say_v that_o we_o desire_v the_o love_n of_o god_n we_o be_v full_a of_o self-love_n which_o make_v we_o desire_v he_o for_o the_o love_n of_o ourselves_o without_o any_o rule_n or_o measure_n whereas_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v just_o the_o contrary_n i_o remember_v some_o doctor_n tell_v i_o that_o lucifer_n be_v the_o first_o who_o commit_v this_o sin_n and_o how_o the_o thing_n which_o he_o desire_v be_v good_a namely_o felicity_n but_o that_o he_o desire_v it_o not_o how_o nor_o when_o nor_o in_o who_o nor_o for_o who_o it_o be_v fit_a that_o he_o shall_v have_v desire_v it_o but_o with_o a_o unbridled_a appetite_n which_o aim_v at_o his_o own_o private_a good_a as_o any_o covetous_a wretch_n may_v desire_v much_o pelf_n or_o any_o ambitious_a man_n much_o honour_n certain_o if_o the_o end_n and_o root_n of_o our_o desire_v one_o and_o the_o same_o thing_n be_v different_a the_o thing_n itself_o which_o be_v materia_o desire_v fall_v out_o after_o a_o sort_n not_o to_o worse_o then_o for_o a_o man_n to_o desire_v any_o thing_n as_o his_o own_o last_o end_n for_o the_o love_n of_o himself_o this_o last_o end_n be_v that_o sovereign_a god_n of_o good_n which_o be_v god_n who_o ought_v to_o be_v the_o aim_n and_o end_n of_o all_o our_o desire_n and_o now_o if_o any_o shall_v say_v by_o not_o understand_v well_o what_o i_o affirm_v that_o i_o seem_v to_o teach_v that_o we_o must_v not_o be_v fervent_a in_o desire_v to_o become_v more_o and_o more_o virtuous_a but_o that_o we_o must_v as_o well_o leave_v all_o to_o god_n which_o belong_v to_o the_o soul_n as_o that_o which_o concern_v the_o body_n my_o answer_n be_v that_o as_o in_o these_o exterior_a thing_n we_o must_v be_v diligent_a but_o not_o afflict_v ourselves_o with_o excess_n of_o care_n and_o anguish_n but_o must_v put_v ourselves_o whole_o into_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n and_o take_v with_o patience_n whatsoever_o come_v so_o in_o those_o thing_n which_o import_n the_o soul_n we_o must_v be_v sure_a to_o be_v more_o diligent_a but_o yet_o with_o condition_n that_o if_o notwithstanding_o our_o diligence_n we_o can_v have_v all_o we_o will_v we_o must_v not_o suffer_v ourselves_o to_o there_o be_v very_o few_o who_o be_v not_o disgu_v with_o their_o own_o fault_n and_o therefore_o though_o the_o former_a of_o these_o two_o way_n be_v high_o yet_o the_o late_a be_v safe_o all_o which_o be_v dispense_v by_o our_o god_n who_o be_v of_o sovereign_a wisdom_n and_o who_o guide_v we_o by_o several_a way_n to_o the_o same_o end_n which_o be_v himself_o and_o though_o we_o be_v never_o so_o covetous_a i_o think_v this_o aught_o to_o stay_v our_o stomach_n with_o a_o sufficiency_n of_o comfort_n that_o we_o may_v hope_v to_o go_v to_o heaven_n whether_o it_o be_v which_o the_o height_n and_o perfection_n of_o virtue_n as_o some_o go_v or_o by_o the_o knowledge_n of_o what_o we_o want_v and_o do_v penance_n for_o the_o same_o as_o many_o other_o do_v but_o themselves_o as_o a_o man_n who_o be_v careless_a of_o so_o many_o base_a and_o break_a pot_n to_o the_o end_n that_o they_o may_v never_o fail_v of_o fidelity_n to_o the_o love_n of_o our_o lord_n which_o love_n be_v never_o comply_v with_o well_o by_o any_o who_o be_v either_o negligent_a or_o inconfident_a for_o the_o former_a of_o these_o two_o seek_v his_o own_o regalo_n whereas_o it_o be_v his_o part_n to_o seek_v the_o contentment_n of_o his_o belove_a and_o the_o latter_a faint_v in_o his_o love_n because_o he_o can_v believe_v that_o he_o be_v belove_v but_o faith_n be_v join_v to_o obedience_n free_v we_o from_o such_o mischeive_n as_o these_o make_v we_o believe_v that_o god_n love_v we_o and_o then_o most_o when_o he_o most_o hide_v his_o love_n from_o we_o and_o when_o he_o seem_v to_o be_v most_o rigorous_a and_o cruel_a towards_o us._n for_o the_o condition_n and_o property_n of_o true_a faith_n be_v to_o believe_v not_o only_o upon_o those_o sign_n and_o pawn_n which_o then_o declare_v best_a of_o what_o strength_n and_o beauty_n it_o be_v when_o it_o be_v put_v on_o by_o the_o few_o help_n and_o when_o it_o be_v encounter_v by_o the_o great_a impediment_n that_o be_v true_a love_n which_o love_v a_o person_n who_o even_o deserve_v not_o to_o be_v belove_v and_o that_o be_v true_a patience_n which_o suffer_v impertinence_n and_o endure_v wrong_n and_o true_a value_n of_o true_a faith_n which_o believe_v and_o put_v confidence_n in_o the_o truth_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n against_o that_o distrust_n or_o despair_n which_o humane_a reason_n or_o the_o sense_n of_o flesh_n and_o blood_n may_v pretend_v to_o cause_n by_o this_o faith_n we_o see_v that_o which_o be_v invisible_a how_o deep_a soever_o it_o be_v hide_v and_o even_o through_o the_o increase_n of_o our_o crown_n and_o for_o matter_n whereupon_o our_o obedience_n to_o god_n must_v work_v if_o you_o believe_v i_o not_o i_o pray_v you_o tell_v i_o how_o shall_v the_o chaste_a woman_n be_v try_v but_o by_o contradiction_n and_o combat_n against_o chastity_n and_o how_o shall_v your_o faith_n be_v try_v but_o by_o receive_v these_o token_n of_o disfavour_v which_o pretend_v to_o deprive_v you_o of_o confidence_n be_v not_o trouble_v to_o find_v that_o your_o spouse_n be_v thus_o resolve_v to_o make_v trial_n of_o your_o fidelity_n to_o he_o for_o this_o be_v a_o very_a if_o follow_v he_o who_o fly_v from_o you_o and_o humble_v yourself_o to_o he_o who_o treat_v you_o no_o better_o than_o some_o base_a unre_o asonable_a creature_n you_o do_v yet_o proceed_v to_o love_v he_o as_o sincere_o and_o pure_o as_o if_o you_o taste_v of_o great_a delight_n and_o regalos_n at_o his_o hand_n for_o in_o the_o end_n he_o will_v answer_n you_o thus_o o_o woman_n great_a be_v thy_o faith_n let_v that_o be_v do_v which_o thou_o desire_v but_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n be_v you_o resolute_a in_o continue_v faith_n full_a and_o say_v to_o he_o with_o your_o whole_a hart_n
