they_o have_v extreme_o lessen_v the_o argument_n for_o our_o love_n viz._n the_o apprehension_n of_o the_o wonderful_a love_n and_o condescension_n of_o christ_n in_o come_v into_o the_o world_n to_o save_v sinner_n and_o yet_o this_o be_v the_o great_a argument_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n to_o persuade_v mankind_n to_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o of_o his_o son_n god_n so_o love_v the_o world_n that_o 16._o he_o give_v his_o only_a beget_v son_n etc._n etc._n this_o be_v indeed_o a_o mighty_a argument_n of_o love_n if_o by_o the_o only_o beget_v son_n be_v mean_v the_o eternal_a son_n of_o god_n who_o come_v down_o from_o heaven_n as_o st._n john_n speak_v just_a before_o 13._o but_o if_o no_o more_o be_v mean_v but_o only_o that_o god_n make_v a_o mere_a man_n to_o be_v hâ—s_a son_n and_o after_o he_o have_v preach_v a_o while_n here_o on_o earth_n and_o be_v ill_o use_v and_o crucify_v by_o his_o own_o people_n he_o exalt_v he_o to_o be_v god_n and_o give_v he_o divine_a attribute_n and_o honour_n this_o be_v a_o argument_n of_o great_a love_n to_o the_o person_n of_o christ_n but_o not_o to_o the_o rest_n of_o mankind_n but_o god_n love_n in_o scripture_n be_v magnify_v with_o respect_n to_o the_o world_n in_o the_o send_n of_o his_o son_n in_o this_o be_v manifest_v 9_o say_v the_o apostle_n the_o love_n of_o god_n towards_o we_o because_o that_o god_n send_v his_o only_o beget_v son_n into_o the_o world_n that_o we_o shall_v live_v through_o he_o herein_o be_v love_n 10._o not_o that_o we_o love_v god_n but_o that_o he_o love_v we_o and_o send_v his_o son_n to_o be_v a_o propitiation_n for_o our_o sin_n the_o great_a love_n we_o still_o see_v be_v towards_o we_o i_o e._n towards_o mankind_n but_o according_a to_o the_o other_o sense_n it_o must_v have_v be_v herein_o be_v the_o love_n of_o god_n manifest_v to_o his_o son_n that_o for_o his_o suffering_n he_o exalt_v he_o above_o all_o creature_n he_o that_o spare_v not_o his_o own_o son_n 32._o say_v st._n paul_n but_o deliver_v he_o up_o for_o we_o all_o if_o he_o be_v the_o eternal_a son_n of_o god_n who_o come_v to_o suffer_v for_o we_o there_o be_v a_o mighty_a force_n and_o emphasis_n in_o this_o expression_n and_o very_o apt_a to_o raise_v our_o admiration_n and_o our_o love_n but_o what_o not_o spare_v his_o own_o son_n be_v there_o if_o nothing_o be_v mean_v be_v manifest_v that_o be_v the_o only_o beget_v son_n of_o the_o father_n he_o shall_v take_v our_o nature_n upon_o he_o and_o for_o our_o sake_n do_v and_o suffer_v what_o he_o do_v this_o be_v indeed_o a_o argument_n great_a enough_o to_o raise_v our_o admiration_n to_o excite_v our_o devotion_n to_o inflame_v our_o affection_n but_o how_o flat_a and_o low_o do_v it_o appear_v when_o it_o come_v to_o no_o more_o than_o this_o that_o there_o be_v a_o man_n who_o after_o his_o suffering_n god_n raise_v from_o the_o dead_a and_o make_v he_o a_o god_n by_o office_n do_v this_o carry_v any_o such_o argument_n in_o it_o for_o our_o esteem_n and_o love_n and_o devotion_n to_o he_o as_o the_o other_o do_v upon_o the_o most_o serious_a consideration_n of_o it_o 2._o which_o tend_v most_o to_o beget_v in_o we_o a_o great_a hatred_n of_o sin_n for_o that_o be_v so_o contrary_a to_o the_o way_n of_o our_o salvation_n by_o jesus_n christ_n that_o what_o tend_v most_o to_o our_o so_o secure_a and_o inapprehensive_a after_o the_o usual_a hymn_n at_o the_o end_n of_o the_o passover_n he_o take_v they_o out_o to_o accompany_v he_o to_o a_o garden_n near_o the_o mount_n of_o olive_n whither_o as_o s._n john_n say_v he_o often_o resort_v with_o his_o disciple_n as_o 2._o they_o be_v go_v along_o our_o saviour_n tell_v they_o more_o plain_o that_o very_a night_n such_o a_o more_o sensible_a of_o their_o weakness_n than_o they_o be_v themselves_o he_o know_v what_o a_o sudden_a change_n his_o apprehension_n and_o arraignment_n will_v cause_v in_o their_o mind_n how_o their_o passion_n will_v be_v too_o strong_a for_o their_o resolution_n and_o they_o who_o so_o late_o have_v declare_v they_o will_v die_v with_o christ_n can_v not_o have_v the_o heart_n to_o stand_v by_o he_o therefore_o although_o his_o own_o suffering_n come_v on_o very_o fast_o upon_o he_o and_o seize_v first_o upon_o his_o mind_n when_o he_o say_v my_o soul_n be_v exceed_o sorrowful_a be_v no_o more_o than_o to_o try_v and_o a_o state_n of_o temptation_n be_v a_o state_n of_o trial_n to_o pray_v therefore_o that_o we_o may_v not_o be_v put_v into_o a_o state_n of_o temptation_n be_v to_o pray_v ourselves_o out_o of_o this_o world_n which_o be_v design_v by_o almighty_a god_n for_o a_o state_n of_o trial_n in_o order_n to_o another_o world_n therefore_o when_o we_o pray_v not_o to_o be_v lead_v into_o temptation_n the_o meaning_n be_v that_o god_n by_o his_o wise_a providence_n will_v keep_v we_o from_o such_o trial_n which_o according_a to_o the_o ordinary_a measure_n of_o grace_n we_o shall_v hardly_o be_v able_a to_o withstand_v for_o although_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o those_o to_o who_o god_n give_v extraordinary_a assistance_n not_o only_o to_o resist_v the_o temptation_n but_o to_o triumph_v over_o it_o and_o to_o shake_v off_o temptation_n as_o st._n paul_n do_v the_o viper_n from_o his_o hand_n on_o which_o account_n st._n james_n say_v to_o such_o heroic_a christian_n my_o brethren_n count_v it_o all_o joy_n when_o you_o fall_v into_o divers_a temptation_n 2_o and_o blessed_n be_v the_o man_n which_o endure_v 12._o temptation_n etc._n etc._n yet_o consider_v the_o frailty_n of_o humane_a nature_n and_o that_o god_n be_v not_o oblige_v to_o give_v extraordinary_a assistance_n in_o difficult_a case_n it_o be_v a_o wise_a and_o become_a petition_n for_o we_o to_o our_o heavenly_a father_n that_o he_o will_v not_o lead_v we_o in_o this_o manner_n into_o temptation_n or_o as_o our_o saviour_n here_o express_v it_o to_o pray_v that_o we_o enter_v not_o into_o temptation_n 2._o but_o because_o our_o saviour_n very_o well_o know_v that_o his_o disciple_n be_v so_o sudden_o to_o enter_v into_o temptation_n in_o the_o former_a sense_n and_o because_o it_o be_v not_o fit_a for_o we_o to_o set_v bound_n to_o god_n infinite_a wisdom_n with_o respect_n to_o our_o condition_n therefore_o there_o be_v a_o far_a meaning_n in_o this_o expression_n viz._n that_o if_o it_o seem_v fit_v to_o he_o who_o have_v the_o power_n and_o right_o to_o dispose_v of_o we_o to_o single_v we_o out_o for_o great_a temptation_n or_o more_o than_o ordinary_a trial_n of_o our_o constancy_n or_o resolution_n that_o then_o he_o will_v give_v such_o supply_n of_o his_o
