talis_fw-la and_o be_o not_o i_o such_o a_o one_o have_v not_o i_o that_o evil_a in_o my_o heart_n so_o it_o be_v report_v of_o bradford_n that_o when_o he_o see_v other_o commit_v sin_n he_o will_v fall_v a_o weep_a and_o a_o lament_a because_o he_o be_v afraid_a that_o there_o be_v that_o evil_n in_o himself_o that_o he_o see_v in_o other_o though_o it_o do_v not_o break_v forth_o a_o humble_a heart_n when_o it_o hear_v the_o threaten_n of_o the_o word_n against_o any_o sin_n it_o begin_v to_o think_v thus_o and_o do_v not_o this_o belong_v to_o i_o i_o be_o afraid_a that_o it_o may_v belong_v to_o i_o as_o well_o as_o to_o any_o other_o very_o suspicious_a and_o jealous_a of_o itself_o that_o be_v the_o first_o 2._o a_o humble_a heart_n be_v unfeigned_o willing_a to_o know_v the_o worst_a of_o itself_o and_o therefore_o it_o make_v much_o of_o any_o truth_n that_o come_v the_o near_a to_o its_o heart_n and_o that_o discover_v itself_o unto_o itself_o it_o be_v glad_a of_o those_o truth_n when_o there_o be_v a_o truth_n come_v home_o to_o it_o to_o discover_v any_o evil_n that_o it_o do_v not_o see_v before_o it_o be_v glad_a of_o those_o truth_n and_o bless_v god_n that_o it_o come_v to_o know_v any_o thing_n of_o itself_o more_o than_o former_o whereas_o a_o proud_a heart_n will_v rather_o vex_v when_o any_o truth_n come_v to_o discover_v any_o evil_n that_o it_o do_v not_o see_v before_o as_o some_o be_v deform_v be_v not_o willing_a to_o have_v a_o glass_n to_o present_v their_o true_a image_n to_o they_o but_o a_o humble_a heart_n cry_v to_o god_n lord_n try_v i_o lord_z discover_z to_o i_o what_o evil_n be_v in_o my_o heart_n and_o a_o humble_a heart_n love_v that_o company_n that_o will_v help_v it_o to_o see_v what_o evil_n there_o be_v in_o itself_o or_o any_o way_n may_v discover_v what_o evil_n there_o be_v in_o it_o and_o it_o will_v be_v meditate_v upon_o those_o thing_n that_o may_v further_o discover_v itself_o unfeigned_o wait_v to_o know_v the_o worst_a of_o itself_o for_o want_n of_o this_o many_o a_o soul_n go_v on_o in_o a_o unsound_a false_a way_n and_o miscarry_v to_o all_o eternity_n because_o it_o be_v not_o willing_a to_o know_v the_o worst_a of_o itself_o that_o be_v the_o second_o 3._o a_o humble_a spirit_n do_v often_o look_v back_o to_o its_o poor_a beginning_n it_o love_v to_o do_v it_o one_o that_o be_v lowly_a in_o heart_n do_v love_n to_o be_v often_o look_v back_o to_o its_o poor_a beginning_n what_o once_o he_o be_v if_o god_n have_v make_v a_o alteration_n in_o my_o condition_n let_v i_o consider_v what_o once_o i_o be_v what_o a_o vile_a wretch_n once_o i_o be_v love_v to_o be_v often_o meditate_v upon_o that_o and_o so_o to_o be_v work_v upon_o itself_o to_o humble_v its_o own_o heart_n with_o such_o thought_n as_o those_o be_v oh_o what_o a_o poor_a condition_n be_v i_o not_o long_o since_o in_o both_o in_o regard_n of_o my_o outward_a condition_n and_o my_o inward_a spiritual_a condition_n a_o humble_a heart_n be_v not_o unwilling_a to_o be_v put_v in_o mind_n of_o both_o if_o god_n have_v raise_v he_o from_o the_o dunghill_n to_o a_o high_a condition_n he_o put_v himself_o in_o mind_n of_o what_o he_o be_v once_o be_v not_o willing_a to_o have_v the_o record_n of_o his_o own_o parentage_n to_o be_v raze_v out_o but_o be_v willing_a to_o have_v it_o in_o gen._n 32._o 10._o i_o be_o not_o worthy_a of_o the_o least_o of_o all_o the_o mercy_n and_o of_o all_o the_o truth_n which_o thou_o have_v show_v unto_o thy_o servant_n for_o with_o my_o staff_n the_o eye_n of_o those_o that_o be_v contrary_a to_o it_o a_o proud_a man_n if_o he_o see_v one_o humble_a be_v mighty_o convince_v of_o the_o excellency_n of_o it_o those_o be_v the_o christian_n unto_o god_n and_o therefore_o a_o great_a excellency_n appear_v in_o this_o grace_n of_o humility_n six_o and_o then_o humility_n it_o be_v a_o main_a ingredient_n to_o the_o prevalency_n in_o prayer_n god_n have_v a_o special_a eye_n to_o the_o humility_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o seek_v of_o he_o in_o prayer_n i_o may_v give_v you_o divers_a scripture_n for_o that_o in_o 2_o chron._n 7._o 14._o if_o my_o people_n which_o be_v call_v by_o my_o name_n shall_v humble_v themselves_o and_o seek_v my_o face_n and_o pray_v i_o will_v hear_v they_o say_v god_n and_o so_o again_o in_o psal_n 9_o 12._o he_o forget_v not_o the_o cry_n of_o the_o humble_a if_o a_o humble_a man_n cry_v oh_o it_o take_v deep_a impression_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o god_n it_o will_v not_o go_v â—ut_v of_o his_o mind_n for_o a_o long_a time_n together_o as_o you_o know_v some_o thing_n that_o be_v speak_v that_o take_v the_o heart_n be_v not_o easy_o forget_v as_o when_o you_o come_v to_o a_o sermon_n if_o you_o hear_v something_o that_o be_v speak_v that_o take_v the_o heart_n it_o will_v abide_v with_o you_o it_o will_v not_o easy_o be_v forget_v so_o here_o he_o will_v not_o forget_v the_o cry_n of_o the_o humble_a as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v oh_o the_o cry_n of_o the_o humble_a do_v so_o take_v my_o heart_n that_o i_o can_v forget_v it_o it_o may_v be_v sometime_o when_o you_o go_v abroad_o and_o hear_v the_o cry_n of_o some_o miserable_a people_n you_o can_v forget_v it_o you_o say_v o_o i_o think_v in_o the_o night_n and_o whatever_o i_o be_o about_o i_o hear_v the_o cry_n of_o such_o a_o one_o there_o be_v the_o cry_n of_o such_o a_o poor_a creature_n in_o my_o ear_n so_o say_v god_n whatever_o i_o be_o about_o i_o think_v the_o cry_n of_o the_o humble_a be_v in_o my_o ear_n i_o can_v forget_v it_o and_o therefore_o say_v the_o psalmist_n in_o psal_n 10._o 12._o arise_v o_o lord_n o_o god_n lift_v up_o thy_o hand_n forget_v not_o the_o humble_a he_o do_v not_o instance_n in_o any_o other_o qualification_n but_o the_o humble_a do_v not_o forget_v the_o humble_a the_o lord_n he_o can_v pass_v by_o king_n and_o prince_n and_o great_a one_o but_o he_o will_v not_o forget_v the_o humble_a as_o i_o remember_v that_o famous_a mr._n fox_n that_o write_v the_o book_n of_o martyr_n when_o a_o poor_a woman_n come_v to_o beg_v of_o he_o his_o prayer_n well_o say_v he_o i_o may_v forget_v king_n and_o prince_n but_o i_o hope_v i_o shall_v never_o forget_v a_o humble_a break_a soul_n this_o be_v god_n respect_n to_o the_o humble_a and_o then_o in_o psal_n 10._o 17._o lord_n thou_o have_v hear_v the_o desire_n of_o the_o humble_a thou_o will_v prepare_v their_o heart_n thou_o will_v incline_v thy_o ear_n to_o hear_v a_o humble_a heart_n if_o he_o have_v but_o a_o desire_n present_o god_n hear_v it_o mark_n thou_o have_v hear_v the_o desire_n of_o the_o humble_a he_o do_v not_o say_v thou_o have_v hear_v the_o prayer_n of_o the_o humble_a but_o thou_o have_v hear_v the_o desire_n of_o the_o humble_a the_o very_a desire_n of_o a_o humble_a soul_n cry_v aloud_o in_o god_n ear_n and_o therefore_o by_o the_o way_n of_o all_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n take_v heed_n of_o wrong_v those_o that_o be_v humble_a take_v heed_n of_o do_v wrong_a to_o one_o that_o have_v a_o lowly_a heart_n if_o such_o a_o one_o that_o have_v a_o break_a heart_n go_v and_o make_v his_o moan_n to_o god_n woe_n unto_o thou_o for_o no_o cry_n take_v such_o mighty_a impression_n in_o god_n heart_n as_o the_o cry_n of_o the_o humble_a if_o it_o be_v twenty_o year_n after_o he_o will_v not_o forget_v it_o such_o a_o humble_a soul_n come_v and_o make_v its_o moan_n against_o such_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n and_o i_o remember_v it_o and_o therefore_o in_o these_o time_n when_o you_o call_v for_o prayer_n and_o the_o church_n call_v for_o prayer_n and_o our_o own_o necessity_n call_v for_o prayer_n we_o have_v need_n be_v of_o humble_a spirit_n for_o this_o be_v a_o main_a ingredient_n for_o the_o prevalency_n of_o prayer_n and_o therefore_o there_o be_v a_o excellency_n in_o the_o grace_n of_o humility_n seven_o further_n a_o humble_a heart_n be_v a_o try_a heart_n no_o man_n or_o woman_n know_v their_o own_o heart_n but_o those_o that_o be_v humble_a thou_o can_v not_o know_v thy_o own_o heart_n till_o thou_o be_v humble_a there_o be_v many_o afraid_a lest_o they_o shall_v be_v deceive_v they_o cry_v out_o o_o my_o heart_n be_v deceitful_a and_o i_o may_v deceive_v myself_o and_o perish_v at_o last_o will_v thou_o prevent_v this_o will_v thou_o not_o be_v deceive_v in_o the_o matter_n of_o
they_o shall_v trust_v in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n it_o be_v speak_v of_o the_o time_n of_o captivity_n and_o great_a misery_n that_o people_n shall_v be_v in_o time_n of_o trouble_n yea_o all_o outward_a needful_a thing_n be_v promise_v to_o the_o humble_a in_o prov._n 22._o 4._o by_o humility_n and_o the_o fear_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v riches_n and_o honour_n and_o life_n you_o will_v say_v humble_a people_n may_v be_v be_v poor_a but_o they_o have_v more_o assurance_n of_o riches_n than_o any_o in_o the_o world_n have_v they_o have_v god_n bond_n for_o riches_n but_o still_o ever_o to_o be_v understand_v with_o the_o condition_n of_o the_o cross_n ever_o understand_v so_o as_o may_v be_v useful_a for_o the_o enrich_n of_o their_o soul_n god_n have_v promise_v to_o enrich_v their_o outward_a estate_n you_o think_v by_o the_o pride_n of_o your_o heart_n and_o your_o bussel_n in_o the_o world_n you_o may_v get_v much_o but_o by_o walk_v humble_o with_o god_n you_o may_v expect_v more_o blessing_n upon_o your_o estate_n than_o from_o any_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n but_o now_o that_o which_o be_v the_o main_a promise_n of_o all_o be_v that_o in_o the_o text_n learn_v of_o i_o for_o i_o be_o meek_a and_o lowly_a in_o heart_n and_o you_o shall_v find_v rest_n for_o your_o soul_n and_o there_o be_v no_o people_n in_o the_o world_n that_o have_v so_o much_o rest_n in_o their_o heart_n such_o satisfaction_n in_o their_o soul_n as_o those_o that_o be_v of_o humble_a heart_n there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o disquiet_n in_o the_o world_n and_o man_n complain_v that_o they_o can_v live_v at_o quiet_a and_o they_o have_v no_o rest_n at_o all_o in_o their_o spirit_n know_v that_o be_v from_o that_o proud_a spirit_n of_o thou_o that_o there_o be_v no_o rest_n in_o thy_o bone_n and_o spirit_n but_o if_o god_n come_v once_o to_o work_v this_o grace_n of_o humility_n in_o thy_o soul_n thou_o will_v find_v rest_n unto_o thy_o soul_n in_o all_o thy_o way_n thou_o will_v walk_v with_o such_o a_o quiet_a and_o content_v spirit_n that_o none_o in_o the_o world_n walk_v with_o will_v not_o any_o of_o you_o have_v this_o promise_v fulfil_v in_o such_o troublesome_a time_n as_o this_o when_o there_o be_v no_o rest_n in_o any_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n here_o be_v that_o scripture_n that_o will_v show_v that_o though_o you_o can_v have_v rest_n in_o any_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n yet_o you_o shall_v have_v rest_n in_o your_o soul_n it_o be_v in_o the_o former_a verse_n when_o christ_n do_v invite_v poor_a lade_v sinner_n to_o come_v to_o he_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_n there_o be_v the_o rest_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o come_v to_o the_o soul_n by_o jesus_n christ_n i_o do_v not_o intend_v to_o look_v back_o to_o those_o thing_n all_o that_o i_o intend_v in_o this_o promise_n be_v to_o show_v you_o how_o humility_n bring_v rest_n unto_o the_o soul_n i_o have_v show_v before_o how_o meekness_n bring_v rest_n unto_o the_o soul_n and_o then_o we_o shall_v come_v to_o the_o word_n follow_v the_o easiness_n of_o the_o yoke_n of_o jesus_n christ_n to_o those_o that_o be_v thus_o lowly_a as_o christ_n will_v have_v they_o to_o be_v thirteen_o humility_n be_v a_o excellent_a grace_n next_o unto_o that_o grace_n that_o the_o scripture_n make_v to_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o new_a covenant_n faith_n it_o be_v that_o grace_n that_o be_v most_o useful_a and_o necessary_a to_o give_v god_n the_o glory_n of_o the_o new_a covenant_n and_o that_o upon_o this_o ground_n for_o god_n though_o he_o do_v intend_v salvation_n to_o some_o wretched_a and_o unworthy_a creature_n yet_o he_o have_v so_o wrought_v in_o his_o wisdom_n that_o he_o will_v save_v they_o in_o such_o a_o way_n as_o he_o shall_v have_v all_o the_o glory_n and_o the_o creature_n shall_v be_v debase_v as_o much_o as_o can_v be_v we_o can_v think_v how_o a_o infinite_a wisdom_n can_v find_v out_o a_o way_n to_o save_v mankind_n and_o that_o in_o a_o way_n of_o covenant_n too_o to_o save_v lose_v man_n in_o a_o way_n of_o a_o covenant_n wherein_o man_n that_o be_v save_v shall_v be_v debase_v and_o the_o name_n of_o god_n so_o much_o honour_v as_o that_o way_n be_v that_o god_n have_v do_v in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n for_o it_o be_v this_o god_n will_v save_v they_o in_o the_o way_n of_o a_o covenant_n a_o covenant_n you_o will_v say_v that_o be_v somewhat_o it_o be_v true_a god_n will_v require_v somewhat_o of_o man_n in_o the_o covenant_n i_o but_o yet_o in_o that_o manner_n as_o man_n be_v as_o much_o debase_v as_o possible_o can_v be_v for_o the_o condition_n be_v so_o as_o man_n must_v be_v empty_v of_o all_o be_v nothing_o in_o himself_o he_o must_v go_v whole_o out_o of_o himself_o for_o a_o principle_n of_o life_n yea_o and_o when_o he_o have_v it_o he_o must_v live_v upon_o that_o that_o be_v out_o of_o himself_o for_o so_o a_o christian_a must_v do_v not_o only_o go_v first_o in_o jesus_n christ_n for_o a_o principle_n of_o life_n there_o but_o this_o principle_n of_o life_n must_v depend_v upon_o christ_n it_o can_v be_v with_o man_n now_o as_o it_o be_v with_o adam_n god_n give_v adam_n grace_n and_o he_o be_v to_o live_v upon_o that_o stock_n but_o now_o we_o have_v grace_n from_o christ_n and_o we_o can_v live_v upon_o that_o stock_n but_o we_o must_v still_o live_v upon_o he_o still_o upon_o the_o life_n that_o be_v in_o he_o so_o that_o man_n be_v the_o most_o empty_v and_o debase_v in_o that_o way_n that_o god_n have_v appoint_v to_o save_v he_o by_o he_o must_v deny_v himself_o in_o the_o great_a manner_n that_o a_o creature_n can_v be_v put_v to_o we_o think_v this_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o self_n denial_n for_o a_o man_n to_o be_v willing_a to_o be_v mean_a in_o the_o world_n and_o to_o suffer_v much_o in_o the_o world_n for_o christ_n it_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o self_n denial_n i_o confess_v but_o when_o the_o soul_n go_v to_o christ_n in_o the_o way_n of_o faith_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n there_o be_v the_o great_a self_n denial_n of_o all_o for_o there_o a_o man_n do_v not_o only_o deny_v his_o outward_a comfort_n here_o for_o the_o present_a but_o he_o deny_v his_o own_o righteousness_n his_o own_o ability_n his_o own_o gift_n yea_o and_o afterward_o when_o he_o come_v to_o have_v grace_n he_o deny_v they_o too_o and_o whole_o go_v out_o of_o himself_o for_o justification_n and_o reconciliation_n with_o god_n and_o all_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v excellent_a in_o their_o own_o nature_n he_o do_v so_o long_o under_o the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n because_o god_n will_v be_v weaken_v the_o pride_n of_o their_o heart_n you_o think_v that_o a_o poor_a soul_n that_o have_v horror_n and_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n have_v little_a pride_n in_o he_o one_o that_o be_v ready_a to_o despair_v and_o to_o conclude_v of_o itself_o that_o it_o shall_v go_v to_o hell_n be_v that_o soul_n proud_a certain_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o pride_n in_o it_o then_o you_o will_v say_v how_o will_v that_o appear_v that_o it_o be_v pride_n because_o it_o will_v fain_o find_v somewhat_o in_o itself_o to_o present_v unto_o god_n for_o its_o mercy_n though_o it_o do_v not_o think_v to_o merit_v yet_o it_o will_v present_v something_o to_o god_n for_o its_o mercy_n and_o here_o be_v pride_n the_o heart_n have_v not_o deny_v itself_o thus_o as_o to_o venture_v itself_o upon_o christ_n though_o it_o have_v nothing_o to_o present_v to_o god_n it_o be_v not_o bring_v to_o this_o to_o go_v uprightness_n of_o my_o heart_n that_o i_o will_v not_o venture_v upon_o it_o without_o thy_o call_v and_o then_o when_o i_o see_v that_o i_o venture_v upon_o it_o such_o a_o soul_n must_v needs_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o quiet_a second_o one_o that_o be_v humble_a have_v rest_n because_o he_o can_v never_o be_v in_o so_o low_a a_o condition_n but_o his_o heart_n be_v low_a than_o his_o condition_n this_o be_v a_o excellent_a frame_n of_o spirit_n though_o my_o estate_n be_v low_a yet_o my_o heart_n be_v low_a if_o you_o be_v able_a to_o say_v so_o you_o that_o have_v low_a estate_n your_o care_n be_v how_o you_o can_v raise_v your_o estate_n if_o i_o can_v raise_v my_o estate_n as_o high_a as_o other_o then_o i_o shall_v have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o peace_n and_o comfort_n no_o thy_o way_n must_v be_v to_o lowen_v thy_o heart_n that_o be_v the_o way_n to_o raise_v thy_o estate_n if_o a_o man_n affliction_n be_v above_o his_o heart_n and_o his_o heart_n beneath_o the_o affliction_n if_o the_o fire_n he_o under_o the_o fuel_n than_o the_o fire_n quick_o catch_v the_o fuel_n but_o now_o if_o the_o fire_n be_v above_o the_o fuel_n it_o will_v not_o so_o soon_o kinkle_v it_o so_o i_o say_v in_o a_o man_n affliction_n if_o a_o man_n heart_n be_v above_o his_o affliction_n i_o mean_v in_o a_o sinful_a way_n he_o have_v lift_v up_o his_o heart_n and_o he_o will_v have_v high_a thing_n than_o these_o thing_n be_v and_o these_o thing_n be_v beneath_o his_o spirit_n he_o have_v a_o high_a design_n and_o plot_n and_o aim_v at_o great_a thing_n and_o these_o thing_n be_v beneath_o what_o he_o will_v have_v oh_o then_o the_o affliction_n trouble_v the_o spirit_n but_o when_o a_o man_n spirit_n be_v beneath_o his_o affliction_n then_o a_o man_n have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o rest_n and_o quiet_a he_o be_v low_a than_o his_o affliction_n and_o therefore_o he_o be_v quiet_a three_o another_o thing_n in_o the_o lowliness_n of_o heart_n that_o do_v bring_v quietness_n and_o have_v affinity_n with_o it_o be_v this_o one_o that_o be_v lowly_a in_o heart_n have_v never_o any_o disappointment_n in_o the_o world_n nothing_o be_v more_o troublesome_a and_o disquiet_v to_o a_o man_n spirit_n then_o disappointment_n now_o one_o that_o be_v lowly_a in_o heart_n he_o expect_v no_o great_a matter_n in_o this_o world_n and_o therefore_o he_o can_v be_v much_o disappoint_v in_o any_o thing_n that_o befall_v and_o so_o he_o be_v quiet_a you_o that_o have_v great_a plot_n and_o design_n in_o your_o head_n and_o make_v account_n of_o great_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n there_o will_v follow_v many_o cross_n that_o will_v disappoint_v you_o and_o how_o do_v they_o disquiet_v you_o you_o may_v account_v of_o such_o a_o voyage_n and_o when_o it_o be_v lose_v how_o unquiet_a be_v you_o whereas_o one_o that_o be_v lowly_a in_o heart_n he_o be_v quiet_a and_o go_v on_o in_o obedience_n to_o god_n and_o that_o be_v that_o he_o look_v to_o most_o to_o go_v on_o in_o his_o call_n in_o obedience_n to_o god_n and_o leave_v the_o issue_n to_o god_n and_o therefore_o if_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n come_v in_o he_o receive_v it_o thankful_o because_o he_o be_v most_o unworthy_a if_o he_o be_v cross_v he_o be_v not_o much_o disappoint_v because_o he_o look_v for_o no_o high_a thing_n four_o a_o humble_a heart_n must_v needs_o bring_v rest_n because_o this_o be_v the_o guise_n and_o frame_v of_o it_o it_o will_v have_v god_n to_o have_v his_o glory_n his_o own_o way_n and_o this_o one_o principle_n oh_o what_o abundance_n of_o quiet_a and_o rest_n that_o god_n shall_v be_v glorify_v in_o his_o own_o way_n this_o be_v hard_a now_o let_v this_o and_o the_o other_o fall_v out_o i_o but_o yet_o say_v a_o lowly_a heart_n it_o be_v fit_a god_n i_o shall_v refer_v that_o as_o a_o seasonable_a point_n to_o be_v handle_v at_o another_o time_n certain_o god_n have_v make_v many_o people_n to_o be_v humble_v and_o yet_o not_o humble_a in_o the_o want_n of_o humility_n to_o be_v humble_v for_o our_o pride_n be_v a_o argument_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o humility_n as_o much_o as_o any_o thing_n whatsoever_o and_o certain_o if_o i_o shall_v go_v back_o and_o open_v the_o particular_n of_o the_o behaviour_n of_o a_o humble_a soul_n towards_o god_n its_o self_n and_o other_o certain_o never_o a_o man_n and_o woman_n but_o may_v lay_v his_o hand_n upon_o his_o mouth_n and_o say_v lord_n have_v mercy_n upon_o i_o how_o have_v i_o fail_v in_o the_o behaviour_n of_o my_o spirit_n towards_o god_n myself_o and_o other_o lord_n my_o heart_n heart_n and_o i_o be_o now_o come_v to_o bewail_v they_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o infinite_a god_n and_o to_o set_v myself_o before_o the_o lord_n as_o in_o myself_o a_o condemn_a creature_n before_o a_o infinite_a judge_n i_o be_o come_v now_o to_o plead_v with_o god_n for_o my_o life_n for_o my_o soul_n for_o my_o eternal_a estate_n i_o be_o now_o come_v to_o engage_v my_o soul_n to_o god_n that_o as_o ever_o i_o expect_v mercy_n in_o the_o day_n of_o christ_n so_o i_o be_o willing_a to_o give_v up_o myself_o to_o god_n here_o be_v some_o power_n of_o godliness_n in_o this_o now_o i_o will_v have_v you_o put_v yourselves_o to_o this_o divine_a ease_n the_o more_o a_o gracious_a heart_n do_v this_o the_o more_o ease_n he_o have_v in_o prayer_n as_o i_o will_v appeal_v to_o you_o take_v a_o carnal_a heart_n such_o a_o one_o think_v he_o must_v pray_v and_o so_o he_o come_v in_o the_o morning_n and_o speak_v a_o few_o word_n such_o word_n as_o he_o be_v wont_a to_o do_v and_o such_o word_n as_o may_v be_v he_o have_v hear_v other_o man_n speak_v when_o he_o join_v with_o other_o in_o prayer_n and_o he_o hear_v some_o expression_n in_o prayer_n from_o they_o and_o he_o get_v they_o and_o come_v in_o the_o morning_n and_o speak_v they_o and_o perhaps_o get_v into_o his_o closet_n and_o bare_o speak_v they_o over_o now_o if_o it_o be_v one_o that_o have_v true_a grace_n alas_o he_o be_v in_o a_o troublesome_a condition_n all_o the_o day_n after_o if_o he_o find_v not_o the_o power_n of_o godliness_n in_o it_o such_o a_o one_o have_v no_o quiet_a in_o his_o spirit_n all_o the_o day_n after_o why_o because_o there_o have_v not_o be_v the_o power_n of_o godliness_n in_o his_o duty_n and_o therefore_o he_o be_v trouble_v all_o the_o day_n long_o but_o now_o let_v such_o a_o one_o come_v to_o prayer_n to_o purpose_n in_o the_o morning_n and_o stir_v up_o the_o life_n and_o power_n of_o godliness_n in_o prayer_n worship_v god_n as_o a_o god_n oh_o the_o ease_n and_o quiet_a that_o such_o a_o one_o have_v all_o the_o day_n he_o can_v go_v on_o in_o his_o work_n and_o can_v sing_v at_o his_o work_n so_o that_o the_o ease_n of_o a_o gracious_a heart_n come_v from_o the_o power_n of_o godliness_n in_o a_o duty_n and_o from_o the_o spiritualness_n that_o be_v in_o a_o duty_n but_o the_o ease_n of_o a_o carnal_a heart_n come_v from_o the_o formality_n of_o a_o duty_n as_o because_o the_o duty_n be_v formal_a and_o he_o think_v that_o it_o be_v the_o yoke_n of_o christ_n and_o this_o be_v pretty_a well_o it_o be_v easy_a indeed_o to_o have_v no_o other_o yoke_n than_o this_o to_o worship_n god_n in_o a_o few_o word_n and_o not_o to_o have_v the_o power_n of_o godliness_n in_o the_o duty_n and_o so_o we_o may_v instance_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n you_o come_v to_o the_o word_n bare_o you_o rise_v out_o of_o your_o bed_n and_o come_v and_o sit_v here_o a_o hour_n that_o be_v easy_a enough_o but_o now_o if_o you_o come_v to_o the_o word_n with_o preparation_n and_o think_v now_o i_o be_o go_v into_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n to_o hear_v what_o god_n have_v to_o say_v to_o my_o soul_n this_o morning_n oh_o my_o soul_n
off_o now_o a_o humble_a soul_n be_v a_o afflict_a soul_n be_v willing_a to_o afflict_v itself_o before_o the_o lord_n it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o solicitous_a of_o comfort_n and_o be_v altogether_o for_o comfort_n will_v fain_o have_v comfort_n and_o comfort_n no_o but_o be_v willing_a to_o afflict_v itself_o and_o to_o burden_n itself_o with_o its_o own_o sin_n and_o to_o beat_v down_o itself_o as_o we_o read_v of_o paul_n 1_o cor._n 9_o 27._o the_o text_n say_v he_o beat_v down_o his_o body_n lest_o after_o he_o have_v preach_v unto_o other_o he_o himself_o shall_v be_v a_o reprobate_n not_o to_o afflict_v ourselves_o as_o papist_n to_o be_v whip_v ourselves_o and_o to_o do_v those_o thing_n that_o god_n never_o aequire_v at_o our_o hand_n but_o so_o far_o as_o any_o way_n god_n shall_v require_v it_o such_o a_o one_o be_v willing_a to_o afflict_v itself_o before_o the_o lord_n the_o main_a work_n of_o the_o heart_n in_o this_o thing_n be_v that_o it_o be_v not_o solicitous_a so_o much_o for_o comfort_n as_o to_o be_v willing_a to_o be_v afflict_v before_o the_o lord_n so_o far_o as_o god_n will_v have_v it_o afflict_v so_o now_o put_v all_o these_o together_o and_o you_o may_v see_v the_o behaviour_n of_o a_o lowly_a heart_n in_o respect_n of_o itself_o 1._o it_o be_v suspicious_a of_o itself_o jealous_a lest_o theâ—e_n shall_v be_v some_o secret_a evil_n in_o the_o heart_n that_o it_o do_v nor_o know_v of_o 2._o it_o be_v willing_a to_o know_v the_o worst_a of_o itself_o 3._o it_o look_v often_o to_o its_o poor_a beginning_n 4._o it_o be_v ashamed_a of_o itself_o and_o thâ—t_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o its_o own_o excellency_n 5._o it_o loathe_v and_o abhor_v itself_o before_o the_o lord_n 6._o it_o judge_v itself_o 7._o it_o deny_v itself_o 8._o it_o keep_v down_o itself_o 9_o it_o hidâ—â—_n itself_o 10._o it_o go_v out_o of_o itself_o and_o empty_v itself_o 11._o it_o bemoan_v itself_o and_o last_o it_o afflict_v itself_o so_o that_o your_o heart_n now_o have_v these_o working_n in_o they_o in_o reference_n to_o yourselves_o you_o may_v by_o this_o examine_v whether_o you_o have_v humble_a and_z lowly_a heart_n yea_o or_o no._n chap._n cxxv_o three_o consequence_n from_o the_o former_a point_n and_o from_o all_o these_o thing_n there_o be_v these_o three_o consequence_n consequence_n 1._o first_n here_o you_o may_v see_v how_o to_o examine_v your_o own_o heart_n in_o respect_n of_o humility_n whether_o you_o find_v these_o working_n of_o a_o humble_a spirit_n in_o respect_n of_o yourselves_o lay_v these_o and_o your_o heart_n level_v examine_v and_o call_v your_o heart_n to_o a_o account_n when_o you_o get_v alone_o by_o these_o twelve_o forego_v particular_n ask_v thyself_o as_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n be_v my_o heart_n thus_o have_v i_o this_o lowly_a heart_n christ_n will_v have_v i_o of_o a_o lowly_a heart_n thus_o if_o you_o can_v find_v these_o charge_v yourselves_o with_o the_o want_n of_o they_o and_o take_v a_o advantage_n even_o from_o the_o want_n of_o they_o to_o humble_v your_o heart_n before_o the_o lord_n because_o you_o have_v not_o these_o thing_n that_o be_v the_o genuine_a and_o natural_a working_n of_o a_o humble_a spirit_n for_o so_o they_o be_v if_o you_o can_v find_v your_o heart_n come_v off_o in_o in_o these_o particular_n in_o a_o natural_a way_n from_o a_o renew_a nature_n you_o may_v have_v abundance_n of_o comfort_n that_o this_o grace_n of_o humility_n of_o lowliness_n that_o christ_n will_v have_v you_o learn_v be_v wrought_v in_o your_o soul_n you_o have_v be_v a_o proficient_a in_o christ_n school_n but_o many_o may_v have_v cause_n upon_o the_o hear_n of_o this_o to_o charge_v themselves_o with_o this_o that_o they_o scarce_o have_v begin_v to_o learn_v in_o the_o school_n of_o christ_n to_o learn_v humility_n consequence_n 2._o second_o another_o consequence_n be_v this_o upon_o the_o consideration_n of_o these_o several_a working_n of_o humility_n in_o respect_n of_o ourselves_o we_o may_v see_v that_o the_o work_n of_o a_o christian_a be_v very_o much_o inward_a it_o be_v a_o work_n of_o reflection_n upon_o ourselves_o if_o there_o be_v nothing_o to_o do_v in_o a_o christian_n life_n but_o that_o that_o be_v external_a to_o perform_v some_o outward_a duty_n to_o come_v and_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o speak_v good_a thing_n and_o pray_v and_o make_v a_o outward_a profession_n the_o life_n of_o a_o christian_a be_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o easy_a but_o from_o this_o that_o you_o hear_v from_o the_o work_n of_o this_o one_o grace_n of_o humility_n you_o may_v see_v that_o the_o work_n of_o a_o christian_a lie_n much_o within_o door_n that_o christian_n shall_v be_v very_o busy_a within_o their_o heart_n there_o be_v many_o working_n within_o rather_o then_o without_o and_o therefore_o if_o you_o will_v profess_v yourselves_o to_o be_v christian_n and_o will_v indeed_o have_v the_o power_n of_o godliness_n in_o your_o heart_n you_o must_v work_v â—uch_o inward_o there_o must_v be_v much_o reflection_n upon_o your_o own_o heart_n consequence_n 3._o three_o and_o last_o another_o consequence_n be_v this_o by_o this_o that_o you_o have_v hear_v what_o the_o work_n of_o a_o humble_a heart_n in_o respect_n of_o itself_o be_v we_o may_v take_v notice_n of_o the_o great_a power_n of_o jesus_n christ_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o christian_a wheresoever_o grace_n be_v wrought_v jesus_n christ_n be_v very_o powerful_a and_o very_a strong_a in_o that_o heart_n certain_o these_o thing_n can_v never_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o poor_a wretched_a sinner_n yea_o in_o a_o heart_n that_o be_v natural_o very_o proud_a for_o so_o we_o be_v all_o and_o be_v not_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n very_o powerful_a in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o christian_a these_o thing_n can_v never_o be_v wherefore_o when_o you_o hear_v that_o these_o thing_n be_v in_o a_o heart_n work_v thus_o we_o may_v conclude_v sure_o the_o power_n of_o jesus_n christ_n be_v very_o mighty_a and_o very_o strong_a well_o thus_o you_o have_v the_o grace_n of_o humility_n present_v to_o you_o towards_o god_n and_o yourselves_o let_v we_o learn_v to_o be_v of_o lowly_a heart_n and_o be_v not_o at_o rest_n until_o you_o find_v these_o kind_n of_o working_n in_o your_o spirit_n chap._n cxxvi_o the_o first_o property_n of_o humility_n in_o respect_n of_o uther_n be_v that_o it_o think_v better_a of_o other_o than_o itself_o which_o be_v lay_v open_a in_o divers_a particular_a answer_n unto_o several_a doubt_n and_o objection_n there_o be_v yet_o one_o of_o these_o three_o thing_n to_o be_v speak_v unto_o in_o this_o grace_n of_o humility_n which_o be_v the_o three_o particular_a what_o the_o behaviour_n of_o a_o humble_a heart_n be_v in_o reference_n unto_o other_o for_o humility_n much_o appear_v in_o that_o though_o the_o principal_a work_n in_o humility_n be_v in_o the_o carriage_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o reference_n unto_o god_n and_o in_o reference_n unto_o itself_o yet_o there_o be_v very_o much_o in_o this_o grace_n of_o humility_n in_o the_o carriage_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o reference_n unto_o our_o brethren_n now_o than_o the_o first_o thing_n wherein_o the_o behaviour_n of_o a_o humble_a heart_n be_v in_o reference_n unto_o other_o and_o a_o principal_a thing_n it_o be_v of_o very_o great_a concernment_n and_o that_o be_v this_o first_o it_o think_v better_a of_o other_o than_o itself_o this_o great_a work_n of_o humility_n that_o have_v very_o much_o in_o it_o as_o i_o shall_v show_v in_o open_v of_o it_o be_v hold_v forth_o unto_o you_o in_o 2_o of_o phillipian_o 3_o verse_n let_v nothing_o be_v do_v through_o strife_n or_o vain_a glory_n but_o in_o lowliness_n of_o mind_n let_v each_o esteem_v other_o better_a than_o themselves_o mark_v this_o be_v the_o work_n of_o a_o lowly_a mind_n learn_v of_o i_o for_o i_o be_o lowly_a in_o heart_n you_o must_v be_v of_o lowly_a heart_n of_o lowly_a mind_n what_o be_v that_o say_v the_o apostle_n let_v each_o esteem_n other_o better_a than_o themselves_o you_o will_v say_v this_o indeed_o upon_o the_o very_a hear_n of_o it_o do_v make_v we_o judge_v it_o to_o be_v a_o great_a work_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o the_o heart_n to_o esteem_v other_o better_a than_o themselves_o and_o â—ow_o that_o shall_v be_v that_o i_o shall_v speak_v unto_o by_o and_o by_o in_o the_o open_n of_o it_o but_o i_o shall_v first_o show_v some_o example_n of_o it_o of_o esteem_v other_o better_a than_o themselves_o that_o which_o count_v humility_n to_o have_v a_o excellency_n in_o it_o it_o be_v christ_n that_o be_v come_v from_o the_o bosom_n of_o his_o father_n into_o the_o world_n to_o be_v a_o example_n and_o a_o pattern_n to_o hold_v forth_o the_o excellency_n and_o glory_n of_o this_o grace_n before_o the_o world_n and_o that_o be_v one_o reason_n why_o christ_n come_v into_o the_o world_n namely_o to_o hold_v forth_o the_o glory_n and_o excellency_n of_o his_o grace_n humility_n may_v say_v but_o little_a of_o its_o own_o praise_n god_n take_v care_n for_o the_o glory_n of_o it_o it_o will_v discover_v itself_o by_o the_o fragrancy_n of_o itself_o as_o violet_n discover_v themselves_o by_o the_o sweetness_n of_o they_o though_o they_o be_v cover_v with_o leave_n so_o the_o excellency_n of_o humility_n will_v discover_v itself_o by_o its_o sweetness_n and_o no_o man_n or_o woman_n needs_o to_o take_v care_n for_o the_o discovery_n of_o its_o excellency_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v abundant_a folly_n for_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n to_o be_v proud_a of_o their_o humility_n or_o to_o show_v themselves_o humble_a that_o other_o may_v take_v notice_n of_o it_o and_o so_o commend_v they_o for_o it_o but_o true_a humility_n show_v forth_o itself_o and_o it_o must_v not_o be_v force_v but_o let_v it_o alone_o and_o let_v it_o appear_v in_o itself_o in_o a_o genuine_a way_n and_o its_o excellency_n of_o its_o self_n will_v be_v best_a discover_v let_v we_o see_v theâ—_n wherein_o the_o true_a excellency_n of_o a_o lowly_a heart_n appear_v that_o we_o may_v be_v in_o love_n and_o what_o not_o it_o be_v in_o this_o that_o herein_o the_o yoke_n of_o antichrist_n be_v a_o iron_n yoke_n that_o it_o will_v have_v a_o violent_a base_a force_a belief_n and_o force_a alteration_n of_o a_o man_n judgement_n that_o if_o he_o be_v but_o mere_o a_o man_n he_o must_v suffer_v all_o the_o torment_n â—n_o the_o world_n rather_o than_o come_v to_o alter_v his_o that_o be_v not_o to_o accept_v of_o repentance_n of_o any_o general_a repentance_n and_o mourning_n except_o there_o be_v a_o reform_v of_o the_o particular_a thing_n wherein_o they_o judge_v man_n to_o be_v amiss_o which_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o yoke_n of_o christ_n say_v christ_n you_o must_v do_v what_o you_o be_v convince_v of_o to_o be_v true_a what_o you_o see_v to_o be_v my_o will_n but_o now_o because_o of_o your_o weakness_n you_o can_v perhaps_o understand_v it_o to_o be_v my_o will_n this_o be_v your_o sin_n well_o but_o i_o will_v accept_v of_o a_o general_a repentance_n that_o if_o i_o see_v your_o heart_n upright_o and_o sincere_a and_o you_o mourn_v not_o only_o for_o your_o sin_n of_o knowledge_n but_o sin_n of_o ignorance_n although_o you_o shall_v die_v and_o reform_v none_o of_o this_o all_o your_o life_n i_o will_v pardon_v and_o accept_v you_o but_o now_o mark_v how_o the_o yoke_n of_o antichrist_n be_v antichrist_n require_v such_o thing_n to_o be_v do_v well_o but_o i_o can_v do_v they_o i_o can_v see_v reason_n why_o i_o shall_v do_v they_o well_o he_o will_v never_o remit_v no_o punishment_n he_o will_v inflict_v punishment_n and_o never_o remit_v any_o till_o you_o revoke_v your_o judgement_n you_o may_v say_v well_o though_o i_o can_v believe_v i_o will_v live_v quiet_o and_o wait_v and_o use_v all_o the_o mean_n i_o can_v to_o convince_v i_o that_o this_o be_v the_o right_a way_n and_o if_o i_o can_v i_o will_v live_v quiet_o with_o you_o that_o will_v not_o serve_v the_o turn_n nay_o but_o if_o you_o do_v not_o see_v it_o you_o must_v lie_v under_o this_o punishment_n till_o you_o come_v to_o revoke_v your_o error_n and_o profess_v and_o practise_v the_o contrary_a thus_o antichrist_n lay_v more_o weight_n upon_o his_o law_n than_o christ_n do_v upon_o he_o for_o christ_n say_v thus_o there_o be_v such_o a_o law_n i_o require_v of_o you_o it_o be_v true_a if_o you_o do_v not_o do_v it_o or_o understand_v it_o it_o be_v your_o sin_n but_o because_o of_o your_o weakness_n i_o will_v accept_v of_o a_o general_a repentance_n you_o repent_v of_o all_o the_o sin_n you_o do_v know_v there_o you_o repent_v in_o general_n for_o sin_n of_o ignorance_n and_o though_o you_o shall_v not_o reform_v all_o your_o day_n i_o will_v accept_v of_o it_o but_o now_o when_o you_o come_v to_o their_o court_n there_o will_v be_v no_o help_n for_o you_o except_o you_o promise_v the_o contrary_a thing_n that_o you_o do_v before_o you_o must_v come_v and_o reform_v and_o amend_v
what_o you_o do_v now_o and_o if_o they_o see_v that_o since_o you_o begin_v to_o go_v to_o sermon_n and_o to_o make_v more_o profession_n of_o religion_n that_o your_o life_n be_v more_o fill_v with_o discomfort_n and_o vex_v and_o fret_v and_o discouragement_n than_o before_o what_o will_v they_o say_v what_o way_n be_v these_o who_o will_v come_v into_o these_o way_n they_o make_v theâ—_n mad_a and_o make_v they_o fool_n and_o unfit_a they_o for_o any_o business_n oh_o this_o be_v a_o shame_n to_o he_o way_n of_o christ_n though_o it_o be_v true_a now_o thou_o see_v more_o cause_n of_o humiliation_n than_o before_o but_o for_o all_o this_o know_v that_o this_o be_v not_o legal_a humiliation_n but_o evangelical_a humiliation_n and_o there_o be_v sweetness_n in_o that_o bitter_a of_o sin_n if_o thou_o understand_v it_o in_o a_o evangelical_a way_n and_o though_o thou_o shall_v mourn_v for_o thy_o sin_n yet_o thou_o shall_v carry_v thyself_o with_o that_o gentleness_n and_o humility_n and_o meekness_n in_o thy_o spirit_n thou_o shall_v discover_v that_o sweetness_n of_o heart_n and_o cheerfulness_n and_o activeness_n in_o your_o calling_n go_v about_o your_o business_n better_o than_o ever_o before_o that_o they_o may_v say_v sure_o the_o way_n of_o christ_n be_v easy_a and_o so_o other_o may_v be_v in_o love_n with_o they_o but_o if_o other_o shall_v see_v you_o to_o be_v more_o high_a and_o lofty_a in_o your_o spirit_n more_o proud_a more_o disdain_v more_o neglective_a in_o your_o calling_n and_o more_o cross_a in_o your_o carriage_n than_o before_o than_o they_o will_v be_v keep_v off_o from_o those_o way_n consequence_n 5._o again_o if_o the_o way_n of_o christ_n be_v so_o easy_a certain_o jesus_n christ_n will_v expect_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o service_n from_o you_o because_o he_o give_v you_o much_o ease_n a_o man_n that_o walk_v at_o liberty_n he_o may_v walk_v apace_o a_o porter_n that_o have_v a_o great_a burden_n upon_o he_o whilst_o that_o that_o burden_n be_v upon_o he_o he_o can_v go_v so_o fast_o if_o one_o shall_v come_v and_o say_v to_o he_o why_o do_v not_o you_o go_v fast_o he_o will_v answer_v if_o you_o have_v such_o a_o paul_n and_o have_v know_v all_o of_o christ_n and_o hear_v so_o much_o of_o the_o gospel_n open_v to_o he_o how_o will_v he_o have_v say_v o_o how_o sweet_a be_v thy_o law_n and_o if_o his_o heart_n be_v enlarge_v he_o can_v run_v the_o way_n of_o god_n commandment_n i_o but_o david_n he_o be_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o ceremonial_a law_n for_o it_o be_v not_o that_o which_o be_v reveal_v in_o the_o gospel_n certain_o he_o have_v not_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o thing_n reveal_v there_o though_o he_o have_v a_o more_o than_o ordinary_a measure_n of_o knowledge_n and_o if_o he_o walk_v so_o free_o and_o cheerful_o in_o the_o way_n of_o christ_n certain_o we_o shall_v do_v much_o more_o service_n for_o the_o lord_n now_o the_o yoke_n be_v take_v from_o we_o as_o the_o ceremonial_a law_n in_o respect_n of_o charge_n we_o be_v free_v from_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o charge_n that_o they_o be_v at_o therefore_o we_o shall_v be_v more_o free_a when_o god_n require_v it_o of_o we_o and_o they_o spend_v so_o much_o time_n in_o outward_a thing_n in_o mere_a outward_a thing_n then_o shall_v we_o grudge_v god_n our_o time_n in_o spiritual_a communion_n or_o grudge_n god_n time_n in_o our_o family_n a_o quarter_n of_o a_o hour_n to_o worship_n god_n in_o our_o family_n morning_n and_o evening_n in_o the_o law_n they_o spend_v abundance_n of_o time_n in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n it_o may_v be_v you_o think_v it_o much_o to_o rise_v and_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n they_o be_v fain_o to_o go_v long_a journey_n to_o worship_n at_o jerusalem_n wherever_o they_o live_v in_o the_o country_n to_o go_v to_o jerusalem_n to_o worship_n and_o yet_o their_o worship_n be_v but_o a_o external_a thing_n and_o in_o the_o great_a part_n but_o bodily_a labour_n when_o they_o go_v thus_o to_o worship_n they_o have_v not_o the_o mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n open_v to_o they_o as_o you_o have_v to_o recompense_v your_o labour_n therefore_o i_o say_v be_v more_o abundant_a in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n we_o have_v a_o notable_a scripture_n for_o this_o in_o act_n 9_o 31._o of_o the_o state_n of_o the_o church_n when_o once_o they_o have_v ease_n be_v never_o so_o much_o food_n yet_o if_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o labour_n it_o keep_v they_o from_o fatness_n but_o when_o there_o be_v ease_n and_o food_n that_o cause_v bodily_a fatness_n now_o christ_n expect_v in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o all_o christian_n shall_v be_v fat_a and_o well_o like_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v lean_a in_o their_o soul_n why_o for_o 1._o they_o have_v as_o plentiful_a food_n as_o ever_o be_v since_o the_o world_n begin_v never_o have_v they_o better_a diet_n and_o more_o full_a diet_n and_o wholesome_a diet_n than_o now_o and_o 2._o ease_n but_o i_o say_v there_o be_v a_o reveal_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o the_o way_n of_o christ_n to_o be_v easy_a spiritual_o certain_o former_o many_o go_v to_o heaven_n more_o hardly_o than_o we_o not_o only_o in_o respect_n of_o suffering_n but_o in_o respect_n of_o horror_n of_o sin_n the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n there_o be_v scarce_o any_o bring_v to_o jesus_n christ_n but_o be_v bring_v with_o abundance_n of_o horror_n and_o have_v much_o of_o the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n upon_o they_o and_o god_n do_v recompense_v they_o afterward_o abundant_o and_o we_o find_v this_o that_o it_o be_v true_a that_o many_o true_a christian_n never_o know_v so_o much_o horror_n of_o
humble_v for_o our_o sin_n in_o a_o evangelical_a way_n as_o well_o as_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o evangelical_a way_n now_o evangelical_a humiliation_n it_o be_v a_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n not_o that_o we_o may_v purchase_v pâ—â—don_n for_o that_o sorrow_n as_o we_o must_v not_o perform_v a_o duty_n to_o think_v to_o purchase_v heaven_n neither_o must_v we_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n to_o think_v to_o satisfy_v for_o sin_n and_o to_o purchase_v pardon_n for_o our_o sin_n but_o our_o very_a sorrow_n for_o sin_n must_v have_v a_o sweetness_n from_o christ_n in_o it_o it_o must_v be_v out_o of_o love_n our_o very_a mourning_n must_v be_v a_o fruit_n of_o love_n and_o not_o come_v from_o the_o fear_n of_o be_v destroy_v eternal_o for_o such_o sin_n that_o be_v legal_a sorrow_n i_o have_v sin_v against_o god_n and_o therefore_o be_o afraid_a that_o god_n will_v destroy_v i_o eternal_o and_o therefore_o i_o be_o sorry_a no_o but_o i_o have_v sin_v against_o the_o lord_n a_o gracious_a and_o a_o merciful_a father_n and_o the_o lord_n yet_o have_v make_v a_o covenant_n with_o i_o that_o he_o will_v not_o take_v advantage_n of_o my_o sin_n that_o he_o will_v not_o destroy_v i_o and_o continual_o and_o then_o prayer_n will_v be_v easy_a it_o will_v be_v a_o easy_a thing_n for_o you_o to_o pour_v forth_o your_o soul_n to_o god_n when_o you_o keep_v your_o heart_n in_o a_o pray_a be_v a_o mighty_a ease_n unto_o they_o therefore_o if_o thing_n be_v as_o they_o shall_v certain_o it_o will_v be_v more_o convenient_a to_o have_v it_o more_o ordinary_a and_o constant_a every_o lord_n day_n the_o sacrament_n the_o christian_n in_o the_o primitive_a time_n will_v receive_v it_o every_o day_n in_o the_o year_n and_o they_o keep_v their_o heart_n in_o readiness_n to_o such_o kind_n of_o duty_n let_v it_o be_v what_o work_n it_o will_v be_v you_o shall_v be_v patient_a in_o affliction_n if_o affliction_n come_v upon_o you_o and_o your_o heart_n be_v not_o in_o a_o you_o will_v say_v that_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o toil_n and_o labour_n to_o keep_v our_o heart_n always_o bend_v and_o ready_a to_o good_a work_n to_o that_o i_o answer_v at_o first_o it_o may_v be_v some_o labour_n and_o toil_n but_o those_o that_o have_v once_o get_v their_o heart_n into_o a_o readiness_n find_v it_o not_o so_o hard_a but_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n
of_o god_n very_o much_o the_o experience_n of_o this_o be_v very_o much_o i_o do_v not_o know_v how_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v but_o certain_o now_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n less_o communion_n between_o god_n people_n than_o former_o the_o time_n have_v be_v when_o some_o that_o have_v be_v alone_o have_v be_v strive_v and_o tug_v and_o can_v not_o get_v their_o heart_n into_o any_o good_a tire_v in_o his_o journey_n but_o now_o if_o he_o travel_v and_o have_v good_a company_n and_o good_a discourse_n and_o be_v joyful_a and_o cheerful_a when_o he_o be_v go_v his_o journey_n be_v nothing_o when_o he_o come_v to_o the_o inn_n he_o say_v i_o thank_v god_n i_o be_o not_o weary_a at_o all_o why_o be_v it_o so_o the_o journey_n be_v long_o i_o but_o the_o company_n be_v good_a the_o discourse_n be_v good_a and_o that_o make_v it_o easy_a so_o it_o be_v in_o our_o journey_n to_o heaven_n we_o complain_v of_o tediousness_n in_o our_o journey_n why_o be_v it_o because_o we_o
