beleiver_n that_o his_o fruit_n be_v rot_v so_o he_o endeavour_v to_o persuade_v the_o unbeleiver_n that_o his_o presumption_n be_v faith_n that_o i_o may_v help_v they_o in_o this_o inquiry_n i_o shall_v do_v two_o thing_n 1._o discover_v some_o mistake_a ground_n which_o man_n go_v upon_o think_v that_o to_o be_v a_o evidence_n of_o save_a faith_n which_o be_v not_o so_o 2._o lay_v down_o some_o positive_a evidence_n of_o true_a faith_n 1._o there_o be_v two_o great_a mistake_n about_o faith_n by_o which_o many_o be_v deceive_v viz._n 1._o some_o be_v deceive_v in_o regard_n of_o knowledge_n and_o assent_n they_o think_v they_o have_v true_a justify_v faith_n because_o they_o have_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o give_v as_o they_o think_v a_o right_a assent_n to_o the_o same_o for_o the_o removal_n of_o this_o mistake_n i_o shall_v first_o show_v that_o both_o these_o may_v be_v without_o save_a faith_n second_o i_o shall_v show_v how_o the_o knowledge_n of_o a_o unbeleiver_n and_o his_o assent_n differ_v from_o the_o knowledge_n and_o assent_n of_o true_a faith_n 1._o that_o knowledge_n and_o assent_n be_v not_o faith_n it_o be_v grant_v that_o there_o be_v no_o faith_n true_o wrought_v without_o knowledge_n and_o assent_n but_o that_o there_o may_v be_v knowledge_n and_o some_o assent_n where_o save_v faith_n be_v not_o appear_v by_o these_o two_o reason_n 1._o the_o most_o wicked_a and_o profane_a person_n in_o the_o world_n may_v have_v and_o many_o time_n do_v attain_v unto_o a_o more_o exact_a knowledge_n of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o scripture_n than_o many_o a_o true_a beleiver_n and_o they_o may_v also_o assent_v unto_o those_o truth_n the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o some_o by_o way_n of_o supposition_n that_o may_v understand_v all_o mystery_n and_o have_v all_o knowledge_n and_o yet_o want_v save_v faith_n 1_o cor._n 13._o 2._o all_o this_o be_v but_o a_o historical_a faith_n judas_n have_v the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o scripture_n and_o give_v assent_v to_o they_o he_o preach_v the_o gospel_n to_o other_o and_o yet_o want_v faith_n john_n 6._o 64._o there_o be_v some_o of_o you_o that_o believe_v not_o you_o know_v what_o will_v be_v the_o plea_n of_o many_o in_o the_o latter_a day_n math._n 7._o 22._o and_o yet_o have_v not_o one_o drachm_n of_o save_a faith_n i_o shall_v desire_v you_o to_o peruse_v but_o that_o one_o scripture_n well_o rom._n 2._o 18_o 19_o 20_o 21_o 22_o 23._o and_o then_o you_o will_v conclude_v that_o neither_o the_o knowledge_n of_o nor_o the_o assent_v to_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o scripture_n be_v save_a faith_n but_o be_v ordinary_o without_o it_o 2._o the_o very_a devil_n themselves_o be_v beyond_o the_o most_o intelligent_a christian_n in_o all_o matter_n of_o unbeleiver_n be_v mere_o notional_a and_o speculative_a a_o beleiver_n have_v in_o his_o heart_n a_o lively_a sense_n and_o feel_n of_o all_o those_o truth_n which_o he_o have_v the_o knowledge_n of_o in_o his_o understanding_n they_o be_v truth_n in_o his_o heart_n as_o well_o as_o in_o his_o head_n that_o promise_n of_o god_n jer._n 31._o 33._o i_o will_v put_v my_o law_n in_o their_o inward_a part_n and_o write_v it_o in_o their_o heart_n be_v make_v good_a to_o every_o true_a beleiver_n and_o to_o he_o alone_o his_o heart_n be_v a_o index_n or_o commentary_n by_o which_o through_o the_o
