the_o other_o the_o soul_n be_v by_o either_o more_o confirm_v and_o establish_v and_o uphold_v and_o keep_v from_o sin_n 3._o by_o quicken_a grace_n which_o be_v when_o god_n do_v inlve_v grace_n by_o quicken_a grace_n our_o grace_n to_o manifest_v themselves_o in_o actual_a opposition_n so_o that_o the_o soul_n shall_v not_o yield_v but_o keep_v off_o from_o entertain_v the_o sin_n as_o when_o in_o the_o motion_n of_o sin_n he_o inflame_v the_o heart_n with_o a_o apprehension_n of_o his_o own_o love_n in_o christ_n and_o then_o excite_v our_o love_n exceed_o unto_o himself_o again_o and_o preparation_n to_o the_o sin_n and_o very_o he_o shall_v be_v much_o keep_v from_o the_o secrecy_n of_o sin_n as_o a_o king_n who_o be_v wise_a to_o keep_v off_o parle_n with_o the_o ambassador_n of_o sin_n i_o mean_v occasion_n which_o do_v negotiate_v with_o the_o soul_n and_o prepare_v it_o to_o lose_v its_o own_o strength_n 5._o by_o do_v grace_n which_o be_v when_o god_n and_o bitterness_n of_o our_o sinning_n do_v not_o this_o show_n that_o it_o be_v a_o difficult_a thing_n to_o repent_v nay_o take_v a_o assay_v of_o thy_o heart_n begin_v the_o study_n of_o thyself_o remember_v thy_o do_n which_o have_v not_o be_v good_a thy_o way_n that_o have_v be_v evil_a summon_v up_o all_o the_o matter_n of_o repentance_n for_o if_o repentance_n be_v true_a it_o must_v be_v a_o universal_a turn_n and_o then_o set_v upon_o the_o work_n of_o repentance_n and_o tell_v i_o whether_o former_a sin_n can_v plead_v hard_o for_o future_a and_o constant_a possession_n whether_o be_v this_o that_o the_o more_o a_o man_n do_v sin_n the_o more_o he_o disable_v himself_o to_o repent_v tell_v i_o serious_o do_v not_o the_o debt_n weaken_v his_o ability_n of_o payment_n by_o great_a engagement_n do_v not_o the_o disease_n consume_v the_o power_n of_o nature_n by_o its_o increase_n why_o what_o be_v that_o which_o spoil_v we_o and_o disarm_v we_o of_o strength_n be_v it_o not_o sin_n then_o the_o more_o sin_v still_o the_o less_o strength_n to_o return_v from_o sin_n nay_o sin_n do_v not_o only_o corrupt_v our_o strength_n by_o multiply_a sinning_n but_o withal_o increase_v its_o own_o strength_n the_o more_o a_o man_n do_v sin_n the_o weak_a and_o weak_a he_o become_v and_o sin_n thereby_o become_v strong_a and_o strong_a now_o tell_v i_o if_o it_o be_v hard_a for_o thou_o in_o strength_n to_o turn_v from_o sin_n will_v it_o not_o be_v hard_o for_o thou_o in_o weakness_n to_o conquer_v strength_n if_o thou_o can_v not_o step_v over_o the_o brook_n why_o do_v imagine_v it_o easy_a to_o stride_v over_o the_o ocean_n if_o thou_o can_v nor_o stand_v before_o the_o child_n think_v thou_o in_o a_o moment_n to_o cast_v down_o the_o strong_a man_n subjection_n be_v peaceable_a there_o dominion_n be_v in_o all_o likelihood_n most_o absolute_a and_o complete_a nay_o this_o be_v certain_a that_o where_o christ_n set_v up_o his_o sceptre_n which_o cast_v down_o the_o dominion_n of_o sin_n there_o be_v the_o great_a stir_n the_o law_n of_o the_o mind_n will_v war_v against_o the_o law_n of_o the_o member_n rom._n 7._o 23._o and_o the_o spirit_n will_v lust_n against_o the_o flesh_n gal._n 5._o 17._o 2._o this_o unsensibleness_n and_o quietness_n may_v arise_v partly_o from_o the_o oneliness_n of_o sin_n and_o partly_o from_o the_o ignorance_n of_o a_o sinful_a condition_n and_o partly_o from_o the_o habitual_a custom_n
holiness_n as_o a_o man_n may_v be_v a_o traitor_n when_o he_o yet_o do_v seem_v to_o do_v something_o of_o the_o service_n to_o a_o prince_n so_o sin_n may_v be_v a_o man_n lord_n though_o he_o do_v do_v many_o thing_n which_o seem_v good_a herod_n love_v herodias_n though_o he_o hear_v john_n baptist_n and_o do_v many_o thing_n glad_o there_o be_v scarce_o any_o man_n where_o christ_n be_v profess_v that_o be_v so_o universal_o bad_a but_o he_o may_v now_o and_o then_o do_v something_o which_o may_v be_v particular_o good_a at_o least_o material_o consider_v 4._o but_o yet_o fourthly_a the_o dominion_n of_o sin_n can_v consist_v with_o holiness_n but_o it_o can_v consist_v with_o the_o love_n of_o holiness_n the_o love_n of_o holiness_n for_o where_o sin_n be_v in_o dominion_n there_o sin_n have_v the_o love_n of_o the_o soul_n now_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o a_o man_n to_o love_v sin_n and_o to_o love_v holiness_n i_o grant_v it_o that_o many_o thing_n may_v be_v the_o object_n of_o love_n though_o there_o be_v a_o numerical_a variety_n of_o they_o yet_o there_o may_v be_v a_o objective_a unity_n they_o may_v all_o meet_v in_o one_o common_a reason_n and_o natural_a course_n of_o love_n and_o therefore_o may_v be_v love_v but_o then_o opposite_a and_o contradictory_n thing_n can_v be_v both_o love_v at_o once_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o you_o can_v reconcile_v they_o into_o a_o objective_a unity_n that_o which_o be_v a_o reason_n of_o the_o love_n in_o one_o be_v a_o reason_n of_o hatred_n in_o the_o other_o now_o sin_n and_o holiness_n be_v opposite_a they_o be_v at_o the_o great_a distance_n in_o spiritual_a contradiction_n their_o nature_n and_o course_n and_o effect_n all_o be_v opposite_a so_o that_o a_o man_n can_v at_o once_o possible_o love_v they_o both_o and_o therefore_o if_o holiness_n and_o grace_n have_v thy_o love_n very_o sin_n have_v not_o dominion_n i_o must_v not_o insist_v at_o large_a on_o this_o only_o observe_v whether_o thou_o love_v holiness_n preciselie_o and_o pure_o for_o itself_o what_o be_v it_o which_o thou_o esteem_v most_o which_o thou_o desire_v most_o be_v the_o want_n of_o it_o thy_o great_a grief_n be_v the_o prosperity_n of_o it_o either_o in_o thyself_o or_o other_o a_o true_a and_o singular_a joy_n unto_o thou_o at_o what_o pain_n be_v thou_o to_o purchase_v and_o increase_v it_o what_o be_v thy_o thought_n of_o they_o who_o be_v holy_a and_o of_o those_o ministry_n which_o edge_n and_o work_n on_o thy_o heart_n most_o unto_o holiness_n these_o and_o such_o like_a thing_n will_v show_v whither_o thou_o love_v holiness_n which_o if_o thou_o do_v thy_o sin_n be_v not_o thy_o lord_n 4._o who_o law_n do_v thou_o approve_v and_o delight_v in_o according_a in_o who_o law_n do_v thou_o approve_v and_o delight_v in_o as_o a_o man_n lord_n be_v so_o be_v his_o law_n and_o according_a as_o the_o man_n be_v so_o be_v his_o mind_n and_o affection_n towards_o those_o law_n of_o that_o lord_n you_o shall_v find_v that_o when_o sin_n have_v dominion_n there_o sin_n have_v several_a law_n several_a command_n the_o obedience_n of_o which_o be_v delightful_a to_o the_o sinner_n and_o therefore_o such_o a_o one_o be_v say_v to_o fulfil_v the_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o to_o commit_v sin_n with_o greediness_n ephes_n 4._o 19_o and_o to_o yield_v himself_o over_o unto_o sin_n thus_o it_o be_v on_o the_o contrary_a where_o sin_n be_v break_v off_o from_o its_o dominion_n and_o christ_n do_v rule_v the_o heart_n his_o law_n have_v a_o marvellous_a suitableness_n will_v thou_o have_v i_o to_o do_v act._n 9_o 6._o obj._n it_o be_v true_a that_o sinful_a corruption_n yet_o abide_v in_o the_o best_a will_v make_v head_n against_o the_o holy_a command_n of_o christ_n it_o will_v be_v backward_o enough_o cross_a enough_o unwilling_a enough_o resist_v and_o strive_v sol._n but_o yet_o three_o thing_n will_v more_o habitual_o appear_v in_o a_o approbation_n approbation_n i_o this_o judgement_n do_v high_o esteem_v of_o the_o command_n of_o christ_n paul_n count_v the_o commandment_n holy_a and_o righteous_a and_o good_a and_o tend_v to_o life_n rom._n 7._o 12._o 2._o another_o be_v consent_n i_o his_o will_n yield_v unto_o it_o as_o to_o a_o rule_n consent_n consent_n most_o sit_v to_o be_v obey_v i_o consent_v unto_o the_o law_n that_o it_o be_v way_n to_o the_o ocean_n and_o thou_o study_v the_o present_a way_n to_o become_v a_o great_a transgressor_n to_o rise_v to_o presumptuous_a sinning_n who_o will_v allow_v thyself_o to_o be_v a_o habitual_o immoderate_a sinner_n second_o take_v heed_n of_o the_o iteration_n of_o any_o sin_n viz._n do_v not_o go_v a_o sin_n over_o and_o over_o of_o all_o transgression_n sin_n take_v heed_n of_o
