how_o and_o in_o what_o manner_n we_o ought_v to_o pray_v none_o be_v to_o imagine_v we_o be_v bind_v to_o use_v these_o word_n and_o none_o other_o for_o the_o meaning_n of_o christ_n be_v not_o to_o be_v good_a for_o the_o bee_n and_o what_o be_v good_a for_o the_o bee_n be_v good_a for_o the_o beehive_n yet_o we_o conceive_v when_o a_o disciple_n come_v before_o god_n he_o spread_v before_o he_o his_o peculiar_a case_n and_o say_v not_o our_o father_n but_o my_o father_n not_o other_o case_n but_o his_o own_o this_o we_o conceive_v relate_v to_o the_o church_n in_o general_a but_o a_o disciple_n prayer_n relate_v to_o himself_o in_o special_a and_o his_o own_o concernment_n though_o he_o can_v no_o more_o forget_v the_o church_n of_o christ_n than_o he_o can_v to_o eat_v his_o bread_n or_o his_o right_a hand_n forget_v its_o cunning_n sect_n ii_o again_o our_o thought_n be_v that_o the_o scope_n and_o intendment_n of_o this_o prayer_n be_v main_o to_o be_v look_v after_o and_o tell_v the_o disciple_n what_o he_o be_v main_o to_o tend_v unto_o and_o bend_v against_o be_v his_o prayer_n long_o or_o never_o so_o short_a viz_o the_o hallow_v the_o great_a and_o glorious_a name_n of_o god_n in_o the_o lay_n himself_o out_o to_o the_o utmost_a for_o the_o advancement_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n in_o his_o own_o heart_n his_o interest_n there_o and_o through_o the_o world_n and_o the_o throw_v down_o the_o kingdom_n of_o sin_n and_o satan_n there_o and_o here_o and_o every_o where_n this_o we_o conceive_v be_v our_o lord_n main_a scope_n in_o prescribe_v his_o disciple_n this_o prayer_n and_o this_o must_v be_v the_o disciple_n scope_n in_o the_o mould_v their_o petition_n thereafter_o sect_n iii_o we_o can_v conceive_v that_o this_o prayer_n shall_v be_v put_v into_o the_o disciple_n mouth_n to_o say_v it_o in_o those_o word_n and_o yet_o they_o never_o say_v it_o so_o far_o as_o we_o can_v hear_v not_o one_o of_o the_o apostle_n nor_o disciple_n in_o those_o day_n yet_o we_o meet_v with_o many_o of_o their_o prayer_n nor_o any_o of_o the_o bless_a martyr_n that_o we_o read_v of_o and_o we_o have_v read_v some_o volume_n of_o they_o sect_n iv_o and_o last_o the_o height_n and_o depth_n length_n and_o breadth_n of_o the_o content_n in_o this_o prayer_n which_o we_o think_v the_o understanding_n of_o a_o angel_n can_v comprehend_v make_v we_o believe_v that_o the_o lord_n intend_v not_o that_o his_o disciple_n shall_v huddle_n it-up_a as_o he_o read_v it_o nor_o can_v we_o think_v that_o any_o true_a disciple_n in_o the_o world_n run_v we_o upon_o a_o thousand_o inconvenience_n but_o if_o any_o duty_n then_o that_o of_o prayer_n calls-up_a all_o our_o affection_n it_o call_v for_o a_o work_n of_o the_o understanding_n also_o now_o we_o think_v no_o godly_a man_n understanding_n though_o his_o only_a be_v open_v renew_v and_o sanctify_a be_v able_a to_o go_v along_o with_o this_o manner_n of_o say_v it_o as_o he_o read_v what_o he_o meet_v with_o in_o the_o first_o chapter_n second_o and_o three_o section_n and_o in_o the_o second_o chapter_n special_o the_o four_o paragraph_n there_o together_o with_o the_o first_o paragraph_n in_o the_o chapter_n follow_v which_o we_o think_v refer_v much_o to_o that_o which_o precede_v as_o to_o that_o which_o follow_v chap._n vi_o q._n 3._o q._n iii_o whether_o a_o godly_a person_n he_o or_o she_o bring_v this_o prayer_n into_o the_o closet_n with_o they_o there_o and_o then_o humble_v themselves_o before_o their_o god_n we_o tell_v you_o we_o maintain_v the_o therefore_o the_o rather_o it_o may_v be_v use_v as_o a_o prayer_n but_o this_o make_v no_o proof_n nor_o do_v the_o word_n follow_v that_o sure_o it_o be_v ancient_a and_o worthy_a divine_n have_v be_v not_o to_o be_v use_v as_o a_o prayer_n for_o if_o we_o use_v the_o pattern_n for_o our_o prayer_n we_o shall_v never_o pray_v according_a 2._o 1_o john_n 3._o 2._o to_o the_o pattern_n as_o the_o disciple_n do_v not_o stint_v themselves_o with_o any_o degree_n of_o holiness_n god_n own_o purity_n be_v their_o copy_n so_o neither_o can_v they_o stint_v themselves_o in_o prayer_n the_o lord_n own_o prayer_n be_v their_o pattern_n we_o proceed_v sect_n ii_o we_o think_v it_o clean_o beside_o the_o scope_n and_o intendment_n of_o our_o bless_a saviour_n in_o give_v his_o disciple_n this_o prayer_n if_o they_o shall_v plead_v their_o case_n with_o he_o in_o those_o very_a word_n now_o in_o this_o case_n we_o can_v reach_v our_o lord_n mind_n nor_o eye_n his_o scope_n but_o by_o observe_v what_o he_o do_v
they_o will_v for_o necessity_n they_o say_v have_v no_o law_n be_v so_o bold_a or_o impudent_a rather_o to_o use_v that_o prayer_n also_o be_v the_o most_o exact_a form_n of_o all_o form_n but_o these_o never_o be_v and_o never_o shall_v be_v so_o forsake_v of_o their_o god_n and_o in_o assure_a confidence_n thereof_o we_o proceed_v three_o this_o we_o have_v hear_v some_o one_o of_o we_o at_o least_o allege_v for_o the_o say_n of_o this_o prayer_n there_o be_v a_o sickness_n upon_o all_o the_o faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o memory_n amid_o the_o rest_n be_v a_o very_a sickly_a weak_a and_o infirm_a thing_n so_o as_o we_o manytime_n forget_v to_o put_v up_o those_o request_n unto_o god_n which_o be_v in_o the_o purpose_n of_o our_o heart_n to_o do_v now_o to_o help_v and_o succour_v we_o in_o this_o matter_n we_o adjoine_v the_o lord_n prayer_n to_o the_o end_n of_o we_o that_o be_v complete_a as_o we_o all_o know_v in_o the_o whole_a and_o in_o every_o part_n and_o contain_v in_o it_o as_o the_o creed_n all_o thing_n to_o be_v believe_v so_o this_o all_o thing_n to_o be_v desire_v to_o this_o we_o reply_v grant_v this_o first_o that_o this_o sickness_n be_v epidemical_a universal_o spread_v over_o all_o man_n and_o over_o all_o in_o man_n and_o the_o memory_n the_o soul_n be_v store-house_n be_v fearful_o taint_v with_o it_o most_o unhappy_o and_o tenacious_o retentive_a of_o all_o that_o be_v evil_a so_o as_o what_o be_v but_o once_o hear_v see_v or_o do_v give_v pleasure_n to_o the_o flesh_n will_v be_v keep_v in_o the_o memory_n and_o repeat_v there_o who_o know_v how_o long_o and_o how_o often_o yet_o take-it-in_a by_o the_o way_n as_o often_o as_o any_o evil_n see_v hear_v or_o do_v be_v remember_v with_o delight_n so_o often_o be_v it_o act_v over_o again_o but_o now_o when_o any_o thing_n true_o good_a be_v commend_v to_o it_o and_o received-in_a of_o how_o short_a continuance_n it_o be_v there_o if_o a_o hand_n allmighty_n lodge_v it_o not_o there_o and_o keep_v it_o there_o the_o memory_n of_o itself_o and_o in_o its_o own_o nature_n be_v a_o very_a stepdame_n to_o good_a or_o like_o a_o very_a tho_o we_o hope_v we_o cry_v for_o his_o eyesalve_n which_o only_o make_v to_o see_v how_o the_o sickness_n of_o the_o memory_n cause_v the_o pray_a man_n to_o forget_v what_o he_o will_v have_v remember_v and_o make_v his_o request_n to_o god_n for_o can_v be_v help_v for_o to_o this_o particular_a we_o speak_v by_o adjoin_v his_o lord_n prayer_n we_o crave_v leave_v to_o ask_v this_o godly_a minister_n what_o he_o have_v forget_v to_o petition_v his_o god_n in_o behalf_n of_o the_o people_n to_o who_o he_o be_v make_v a_o overseer_n he_o have_v not_o confess_v their_o sin_n so_o full_o nor_o so_o feel_o as_o he_o shall_v and_o think_v to_o have_v do_v this_o may_v be_v he_o know_v full_a well_o some_o special_a mercy_n his_o people_n have_v receive_v from_o god_n and_o he_o quite_o forget_v to_o render_v god_n the_o praise_n he_o know_v as_o well_o some_o special_a mercy_n his_o people_n have_v not_o and_o yet_o feel_v not_o any_o want_n of_o they_o as_o a_o see_a eye_n and_o hear_v ear_n but_o he_o quite_o forget_v here_o also_o he_o be_v well_o acquaint_v with_o some_o particular_a misery_n that_o be_v feel_v by_o some_o one_o or_o more_o of_o his_o people_n be_v sickness_n and_o sorrow_n upon_o the_o flesh_n and_o another_o misery_n he_o may_v know_v of_o also_o which_o be_v the_o misery_n of_o all_o misery_n because_o not_o feel_v nor_o fear_v yet_o clap_v fast_o upon_o they_o perverseness_n of_o spirit_n and_o hardness_n of_o heart_n here_o the_o godly_a man_n memory_n may_v falâ—e_v he_o also_o in_o all_o these_o he_o may_v not_o petition_v god_n as_o god_n in_o the_o name_n of_o jesus_n christ_n through_o he_o by_o the_o spirit_n he_o have_v a_o access_n unto_o the_o father_n 2._o eph._n 2._o and_o oh_o what_o a_o deal_n of_o eloquence_n and_o rhetoric_n be_v in_o this_o one_o word_n father_n how_o it_o work_v upon_o the_o bowel_n of_o the_o father_n upon_o the_o bowel_n of_o the_o child_n too_o so_o as_o the_o child_n can_v choose_v but_o crave_v the_o father_n can_v choose_v but_o grant_v what_o ever_o be_v good_a for_o the_o child_n there_o be_v a_o reciprocal_a work_n still_o a_o reflex_v act_n of_o the_o soul_n the_o father_n bowel_n yearn_v towards_o the_o child_n the_o child_n bowel_n yearn_v towards_o the_o father_n but_o we_o recall_v ourselves_o be_v to_o deliver_v our_o thought_n what_o a_o godly_a minister_n do_v when_o he_o have_v enter_v the_o pulpit_n sure_o in_o desire_n and_o endeavour_v he_o come_v whole_o off_o from_o himself_o he_o use_v all_o that_o ged_a have_v give_v he_o and_o lay_v out_o the_o very_a male_n of_o his_o flock_n for_o that_o very_a end_n give_v he_o but_o he_o trust_v it_o not_o he_o have_v no_o confidence_n in_o the_o flesh_n it_o be_v full_o and_o whole_o set_v upon_o his_o god_n he_o love_v to_o be_v trust_v and_o can_v be_v trust_v too_o much_o as_o the_o creature_n can_v be_v trust_v too_o little_a in_o a_o word_n he_o roll_n himself_o upon_o god_n putt_v himself_o as_o he_o can_v into_o the_o good_a spirit_n hand_n leave_v his_o matter_n there_o humble_o expect_v supply_n from_o he_o he_o be_v in_o the_o place_n where_o he_o shall_v be_v unto_o which_o his_o god_n have_v call_v he_o upon_o his_o work_n which_o he_o do_v with_o more_o delight_n than_o to_o receive_v his_o wage_n now_o he_o will_v not_o doubt_v but_o that_o the_o good_a spirit_n to_o who_o sickness_n of_o his_o memory_n and_o many_o other_o his_o infirmity_n who_o know_v how_o many_o yet_o he_o know_v who_o he_o have_v trust_v and_o upon_o who_o score_n and_o that_o he_o be_v able_a to_o lead_v he_o unto_o his_o work_n and_o to_o carry_v he_o through_o his_o work_n nor_o dare_v he_o for_o his_o life_n take_v a_o dead_a letter_n *_o *_o such_o a_o thing_n be_v the_o lord_n prayer_n as_o utter_v by_o man_n as_o dead_a as_o other_o letter_n he_o read_v in_o the_o same_o chapter_n he_o will_v not_o we_o be_v say_v take_v a_o dead_a letter_n to_o help_v the_o live_a spirit_n these_o be_v our_o thought_n of_o this_o matter_n four_o we_o have_v hear_v in_o the_o last_o place_n this_o allege_a for_o the_o say_n the_o lord_n prayer_n at_o the_o end_n of_o their_o own_o prayer_n our_o prayer_n be_v very_o imperfect_a we_o all_o know_v and_o god_n may_v neglect_v they_o therefore_o we_o add_v the_o lord_n prayer_n to_o the_o end_n of_o we_o that_o perfect_a and_o complete_a prayer_n which_o the_o father_n will_v not_o neglect_v we_o reply_v grant_v as_o before_o
he_o will_v not_o do_v in_o good_a thing_n that_o do_v he_o the_o godly_a man_n sometime_o do_v the_o command_n of_o the_o flesh_n which_o be_v most_o contrary_a to_o the_o command_v of_o christ_n but_o what_o he_o hate_v that_o do_v he_o this_o be_v the_o point_n and_o so_o we_o have_v do_v a_o brutish_a pastor_n and_o a_o brutish_a people_n be_v so_o far_o from_o do_v the_o command_n of_o christ_n that_o they_o hate_v to_o do_v it_o with_o their_o whole_a heart_n and_o with_o their_o whole_a soul_n and_o it_o be_v absurd_a to_o say_v or_o think_v the_o contrary_n when_o you_o pray_v
