liberty_n by_o this_o spirit_n and_o therefore_o if_o we_o will_v keep_v up_o and_o maintain_v our_o spiritual_a liberty_n we_o must_v be_v sure_a to_o keep_v in_o with_o the_o spirit_n if_o we_o grieve_v he_o he_o will_v grieve_v we_o and_o leave_v we_o to_o fight_v with_o our_o own_o strength_n and_o fall_v under_o sin_n and_o so_o come_v to_o bondage_n again_o in_o part_n to_o the_o grief_n and_o wound_v of_o our_o spirit_n some_o of_o we_o alas_o it_o may_v be_v think_v once_o we_o have_v be_v free_a but_o have_v be_v bring_v into_o bondage_n again_o and_o hold_v under_o the_o power_n world_n into_o it_o with_o our_o head_n and_o heart_n full_a of_o it_o the_o stomach_n be_v full_a already_o there_o be_v no_o room_n for_o the_o word_n to_o take_v place_n in_o our_o heart_n and_o we_o be_v much_o for_o hear_v but_o digest_v but_o little_a ah_o brethren_n this_o meditation_n upon_o what_o we_o hear_v we_o be_v all_o of_o we_o short_a in_o that_o be_v the_o man_n that_o grow_v indeed_o as_o in_o the_o first_o psalm_n he_o shall_v flourish_v that_o meditate_v day_n and_o night_n for_o my_o own_o part_n i_o be_o persuade_v that_o upon_o a_o sabbath-day_n it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o how_o much_o we_o hear_v to_o spend_v our_o whole_a time_n in_o it_o that_o there_o be_v no_o time_n leave_v for_o chew_v upon_o it_o for_o work_v it_o upon_o the_o heart_n by_o meditation_n no_o ploughman_n will_v do_v so_o think_v he_o never_o plough_v and_o sow_v enough_o and_o never_o make_v use_v of_o the_o harrow_n alas_o much_o of_o it_o be_v steal_v away_o he_o have_v little_a increase_n we_o go_v â—ow_o out_o of_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n and_o into_o the_o world_n again_o over_o head_n and_o ear_n without_o any_o care_n to_o work_v the_o word_n upon_o our_o soul_n how_o can_v you_o expect_v to_o prosper_v in_o your_o soul_n you_o may_v have_v fat_a purse_n but_o you_o be_v like_a to_o have_v but_o lean_a soul_n you_o digest_v not_o your_o meat_n a_o physician_n will_v tell_v you_o it_o be_v not_o how_o much_o you_o eat_v but_o how_o much_o you_o digest_v that_o tend_v to_o health_n and_o growth_n and_o so_o for_o the_o other_o ordinance_n of_o the_o supper_n there_o be_v meat_n indeed_o and_o drink_v indeed_o but_o do_v we_o look_v to_o it_o to_o improve_v that_o ordinance_n for_o strengtheve_v of_o faith_n to_o 55._o get_v our_o grace_n up_o our_o appetite_n up_o our_o faith_n our_o love_n upon_o the_o wing_n when_o we_o come_v to_o act_v faith_n and_o love_n in_o the_o ordinance_n to_o draw_v from_o the_o lord_n jesus_n to_o drink_v and_o drink_v abundant_o alas_o wisdom_n have_v kill_v her_o beast_n and_o mix_v her_o wine_n and_o furnish_v 9_o her_o table_n among_o we_o and_o we_o come_v indeed_o but_o without_o wedding-garment_n many_o time_n and_o without_o appetite_n and_o so_o we_o be_v cast_v 11._o out_o and_o instead_o of_o receive_v christ_n more_o and_o more_o of_o he_o we_o be_v more_o harden_v satan_n enter_v into_o some_o poor_a soul_n ah_o no_o marvel_n then_o if_o they_o grow_v not_o in_o grace_n if_o we_o have_v not_o the_o fat_a thing_n of_o the_o house_n of_o god_n brethren_n it_o be_v something_o but_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o deny_v they_o to_o we_o his_o table_n be_v rich_o furnish_v the_o dainty_n be_v the_o same_o though_o the_o maiden_n that_o be_v send_v forth_o now_o to_o call_v you_o be_v weak_a and_o unworthy_a that_o shall_v not_o derogate_v from_o the_o esteem_n of_o the_o feast_n now_o what_o can_v we_o say_v for_o ourselves_o if_o we_o will_v play_v with_o our_o meat_n if_o we_o will_v not_o fall_v on_o when_o we_o come_v to_o it_o if_o we_o matter_n not_o for_o digest_v it_o where_o brethren_n will_v the_o guilt_n lie_v o_o be_v humble_v for_o that_o we_o have_v neglect_v this_o salvation_n so_o much_o as_o we_o have_v do_v though_o it_o may_v be_v we_o have_v not_o miss_v a_o opportunity_n yet_o that_o we_o make_v no_o better_a use_n of_o they_o then_o we_o have_v do_v that_o be_v the_o first_o step_n to_o a_o reformation_n of_o it_o do_v you_o think_v this_o be_v a_o please_a carriage_n of_o a_o child_n when_o he_o be_v poor_a and_o lean_a and_o ill-favoured_a his_o father_n provide_v a_o rich_a banquet_n royal_a dainty_n for_o he_o set_v they_o before_o he_o intreat_v he_o to_o fall_v on_o he_o complain_v of_o his_o weakness_n and_o faintness_n and_o yet_o will_v not_o eat_v this_o be_v frowardness_n it_o be_v not_o please_v to_o god_n who_o have_v so_o rich_o provide_v for_o we_o to_o hear_v his_o people_n complain_v always_o of_o their_o weakness_n in_o faith_n and_o weakness_n in_o love_n and_o all_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o though_o he_o have_v provide_v such_o dainty_n for_o they_o in_o his_o ordinance_n as_o never_o eye_n see_v nor_o any_o taste_v but_o a_o believer_n and_o they_o may_v be_v fat_a and_o flourish_a if_o they_o be_v not_o wretched_o want_v to_o themselves_o they_o complain_v and_o complain_v but_o never_o mind_n it_o to_o eat_v to_o feed_v to_o improve_v the_o ordinance_n for_o this_o their_o growth_n i_o have_v speak_v the_o more_o large_o here_o because_o i_o know_v brethren_n i_o know_v it_o be_v our_o own_o wretched_a neglect_n of_o ourselves_o in_o this_o case_n that_o be_v the_o great_a cause_n of_o our_o want_n of_o growth_n five_o another_o help_n shall_v be_v this_o labour_v to_o get_v the_o distemper_n of_o your_o soul_n heal_v that_o hinder_v your_o growth_n it_o be_v impossible_a while_o a_o man_n have_v a_o wolf_n in_o his_o flesh_n or_o a_o greedy_a when_v that_o suck_v all_o the_o nourishment_n from_o the_o body_n that_o he_o shall_v grow_v alas_o every_o one_o of_o we_o can_v best_o tell_v where_o our_o disease_n be_v some_o have_v obstruction_n between_v the_o head_n and_o the_o heart_n the_o passage_n be_v not_o open_v and_o so_o they_o grow_v indeed_o in_o the_o head_n but_o the_o heart_n be_v poor_a and_o dry_a and_o wither_a all_o notion_n and_o no_o affection_n how_o little_a affection_n have_v we_o the_o most_o of_o we_o nothing_o answerable_a to_o what_o we_o apprehend_v of_o the_o riches_n of_o grace_n in_o jesus_n christ_n all_o be_v not_o well_o with_o we_o brethren_n alas_o how_o many_o of_o we_o have_v surfeit_v of_o the_o world_n and_o the_o comfort_n thereoâ—_n and_o so_o our_o appetite_n be_v lose_v to_o these_o dainty_n and_o fat_a thing_n of_o the_o house_n of_o god_n whereby_o we_o shall_v grow_v up_o like_a calf_n of_o the_o stall_n o_o for_o christ_n sake_n and_o as_o you_o love_v your_o soul_n take_v heed_n of_o the_o world_n and_o love_n of_o it_o ah_o we_o little_o know_v how_o close_o it_o stick_v to_o we_o and_o how_o indiscernable_o it_o insinuate_v itself_o upon_o we_o it_o may_v be_v we_o consume_v all_o upon_o our_o lust_n make_v all_o we_o have_v receive_v but_o a_o stepping-stone_n to_o raise_v our_o proud_a spirit_n upon_o how_o apt_a we_o be_v to_o be_v admire_v ourselves_o this_o be_v well_o do_v and_o that_o be_v well_o do_v by_o we_o instead_o of_o admire_v rich_a grace_n to_o such_o poor_a dust_n and_o ash_n as_o we_o be_v this_o dam_v up_o the_o fountain_n brethren_n this_o provoke_v god_n to_o withdraw_v his_o spirit_n and_o presence_n and_o alas_o what_o can_v we_o do_v then_o then_o we_o see_v what_o we_o be_v well_o if_o we_o will_v grow_v we_o must_v begin_v at_o the_o right_a end_n we_o must_v labour_v to_o get_v these_o lust_n that_o do_v prevail_v down_o if_o a_o child_n have_v such_o a_o disease_n as_o the_o rickets_o or_o some_o other_o disease_n upon_o it_o you_o may_v give_v it_o all_o the_o nurse_n and_o tend_v and_o feed_v that_o can_v be_v it_o will_v never_o grow_v uniform_o but_o all_o run_v into_o the_o head_n it_o be_v in_o vain_a to_o complain_v of_o the_o want_n of_o growth_n the_o way_n be_v to_o go_v to_o the_o physician_n get_v some_o prescription_n for_o the_o heal_n of_o the_o disease_n and_o so_o we_o must_v look_v to_o it_o brethren_n if_o any_o object_n come_v between_o the_o lord_n jesus_n and_o your_o heart_n and_o so_o interrupt_v the_o sweet_a and_o save_a influence_n of_o christ_n from_o you_o you_o can_v grow_v you_o see_v that_o shrub_n in_o the_o wilderness_n that_o never_o see_v where_o good_a come_v or_o
ready_a to_o go_v out_o even_o in_o the_o socket_n but_o yet_o afterward_o they_o be_v stir_v up_o they_o trim_v up_o their_o lamp_n shine_v more_o clear_o and_o sweet_o then_o before_o i_o say_v do_v not_o conclude_v therefore_o thou_o be_v no_o child_n of_o god_n because_o it_o be_v not_o altogether_o with_o thou_o as_o it_o have_v be_v thou_o have_v find_v thy_o heart_n much_o more_o large_a towards_o god_n much_o more_o tender_a etc._n etc._n brethren_n we_o may_v lose_v our_o first_o love_n and_o grow_v cold_a and_o dead_a yea_o and_o it_o be_v possible_a 4._o for_o a_o child_n of_o god_n to_o die_v under_o such_o a_o condition_n and_o yet_o not_o miscarry_v in_o the_o main_a though_o it_o be_v not_o so_o comfortable_a for_o he_o nor_o so_o honourable_a for_o god_n therefore_o take_v heed_n of_o conclude_v your_o state_n by_o what_o you_o feel_v at_o present_a it_o may_v be_v some_o temptation_n have_v prevail_v some_o distemper_n be_v upon_o thou_o therefore_o thou_o must_v heal_v that_o get_v that_o remove_v and_o thou_o shall_v see_v thou_o will_v grow_v three_o even_o than_o thou_o may_v be_v grow_v in_o the_o root_n for_o there_o must_v be_v a_o time_n for_o that_o brethren_n when_o we_o be_v least_o in_o ourselves_o and_o see_v we_o be_v nothing_o can_v do_v nothing_o special_o be_v sensible_a of_o it_o o_o how_o this_o humble_v we_o we_o be_v no_o loser_n by_o this_o our_o root_n can_v be_v too_o much_o spread_v nor_o the_o foundation_n too_o much_o strengthen_v this_o drive_v we_o the_o more_o to_o christ_n make_v we_o the_o more_o serious_o inquisitive_a after_o our_o state_n to_o be_v sure_a to_o look_v to_o our_o ground_v and_o establish_v upon_o he_o and_o this_o will_v fit_v we_o for_o further_a growth_n four_o in_o the_o next_o place_n know_v this_o that_o even_o then_o when_o there_o be_v nothing_o appear_v thou_o think_v thou_o be_v nothing_o haste_v nothing_o all_o seem_v to_o be_v wither_v no_o fruit_n appear_v even_o than_o the_o lord_n see_v the_o root_n in_o the_o ground_n though_o we_o see_v it_o not_o he_o take_v notice_n of_o it_o and_o be_v please_v with_o it_o though_o job_n friend_n think_v he_o be_v a_o wither_a branch_n cut_v off_o from_o communion_n with_o god_n yet_o he_o have_v the_o root_n of_o the_o matter_n within_o he_o come_v into_o a_o garden_n in_o the_o summer_n how_o pleasant_a and_o how_o glorious_a it_o be_v furnish_v with_o all_o variety_n of_o plant_n and_o flower_n in_o the_o winter_n there_o be_v nothing_o appear_v they_o be_v under_o ground_n but_o now_o the_o gardener_n he_o know_v what_o root_n he_o have_v there_o though_o they_o appear_v not_o and_o he_o can_v tell_v you_o what_o plant_v he_o shall_v have_v spring_v up_o in_o the_o spring_n and_o he_o be_v choice_n and_o tender_a of_o the_o place_n where_o they_o grow_v as_o if_o they_o do_v appear_v and_o put_v forth_o the_o lord_n know_v if_o there_o be_v but_o the_o root_n of_o the_o matter_n in_o thou_o if_o never_o so_o small_a if_o right_a he_o know_v it_o and_o he_o know_v the_o thought_n afar_o off_o long_o before_o we_o think_v they_o he_o know_v our_o work_n afar_o off_o i_o know_v abraham_n he_o will_v command_v his_o house_n after_o he_o to_o keep_v 19_o my_o commandment_n the_o lord_n know_v what_o sinner_n will_v be_v if_o they_o live_v and_o therefore_o many_o time_n cut_v they_o off_o and_o he_o know_v what_o his_o people_n will_v be_v and_o will_v be_v though_o for_o the_o present_a under_o a_o temptation_n under_o a_o cloud_n and_o seem_v to_o be_v all_o wither_a and_o dry_v up_o be_v this_o nothing_o brethren_n he_o know_v what_o root_n what_o seed_n he_o have_v sow_v in_o the_o heart_n and_o that_o it_o will_v put_v forth_o say_v not_o then_o sure_o thou_o be_v not_o regard_v of_o god_n because_o thou_o do_v not_o appear_v to_o thyself_o to_o grow_v at_o every_o moment_n five_o alas_o but_o you_o will_v say_v if_o i_o do_v come_v on_o thus_o and_o thus_o as_o such_o a_o one_o do_v it_o be_v something_o like_a i_o answer_v it_o be_v good_a to_o follow_v the_o pattern_n of_o fruitful_a and_o growing-christians_a but_o what_o if_o god_n will_v not_o give_v thou_o that_o measure_n that_o he_o give_v another_o what_o if_o thou_o be_v but_o as_o a_o little_a finger_n in_o the_o body_n and_o such_o a_o one_o be_v as_o a_o arm_n can_v thou_o expect_v then_o to_o grow_v as_o much_o as_o such_o a_o one_o be_v not_o he_o wise_a and_o know_v best_a what_o measure_n be_v good_a for_o we_o second_o for_o that_o thy_o desire_n be_v yet_o high_o than_o thy_o growth_n it_o be_v good_a for_o thou_o desire_v growth_n as_o much_o as_o thou_o will_v and_o i_o can_v wish_v your_o desire_n be_v more_o earnest_a for_o then_o your_o endeavour_n will_v be_v more_o answerable_a than_o they_o be_v but_o if_o thy_o desire_n be_v in_o good_a earnest_n and_o thou_o make_v it_o thy_o work_n to_o grow_v and_o come_v on_o and_o yet_o can_v not_o reach_v thy_o desire_n shall_v this_o discourage_v no_o thou_o shall_v be_v encourage_v and_o bless_v the_o lord_n that_o thy_o desire_n be_v keep_v up_o after_o more_o and_o more_o that_o you_o say_v not_o sufficit_fw-la for_o this_o be_v the_o way_n appoint_v of_o god_n for_o growth_n that_o still_o the_o desire_n of_o his_o people_n shall_v be_v uppermost_a and_o for_o my_o own_o part_n i_o think_v there_o be_v not_o a_o better_a sign_n of_o a_o grow_a than_o a_o eager_a stomach_n except_o it_o be_v a_o disease_n which_o can_v hardly_o be_v in_o spiritual_n though_o a_o man_n may_v desire_v also_o to_o hear_v more_o than_o he_o digest_v see_v the_o church_n be_v follow_v christ_n and_o yet_o say_v she_o draw_v i_o i_o will_v run_v we_o go_v after_o thou_o but_o we_o 4._o will_v run_v six_o growth_n be_v not_o sensible_a be_v not_o visible_a until_o afterward_o that_o degree_n which_o be_v in_o the_o motion_n be_v not_o perceive_v until_o afterward_o you_o see_v tree_n and_o plant_n and_o child_n they_o have_v grow_v but_o if_o you_o sit_v by_o they_o set_v your_o eye_n upon_o they_o to_o see_v they_o grow_v and_o can_v discern_v it_o and_o shall_v complain_v alas_o they_o grow_v not_o will_v you_o not_o bewray_v much_o weakness_n so_o it_o be_v in_o this_o case_n a_o merchant_n it_o be_v true_a cast_v up_o his_o daily_a account_n what_o come_v in_o what_o go_v out_o but_o he_o do_v take_v the_o state_n of_o his_o condition_n but_o now_o and_o then_o so_o shall_v we_o though_o daily_o we_o examine_v ourselves_o how_o we_o gain_v or_o lose_v such_o a_o day_n in_o all_o passage_n yet_o to_o examine_v the_o state_n of_o our_o growth_n in_o the_o general_a every_o day_n be_v to_o little_a purpose_n as_o i_o tell_v you_o before_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n come_v not_o with_o observation_n both_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n in_o 27._o the_o administration_n of_o it_o grow_v insensible_o as_o the_o fall_n of_o the_o dew_n from_o the_o womb_n of_o the_o morning_n thou_o how_o it_o be_v vain_a to_o observe_v it_o while_o it_o be_v grow_v but_o afterward_o it_o will_v appear_v seven_o though_o it_o may_v be_v thou_o grow_v not_o in_o affection_n so_o much_o as_o thou_o think_v thou_o may_v grow_v notwithstanding_o in_o the_o understanding_n and_o in_o the_o will_n in_o the_o main_a part_n of_o the_o soul_n for_o the_o passion_n indeed_o they_o be_v the_o low_a part_n and_o yet_o we_o be_v apt_a to_o place_n most_o in_o they_o o_o if_o we_o can_v be_v but_o so_o and_o so_o affect_a 〈◊〉_d a_o rapture_n of_o joy_n a_o melt_a into_o tear_n it_o may_v be_v vigour_n of_o affection_n in_o old_a person_n and_o weak_a and_o sick_a person_n as_o
daub_v and_o heal_v they_o deceitful_o get_v it_o skin_v over_o a_o little_a and_o so_o the_o world_n will_v do_v it_o building_n and_o plant_v and_o marry_v and_o drink_v and_o pastime_n these_o may_v skin_n over_o the_o wound_n but_o it_o heal_v not_o and_o miserable_a be_v the_o condition_n of_o poor_a creature_n so_o delude_v but_o now_o they_o that_o be_v teach_v of_o god_n and_o learn_v they_o learn_v this_o effectual_o and_o practical_o that_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o the_o creature_n that_o can_v do_v it_o four_o they_o learn_v this_o also_o that_o though_o all_o the_o world_n be_v love_n but_o as_o a_o cloud_n without_o rain_n when_o the_o soul_n be_v a_o fire_n a_o well_o without_o water_n a_o break_a cistern_n that_o leak_v out_o all_o a_o torrent_n a_o brook_n that_o be_v dry_v up_o when_o the_o soul_n be_v parch_v and_o burn_v up_o with_o the_o scorch_a heat_n of_o the_o displeasure_n of_o god_n o_o when_o the_o lord_n set_v a_o soul_n in_o his_o sight_n and_o look_n upon_o he_o as_o a_o consume_a fire_n with_o his_o eye_n as_o a_o flame_a fire_n ready_a with_o a_o 4._o sight_n of_o he_o to_o devour_v he_o and_o he_o can_v get_v out_o of_o his_o sight_n o_o now_o the_o world_n all_o their_o comfort_n will_v not_o screen_n they_o from_o his_o eye_n but_o what_o will_n only_o the_o lord_n jesus_n he_o can_v be_v a_o cool_a shadow_n to_o shadow_v we_o plague_n i_o will_v cure_v you_o all_o o_o then_o if_o poor_a creature_n do_v believe_v this_o be_v persuade_v of_o it_o they_o will_v come_v and_o not_o before_o o_o say_v one_o i_o be_v a_o plague_n
