omit_v that_o in_o the_o most_o of_o these_o thing_n it_o be_v not_o proper_o the_o sense_n itself_o but_o the_o outward_a instrument_n of_o sense_n only_o that_o be_v offend_v or_o hurt_v but_o let_v we_o see_v if_o there_o be_v the_o like_a in_o our_o reasonable_a soul_n nay_o contrariwise_o the_o more_o of_o understanding_n and_o excellency_n that_o the_o thing_n be_v the_o more_o do_v it_o by_o window_n behold_v the_o world_n and_o yet_o in_o all_o the_o world_n find_v not_o any_o one_o thing_n worthy_a to_o rest_v whole_o upon_o mount_v up_o to_o he_o that_o make_v it_o which_o mind_n like_o a_o empress_n lodge_v in_o the_o whole_a world_n and_o not_o alone_o in_o this_o body_n which_o by_o the_o sense_n and_o oftentimes_o also_o without_o the_o sense_n mount_v above_o the_o sense_n and_o streyn_v itself_o to_o go_v out_o of_o itself_o as_o a_o child_n do_v to_o get_v out_o of_o his_o mother_n womb_n and_o therefore_o we_o ought_v sure_o to_o say_v that_o this_o mind_n or_o reason_n ought_v not_o to_o be_v ever_o in_o prison_n that_o one_o day_n it_o shall_v see_v clear_o and_o not_o by_o these_o dim_a and_o cloudy_a spectacle_n that_o it_o shall_v come_v in_o place_n where_o it_o shall_v have_v the_o true_a object_n of_o understanding_n and_o that_o he_o shall_v have_v his_o life_n free_a from_o these_o fetters_o and_o from_o all_o the_o affection_n of_o the_o poor_a skin_n that_o he_o be_v wrap_v in_o as_o we_o have_v hindrance_n in_o our_o sense_n and_o in_o our_o imprison_a reason_n when_o we_o be_v at_o the_o point_n to_o leave_v the_o good_n and_o pleasure_n of_o this_o world_n and_o the_o very_a flesh_n itself_o which_o hold_v we_o as_o in_o a_o grave_n or_o have_v the_o babe_n some_o little_a knowledge_n will_v he_o not_o say_v that_o no_o life_n be_v comparable_a to_o the_o life_n where_o he_o than_o be_v as_o we_o say_v there_o be_v no_o life_n to_o the_o life_n of_o this_o world_n wherein_o we_o be_v or_o will_v he_o not_o account_v the_o stage_n of_o our_o sense_n for_o a_o fable_n as_o a_o great_a sort_n of_o we_o account_v the_o stage_n that_o be_v prepare_v for_o our_o soul_n yes_o sure_o and_o therefore_o let_v we_o conclude_v where_o we_o begin_v namely_o that_o man_n be_v both_o inward_a and_o outward_a in_o the_o outward_a man_n which_o be_v the_o body_n he_o resemble_v the_o be_v and_o the_o proportion_n of_o all_o the_o part_n of_o the_o world_n and_o in_o the_o inner_a man_n he_o resemble_v whatsoever_o kind_n of_o life_n be_v in_o all_o thing_n or_o in_o any_o thing_n that_o bear_v life_n in_o shall_v not_o be_v so_o witty_a to_o examine_v the_o immortality_n as_o we_o be_v for_o of_o contrary_n the_o skill_n be_v all_o one_o if_o a_o man_n be_v not_o mortal_a that_o be_v to_o say_v if_o he_o have_v no_o life_n he_o can_v not_o dispute_v of_o the_o mortal_a life_n neither_o can_v he_o speak_v of_o the_o immortal_a if_o he_o himself_o also_o be_v not_o immortal_a therefore_o let_v we_o go_v back_o retrieve_v some_o man_n will_v say_v that_o the_o soul_n die_v with_o the_o body_n because_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o body_n be_v but_o one_o thing_n and_o he_o believe_v that_o they_o itself_o it_o hurt_v and_o diminish_v the_o part_n that_o quicken_v also_o it_o stand_v in_o argument_n against_o the_o sense_n and_o reprove_v they_o of_o falsehood_n and_o conclude_v contrary_a to_o their_o information_n and_o it_o may_v be_v that_o the_o man_n which_o have_v his_o digestion_n perfect_a and_o his_o sense_n sound_a have_v not_o his_o wit_n or_o reason_n sound_n in_o like_o case_n now_o be_v the_o soul_n but_o only_o one_o ability_n it_o can_v not_o be_v so_o but_o now_o be_v the_o same_o divide_v manifest_o into_o wit_n or_o understanding_n and_o will_v the_o one_o serve_v to_o devise_v and_o the_o other_o to_o execute_v for_o we_o understand_v divers_a thing_n which_o we_o will_v not_o and_o we_o will_v divers_a thing_n which_o we_o understand_v not_o which_o contrary_a operation_n can_v be_v attribute_v both_o to_o one_o power_n nevertheless_o the_o unite_n of_o all_o these_o power_n together_o be_v with_o such_o distinctness_n and_o the_o distinguish_n of_o they_o be_v with_o such_o union_n that_o ordinary_o they_o meet_v altogether_o in_o one selfsame_a action_n the_o one_o of_o they_o as_o ready_o by_o all_o likelihood_n as_o the_o other_o howbeit_o that_o every_o of_o they_o do_v his_o own_o work_n several_o by_o himself_o and_o one_o afore_o another_o as_o in_o respect_n of_o their_o object_n thus_o have_v we_o three_o sort_n of_o to_o make_v it_o a_o bondslave_n to_o his_o sense_n and_o the_o pleasure_n and_o delight_n thereof_o and_o the_o reasonable_a man_n who_o live_v proper_o in_o spirit_n and_o mind_n who_o enter_v into_o himself_o to_o know_v himself_o and_o go_v out_o of_o himself_o to_o behold_v god_n make_v this_o life_n to_o serve_v to_o the_o attainment_n of_o a_o better_a and_o use_v his_o sense_n but_o as_o instrument_n and_o servant_n of_o his_o reason_n after_o as_o any_o of_o these_o three_o power_n do_v reign_v and_o bear_v sway_n in_o man_n that_o be_v to_o wit_n after_o as_o a_o man_n yield_v himself_o more_o to_o one_o than_o to_o another_o of_o they_o so_o become_v he_o like_o unto_o the_o spirit_n the_o brute_n beast_n or_o plant_n yea_o and_o the_o very_a block_n and_o stone_n but_o it_o be_v our_o disposition_n even_o by_o kind_n to_o be_v carry_v away_o by_o our_o corrupt_a nature_n and_o by_o the_o object_n which_o hem_v we_o in_o on_o all_o side_n but_o as_o for_o against_o our_o nature_n yea_o or_o beyond_o our_o nature_n our_o nature_n be_v not_o able_a to_o do_v any_o thing_n at_o all_o now_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o for_o we_o to_o know_v that_o we_o have_v a_o soul_n whereby_o we_o live_v feel_v and_o understand_v and_o which_o be_v but_o one_o have_v in_o itself_o alone_o so_o many_o sundry_a power_n or_o ability_n for_o it_o will_v be_v demand_v of_o we_o by_o and_o by_o what_o this_o soul_n proper_o be_v and_o sooth_o if_o i_o shall_v say_v i_o can_v tell_v what_o it_o be_v i_o shall_v not_o belie_v myself_o a_o whit_n for_o i_o shall_v but_o assay_v to_o satisfy_v such_o demand_n as_o well_o as_o we_o can_v and_o for_o as_o much_o as_o it_o be_v the_o image_n of_o god_n not_o only_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o government_n and_o maintenance_n of_o the_o whole_a world_n but_o also_o even_o in_o the_o very_a nature_n thereof_o as_o we_o say_v heretofore_o when_o we_o speak_v of_o the_o nature_n of_o god_n if_o we_o can_v express_v or_o conceive_v what_o it_o be_v let_v we_o at_o leastwise_o be_v certify_v what_o it_o be_v not_o first_o of_o all_o thing_n that_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o body_n be_v not_o both_o one_o thing_n but_o two_o very_o far_o differ_v thing_n and_o also_o that_o the_o soul_n be_v no_o part_n of_o the_o body_n it_o appear_v of_o itself_o without_o further_a proof_n for_o if_o the_o soul_n be_v the_o body_n or_o a_o part_n of_o the_o body_n it_o shall_v grow_v with_o the_o body_n as_o the_o other_o part_n of_o the_o body_n do_v and_o the_o great_a that_o the_o body_n be_v the_o great_a also_o shall_v the_o soul_n be_v nay_o contrary_a wise_a the_o body_n increase_v to_o a_o certain_a age_n and_o then_o stay_v after_o which_o age_n be_v common_o the_o time_n that_o the_o soul_n do_v most_o grow_v and_o those_o that_o be_v strong_a of_o mind_n be_v common_o weak_a of_o body_n and_o the_o soul_n be_v see_v to_o be_v full_a of_o liveliness_n in_o a_o languish_a body_n and_o to_o grow_v the_o more_o in_o force_n by_o the_o decay_n of_o the_o body_n the_o soul_n then_o grow_v not_o with_o the_o body_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o the_o body_n nor_o any_o part_n of_o the_o body_n and_o whereas_o i_o speak_v of_o grow_v in_o the_o soul_n by_o grow_v i_o mean_v the_o profit_v thereof_o in_o power_n and_o virtue_n as_o the_o
body_n grow_v in_o greatness_n by_o further_a enlarge_n again_o if_o the_o soul_n be_v the_o body_n it_o shall_v lose_v her_o strength_n and_o soundness_n with_o the_o body_n so_o as_o the_o maim_a in_o body_n shall_v therewith_o feel_v also_o a_o maim_n in_o his_o understanding_n as_o well_o as_o in_o his_o member_n whosoever_o be_v sick_a of_o any_o disease_n shall_v also_o be_v sick_a in_o his_o reason_n he_o that_o limp_v or_o halt_v shall_v therewith_o halt_v in_o soul_n also_o the_o blind_a man_n soul_n shall_v be_v blind_a and_o the_o lame_a man_n soul_n shall_v be_v lame_a but_o we_o see_v contrariwise_o that_o the_o maim_a and_o the_o sick_a the_o cripple_n and_o the_o blind_a have_v their_o soul_n whole_a and_o sound_a and_o their_o understanding_n perfect_a and_o clear-sighted_a in_o itself_o to_o be_v short_a many_o a_o man_n die_v who_o body_n be_v sound_a and_o differ_v not_o a_o whit_n in_o any_o part_n from_o that_o it_o be_v when_o it_o be_v alive_a month_n old_a can_v do_v but_o he_o shall_v consider_v also_o that_o if_o the_o selfsame_a man_n or_o the_o selfsame_a child_n shall_v have_v a_o mischance_n in_o his_o leg_n or_o in_o his_o arm_n he_o shall_v thereby_o forgo_v the_o strength_n and_o move_v thereof_o whereas_o yet_o notwithstanding_o his_o soul_n shall_v have_v her_o former_a force_n and_o power_n still_o to_o move_v the_o instrument_n which_o be_v unable_a to_o execute_v the_o operation_n thereof_o like_v as_o the_o cunning_a of_o a_o luteplayer_n be_v not_o diminish_v by_o the_o moistness_n or_o slackness_n of_o the_o lutestring_n nor_o increase_v by_o the_o over_o high_a strain_n and_o tight_a stand_n of_o they_o but_o indeed_o in_o the_o one_o he_o can_v show_v his_o cunning_n at_o all_o and_o in_o the_o other_o scan_n whether_o the_o soul_n be_v a_o substance_n or_o a_o quality_n for_o see_v that_o quality_n have_v no_o be_v but_o in_o another_o thing_n than_o themselves_o the_o life_n which_o cause_v another_o thing_n to_o be_v can_v be_v a_o quality_n forasmuch_o then_o as_o the_o soul_n make_v a_o man_n to_o be_v a_o man_n who_o otherwise_o shall_v be_v but_o a_o carcase_n or_o carrion_n doubtless_o unless_o we_o will_v say_v that_o the_o only_a difference_n which_o be_v betwixt_o a_o man_n and_o a_o dead_a carcase_n be_v but_o in_o accident_n we_o must_v needs_o grant_v that_o the_o
