will_v not_o at_o other_o time_n he_o will_v cast_v away_o all_o sin_n and_o fain_o perform_v all_o good_a duty_n with_o all_o constancy_n but_o he_o find_v something_o within_o resist_v and_o rebel_a and_o he_o will_v not_o be_v so_o good_a but_o still_o in_o conclusion_n either_o soon_o or_o late_a the_o sanctify_a part_n get_v the_o better_a of_o the_o unsanctified_a the_o desire_n and_o subdue_v and_o crucify_v those_o carnal_a affection_n of_o he_o i_o confess_v there_o be_v a_o miserable_a stir_n &_o a_o troublesome_a discord_n in_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o unsanctified_a man_n betwixt_o the_o light_n of_o the_o conscience_n and_o the_o corruption_n of_o the_o will_n this_o hale_v he_o forward_o to_o diverse_a wickedness_n and_o that_o draw_v back_o but_o the_o difference_n betwixt_o the_o natural_a combat_n and_o the_o spiritual_a be_v so_o manifest_a that_o no_o good_a man_n which_o have_v feel_v they_o both_o can_v choose_v but_o see_v how_o to_o distinguish_v they_o one_o from_o the_o other_o unregenerate_a the_o d_o fference_n betwixt_o the_o combat_n of_o the_o fl_fw-mi sh_n and_o spirit_n and_o the_o opposition_n of_o the_o conscience_n &_o the_o corrupt_a will_n in_o the_o unregenerate_a indeed_o they_o be_v evident_o distinguish_v in_o five_o thing_n 1._o in_o the_o faculty_n that_o oppose_v each_o other_o 2._o in_o the_o thing_n about_o which_o they_o quarrel_n 3._o in_o the_o motive_n of_o the_o opposition_n 4._o in_o the_o mean_n of_o resistance_n and_o five_o in_o the_o issue_n thereof_o first_o in_o the_o unregenerate_a the_o will_n be_v whole_o carry_v after_o sin_n alone_o the_o conscience_n make_v a_o clamorous_a gainsay_n and_o suffer_v not_o the_o will_v to_o go_v on_o in_o its_o evil_a course_n uncontrolled_a he_o will_v with_o all_o his_o heart_n commit_v wickedness_n but_o he_o dare_v not_o not_o so_o the_o regenerate_a in_o he_o not_o the_o conscience_n alone_o stand_v out_o against_o sin_n but_o the_o will_n itself_o be_v divide_v in_o part_n hang_v one_o way_n in_o part_z another_z he_o will_v not_o do_v evil_a not_o alone_o he_o dare_v not_o and_o the_o act_n of_o the_o will_n set_v against_o its_o own_o corruption_n by_o its_o own_o holiness_n be_v far_o different_a from_o the_o act_n of_o the_o conscience_n oppose_v the_o will_n that_o remain_v whole_o corrupt_v see_v it_o in_o a_o comparison_n a_o hungry_a dog_n have_v a_o strong_a appetite_n to_o be_v devour_v some_o meat_n that_o stand_v before_o he_o but_o at_o the_o same_o time_n he_o see_v a_o man_n stand_v by_o with_o a_o cudgel_n to_o strike_v he_o if_o he_o touch_v it_o now_o his_o appetite_n be_v altogether_o to_o the_o meat_n but_o he_o be_v fear_v and_o overawed_n by_o the_o sight_n of_o the_o man_n that_o be_v ready_a to_o strike_v he_o so_o be_v it_o with_o the_o unsanctified_a man_n sin_n be_v his_o food_n his_o will_n be_v whole_o carry_v to_o it_o but_o the_o conscience_n hold_v as_o it_o be_v a_o cudgel_n over_o he_o threaten_v to_o strike_v if_o he_o taste_v wherefore_o what_o with_o a_o full_a desire_n he_o will_v do_v he_o forbear_v in_o act_n to_o perform_v affright_v by_o those_o clamour_n but_o now_o a_o man_n disease_v see_v some_o food_n to_o which_o his_o appetite_n incline_v but_o he_o know_v it_o hurtful_a for_o his_o body_n and_o therefore_o though_o his_o will_n draw_v by_o his_o sense_n sometime_o move_v he_o to_o be_v taste_v yet_o the_o same_o will_n inform_v by_o reason_n do_v prevail_v in_o he_o to_o be_v unwilling_a and_o out_o of_o such_o unwillingnes_n to_o forbear_v so_o be_v by_o those_o that_o be_v infamous_a among_o man_n as_o in_o perjury_n murder_n adultery_n theft_n false_a witness_n bear_v and_o such_o like_a for_o small_a evil_n and_o such_o as_o the_o world_n little_a account_n of_o though_o know_v and_o confess_v to_o be_v sin_n the_o natural_a conscience_n be_v content_a to_o dispense_v and_o daub_v and_o daily_o and_o give_v easy_a way_n to_o the_o do_v of_o they_o upon_o a_o thousand_o fond_a shift_n and_o pretence_n but_o now_o the_o regenerate_a man_n will_n so_o far_o as_o it_o be_v regenerate_v be_v in_o combat_n against_o its_o own_o that_o be_v disallow_v for_o of_o he_o it_o be_v true_o say_v that_o he_o work_v none_o iniquity_n three_o the_o natural_a conscience_n use_v the_o motive_n or_o restraint_n rather_o of_o fear_n of_o shame_n of_o danger_n among_o man_n at_o the_o best_a and_o most_o of_o destruction_n and_o damnation_n from_o god_n and_o by_o threaten_v these_o thing_n sometime_o somewhat_o terrible_o it_o to_o the_o word_n to_o spiritual_a meditation_n as_o weapon_n whereby_o to_o mortify_v evil_a lust_n and_o to_o restrain_v the_o will_n from_o consent_v only_o it_o follow_v he_o with_o its_o own_o vehement_a check_n and_o reluctation_n in_o diverse_a troublesome_a and_o confuse_a thought_n but_o the_o sanctification_n of_o the_o will_n oppose_v its_o corruption_n by_o prayer_n by_o the_o word_n by_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n jesus_n and_o by_o the_o hope_n of_o eternity_n for_o have_v this_o hope_n he_o purge_v himself_o as_o christ_n be_v pure_a so_o the_o unsanctified_a man_n when_o he_o will_v do_v evil_a and_o dare_v not_o be_v toss_v and_o tumble_v from_o place_n to_o place_n now_o think_v of_o one_o thing_n now_o of_o another_o wish_v to_o follow_v his_o own_o inclination_n but_o want_v boldness_n and_o if_o he_o do_v any_o thing_n to_o help_v himself_o it_o be_v to_o get_v he_o into_o some_o company_n that_o perhaps_o may_v ease_v he_o a_o while_n but_o the_o sanctify_a when_o he_o find_v this_o distraction_n of_o his_o will_n usual_o seek_v out_o some_o secret_a place_n tell_v himself_o of_o god_n commandment_n of_o god_n love_n of_o christ_n suffering_n for_o he_o ask_v himself_o if_o he_o can_v find_v in_o his_o heart_n so_o much_o to_o offend_v so_o good_a

ability_n as_o follow_v the_o temperature_n of_o the_o body_n the_o sanctify_a man_n perhaps_o may_v want_v and_o if_o nature_n have_v not_o bestow_v it_o upon_o he_o he_o must_v want_v it_o for_o grace_n do_v not_o add_v a_o great_a natural_a perfection_n to_o the_o power_n of_o man_n soul_n but_o alone_o make_v the_o perfection_n it_o have_v straight_o and_o right_a and_o guide_v they_o to_o he_o can_v retain_v good_a thing_n according_a to_o that_o strength_n of_o retainement_n which_o nature_n afford_v he_o but_o that_o that_o he_o do_v retain_v and_o here_o indeed_o he_o show_v his_o memory_n to_o be_v sanctify_v he_o have_v at_o hand_n for_o the_o benefit_n of_o his_o soul_n in_o due_a season_n fruitful_o recall_v it_o in_o the_o instant_n of_o tentation_n in_o the_o very_a time_n of_o need_n when_o it_o may_v avail_v he_o to_o resist_v sinful_a suggestion_n of_o satan_n or_o the_o flesh_n and_o to_o quicken_v he_o against_o his_o backwardness_n and_o unwillingnes_n to_o come_v both_o to_o one_o sermon_n it_o be_v make_v against_o filthiness_n or_o covetousness_n or_o any_o vice_n as_o it_o fall_v out_o the_o unsanctified_a man_n may_v perhaps_o be_v able_a to_o repeat_v ten_o time_n more_o and_o more_o orderly_a than_o the_o sanctify_a this_o be_v a_o fruit_n of_o nature_n not_o of_o grace_n but_o when_o some_o time_n be_v past_a and_o that_o both_o shall_v hear_v what_o a_o sin_n this_o be_v have_v i_o not_o be_v teach_v how_o it_o displease_v god_n so_o by_o this_o his_o holy_a remembrance_n the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v available_a to_o keep_v he_o from_o sin_v or_o at_o least_o after_o to_o raise_v he_o up_o to_o the_o renew_n of_o his_o repentance_n and_o so_o you_o see_v the_o holiness_n of_o a_o christian_a man_n memory_n affection_n 3_o in_o his_o affection_n three_o his_o affection_n be_v also_o sanctify_v and_o set_v in_o good_a order_n by_o the_o virtue_n which_o the_o holy_a ghost_n infuse_v into_o he_o the_o principal_a affection_n be_v love_n and_o hatred_n fear_n and_o confidence_n joy_n and_o sorrow_n all_o these_o be_v enable_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n with_o a_o new_a power_n of_o exercise_v themselves_o steadfast_o solid_o irresistible_o bend_v itself_o to_o be_v one_o with_o he_o that_o this_o inclination_n many_o time_n do_v overweigh_v and_o over-rule_v all_o other_o inclination_n in_o he_o and_o sometime_o he_o can_v but_o even_o break_v forth_o into_o word_n profess_v so_o much_o to_o himself_o as_o david_n i_o love_v the_o lord_n and_o call_v upon_o other_o say_v love_v you_o the_o lord_n wish_v with_o all_o the_o wish_n of_o his_o soul_n that_o himself_o and_o all_o other_o might_n more_o and_o more_o love_v the_o lord_n a_o sanctify_a heart_n stand_v affect_v towards_o god_n even_o as_o the_o lover_n do_v to_o the_o person_n he_o love_v and_o he_o have_v though_o not_o so_o passionate_a because_o the_o object_n be_v spiritual_a yet_o as_o true_a and_o as_o perceivable_a a_o work_n of_o his_o heart_n to_o god_n as_o one_o lover_n have_v to_o the_o other_o and_o as_o to_o god_n so_o he_o be_v likewise_o endue_v with_o charity_n to_o god_n people_n the_o like_n of_o his_o heart_n be_v to_o they_o above_o all_o other_o man_n he_o find_v his_o heart_n move_v with_o good_a will_n to_o none_o so_o much_o as_o to_o the_o saint_n if_o he_o perceive_v the_o beam_n of_o god_n image_n shine_v that_o be_v to_o he_o as_o good_a and_o better_a than_o twenty_o year_n acquaintance_n yea_o it_o surpass_v all_o name_n of_o blood_n and_o alliance_n who_o he_o see_v godly_a he_o he_o prize_v above_o all_o other_o man_n in_o truth_n this_o charity_n do_v then_o show_v its_o warmth_n when_o almost_o the_o breath_n of_o grace_n be_v choke_v by_o vice_n of_o diverse_a kind_n though_o some_o particular_a breach_n may_v cause_v a_o little_a jar_a of_o affection_n between_o a_o godly_a man_n and_o another_o who_o he_o persuade_v himself_o to_o fear_n god_n also_o yet_o he_o sometime_o to_o be_v strong_a sometime_o weak_a and_o he_o be_v true_o disquiet_v with_o the_o vice_n that_o be_v opposite_a to_o these_o virtue_n as_o with_o disease_n of_o body_n and_o with_o the_o infirmity_n of_o these_o grace_n as_o with_o weakness_n of_o his_o leg_n and_o arm_n when_o he_o shall_v employ_v himself_o in_o any_o work_n or_o business_n his_o knowledge_n of_o god_n be_v obscure_v with_o ignorance_n and_o often_o assail_v with_o objection_n his_o faith_n in_o god_n and_o in_o his_o word_n have_v its_o faint_n his_o conscience_n feel_v some_o prick_v of_o guiltiness_n his_o will_n be_v not_o without_o its_o rebellious_a motion_n his_o thought_n be_v dull_a to_o god_n often_o time_n and_o his_o memory_n be_v turn_v to_o other_o thing_n with_o the_o neglect_v of_o god_n his_o love_n be_v cold_a his_o fear_n be_v change_v into_o a_o kind_n of_o stupidity_n his_o confidence_n be_v shake_v his_o joy_n weaken_v and_o to_o his_o seem_a little_a less_o than_o dead_a and_o his_o grief_n be_v even_o stop_v and_o the_o stream_n of_o his_o tear_n dry_v up_o or_o divert_v but_o alack_o he_o find_v this_o so_o to_o be_v and_o be_v vex_v at_o it_o he_o perceive_v it_o and_o discern_v it_o with_o pain_n and_o dislike_n and_o he_o can_v tell_v well_o that_o sometime_o it_o have_v be_v otherwise_o with_o he_o and_o why_o be_v he_o thus_o now_o why_o be_v he_o so_o
