or_o wrestle_v against_o superfluous_a cogitation_n and_o distraction_n the_o reason_n be_v because_o by_o such_o contest_a those_o thought_n be_v glue_v strong_a and_o fast_o in_o the_o mind_n for_o in_o as_o much_o as_o the_o will_n which_o pursue_v any_o thing_n with_o love_n or_o hatred_n awake_v the_o understanding_n to_o comprehend_v it_o and_o the_o memory_n to_o record_v it_o it_o follow_v that_o the_o more_o eager_o the_o will_n be_v animate_v and_o bestir_v itself_o against_o such_o thought_n the_o more_o the_o understanding_n conceive_v they_o renew_v they_o in_o the_o memory_n and_o imprint_n they_o in_o the_o mind_n it_o be_v not_o therefore_o the_o right_a way_n to_o fret_v or_o wrestle_v against_o such_o thought_n and_o distraction_n another_o reason_n be_v because_o the_o more_o a_o man_n so_o contest_v the_o more_o motion_n and_o act_n be_v beget_v in_o the_o soul_n and_o so_o she_o be_v further_a and_o further_o from_o this_o death_n and_o annihilation_n after_o this_o our_o rule_n because_o the_o more_o one_o act_n the_o more_o he_o be_v the_o cure_n of_o this_o imperfection_n be_v the_o contrary_a i._n a_o despise_n of_o such_o thought_n and_o distraction_n by_o annihilate_v himself_o in_o this_o abyss_n of_o light_n and_o life_n wherein_o himself_o fall_v to_o nothing_o those_o thought_n also_o do_v consequent_o vanish_v all_o that_o infinite_a which_o annihilate_v the_o man_n drown_v also_o his_o distraction_n nor_o need_v he_o care_v whether_o he_o feel_v or_o not_o feel_v such_o thought_n but_o even_o abide_v stable_n and_o fix_v in_o his_o yea_o rejoice_v when_o she_o attain_v tâ—_n behold_v he_o without_o which_o manner_n of_o see_v he_o she_o think_v he_o eyesight_n of_o no_o worth_n and_o strive_v in_o that_o manner_n to_o behold_v that_o by_o himself_o and_o the_o final_a annihilation_n of_o ourselves_o let_v not_o therefore_o the_o devout_a reader_n forget_v in_o these_o imperfection_n as_o well_o past_a as_o follow_v of_o what_o thing_n and_o manner_n of_o life_n we_o speak_v i._o of_o contemplation_n in_o the_o life_n supereminent_a a_o eight_o adversary_n to_o the_o perfection_n of_o this_o life_n be_v to_o seek_v god_n otherwise_o then_o by_o simple_a remembrance_n for_o such_o a_o seek_n presuppose_v absence_n since_o none_o seek_v what_o he_o know_v he_o have_v already_o and_o this_o contemplation_n presuppose_v the_o presence_n of_o god_n yet_o this_o imperfection_n arise_v from_o want_n of_o faith_n whilst_o we_o believe_v not_o that_o we_o have_v not_o what_o we_o seek_v nor_o do_v this_o imperfection_n only_o proceed_v from_o some_o darkness_n but_o it_o also_o produce_v other_o cause_v that_o not_o to_o be_v find_v which_o be_v seek_v all_o thing_n have_v their_o time_n say_v the_o remain_v in_o so_o mean_v a_o mansion_n and_o so_o unworthy_o entreat_v but_o rather_o pass_v by_o the_o comfort_n with_o he_o that_o say_v my_o soul_n refuse_v consolation_n we_o be_v to_o lodge_v therewith_o bewail_v the_o misery_n of_o our_o sweet_a redeemer_n and_o taste_v in_o spirit_n his_o pain_n and_o sorrow_n this_o practice_n paul_n extol_v who_o though_o he_o abound_v with_o such_o plenty_n of_o light_n yet_o profess_v himself_o to_o know_v nothing_o else_o but_o jesus_n christ_n and_o he_o crucify_v and_o sure_o all_o his_o writing_n speak_v nothing_o but_o the_o passion_n and_o how_o himself_o be_v transform_v into_o it_o by_o which_o may_v well_o be_v gather_v that_o he_o never_o abandon_v it_o but_o all_o his_o life_n nourish_v behold_v and_o embrace_v it_o for_o the_o three_o point_n i_o judge_v it_o easy_a to_o confirm_v that_o the_o contemplation_n of_o the_o passion_n wherein_o appear_v both_o the_o divine_a and_o humane_a nature_n of_o our_o lord_n be_v perfect_a than_o that_o wherein_o we_o behold_v his_o godhead_n alone_o the_o sole_a godhead_n give_v light_a â—n_n contemplation_n but_o the_o manhood_n by_o example_n instruct_v in_o action_n wherefore_o as_o to_o contemplate_v â—nd_n express_v which_o be_v contemplative_a and_o active_a in_o one_o be_v perfect_a than_o contemplation_n by_o itself_o so_o the_o contemplation_n of_o both_o godhead_n &_o manhood_n in_o one_o as_o be_v find_v in_o the_o passion_n contain_v more_o perfection_n than_o that_o of_o the_o godhead_n alone_o practise_v in_o abstraction_n god_n be_v more_o wonderful_a without_o then_o within_o himself_o for_o in_o himself_o he_o be_v only_o great_a immortal_a &_o impassable_a but_o without_o himself_o he_o be_v both_o great_a and_o little_a immortal_a and_o mortal_a impassable_a and_o passable_a it_o be_v a_o strange_a thing_n to_o see_v a_o man_n through_o excess_n of_o love_n or_o some_o other_o passion_n carry_v without_o himself_o but_o to_o see_v the_o same_o in_o god_n through_o his_o love_n to_o we_o be_v much_o more_o to_o be_v admire_v at_o without_o comparison_n yet_o betwixt_o god_n and_o man_n be_v this_o dfference_n that_o when_o man_n be_v without_o himself_o he_o be_v not_o within_o himself_o but_o god_n be_v both_o at_o once_o alwithin_n and_o all_o without_o himself_o his_o universal_a power_n wisdom_n &_o goodness_n be_v absolute_o without_o himself_o in_o his_o manhood_n and_o within_o himself_o in_o his_o godhead_n beside_o as_o it_o be_v a_o strange_a thing_n that_o god_n shouldbe_n without_o then_o within_o himself_o so_o it_o be_v more_o excellent_a to_o behold_v he_o without_o then_o within_o himself_o but_o as_o in_o the_o practice_n of_o the_o passion_n such_o a_o sweetness_n be_v hide_v as_o never_o any_o will_v natural_o taste_v so_o the_o contemplation_n of_o the_o same_o discover_v such_o a_o wisdom_n as_o never_o any_o humane_a understanding_n comprehend_v and_o as_o we_o can_v come_v no_o other_o way_n to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o this_o taste_n but_o only_o by_o experience_n so_o neither_o be_v there_o any_o possibility_n but_o by_o the_o same_o experience_n to_o imagine_v what_o a_o wisdom_n it_o be_v and_o therefore_o as_o the_o one_o have_v such_o sweetness_n in_o it_o as_o the_o world_n can_v believe_v so_o the_o other_o enroll_v such_o mystery_n and_o divine_a secret_n as_o man_n can_v never_o imagine_v the_o one_o come_v by_o that_o infinite_a goodness_n infuse_v into_o the_o will_n through_o the_o practice_n and_o union_n of_o the_o cross_n the_o other_o by_o that_o eternal_a wisdom_n espouse_v to_o the_o understanding_n by_o contemplation_n of_o this_o mystery_n daily_o be_v new_a joy_n of_o this_o goodness_n taste_v and_o endlesse_o new_a secret_n of_o this_o wisdom_n disclose_v and_o both_o exhaust_v from_o this_o fount_n of_o the_o passion_n for_o as_o the_o world_n can_v never_o conceive_v how_o it_o be_v possible_a that_o a_o man_n crown_v with_o thorn_n can_v expend_v so_o many_o delight_n or_o how_o the_o fellowship_n of_o his_o suffering_n can_v inebriate_v the_o
