o a_o mediator_n it_o have_v too_o much_o life_n and_o hope_n at_o home_n in_o its_o own_o suppose_a innocency_n or_o sufficiency_n to_o set_v much_o by_o the_o hope_n that_o christ_n have_v purchase_v and_o to_o live_v in_o he_o o_o down_o with_o self_n that_o christ_n may_v be_v christ_n to_o you_o how_o shall_v he_o come_v in_o while_o self_n be_v the_o porter_n that_o keep_v the_o door_n how_o shall_v he_o pardon_v you_o when_o self_n will_v not_o suffer_v you_o to_o feel_v the_o want_n and_o worth_a of_o pardon_n how_o shall_v he_o bind_v up_o your_o heart_n when_o self_n will_v not_o suffer_v they_o to_o be_v break_v

everlasting_a life_n and_o glory_n which_o be_v now_o in_o the_o bless_a soul_n with_o christ_n can_v by_o he_o communicate_v a_o perfection_n to_o the_o flesh_n that_o be_v dissolve_v into_o its_o element_n there_o be_v no_o true_a beauty_n but_o that_o which_o be_v there_o receive_v from_o the_o face_n of_o god_n and_o if_o a_o glimpse_n make_v moses_n face_n to_o shine_v what_o glory_n will_v god_n glory_n communicate_v to_o we_o when_o we_o have_v the_o full_a endless_a intuition_n of_o it_o there_o only_o be_v the_o strength_n and_o there_o be_v the_o riches_n and_o there_o be_v the_o expect_v this_o bless_a change_n and_o know_v that_o he_o shall_v never_o till_o then_o be_v perfect_a there_o be_v much_o unreasonableness_n in_o the_o inordinate_a unwillingness_n and_o fear_n of_o death_n 12._o you_o know_v that_o fear_n and_o unwillingness_n can_v do_v no_o good_a but_o much_o increase_v your_o suffering_n and_o make_v your_o death_n a_o double_a death_n if_o it_o be_v land_n and_o meat_n and_o drink_v and_o honour_n and_o all_o thing_n as_o please_v as_o may_v be_v to_o the_o flesh_n and_o then_o they_o complain_v that_o they_o be_v unwilling_a to_o die_v and_o i_o easy_o believe_v he_o it_o be_v no_o wonder_n they_o make_v it_o the_o work_n of_o their_o life_n to_o feather_n their_o nest_n and_o make_v provision_n for_o the_o flesh_n and_o then_o complain_v that_o they_o be_v loath_a to_o leave_v those_o nest_n that_o they_o have_v be_v feather_v so_o long_o and_o loath_a to_o scatter_v all_o the_o heap_n and_o treasure_n which_o they_o have_v be_v gather_v and_o do_v you_o think_v that_o gather_v it_o be_v the_o way_n to_o make_v you_o willing_a to_o leave_v it_o man_n load_v themselves_o with_o the_o lumber_n and_o baggage_n of_o the_o world_n and_o then_o complain_v that_o they_o can_v travel_v on_o their_o journey_n but_o have_v rather_o sit_v down_o they_o fall_v a_o building_n they_o habitation_n in_o their_o way_n when_o they_o shall_v have_v none_o but_o inn_n or_o tent_n and_o when_o they_o have_v bestow_v all_o their_o time_n and_o cost_n and_o charge_n on_o they_o they_o complain_v of_o their_o heart_n for_o be_v loath_a to_o leave_v they_o such_o mad_a do_n as_o these_o be_v not_o the_o way_n to_o be_v willing_a to_o die_v to_o provide_v for_o self_n and_o flesh_n in_o your_o life-time_n be_v not_o the_o way_n to_o deny_v your_o life_n sir_n the_o way_n be_v this_o if_o you_o will_v learn_v it_o and_o stick_v not_o at_o the_o cost_n and_o trouble_v self_n must_v be_v here_o strip_v naked_a of_o all_o its_o carnal_a comfort_n so_o that_o it_o shall_v have_v nothing_o leave_v o_o fly_v to_o or_o trust_v upon_o nor_o nothing_o lest_o tâ—at_v it_o can_v take_v delight_n in_o &_o then_o it_o will_v away_o if_o you_o will_v drive_v ouâ—â—n_o ill_a tenant_n you_o will_v cast_v out_o all_o their_o good_n and_o leave_v they_o nothing_o but_o the_o bare_a wall_n and_o not_o so_o much_o as_o a_o bed_n to_o lie_v on_o from_o its_o subordination_n to_o god_n and_o then_o there_o will_v be_v nothing_o to_o rise_v up_o against_o your_o submission_n to_o death_n though_o nature_n as_o nature_n will_v keep_v you_o from_o love_a death_n as_o death_n yet_o be_v but_o self-denial_n perfect_a there_o will_v be_v nothing_o to_o keep_v you_o from_o submit_v to_o it_o and_o desire_v to_o pass_v through_o it_o to_o to_o be_v with_o god_n direct_v 5._o and_o by_o such_o mean_n as_o this_o aforesaid_a labour_v to_o bring_v up_o your_o soul_n to_o live_v in_o the_o love_n of_o god_n it_o be_v love_n that_o be_v the_o divine_a and_o heavenly_a nature_n in_o we_o and_o therefore_o must_v needs_o incline_v we_o heavenward_n the_o nature_n of_o love_n be_v to_o long_o after_o communion_n with_o he_o that_o we_o name_n of_o self-denial_n among_o many_o of_o these_o sort_n of_o mistake_a person_n chap._n li._n q._n whether_o self-denial_n lie_v in_o renounce_v propriety_n quest_n 1._o whither_o do_v self-denial_n require_v we_o to_o renounce_v propriety_n and_o to_o know_v nothing_o as_o our_o own_o as_o the_o monk_n among_o the_o papist_n swear_v to_o do_v as_o part_v of_o their_o state_n of_o perfection_n &_o a_o book_n call_v the_o way_n to_o the_o sabbath_n of_o rest_n dothteach_v we_o answ_n 1._o that_o there_o shall_v be_v no_o propriety_n in_o good_n or_o estate_n among_o man_n be_v contrary_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n who_o have_v make_v man_n his_o steward_n and_o trust_v several_a person_n with_o several_a talent_n and_o forbid_a steal_v and_o command_v man_n to_o labour_v that_o they_o may_v have_v to_o give_v to_o he_o that_o need_v and_o he_o that_o have_v this_o world_n good_n and_o see_v his_o brother_n have_v need_n must_v not_o shut_v up_o the_o bowel_n of_o his_o compassion_n it_o be_v a_o stand_a duty_n to_o give_v to_o the_o poor_a and_o we_o shall_v therefore_o have_v the_o poor_a always_o with_o we_o for_o this_o exercise_n of_o our_o charity_n and_o he_o that_o have_v nothing_o can_v give_v nothing_o nor_o use_v it_o for_o god_n why_o do_v paul_n require_v they_o to_o give_v to_o the_o distress_a saint_n and_o maintain_v the_o ministry_n and_o gather_v for_o such_o use_v every_o first_o day_n of_o the_o week_n if_o he_o will_v have_v man_n have_v nothing_o to_o give_v this_o therefore_o be_v a_o conceit_n that_o need_v nothing_o but_o much_o as_o our_o work_n of_o charity_n be_v rewardable_a though_o it_o be_v but_o give_v a_o cup_n of_o cold_a water_n which_o can_v not_o be_v without_o propriety_n for_o who_o will_v reward_v he_o that_o give_v that_o which_o be_v none_o of_o his_o own_o yea_o it_o be_v make_v the_o matter_n of_o the_o last_o judgement_n i_o be_v hungry_a and_o you_o feed_v i_o i_o be_v naked_a and_o you_o clothe_v i_o etc._n etc._n which_o they_o can_v not_o have_v do_v if_o they_o have_v not_o have_v food_n and_o clothing_n to_o bestow_v so_o that_o the_o denial_n of_o propriety_n will_v destroy_v all_o exercise_n of_o charity_n in_o such_o kind_n and_o destroy_v all_o society_n and_o orderly_a converse_n and_o industry_n in_o the_o world_n but_o yet_o when_o god_n call_v for_o any_o thing_n from_o we_o we_o must_v present_o obey_v and_o quit_v all_o title_n to_o it_o and_o resign_v it_o free_o and_o glad_o to_o his_o will_n and_o 3._o there_o must_v be_v so_o much_o vigour_n of_o charity_n and_o sense_n of_o our_o neighbour_n want_n as_o that_o no_o man_n must_v shut_v up_o the_o bowel_n of_o compassion_n but_o as_o we_o must_v love_v our_o neighbour_n as_o ourselves_o so_o must_v we_o relieve_v they_o as_o a_o second_o self_n yea_o and_o before_o ourselves_o if_o god_n service_n or_o honour_n shall_v require_v it_o if_o we_o must_v lay_v down_o our_o life_n for_o the_o
