spirit_n again_o satan_n be_v a_o perpetual_a enemy_n and_o he_o will_v never_o leave_v off_o to_o seek_v thy_o destruction_n howsoever_o thou_o may_v get_v the_o victory_n and_o be_v at_o peace_n for_o a_o time_n when_o upon_o true_a repentance_n thou_o be_v reconcile_v unto_o god_n yet_o thy_o enemy_n will_v adventure_v again_o and_o thou_o shall_v be_v sure_a of_o many_o battle_n and_o skirmish_n with_o they_o before_o thou_o can_v pass_v through_o the_o wilderness_n of_o this_o world_n to_o the_o canaan_n of_o heaven_n but_o yet_o take_v this_o again_o for_o thy_o comfort_n that_o temptation_n be_v sure_a sign_n that_o they_o that_o be_v trouble_v and_o possess_v therewith_o be_v the_o dear_a child_n of_o god_n and_o temptation_n be_v profitable_a for_o a_o christian_a and_o therefore_o saint_n james_n say_v my_o dear_a brethren_n count_v it_o exceed_a joy_n when_o you_o fall_v into_o divers_a temptation_n know_v that_o etc._n etc._n ja._n 1.2.3_o etc._n etc._n nay_o our_o saviour_n himself_o be_v tempt_v and_o that_o to_o grievous_a sin_n too_o as_o you_o may_v see_v mat._n 4._o as_o to_o idolatry_n distrust_n of_o god_n providence_n and_o to_o doubt_v whether_o he_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n or_o not_o nay_o he_o be_v also_o tempt_v to_o pride_n and_o vainglory_n yea_o to_o lay_v violent_a hand_n upon_o himself_o and_o so_o to_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o his_o own_o death_n and_o when_o the_o devil_n leave_v he_o say_v the_o text_n luk._n 4.13_o it_o be_v but_o for_o a_o season_n st._n paul_n be_v a_o excellent_a christian_a and_o the_o dear_a child_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o he_o can_v not_o be_v free_a from_o assault_n rom._n 7.23_o for_o he_o have_v the_o seed_n of_o sin_n in_o he_o and_o he_o have_v a_o law_n in_o his_o member_n rebel_a against_o the_o law_n of_o his_o mind_n and_o often_o lead_v he_o into_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n for_o he_o have_v inward_a enemy_n and_o he_o be_v not_o free_a from_o outward_a for_o he_o have_v the_o messenger_n of_o satan_n send_v to_o buffet_v he_o 2_o cor._n 12.7_o 8._o that_o be_v satan_n still_o assault_v he_o with_o one_o temptation_n or_o other_o to_o move_v he_o forward_o and_o to_o provoke_v he_o to_o sin_n and_o st._n paul_n pray_v thrice_o that_o be_v often_o and_o earnest_o to_o be_v free_v therefrom_o and_o that_o he_o may_v have_v no_o more_o of_o these_o assault_n and_o trouble_n and_o yet_o he_o can_v not_o be_v free_a and_o why_o do_v not_o god_n give_v and_o grant_v his_o desire_n and_o request_v if_o he_o will_v have_v give_v this_o freedom_n to_o any_o then_o why_o not_o to_o saint_n paul_n i_o answer_v the_o state_n of_o the_o apostle_n require_v it_o be_v a_o member_n of_o the_o church_n militant_a that_o he_o shall_v not_o be_v free_a lest_o he_o may_v grow_v secure_a leave_v off_o fight_v and_o so_o cease_v to_o be_v a_o soldier_n which_o we_o must_v not_o do_v in_o this_o life_n for_o we_o then_o break_v our_o vow_n and_o oath_n make_v by_o our_o surety_n or_o parent_n in_o our_o baptism_n wherefore_o we_o must_v i_o say_v fight_v manful_o under_o christ_n cross_n and_o banner_n against_o the_o three_o deadly_a enemy_n of_o the_o soul_n the_o world_n the_o devil_n and_o the_o flesh_n and_o be_v faithful_a unto_o death_n and_o then_o thou_o shall_v have_v a_o crown_n of_o life_n revel_v 2.10_o it_o be_v the_o property_n of_o the_o devil_n say_v saint_n bernard_n to_o suggest_v evil_a motion_n but_o it_o be_v our_o part_n and_o duty_n not_o to_o consent_v unto_o they_o for_o as_o often_o as_o we_o resist_v so_o often_o we_o overcome_v the_o devil_n and_o we_o thereby_o do_v honour_n our_o god_n who_o visit_v we_o that_o we_o shall_v fight_v who_o help_v we_o that_o we_o may_v overcome_v and_o who_o strengthen_v we_o that_o we_o faint_v not_o in_o our_o combat_n to_o be_v tempt_v by_o satan_n be_v satan_n sin_n not_o thou_o but_o to_o yield_v and_o consent_n to_o his_o temptation_n be_v sin_n in_o thou_o and_o know_v this_o that_o see_v our_o saviour_n as_o i_o show_v you_o a_o little_a before_o be_v so_o tempt_v to_o such_o grievous_a temptation_n therefore_o let_v none_o think_v to_o be_v free_a but_o yet_o comfort_v thyself_o with_o this_o that_o god_n who_o be_v thy_o love_a father_n in_o christ_n have_v the_o devil_n in_o chain_n and_o as_o he_o stay_v the_o wave_n of_o the_o sea_n at_o his_o pleasure_n job_n 38.8_o so_o he_o hold_v satan_n as_o it_o be_v with_o bit_n and_o bridle_n that_o he_o can_v tempt_v thou_o not_o otherwise_o nor_o any_o long_o than_o god_n see_v for_o thy_o good_a as_o be_v evident_a by_o the_o example_n of_o job_n job_n 1.12_o and_o if_o the_o child_n of_o god_n be_v tempt_v and_o overcome_v by_o any_o assault_n yet_o upon_o true_a repentance_n and_o come_n unto_o christ_n we_o have_v a_o advocate_n with_o the_o father_n even_o jesus_n christ_n the_o righteous_a and_o he_o be_v the_o propitiation_n for_o our_o sin_n 1._o john_n 2.1_o and_o in_o the_o first_o epistle_n john_n 1.8.9_o if_o we_o say_v that_o we_o have_v no_o sin_n we_o deceive_v ourselves_o and_o the_o truth_n be_v not_o in_o we_o but_o if_o we_o acknowledge_v our_o sin_n than_o he_o be_v faithful_a according_a to_o his_o promise_n to_o forgive_v we_o our_o sin_n and_o to_o cleanse_v we_o from_o all_o unrighteousness_n we_o
