than_o be_v now_o we_o see_v thing_n now_o but_o in_o a_o very_a dim_a and_o a_o dark_a light_n as_o i_o have_v often_o tell_v you_o we_o be_v in_o the_o foul_a and_o in_o the_o dark_a place_n of_o the_o apostasy_n yet_o the_o time_n be_v near_o at_o hand_n when_o every_o thing_n shall_v be_v see_v in_o its_o full_a light_n and_o in_o its_o glorious_a appearance_n and_o representation_n and_o then_o though_o it_o be_v a_o day_n of_o terror_n to_o all_o wicked_a profane_a and_o dissolute_a person_n under_o general_a profession_n of_o christianity_n and_o though_o it_o be_v a_o terrible_a day_n also_o to_o virgin_n that_o have_v oil_n in_o their_o vessel_n that_o be_v who_o make_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o their_o profession_n and_o have_v no_o truth_n of_o grace_n it_o will_v be_v terrible_a to_o they_o when_o they_o come_v to_o find_v themselves_o so_o sad_o benight_a and_o darken_a in_o the_o very_a heaven_n of_o their_o profession_n as_o the_o expression_n be_v in_o the_o prophet_n their_o very_a lamp_n go_v out_o in_o obscure_a darkness_n yet_o it_o be_v a_o day_n of_o rejoice_v and_o a_o day_n of_o glory_n in_o itself_o and_o what_o great_a reason_n have_v we_o earnest_o to_o pray_v every_o one_o for_o ourselves_o and_o for_o they_o that_o be_v in_o such_o a_o dark_a and_o hopeless_a condition_n that_o they_o have_v not_o so_o much_o as_o lamp_n even_o those_o that_o be_v under_o the_o profession_n of_o christianity_n and_o yet_o be_v in_o such_o a_o case_n now_o i_o say_v in_o regard_n to_o the_o hopeless_a state_n of_o all_o those_o and_o that_o we_o who_o have_v a_o clear_a light_n of_o the_o gospel_n break_v out_o may_v have_v more_o of_o the_o power_n we_o have_v reason_n to_o pray_v for_o the_o approach_n of_o that_o time_n when_o the_o kingdom_n of_o this_o world_n shall_v be_v proclaim_v to_o be_v the_o kingdom_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o of_o his_o christ_n when_o the_o spirit_n shall_v be_v pour_v out_o upon_o we_o from_o on_o high_a and_o the_o everlasting_a gospel_n shall_v be_v preach_v to_o every_o nation_n and_o tongue_n and_o people_n under_o heaven_n o_o that_o our_o heart_n be_v earnest_a for_o this_o time_n and_o the_o lord_n come_v sermon_n ii_o on_o matth._n xxv_o ver._n 1._o and_o so_o on_o then_o shall_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n be_v liken_v unto_o ten_o virgin_n which_o take_v their_o lamp_n and_o treasure_n of_o oil_n in_o the_o vessel_n and_o when_o it_o come_v to_o the_o great_a upshot_a and_o result_v their_o lamp_n quick_o go_v out_o they_o fail_v even_o in_o the_o very_a time_n and_o so_o they_o be_v for_o ever_o shut_v out_o from_o the_o glory_n and_o the_o joy_n and_o the_o happiness_n of_o the_o solemnity_n of_o the_o wedding_n have_v lay_v out_o this_o point_n in_o the_o particular_n of_o the_o parable_n i_o come_v to_o the_o first_o particular_a and_o that_o be_v to_o tell_v you_o that_o the_o kingdom_n of_o jesus_n christ_n be_v throughout_o from_o first_o to_o last_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n whether_o you_o consider_v it_o in_o the_o preach_a of_o the_o gospel_n it_o be_v the_o open_n of_o heaven_n and_o of_o the_o great_a counsel_n of_o the_o eternal_a wisdom_n of_o god_n in_o the_o heaven_n or_o whether_o you_o consider_v it_o as_o it_o come_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o every_o particular_a christian_a so_o it_o be_v the_o power_n of_o heaven_n enable_v they_o to_o set_v such_o a_o value_n upon_o jesus_n christ_n that_o all_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n be_v of_o no_o account_n compare_v with_o the_o pearl_n of_o great_a price_n or_o whether_o you_o consider_v it_o in_o the_o last_o glorious_a appearance_n of_o this_o kingdom_n so_o it_o be_v heaven_n it_o be_v not_o a_o state_n that_o do_v so_o much_o as_o pretend_v to_o any_o sensual_a enjoyment_n to_o any_o worldly_a satisfaction_n to_o any_o of_o the_o grandeur_n of_o this_o world_n or_o the_o delight_n of_o it_o but_o it_o be_v perfect_a heaven_n it_o be_v heaven_n throughout_o this_o i_o have_v speak_v of_o and_o so_o i_o shall_v not_o add_v any_o thing_n to_o it_o i_o come_v to_o a_o second_o particular_a in_o this_o general_n and_o that_o be_v to_o let_v you_o know_v from_o the_o representation_n our_o saviour_n have_v here_o give_v that_o the_o very_a intent_n of_o christianity_n the_o great_a design_n and_o purport_n of_o it_o be_v this_o it_o be_v a_o preparation_n to_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o jesus_n christ_n as_o the_o great_a bridegroom_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o as_o the_o bridegroom_n of_o his_o church_n for_o so_o it_o be_v say_v here_o these_o virgin_n they_o take_v their_o lamp_n that_o be_v as_o soon_o as_o ever_o they_o begin_v to_o make_v a_o profession_n of_o christ_n and_o a_o profession_n of_o christianity_n immediate_o in_o that_o very_a moment_n they_o have_v a_o eye_n to_o the_o bridegroom_n so_o that_o this_o be_v the_o great_a purport_n of_o christianity_n that_o we_o shall_v have_v a_o spiritual_a marriage-union_n with_o jesus_n christ_n and_o in_o order_n to_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o he_o in_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o kingdom_n as_o the_o bridegroom_n of_o our_o soul_n it_o be_v a_o very_a great_a emphasis_n and_o weight_n that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n have_v put_v upon_o this_o resemblance_n or_o similitude_n of_o the_o marriage_n union_n between_o christ_n and_o the_o soul_n and_o between_o christ_n and_o his_o church_n and_o if_o i_o shall_v be_v any_o thing_n able_a to_o declare_v and_o to_o open_v it_o to_o you_o at_o this_o time_n in_o the_o spirituality_n of_o it_o and_o thereby_o solicit_v and_o draw_v the_o affection_n of_o every_o one_o of_o we_o to_o jesus_n christ_n i_o shall_v in_o some_o measure_n answer_v that_o which_o john_n the_o baptist_n represent_v john_n 3._o 29._o he_o that_o have_v the_o bride_n be_v the_o bridegroom_n but_o the_o friend_n of_o the_o bridegroom_n which_o stand_v and_o hear_v he_o rejoice_v great_o because_o of_o the_o of_o justice_n in_o the_o hand_n of_o divine_a wrath_n and_o indignation_n when_o it_o find_v itself_o in_o all_o its_o impurity_n and_o in_o all_o its_o unholiness_n without_o he_o it_o come_v then_o to_o desire_v he_o to_o receive_v his_o offer_n to_o unite_v with_o he_o now_o this_o be_v not_o only_o by_o way_n as_o some_o it_o may_v be_v have_v insist_v upon_o it_o by_o way_n of_o preparation_n but_o it_o run_v throughout_o all_o the_o present_a state_n a_o true_a christian_a be_v continual_o look_v upon_o himself_o as_o a_o captive_n it_o be_v not_o a_o thing_n of_o preparation_n only_o i_o say_v if_o it_o be_v not_o so_o how_o be_v it_o possible_a that_o you_o can_v say_v that_o christ_n be_v i_o and_o i_o be_o he_o and_o therefore_o look_v well_o to_o it_o and_o have_v a_o jealous_a eye_n as_o the_o apostle_n say_v i_o be_o jealous_a over_o you_o with_o a_o godly_a jealousy_n so_o we_o shall_v be_v all_o jealous_a over_o our_o own_o heart_n and_o the_o motion_n of_o our_o eye_n to_o see_v whether_o there_o be_v such_o a_o faithfulness_n to_o jesus_n christ_n as_o aught_o to_o be_v when_o the_o church_n be_v subject_a to_o christ_n as_o the_o most_o excellent_a and_o virtuous_a woman_n and_o wife_n be_v to_o the_o most_o honourable_a and_o worthy_a husband_n there_o be_v not_o any_o thing_n then_o that_o can_v or_o aught_o or_o be_v possible_a to_o come_v between_o our_o soul_n and_o jesus_n christ_n and_o if_o we_o cry_v out_o alas_o we_o be_v not_o able_a hereunto_o we_o do_v not_o find_v this_o i_o shall_v after_o by_o the_o grace_n and_o assistance_n of_o god_n press_v upon_o you_o every_o such_o discovery_n of_o the_o remain_a defection_n and_o falseness_n of_o our_o heart_n it_o shall_v make_v we_o cry_v out_o earnest_o come_v apostle_n speak_v by_o way_n of_o allusion_n to_o this_o very_a thing_n in_o the_o 1_o cor._n 6._o latter_a end_n but_o he_o that_o be_v join_v to_o the_o lord_n be_v one_o spirit_n that_o be_v in_o regard_n of_o the_o present_a state_n of_o flesh_n and_o blood_n there_o will_v be_v some_o wander_n of_o heart_n but_o the_o spirit_n be_v steadfast_a and_o jealous_a over_o those_o unholy_a and_o impure_a motion_n towards_o sin_n flesh_n and_o the_o world_n and_o it_o gather_v itself_o back_o and_o it_o humble_v itself_o and_o it_o bewail_v itself_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o trayterousness_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o corrupt_a part_n wherein_o it_o do_v any_o way_n behave_v itself_o unworthy_o towards_o jesus_n christ_n that_o saviour_n of_o itself_o he_o be_v the_o saviour_n of_o the_o body_n and_o therefore_o the_o church_n be_v subject_a to_o he_o and_o then_o 2._o in_o the_o second_o place_n it_o shall_v teach_v we_o very_o vehement_o to_o look_v and_o cry_v out_o for_o that_o time_n of_o free_a and_o full_a enjoyment_n of_o christ_n i_o wonder_v we_o shall_v not_o be_v earnest_o desirous_a when_o i_o consider_v the_o reason_n the_o necessity_n and_o the_o great_a obligation_n which_o lie_v upon_o we_o i_o wonder_v we_o be_v not_o more_o earnest_a to_o die_v and_o to_o be_v with_o christ_n we_o be_v apt_a to_o think_v there_o be_v a_o state_n of_o the_o world_n ordain_v wherein_o we_o shall_v have_v such_o and_o such_o enjoyment_n and_o bear_v up_o ourselves_o for_o a_o time_n while_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n we_o forget_v jesus_n christ_n but_o hereafter_o it_o will_v be_v endeavour_v to_o be_v make_v plain_a in_o this_o discourse_n that_o either_o to_o go_v out_o of_o the_o body_n and_o to_o be_v with_o jesus_n christ_n in_o spirit_n or_o to_o have_v the_o whole_a frame_n of_o this_o world_n unpin_v and_o disjointed_a one_o part_n from_o another_o that_o there_o may_v come_v that_o glorious_a kingdom_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o that_o marriage_n of_o the_o lamb_n and_o come_v down_o of_o that_o new-jerusalem_n and_o ourselves_o as_o a_o part_n of_o it_o as_o a_o bride_n adorn_v for_o her_o husband_n be_v the_o inward_a groan_n of_o every_o saint_n these_o thing_n shall_v be_v sweet_a to_o we_o and_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v gulp_v down_o by_o the_o present_a temptation_n of_o the_o world_n which_o have_v so_o much_o force_n because_o our_o heart_n be_v not_o steady_a to_o christ_n o_o let_v we_o look_v earnest_o for_o that_o love_n which_o many_o water_n can_v quench_v nor_o the_o flood_n drown_v and_o if_o we_o find_v that_o we_o excellency_n of_o christianity_n that_o be_v necessary_a to_o the_o perfection_n and_o to_o the_o glory_n of_o it_o in_o this_o present_a state_n but_o here_o it_o be_v otherwise_o and_o it_o be_v to_o this_o very_a purpose_n that_o none_o of_o we_o may_v rest_v in_o a_o outward_a profession_n and_o therefore_o we_o may_v observe_v the_o several_a particular_n under_o this_o virgin-state_n that_o our_o lord_n have_v represent_v first_o of_o all_o that_o five_o be_v wise_a and_o five_o be_v foolish_a and_o then_o in_o the_o second_o place_n wherein_o the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o one_o and_o folly_n of_o the_o other_o consist_v the_o wisdom_n be_v in_o take_v oil_n in_o the_o vessel_n with_o their_o lamp_n the_o folly_n be_v in_o take_v no_o oil_n with_o they_o but_o only_o in_o their_o lamp_n but_o think_v to_o make_v a_o shift_n as_o we_o say_v with_o what_o be_v in_o the_o profession_n in_o the_o three_o place_n we_o have_v the_o consideration_n of_o their_o behaviour_n or_o of_o their_o state_n in_o the_o time_n between_o the_o preach_a of_o the_o gospel_n first_o and_o then_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o nuptial_n while_o the_o bridegroom_n tarry_v they_o all_o slumber_v and_o sleep_v i_o must_v indeed_o let_v you_o know_v that_o i_o interpret_v this_o otherwise_o than_o the_o generality_n of_o those_o that_o have_v speak_v or_o write_v upon_o it_o have_v do_v for_o this_o slumber_v and_o sleep_v i_o do_v not_o look_v upon_o as_o the_o same_o that_o they_o be_v in_o a_o spiritual_a slumber_n not_o sleep_n but_o i_o look_v upon_o it_o only_o as_o suitable_a to_o the_o parable_n to_o be_v a_o representation_n of_o the_o die_a of_o those_o that_o make_v profession_n of_o christianity_n that_o be_v throughout_o the_o time_n that_o great_a space_n of_o time_n between_o those_o two_o point_n viz._n the_o fullness_n of_o time_n and_o the_o fullness_n of_o all_o time_n there_o be_v many_o go_v out_o of_o the_o world_n many_o of_o those_o that_o be_v virgin_n in_o their_o profession_n and_o they_o then_o slumber_v then_o sleep_v that_o be_v they_o have_v die_v and_o go_v out_o of_o the_o world_n in_o this_o state_n of_o profession_n now_o the_o reason_n that_o i_o give_v why_o i_o shall_v so_o interpretet_fw-la be_v this_o because_o it_o be_v very_o plain_a by_o what_o our_o saviour_n speak_v that_o the_o wise_a virgin_n do_v never_o spiritual_o sleep_v they_o be_v not_o in_o a_o spiritual_a sleep_n that_o be_v it_o be_v not_o the_o character_n of_o their_o state_n and_o therefore_o i_o look_v upon_o it_o only_o thus_o as_o solomon_n say_v they_o have_v come_v and_o go_v from_o the_o place_n of_o judgement_n so_o i_o say_v they_o have_v come_v and_o go_v out_o of_o the_o state_n of_o the_o world_n and_o the_o profession_n of_o christianity_n and_o they_o have_v enter_v into_o a_o state_n which_o to_o we_o that_o be_v here_o in_o the_o world_n look_v like_o midnight_n sleep_v as_o now_o if_o we_o speak_v of_o the_o apostle_n that_o have_v die_v they_o have_v as_o it_o be_v deep_o sleep_v ever_o since_o the_o time_n that_o they_o go_v out_o of_o the_o world_n and_o so_o the_o saint_n that_o we_o have_v know_v here_o in_o the_o world_n and_o power_n of_o christianity_n and_o then_o in_o the_o four_o place_n here_o be_v the_o case_n and_o the_o state_n of_o these_o virgin_n upon_o the_o come_n of_o the_o bridegroom_n at_o midnight_n there_o be_v a_o cry_n make_v behold_v the_o bridegroom_n come_v go_v you_o forth_o to_o meet_v he_o and_o that_o i_o look_v upon_o to_o be_v intend_v of_o the_o resurrection_n that_o voice_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n that_o they_o that_o be_v in_o the_o grave_n shall_v hear_v and_o they_o that_o hear_v shall_v live_v and_o they_o shall_v come_v forth_o out_o of_o their_o grave_n the_o wise_a and_o the_o foolish_a virgin_n they_o die_v alike_o and_o they_o come_v forth_o out_o of_o their_o grave_n that_o be_v both_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o rise_v again_o and_o appear_v before_o their_o great_a entertainment_n they_o be_v in_o the_o night_n and_o so_o every_o one_o do_v as_o it_o be_v bring_v their_o lamp_n here_o be_v the_o curious_a colour_n and_o art_n of_o the_o parable_n or_o the_o picture_n every_o person_n that_o come_v to_o those_o night-entertainment_n which_o be_v their_o great_a as_o i_o tell_v you_o they_o bring_v with_o they_o a_o lamp_n a_o light_n to_o stand_v by_o they_o and_o that_o so_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o feast_n or_o of_o the_o entertainment_n may_v arise_v from_o those_o many_o light_n that_o be_v shine_v together_o that_o every_o one_o bring_v now_o therefore_o say_v christ_n the_o foolish_a virgin_n come_v with_o their_o lamp_n and_o they_o have_v no_o oil_n they_o have_v no_o oil_n to_o bear_v out_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o feast_n the_o glory_n of_o the_o wedding_n of_o that_o great_a nuptial_a the_o marriage-supper_n of_o the_o lamb_n as_o it_o be_v call_v rev._n 19_o so_o as_o soon_o as_o ever_o they_o find_v the_o want_n of_o oil_n they_o be_v in_o a_o amazement_n they_o be_v immediate_o upon_o the_o earnest_a pursuit_n and_o care_n of_o the_o supply_n of_o that_o want_n when_o they_o find_v we_o shall_v use_n shall_v be_v holiness_n to_o jehovah_n but_o if_o one_o treat_v of_o this_o way_n or_o that_o way_n one_o find_v that_o the_o glory_n of_o it_o do_v not_o sparkle_v and_o glister_v as_o it_o shall_v i_o speak_v not_o what_o i_o speak_v from_o my_o own_o spirit_n but_o what_o god_n will_v speedy_o make_v good_a to_o all_o those_o that_o shall_v live_v in_o that_o time_n then_o they_o begin_v to_o cry_v out_o and_o say_v jesus_n thou_o son_n of_o david_n have_v mercy_n on_o i_o and_o many_o charge_v he_o that_o he_o shall_v hold_v his_o peace_n they_o will_v not_o have_v he_o make_v such_o ado_n after_o christ_n but_o he_o cry_v the_o more_o a_o great_a deal_n thou_o son_n of_o david_n have_v mercy_n on_o i_o and_o jesus_n stand_v still_o and_o command_v he_o to_o be_v to_o holiness_n where_o shall_v we_o have_v they_o but_o from_o christ_n it_o be_v not_o intend_v that_o you_o shall_v be_v negligent_a of_o humiliation_n or_o sense_n of_o sin_n or_o sorrow_n for_o it_o or_o resolution_n for_o holiness_n but_o the_o question_n be_v where_o shall_v we_o have_v these_o now_o i_o say_v we_o can_v have_v they_o not_o where_o but_o from_o christ_n from_o the_o first_o item_n of_o come_v to_o god_n even_o from_o first_o to_o last_o to_o a_o everlasting_a happiness_n it_o be_v from_o god_n it_o be_v from_o christ_n he_o call_v all_o those_o who_o soul_n be_v move_v and_o those_o that_o have_v have_v no_o more_o sense_n of_o these_o thing_n heretofore_o than_o the_o very_a stone_n and_o stock_n than_o the_o very_a heathen_a and_o pagan_n to_o all_o these_o i_o say_v if_o christ_n do_v but_o move_v and_o stir_v you_o fly_v you_o to_o he_o and_o say_v if_o i_o perish_v i_o will_v perish_v here_o i_o know_v nothing_o in_o my_o want_n of_o everlasting_a and_o the_o nail_n we_o hang_v it_o upon_o will_v certain_o be_v cut_v down_o or_o remove_v for_o the_o lord_n have_v speak_v it_o all_o our_o lamp_n that_o shine_v in_o their_o own_o light_n they_o will_v go_v out_o in_o that_o day_n at_o the_o appearance_n of_o christ_n like_o spark_n that_o we_o compass_v ourselves_o with_o of_o our_o own_o kindle_v all_o that_o do_v so_o shall_v lie_v down_o in_o sorrow_n the_o last_o objection_n be_v but_o how_o shall_v we_o know_v that_o we_o be_v in_o christ_n can_v we_o discern_v it_o any_o otherwise_o than_o by_o the_o mark_n and_o sign_n of_o no_o not_o in_o our_o own_o sanctification_n do_v it_o come_v to_o we_o but_o it_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o the_o son_n and_o it_o be_v a_o sure_a testimony_n of_o its_o glorify_v christ_n in_o take_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v christ_n and_o give_v to_o we_o even_o in_o its_o testimony_n you_o may_v say_v this_o may_v deceive_v we_o and_o we_o do_v know_v whether_o it_o be_v the_o spirit_n or_o not_o observe_v what_o the_o apostle_n say_v in_o 1_o john_n 5._o speaking_z of_o the_o witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n latter_a part_n of_o the_o 6_o verse_n and_o the_o witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v truth_n why_o do_v he_o say_v the_o witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v truth_n but_o to_o meet_v with_o the_o thing_n that_o be_v in_o our_o heart_n that_o we_o be_v ready_a to_o say_v there_o be_v other_o good_a witness_n we_o dare_v not_o believe_v the_o spirit_n alone_o but_o we_o have_v other_o good_a witness_n and_o we_o must_v bring_v they_o in_o and_o if_o they_o say_v so_o too_o than_o we_o may_v believe_v the_o spirit_n or_o else_o not_o now_o the_o apostle_n say_v the_o witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v truth_n to_o let_v we_o know_v there_o be_v a_o separate_a single_a witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n that_o be_v true_a i_o know_v no_o reason_n at_o all_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v afraid_a to_o affirm_v this_o for_o if_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n dwell_v as_o general_o the_o best_a and_o most_o judicious_a discourser_n of_o these_o thing_n allow_v if_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n dwell_v in_o we_o why_o shall_v it_o be_v strange_a that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n shall_v whisper_v its_o witness_n in_o this_o way_n and_o the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o this_o very_a witness_n when_o he_o say_v the_o witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v true_a but_o then_o in_o the_o second_o place_n i_o do_v acknowledge_v this_o free_o and_o abundant_o that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n do_v make_v use_n of_o this_o or_o that_o particular_a grace_n or_o holiness_n in_o general_n in_o a_o saint_n of_o christ_n as_o he_o please_v sometime_o he_o witness_v only_o by_o himself_o sometime_o by_o such_o and_o such_o grace_n and_o why_o not_o because_o the_o grace_n themselves_o be_v alone_o able_a to_o bear_v up_o the_o witness_n that_o i_o plain_o deny_v but_o then_o the_o spirit_n witness_v not_o only_o of_o grace_n of_o faith_n of_o repentance_n and_o holiness_n etc._n etc._n but_o as_o they_o be_v in_o christ_n faith_n and_o love_n in_o christ_n jesus_n and_o as_o they_o be_v make_v up_o of_o his_o righteousness_n and_o flow_v from_o his_o death_n resurrection_n and_o intercession_n and_o here_o be_v that_o that_o i_o say_v to_o you_o christ_n take_v any_o grace_n of_o his_o servant_n and_o show_v it_o at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n not_o as_o it_o be_v out_o of_o himself_o but_o as_o it_o be_v in_o himself_o and_o in_o his_o own_o righteousness_n and_o by_o his_o spirit_n he_o now_o show_v to_o any_o of_o his_o servant_n any_o of_o their_o grace_n but_o not_o as_o out_o of_o christ_n but_o as_o in_o christ_n surround_v make_v up_o fill_v up_o with_o his_o righteousness_n as_o i_o remember_v the_o expression_n in_o the_o book_n of_o exodus_fw-la where_o the_o jewel_n that_o be_v in_o the_o urim_n and_o thummim_n in_o the_o breastplate_n of_o the_o highpriest_n their_o set_n be_v call_v fill_v up_o they_o be_v fill_v up_o in_o the_o gold_n the_o receptacle_n and_o lodging_n of_o they_o be_v fill_v up_o exod._n 28._o so_o i_o say_v in_o every_o grace_n there_o be_v the_o fill_v up_o of_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n take_v all_o the_o grace_n of_o paul_n and_o of_o peter_n or_o any_o of_o the_o servant_n of_o christ_n and_o if_o they_o have_v not_o be_v set_v in_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n if_o there_o be_v not_o a_o fill_v up_o by_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n they_o will_v all_o come_v to_o nought_o and_o therefore_o they_o be_v fill_v up_o with_o his_o righteousness_n and_o so_o i_o do_v acknowledge_v that_o it_o may_v be_v that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n may_v give_v his_o servant_n a_o witness_n and_o a_o testimony_n from_o their_o own_o grace_n and_o so_o in_o 1_o john_n 4._o 17._o herein_o say_v he_o be_v our_o love_n make_v perfect_a that_o we_o may_v have_v boldness_n in_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n because_o as_o he_o be_v so_o be_v we_o in_o this_o world_n be_v nothing_o but_o man_n that_o be_v speak_v of_o the_o weakness_n of_o man_n all_o that_o can_v be_v say_v say_v he_o you_o have_v nothing_o but_o weak_a frail_a man_n and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n speak_v of_o christ_n there_o be_v nothing_o to_o be_v say_v but_o this_o he_o be_v all_o all_o in_o all_o we_o be_v nothing_o here_o be_v the_o sum_n of_o the_o matter_n we_o be_v nothing_o all_o that_o be_v in_o we_o be_v nothing_o all_o that_o god_n or_o his_o spirit_n have_v wrought_v in_o we_o it_o be_v nothing_o if_o you_o can_v take_v it_o out_o of_o christ_n it_o will_v be_v a_o lamp_n put_v out_o in_o obscure_a darkness_n carry_v this_o constant_o upon_o your_o thought_n he_o that_o have_v the_o son_n have_v life_n and_o he_o that_o have_v not_o the_o son_n of_o god_n have_v not_o life_n we_o rest_v upon_o nothing_o when_o we_o rest_v upon_o ourselves_o let_v we_o
man_n that_o be_v look_v upon_o as_o a_o religious_a man_n and_o that_o make_v a_o great_a figure_n in_o the_o world_n and_o that_o god_n have_v blessed_v now_o this_o man_n live_v so_o sober_a in_o regard_n of_o all_o the_o commandment_n in_o outward_a act_n all_o these_o commandment_n have_v i_o keep_v from_o my_o youth_n up_o one_o will_v think_v it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o such_o a_o man_n shall_v not_o go_v to_o heaven_n and_o yet_o say_v christ_n very_o i_o say_v unto_o you_o with_o relation_n to_o this_o lovely_a young_a man_n it_o be_v a_o hard_a thing_n for_o a_o rich_a man_n to_o enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n certain_o he_o do_v not_o come_v up_o to_o that_o be_v proper_o the_o virgin-state_n in_o the_o acknowledgement_n of_o christ_n however_o he_o be_v of_o unspotted_a unblameable_a external_a conversation_n he_o have_v too_o a_o acknowledgement_n of_o christ_n as_o a_o very_a excel_v man_n and_o a_o great_a master_n of_o divine_a knowledge_n but_o he_o have_v not_o a_o sense_n of_o his_o divine_a glory_n nor_o the_o very_a power_n of_o christianity_n so_o as_o to_o grasp_v the_o inside_n of_o it_o to_o lay_v hold_v upon_o the_o very_a spirit_n and_o life_n of_o it_o as_o in_o christ_n and_o so_o to_o divest_v himself_o of_o every_o thing_n for_o chrst_n if_o call_v to_o it_o nay_o he_o be_v unwilling_a to_o own_o and_o follow_v christ_n in_o the_o very_a outward_a profession_n and_o herein_o he_o come_v short_a of_o the_o foolish_a virgin_n who_o yet_o fall_v short_a of_o heaven_n and_o therefore_o christ_n preach_v upon_o he_o this_o general_a doctrine_n how_o hard_o be_v it_o for_o a_o rich_a man_n to_o enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n in_o the_o three_o place_n i_o may_v name_v to_o you_o the_o man_n of_o tradition_n the_o man_n of_o superstition_n that_o look_v upon_o it_o as_o their_o glory_n and_o security_n for_o heaven_n to_o add_v many_o thing_n to_o the_o command_v of_o god_n and_o of_o christ_n as_o if_o they_o either_o exceed_v or_o make_v more_o perfect_a or_o more_o beautiful_a decent_a and_o honourable_a the_o religion_n of_o divine_a institution_n by_o their_o own_o superadd_v observation_n but_o this_o need_v not_o to_o be_v much_o insist_v upon_o because_o christ_n have_v declare_v from_o the_o word_n of_o god_n in_o the_o old_a testament_n by_o the_o prophet_n esay_n this_o people_n draw_v nigh_o to_o i_o with_o their_o lip_n but_o their_o heart_n be_v far_o from_o i_o but_o in_o vain_a do_v they_o worship_v i_o teach_v for_o doctrine_n the_o commandment_n of_o man_n matth._n 15_o etc._n etc._n but_o now_o these_o virgin_n as_o they_o hold_v the_o truth_n so_o the_o purity_n of_o the_o worship_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o be_v also_o of_o a_o unblameable_a outward_a conversation_n as_o be_v before_o open_v concern_v the_o virgin_n state_n from_o all_o this_o we_o may_v plain_o perceive_v it_o be_v a_o very_a nice_a case_n to_o distinguish_v either_o in_o doctrine_n or_o in_o practice_n between_o virginity_n enliven_v with_o wisdom_n and_o virginity_n that_o have_v the_o dead_a fly_n of_o folly_n in_o it_o i_o come_v therefore_o to_o the_o three_o head_n of_o discourse_n to_o give_v you_o the_o reason_n of_o this_o even_o tremendous_a dispensation_n of_o god_n that_o there_o shall_v be_v virgin_n and_o yet_o foolish_a virgin_n for_o to_o speak_v the_o very_a bottom_n and_o foundation_n of_o the_o matter_n this_o resemblance_n of_o our_o lord_n of_o the_o case_n of_o soul_n or_o spirit_n not_o accept_v by_o christ_n compare_v with_o the_o apostle_n expression_n of_o present_v they_o as_o chaste_a virgin_n to_o christ_n and_o yet_o that_o some_o virgin_n present_v to_o he_o he_o charge_v according_a to_o those_o expression_n in_o job_n with_o folly_n it_o seem_v to_o carry_v a_o allusion_n in_o a_o spiritual_a sense_n to_o that_o case_n deut._n 24._o 1_o etc._n etc._n those_o that_o be_v espouse_v as_o virgin_n to_o christ_n and_o yet_o they_o be_v not_o clean_o in_o his_o sight_n they_o be_v for_o ever_o eternal_o separate_v from_o he_o even_o divorce_v from_o he_o he_o send_v they_o a_o renunciation_n a_o bill_n of_o divorcement_n from_o himself_o this_o be_v dreadful_o stupendous_a these_o two_o account_n i_o will_v give_v hereof_o according_a to_o scripture_n why_o there_o be_v such_o a_o severity_n of_o the_o gospel_n towards_o those_o who_o be_v virgin_n and_o be_v find_v foolish_a virgin_n 1._o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n will_v hereby_o remonstrate_v to_o we_o the_o great_a corruption_n and_o depravation_n of_o human_a nature_n we_o do_v not_o enough_o apprehend_v what_o a_o nature_n and_o what_o heart_n thereupon_o we_o carry_v about_o we_o heart_n deceitful_a above_o all_o thing_n and_o desperate_o wicked_a who_o can_v know_v they_o it_o be_v strange_a so_o excellent_a so_o pure_a a_o thing_n as_o a_o virgin_n state_n shall_v be_v defile_v and_o make_v whole_o unacceptable_a to_o christ_n by_o folly_n our_o lord_n therefore_o hereby_o call_v upon_o we_o to_o be_v aware_a what_o nature_n and_o heart_n we_o bear_v about_o with_o we_o since_o that_o very_a time_n that_o god_n make_v man_n upright_o in_o knowledge_n wisdom_n righteousness_n and_o true_a holiness_n and_o he_o defile_v his_o nature_n with_o the_o folly_n of_o many_o invention_n the_o nature_n of_o man_n taint_v and_o defile_v every_o thing_n even_o virginity_n itself_o though_o not_o by_o a_o false_a religion_n a_o false_a worship_n or_o gross_o pollute_a conversation_n yet_o by_o the_o folly_n of_o insincerity_n and_o want_v of_o the_o treasure_n of_o grace_n stand_v in_o union_n to_o christ_n this_o shall_v carry_v we_o to_o fear_v our_o own_o heart_n bless_a be_v the_o man_n that_o fear_v always_o but_o he_o that_o trust_v in_o his_o own_o heart_n be_v a_o fool_n he_o deceive_v himself_o as_o the_o apostle_n james_n say_v many_o way_n seem_v right_a enough_o in_o our_o own_o eye_n but_o the_o issue_n and_o end_v thereof_o be_v death_n let_v we_o therefore_o as_o the_o apostle_n peter_n warn_v pass_v the_o time_n of_o our_o sojourn_v here_o in_o fear_n and_o as_o the_o apostle_n paul_n say_v be_v jealous_a over_o ourselves_o least_o while_o we_o think_v we_o present_v ourselves_o as_o chaste_a virgin_n to_o christ_n that_o we_o be_v espouse_v to_o he_o there_o shall_v be_v any_o corruption_n from_o the_o simplicity_n that_o be_v in_o christ_n jesus_n christ_n be_v one_o most_o single_a simple_a jesus_n without_o multiplicity_n as_o in_o doctrine_n and_o worship_n so_o in_o our_o union_n to_o he_o whoever_o miss_v he_o in_o that_o uncompounded_a faith_n and_o undivided_a affection_n defile_v the_o virgin-state_n and_o lose_v the_o glory_n and_o purity_n of_o it_o you_o may_v be_v virgin_n as_o to_o the_o chastity_n of_o profession_n and_o outward_a conversation_n and_o yet_o you_o may_v loose_v the_o wisdom_n of_o virginity_n if_o there_o be_v not_o a_o singleness_n of_o eye_n and_o heart_n to_o christ_n which_o can_v be_v but_o in_o union_n to_o himself_o from_o thence_o arise_v the_o simplicity_n that_o be_v in_o christ_n and_o our_o conformity_n to_o it_o a_o second_o reason_n why_o so_o severe_a and_o dreadful_a a_o dispensation_n be_v offer_v to_o you_o in_o this_o parable_n that_o i_o shall_v now_o give_v you_o be_v that_o we_o may_v learn_v three_o great_a lesson_n from_o it_o it_o be_v not_o to_o discourage_v or_o beat_v you_o off_o from_o your_o profession_n but_o that_o you_o may_v bow_v down_o your_o ear_n and_o heart_n to_o these_o three_o thing_n 1._o that_o you_o may_v depend_v upon_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o elect_v love_n every_o one_o ought_v to_o humble_v himself_o and_o to_o lie_v in_o the_o dust_n before_o god_n in_o the_o sense_n of_o this_o it_o be_v not_o of_o he_o that_o will_v or_o of_o he_o that_o run_v but_o of_o god_n that_o show_v mercy_n and_o who_o be_v thou_o oh_o man_n that_o reply_v against_o god_n all_o this_o speak_v the_o necessity_n of_o lie_v low_o before_o god_n in_o the_o sense_n of_o this_o supreme_a grace_n and_o what_o can_v tend_v more_o thus_o to_o humble_v we_o that_o to_o consider_v virgin_n may_v be_v virgin_n and_o yet_o foolish_a virgin_n this_o shall_v make_v we_o look_v to_o a_o love_n and_o grace_n above_o and_o beyond_o any_o thing_n in_o ourselves_o or_o that_o be_v wrought_v in_o ourselves_o we_o shall_v keep_v our_o eye_n on_o this_o the_o apostle_n after_o the_o description_n of_o the_o antichristian_a apostasy_n retire_v to_o election_n god_n have_v choose_v we_o to_o salvation_n this_o be_v not_o to_o draw_v off_o our_o mind_n from_o any_o of_o those_o grace_n that_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o election_n but_o to_o carry_v up_o our_o mind_n above_o
