be_v this_o when_o you_o come_v to_o this_o see_v the_o bread_n break_v and_o the_o wine_n pour_v out_o you_o have_v a_o occasion_n to_o meditate_v of_o the_o whole_a new_a covenant_n the_o covenant_n have_v the_o same_o thing_n in_o substance_n but_o administer_v in_o a_o dark_a way_n and_o many_o difference_n there_o be_v but_o now_o when_o we_o hear_v of_o the_o new_a testament_n there_o be_v present_v unto_o we_o all_o the_o riches_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o way_n of_o a_o legacy_n and_o in_o the_o administration_n of_o it_o with_o clearness_n and_o with_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o mercy_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n the_o terror_n and_o harshness_n of_o the_o old_a administration_n be_v take_v away_o now_o these_o be_v the_o meditation_n by_o which_o we_o shall_v labour_v to_o sanctify_v our_o heart_n when_o we_o be_v receive_v of_o the_o sacrament_n and_o in_o the_o work_n of_o these_o meditation_n upon_o our_o heart_n we_o shall_v come_v to_o sanctify_v covenant_n now_o the_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n be_v believe_v and_o be_v save_v it_o be_v therefore_o appoint_v for_o believer_n and_o as_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o be_v a_o seal_n suppose_v a_o covenant_n so_o none_o can_v have_v this_o covenant_n seal_v to_o they_o but_o those_o that_o do_v first_o submit_v to_o it_o and_o be_v bring_v into_o covenant_n when_o you_o and_o i_o have_v find_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n work_v my_o heart_n to_o jesus_n christ_n the_o lord_n from_o heaven_n speak_v to_o i_o and_o i_o send_v a_o answer_n to_o heaven_n again_o how_o willing_a my_o soul_n be_v to_o accept_v of_o the_o covenant_n which_o the_o lord_n have_v make_v with_o poor_a creature_n in_o the_o word_n of_o his_o gospel_n can_v thou_o say_v this_o in_o the_o uprightness_n of_o thy_o heart_n if_o not_o know_v that_o this_o seal_n belong_v not_o to_o thou_o until_o the_o lord_n have_v by_o his_o word_n subdue_v thy_o heart_n to_o this_o agreement_n first_o then_o sure_o there_o must_v be_v grace_n before_o what_o nourishment_n can_v a_o dead_a child_n take_v the_o very_o first_o thing_n that_o be_v to_o be_v do_v be_v nourishment_n here_o the_o word_n that_o must_v sit_v at_o his_o table_n therefore_o they_o must_v be_v holy_a now_o this_o may_v suffice_v for_o that_o first_o thing_n that_o this_o be_v not_o a_o ordinance_n for_o all_o sort_n of_o people_n but_o such_o as_o have_v submit_v to_o the_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n before_o such_o as_o have_v grace_n and_o ability_n to_o examine_v themselves_o of_o their_o grace_n and_o such_o as_o be_v child_n and_o reconcile_v to_o god_n and_o so_o be_v fit_a to_o sit_v at_o the_o table_n of_o god_n and_o to_o enjoy_v communion_n with_o he_o and_o with_o his_o son_n and_o with_o the_o saint_n for_o we_o be_v one_o body_n sacramental_o when_o we_o come_v to_o this_o holy_a ordinance_n all_o other_o therefore_o certain_o be_v to_o be_v keep_v from_o this_o sacrament_n but_o seal_v with_o three_o or_o four_o hundred_o seal_n it_o may_v be_v but_o yet_o for_o thy_o comfort_n while_o thou_o be_v alive_a it_o be_v possible_a that_o these_o seal_n may_v be_v break_v open_a as_o we_o read_v in_o the_o revelation_n that_o john_n see_v the_o book_n that_o have_v seven_o seal_n upon_o it_o and_o none_o can_v be_v find_v that_o be_v able_a to_o open_v it_o at_o length_n the_o lamb_n that_o be_v slay_v he_o be_v find_v worthy_a to_o open_v the_o book_n so_o i_o say_v thy_o condemnation_n be_v seal_v up_o with_o many_o seal_n and_o there_o be_v no_o creature_n that_o be_v able_a to_o cancel_v these_o seal_n only_o the_o lamb_n jesus_n christ_n yea_o that_o christ_n who_o blood_n thou_o have_v shed_v and_o be_v guilty_a of_o only_o he_o be_v worthy_a and_o he_o the_o separate_n of_o a_o thing_n from_o a_o common_a use_n i_o be_o to_o worship_n god_n now_o i_o must_v labour_v to_o separate_v my_o heart_n from_o a_o common_a use_n at_o other_o time_n god_n that_o regard_n it_o be_v holy_a and_o so_o we_o shall_v look_v upon_o it_o as_o not_o to_o have_v our_o outward_a business_n to_o devour_v that_o time_n that_o be_v holy_a in_o that_o regard_n as_o nehemiah_n when_o tobiah_n and_o sanballat_n send_v to_o he_o to_o come_v and_o confer_v with_o they_o no_o say_v he_o i_o can_v go_v for_o the_o work_n be_v great_a that_o i_o have_v to_o do_v so_o we_o must_v not_o entangle_v ourselves_o to_o meddle_v with_o other_o thing_n when_o we_o be_v to_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n for_o our_o work_n be_v great_a the_o four_o thing_n for_o preparation_n sense_n that_o be_v we_o shall_v watch_v over_o our_o heart_n that_o they_o be_v not_o let_v out_o so_o far_o as_o to_o hinder_v we_o in_o prayer_n when_o we_o come_v to_o do_v it_o i_o remember_v that_o tertullian_n say_v that_o the_o christian_n do_v so_o sup_v as_o if_o that_o they_o be_v to_o pray_v so_o when_o thou_o be_v in_o company_n thou_o shall_v watch_v unto_o prayer_n oh_o that_o you_o do_v so_o you_o can_v but_o be_v conscious_a to_o yourselves_o that_o oftentimes_o when_o you_o have_v be_v in_o company_n your_o heart_n have_v be_v put_v out_o of_o tune_n and_o frame_v that_o you_o have_v be_v no_o way_n fit_a for_o prayer_n when_o you_o come_v home_o your_o house_n and_o family_n find_v it_o so_o you_o that_o take_v such_o delight_n in_o company_n and_o fit_v up_o late_o i_o appeal_v to_o your_o conscience_n whither_o you_o can_v come_v home_o and_o find_v yourselves_o fit_a either_o in_o your_o family_n or_o closet_n to_o go_v and_o open_v your_o heart_n to_o god_n this_o be_v one_o note_v by_o the_o way_n whereby_o you_o may_v come_v to_o know_v whither_o you_o have_v be_v immoderate_a in_o company_n at_o any_o time_n god_n give_v not_o man_n liberty_n to_o be_v busy_a in_o any_o outward_a occasion_n in_o the_o world_n so_o as_o to_o unfit_a they_o for_o his_o service_n preparation_n consist_v in_o that_o in_o watch_v over_o your_o heart_n that_o you_o may_v not_o be_v unfit_a for_o any_o holy_a duty_n when_o god_n call_v you_o to_o it_o but_o that_o you_o may_v be_v ready_a even_o to_o every_o good_a work_n the_o five_o be_v this_o preparation_n consist_v in_o the_o readiness_n of_o the_o faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n present_o to_o act_v upon_o the_o set_n upon_o a_o holy_a duty_n when_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n shall_v find_v the_o faculty_n of_o their_o soul_n and_o the_o grace_n that_o be_v in_o they_o to_o be_v ready_a to_o act_v as_o soon_o as_o ever_o they_o fall_v upon_o duty_n just_a as_o you_o see_v a_o company_n of_o ringer_n when_o they_o have_v make_v all_o preparation_n for_o the_o raise_n of_o the_o bell_n then_o in_o a_o instant_n when_o they_o begin_v to_o pull_v all_o the_o bell_n go_v in_o that_o tune_n that_o according_a to_o their_o skill_n they_o set_v they_o in_o and_o so_o it_o shall_v be_v with_o our_o heart_n the_o faculty_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o grace_n though_o now_o we_o be_v not_o upon_o duty_n yet_o we_o shall_v be_v so_o ready_a that_o as_o it_o be_v upon_o a_o pull_n all_o the_o faculty_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n spirit_n shall_v work_v in_o a_o melodious_a way_n there_o be_v those_o that_o keep_v their_o heart_n so_o prepare_v as_o at_o the_o very_a first_o moment_n that_o they_o set_v about_o the_o duty_n of_o worship_n all_o faculty_n and_o grace_n begin_v to_o act_v and_o to_o stir_v and_o be_v work_v towards_o god_n as_o a_o fire_n when_o all_o the_o matter_n be_v ready_a lay_v present_o it_o come_v to_o be_v kindle_v and_o flame_n out_o and_o thus_o it_o shall_v be_v with_o our_o heart_n so_o that_o now_o you_o see_v wherein_o preparation_n of_o our_o heart_n to_o duty_n consi_v the_o next_o thing_n be_v the_o excellency_n of_o
find_v that_o the_o next_o time_n you_o will_v commit_v it_o with_o more_o freedom_n and_o so_o one_o sin_n will_v prepare_v for_o another_o and_o it_o may_v be_v you_o have_v some_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n at_o first_o but_o the_o next_o time_n you_o will_v have_v less_o trouble_n till_o at_o length_n you_o can_v commit_v it_o free_o without_o any_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n at_o all_o as_o it_o be_v in_o sin_n so_o it_o be_v in_o godliness_n many_o time_n in_o some_o degree_n at_o the_o first_o you_o have_v a_o motion_n to_o a_o holy_a duty_n but_o through_o the_o stir_n of_o your_o corruption_n you_o be_v not_o fit_a for_o it_o now_o do_v you_o but_o break_v through_o that_o difficulty_n and_o the_o next_o time_n you_o will_v be_v more_o fit_a and_o the_o next_o time_n after_o that_o you_o will_v be_v more_o fit_a and_o so_o still_o more_o and_o more_o fit_a as_o it_o be_v in_o sin_n if_o a_o man_n when_o he_o have_v some_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n will_v but_o listen_v to_o his_o conscience_n and_o will_v not_o commit_v that_o sin_n his_o conscience_n will_v grow_v strong_a upon_o he_o and_o strengthen_v he_o against_o that_o sin_n so_o if_o any_o man_n or_o woman_n listen_v to_o the_o temptation_n to_o defer_v duty_n and_o put_v it_o off_o because_o they_o be_v not_o prepare_v why_o after_o that_o the_o corruption_n will_v grow_v more_o strong_a therefore_o set_v upon_o the_o duty_n and_o the_o performance_n of_o one_o duty_n will_v prepare_v for_o another_o 4_o in_o the_o four_o place_n while_o man_n and_o woman_n be_v struggle_v with_o their_o soul_n and_o the_o corruption_n of_o their_o heart_n and_o do_v not_o fall_v upon_o seek_v god_n they_o by_o their_o very_a struggle_v to_o prepare_v themselves_o many_o time_n do_v ensnare_v themselves_o it_o may_v be_v thou_o have_v thought_n of_o atheism_n or_o other_o wickedness_n the_o very_a struggle_v with_o those_o thought_n may_v ensnare_v thy_o heart_n now_o the_o better_a way_n be_v to_o fall_v upon_o prayer_n and_o to_o cry_v to_o god_n to_o help_v thou_o again_o they_o for_o while_o thou_o be_v struggle_v and_o strive_v with_o those_o thought_n thou_o be_v strive_v with_o the_o corruption_n of_o thy_o heart_n and_o with_o the_o devil_n all_o alone_a but_o now_o when_o thou_o fall_v to_o the_o duty_n thou_o call_v in_o the_o help_n of_o god_n and_o of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o that_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n better_o while_o thou_o be_v muse_v plod_a &_o trouble_v thy_o heart_n that_o way_n i_o say_v thou_o be_v struggle_v alone_o but_o now_o when_o thou_o fall_v upon_o the_o duty_n than_o thou_o call_v in_o help_n from_o god_n and_o so_o thou_o be_v more_o able_a to_o the_o performance_n of_o the_o duty_n than_o thou_o be_v before_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v the_o best_a way_n to_o fall_v upon_o a_o duty_n though_o thou_o can_v not_o find_v thy_o heart_n prepare_v as_o thou_o do_v desire_v the_o very_a fall_n upon_o it_o will_v fit_v thou_o for_o it_o and_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o answer_n unto_o those_o two_o case_n of_o conscience_n now_o than_o we_o be_v to_o proceed_v further_o in_o the_o open_n of_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n thus_o much_o for_o the_o preparation_n of_o the_o heart_n but_o when_o the_o heart_n come_v to_o it_o in_o what_o manner_n shall_v the_o duty_n be_v perform_v so_o as_o the_o name_n of_o god_n may_v be_v sanctify_v in_o the_o duty_n or_o what_o be_v the_o behaviour_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n when_o it_o be_v in_o the_o very_a act_n of_o the_o duty_n to_o that_o â—_o answer_v first_o in_o general_a thus_o when_o the_o soul_n labour_v to_o perform_v duty_n so_o as_o god_n may_v have_v such_o glory_n from_o the_o duty_n as_o be_v fit_a for_o a_o god_n to_o have_v in_o some_o measure_n then_o do_v i_o sanctify_v god_n name_n you_o will_v say_v this_o be_v a_o very_a hard_a thing_n to_o perform_v a_o duty_n so_o as_o that_o we_o shall_v give_v god_n the_o glory_n that_o be_v fit_a for_o a_o god_n to_o have_v certain_o this_o be_v not_o do_v by_o every_o manner_n of_o performance_n of_o a_o duty_n of_o worship_n yet_o you_o shall_v hear_v this_o open_v to_o you_o and_o i_o hope_v you_o shall_v have_v it_o make_v very_o plain_a before_o you_o first_o therefore_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o that_o when_o we_o be_v to_o perform_v a_o duty_n of_o worship_n we_o shall_v set_v ourselves_o to_o glorify_v god_n as_o a_o god_n that_o be_v to_o do_v it_o in_o that_o manner_n that_o god_n may_v have_v that_o glory_n that_o be_v fit_a for_o a_o god_n to_o have_v as_o now_o in_o the_o duty_n of_o praise_n psa_n 66._o 2._o make_v his_o praise_n glorious_a that_o be_v do_v it_o so_o as_o you_o may_v lift_v up_o his_o name_n into_o the_o very_a image_n of_o his_o spirit_n 2_o second_o if_o man_n be_v act_v by_o natural_a part_n they_o will_v not_o carry_v they_o through_o difficulty_n and_o discouragement_n but_o now_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n if_o thou_o have_v act_v by_o he_o though_o thou_o do_v meet_v with_o never_o such_o difficulty_n &_o discouragement_n thou_o will_v be_v carry_v through_o they_o all_o 3_o poor_a thing_n thou_o be_v not_o able_a to_o see_v a_o excellency_n in_o holy_a duty_n except_o there_o be_v a_o excellency_n of_o natural_a part_n but_o those_o that_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n they_o can_v find_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n act_v in_o other_o though_o they_o have_v not_o such_o natural_a part_n 4_o those_o that_o be_v act_v by_o their_o natural_a part_n in_o secret_a they_o be_v mighty_o enlarge_v in_o holy_a duty_n and_o the_o thing_n be_v good_a for_o they_o to_o make_v use_n of_o their_o part_n but_o how_o ordinary_a be_v it_o that_o after_o a_o few_o year_n they_o be_v dead_a and_o dull_a than_o they_o be_v before_o and_o have_v less_o mind_n to_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n than_o they_o have_v former_o be_v this_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n you_o will_v find_v as_o much_o savour_n and_o relish_v in_o they_o afterward_o as_o there_o be_v at_o that_o time_n second_o for_o natural_a conscience_n which_o sometime_o put_v man_n upon_o act_v of_o duty_n and_o indeed_o be_v better_a than_o mere_o natural_a part_n 1_o if_o it_o be_v only_o natural_a conscience_n it_o put_v upon_o duty_n but_o give_v no_o strength_n to_o do_v they_o but_o when_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n put_v thou_o upon_o a_o duty_n it_o give_v thou_o some_o strength_n to_o perform_v it_o some_o strength_n whereby_o thou_o get_v some_o communion_n with_o god_n 2_o if_o it_o be_v natural_a conscience_n it_o put_v upon_o the_o duty_n but_o make_v not_o the_o heart_n glad_a of_o the_o duty_n and_o to_o love_v the_o duty_n but_o if_o it_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n it_o make_v thou_o to_o delight_v in_o it_o and_o to_o love_v it_o 3_o three_o if_o it_o be_v natural_a conscience_n thou_o do_v not_o by_o that_o increase_n thy_o communion_n with_o god_n thou_o do_v thy_o duty_n as_o in_o a_o round_a but_o now_o when_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n put_v thou_o upon_o holy_a duty_n it_o be_v not_o a_o task_n do_v but_o thou_o find_v more_o and_o more_o increase_n in_o communion_n with_o god_n thy_o heart_n more_o raise_v to_o god_n and_o more_o close_v with_o the_o lord_n and_o so_o still_o more_o and_o more_o in_o the_o course_n of_o thy_o life_n i_o have_v a_o little_a converse_n with_o god_n at_o first_o when_o god_n begin_v to_o acquaint_v my_o soul_n with_o his_o way_n but_o through_o his_o mercy_n now_o i_o find_v more_o communion_n with_o he_o in_o holy_a duty_n for_o all_o the_o world_n other_o have_v their_o companion_n that_o they_o have_v their_o communion_n withal_o much_o good_a may_v do_v they_o but_o the_o lord_n have_v show_v i_o another_o manner_n of_o communion_n which_o my_o soul_n can_v have_v with_o himself_o in_o which_o it_o have_v sweet_a satisfaction_n and_o thus_o you_o have_v have_v seven_o particular_n for_o the_o no_o kind_n of_o evil_a end_n in_o he_o no_o evil_a design_n at_o all_o but_o he_o be_v willing_a to_o hearken_v to_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a so_o a_o good_a heart_n whatsoever_o be_v good_a he_o be_v ready_a to_o entertain_v if_o it_o be_v a_o good_a thing_n his_o heart_n be_v suitable_a to_o it_o and_o run_v present_o unto_o it_o have_v a_o good_a heart_n it_o do_v present_o close_a with_o the_o good_a word_n of_o the_o lord_n but_o what_o be_v mean_v by_o a_o honest_a heart_n by_o honesty_n of_o heart_n certain_o there_o be_v more_o mean_v than_o such_o a_o one_o that_o we_o call_v a_o honest_a man_n that_o be_v a_o man_n that_o be_v honest_a in_o his_o deal_n between_o man_n and_o man_n there_o be_v many_o a_o man_n that_o be_v account_v a_o very_a honest_a man_n in_o the_o world_n but_o have_v not_o a_o honest_a heart_n i_o beseech_v you_o observe_v it_o that_o man_n that_o have_v a_o honest_a heart_n to_o god_n be_v one_o that_o receive_v the_o seed_n of_o the_o word_n so_o as_o he_o go_v beyond_o the_o highway_n ground_n the_o stony_a ground_n or_o the_o thorny_a ground_n he_o go_v beyond_o those_o three_o sort_n of_o professor_n he_o be_v one_o that_o have_v a_o eminency_n in_o profession_n of_o religion_n beyond_o those_o three_o now_o the_o world_n account_v many_o honest_a man_n that_o do_v not_o go_v beyond_o any_o of_o those_o three_o yea_o the_o world_n do_v ordinary_o account_v any_o of_o those_o three_o to_o be_v honest_a man_n as_o the_o highway_n ground_n be_v there_o not_o many_o honest_a man_n in_o the_o world_n that_o regard_v not_o the_o word_n of_o god_n at_o all_o but_o only_o come_v to_o hear_v a_o sermon_n and_o as_o soon_o as_o they_o have_v do_v as_o it_o come_v in_o at_o one_o ear_n so_o it_o go_v out_o at_o the_o other_o i_o fear_v there_o be_v some_o man_n and_o woman_n that_o be_v account_v honest_a man_n and_o woman_n in_o the_o world_n that_o can_v hardly_o give_v a_o account_n of_o any_o one_o sermon_n they_o have_v hear_v in_o all_o their_o life_n hardly_o i_o say_v but_o the_o word_n which_o they_o hear_v be_v present_o take_v away_o from_o they_o and_o yet_o these_o be_v account_v honest_a man_n in_o the_o world_n but_o this_o be_v not_o the_o honest_a heart_n the_o scripture_n speak_v of_o and_o many_o there_o be_v that_o go_v further_o than_o these_o that_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n with_o joy_n and_o yet_o they_o have_v not_o this_o honest_a heart_n yea_o they_o may_v hear_v the_o word_n so_o as_o to_o bring_v forth_o a_o blade_n and_o yet_o not_o have_v this_o honest_a heart_n by_o this_o honest_a heart_n i_o take_v therefore_o to_o be_v mean_v this_o a_o heart_n that_o deal_v square_o and_o true_o with_o god_n behave_v itself_o in_o a_o beseem_a manner_n suitable_a to_o that_o authority_n and_o excellency_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n as_o now_o for_o example_n 1_o first_o among_o man_n he_o be_v account_v a_o honest_a man_n that_o deal_v square_o and_o true_o with_o man_n in_o all_o action_n such_o a_o man_n you_o will_v say_v be_v a_o honest_a man_n as_o honest_a a_o man_n as_o ever_o break_v bread_n that_o be_v one_o that_o will_v deal_v square_o with_o man_n not_o only_o in_o one_o thing_n but_o turn_v he_o to_o any_o thing_n and_o you_o shall_v find_v a_o proportion_n between_o one_o action_n and_o another_o so_o this_o be_v a_o honest_a heart_n not_o one_o that_o only_o will_v be_v forward_o for_o god_n in_o some_o one_o action_n wherein_o he_o may_v enjoy_v himself_o as_o well_o as_o god_n but_o one_o that_o deal_v square_o with_o god_n let_v god_n put_v he_o upon_o duty_n upon_o any_o service_n god_n shall_v find_v he_o still_o to_o be_v the_o same_o man_n put_v he_o upon_o a_o easy_a service_n as_o many_o will_v embrace_v that_o or_o put_v he_o upon_o a_o difficult_a service_n it_o be_v all_o one_o if_o it_o be_v the_o mind_n of_o god_n you_o shall_v find_v he_o square_v in_o every_o thing_n though_o he_o be_v put_v upon_o that_o which_o he_o be_v like_a to_o suffer_v very_o much_o in_o yet_o he_o go_v on_o according_a to_o his_o principle_n a_o honest_a heart_n be_v one_o that_o have_v receive_v gracious_a principle_n and_o according_o he_o act_v all_o the_o world_n can_v take_v he_o off_o from_o his_o principle_n of_o godliness_n that_o the_o lord_n have_v put_v into_o his_o heart_n 2_o second_o a_o honest_a man_n be_v one_o that_o provide_v thing_n honest_a before_o man_n that_o do_v all_o thing_n in_o a_o seemly_a way_n in_o all_o those_o relation_n that_o he_o have_v unto_o other_o that_o we_o account_v honesty_n so_o when_o a_o man_n behaviour_n towards_o the_o word_n be_v such_o as_o do_v beseem_v the_o word_n of_o that_o god_n with_o who_o he_o have_v to_o deal_v that_o look_v what_o excellency_n what_o glory_n there_o be_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n such_o a_o suitable_a behaviour_n there_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n to_o it_o this_o be_v a_o honest_a heart_n so_o that_o there_o be_v those_o two_o thing_n when_o a_o man_n be_v square_a with_o god_n in_o one_o thing_n as_o well_o as_o another_o and_o when_o there_o be_v a_o suitableness_n in_o the_o behaviour_n of_o the_o soul_n to_o what_o excellency_n there_o be_v in_o the_o word_n when_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n will_v not_o abuse_v the_o word_n at_o all_o but_o behave_v its_o self_n honest_o according_a unto_o the_o gravity_n holiness_n and_o weight_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o word_n and_o thus_o now_o with_o such_o a_o good_a and_o honest_a heart_n we_o be_v to_o receive_v the_o word_n if_o we_o will_v sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o it_o 10_o a_o ten_o particular_a be_v this_o if_o we_o will_v sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o the_o word_n we_o must_v hide_v the_o word_n in_o our_o heart_n we_o must_v not_o only_a heart_n the_o word_n but_o keep_v it_o preserve_v it_o and_o then_o do_v we_o declare_v that_o we_o account_v the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o be_v worth_a something_o indeed_o for_o what_o be_v it_o to_o sanctify_v god_n as_o we_o have_v open_v before_o in_o the_o general_a but_o such_o a_o behaviour_n towards_o he_o as_o may_v testify_v the_o excellency_n of_o the_o name_n of_o god_n so_o the_o behaviour_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o hear_v the_o word_n must_v be_v such_o as_o may_v give_v a_o testimony_n to_o the_o excellency_n of_o the_o word_n and_o manifest_v the_o high_a esteem_n i_o have_v of_o it_o now_o if_o i_o receive_v a_o thing_n that_o be_v of_o great_a value_n if_o i_o slight_a it_o and_o let_v any_o body_n take_v it_o from_o i_o i_o do_v not_o give_v a_o testimony_n to_o the_o excellency_n of_o that_o thing_n but_o if_o i_o take_v it_o and_o lock_v it_o up_o and_o so_o keep_v it_o under_o lock_n and_o key_n i_o do_v thereby_o give_v a_o testimony_n of_o the_o esteem_n that_o i_o have_v of_o the_o excellency_n of_o that_o thing_n so_o now_o when_o i_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o meet_v with_o truth_n that_o have_v get_v into_o my_o soul_n i_o close_o with_o they_o and_o be_o resolve_v within_o my_o heart_n as_o i_o be_o hear_v of_o they_o well_o this_o truth_n i_o will_v keep_v through_o god_n grace_n this_o concern_v i_o and_o i_o will_v make_v much_o of_o it_o and_o although_o i_o forget_v other_o thing_n yet_o i_o hope_v i_o shall_v remember_v this_o to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n in_o isa_n 42._o 23._o hear_v say_v the_o holy_a ghost_n there_o for_o the_o time_n to_o come_v when_o we_o come_v to_o the_o word_n we_o must_v not_o only_o hearken_v for_o the_o present_a as_o many_o of_o we_o while_o we_o be_v hear_v our_o heart_n be_v stir_v for_o the_o present_a oh_o that_o we_o can_v but_o have_v that_o affection_n of_o heart_n always_o as_o we_o have_v when_o we_o be_v hear_v of_o the_o word_n how_o many_o of_o you_o have_v say_v when_o you_o have_v be_v hear_v such_o a_o sermon_n oh_o than_o i_o think_v i_o can_v have_v go_v through_o you_o come_v now_o when_o you_o go_v home_o though_o it_o may_v be_v they_o will_v not_o let_v you_o repeat_v the_o sermon_n yet_o you_o be_v to_o hold_v forth_o the_o sermon_n in_o your_o practice_n you_o that_o be_v hearer_n of_o the_o word_n will_v glorify_v the_o word_n and_o glorify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o the_o word_n oh_o that_o not_o one_o of_o you_o will_v be_v a_o disgrace_n or_o shame_n to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n this_o be_v the_o charge_n that_o god_n this_o morning_n lay_v upon_o you_o as_o ever_o you_o expect_v to_o receive_v any_o good_a from_o the_o word_n or_o to_o look_v upon_o the_o face_n of_o god_n with_o comfort_n who_o word_n this_o be_v do_v not_o be_v a_o shame_n to_o his_o word_n and_o to_o the_o minister_n of_o his_o word_n put_v all_o these_o thing_n together_o i_o say_v and_o learn_v to_o make_v conscience_n of_o sanctify_a god_n name_v in_o hear_v the_o word_n that_o so_o there_o may_v be_v none_o of_o you_o that_o may_v give_v any_o just_a occasion_n to_o other_o to_o say_v be_v this_o to_o hear_v sermon_n do_v you_o get_v nothing_o else_o but_o this_o by_o hear_v sermon_n if_o you_o shall_v open_v the_o mouth_n of_o man_n to_o say_v so_o of_o you_o the_o word_n of_o god_n as_o much_o as_o lie_v in_o you_o will_v be_v disgrace_v by_o you_o you_o shall_v rather_o think_v thus_o it_o be_v better_o for_o i_o that_o i_o shall_v die_v regard_v not_o yourselves_o and_o your_o own_o honour_n yet_o regard_v the_o honour_n of_o the_o word_n if_o ever_o you_o have_v get_v any_o good_a by_o the_o word_n you_o shall_v go_v away_o with_o come_v nigh_o i_o now_o follow_v the_o reason_n why_o god_n stand_v so_o much_o 1645._o upon_o it_o that_o he_o will_v have_v his_o name_n sanctify_v in_o this_o ordinance_n of_o hear_v his_o word_n 1_o first_o it_o be_v because_o there_o be_v so_o much_o of_o god_n in_o his_o word_n and_o therefore_o we_o shall_v sanctify_v god_n name_n if_o it_o be_v possible_a there_o can_v be_v sin_n in_o heaven_n that_o sin_n will_v be_v great_a than_o sin_n commit_v here_o therefore_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o angel_n when_o they_o be_v in_o god_n presence_n in_o a_o more_o especial_a manner_n be_v the_o great_a the_o name_n of_o god_n be_v in_o any_o thing_n the_o great_a will_v be_v the_o evil_a if_o we_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o it_o now_o there_o be_v very_o much_o of_o god_n in_o his_o word_n more_o of_o god_n there_o then_o in_o all_o his_o work_n of_o creation_n and_o providence_n in_o ps_n 138._o 2._o thou_o have_v magnify_v thy_o word_n above_o all_o thy_o name_n there_o be_v therefore_o so_o much_o of_o god_n in_o his_o word_n we_o must_v sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o it_o 2_o second_o god_n have_v appoint_v his_o word_n to_o be_v the_o great_a first_o grace_n to_o those_o that_o belong_v to_o god_n election_n the_o sacrament_n be_v for_o frengthn_v and_o therefore_o there_o be_v rather_o more_o in_o the_o word_n then_o in_o the_o sacrament_n and_o yet_o every_o one_o think_v in_o conscience_n that_o he_o be_v bind_v to_o come_v careful_o to_o the_o sacrament_n and_o to_o look_v to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n there_o it_o be_v a_o easy_a matter_n to_o convince_v man_n and_o woman_n that_o they_o be_v bind_v to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n when_o they_o come_v to_o receive_v the_o holy_a communion_n then_o for_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n they_o think_v not_o so_o much_o of_o that_o but_o certain_o the_o word_n be_v appoint_v to_o be_v a_o ordinance_n of_o convey_v more_o blessing_n than_o the_o sacrament_n because_o it_o be_v appoint_v to_o convey_v the_o first_o grace_n and_o to_o convey_v strength_n of_o grace_n as_o well_o as_o the_o sacrament_n now_o be_v appoint_v to_o convey_v such_o great_a thing_n to_o the_o soul_n of_o the_o elect_a both_o the_o first_o grace_n and_o strengthen_n of_o grace_n and_o comfort_n and_o assistance_n thereof_o the_o lord_n expect_v to_o have_v his_o name_n sanctify_v in_o it_o 3_o three_o the_o name_n of_o god_n must_v be_v sanctify_v in_o the_o word_n because_o the_o word_n be_v very_o quick_a and_o lively_a it_o work_v man_n or_o woman_n to_o life_n or_o death_n to_o salvation_n or_o damnation_n in_o heb._n 4._o 12._o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v quick_a and_o powerful_a and_o sharp_a than_o any_o two_o edge_a sword_n pierce_v even_o to_o the_o divide_v asunder_o of_o soul_n and_o spirit_n etc._n etc._n it_o be_v very_o quick_a of_o operation_n the_o text_n say_v that_o be_v when_o god_n have_v to_o deal_v with_o man_n by_o his_o word_n he_o will_v not_o stand_v dally_v and_o trifle_v with_o they_o but_o he_o be_v very_o quick_a with_o they_o either_o to_o bring_v their_o soul_n to_o life_n or_o to_o cast_v they_o away_o the_o time_n of_o man_n ignorance_n god_n wink_v at_o but_o now_o he_o call_v all_o man_n to_o repent_v let_v they_o look_v to_o it_o now_o god_n do_v forbear_v in_o the_o time_n of_o ignorance_n but_o he_o will_v not_o forbear_v so_o when_o the_o word_n come_v now_o be_v the_o axe_n lay_v to_o the_o root_n of_o the_o tree_n and_o when_o be_v that_o when_o john_n baptist_n come_v to_o preach_v repentance_n because_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n be_v at_o hand_n though_o the_o tree_n be_v barren_a before_o and_o do_v not_o bring_v forth_o good_a fruit_n yet_o it_o may_v stand_v still_o and_o not_o be_v cut_v down_o but_o when_o the_o powerful_a ministration_n of_o the_o word_n come_v than_o the_o axe_n be_v lay_v to_o the_o root_n of_o the_o tree_n either_o now_o come_v in_o and_o be_v save_v or_o resist_v the_o word_n and_o perish_v and_o therefore_o that_o be_v very_o observable_a when_o christ_n send_v out_o his_o disciple_n to_o preach_v in_o mark_n 16._o 15_o 16._o say_v he_o go_v you_o into_o all_o the_o world_n and_o preach_v the_o gospel_n to_o every_o creature_n and_o he_o that_o believe_v and_o be_v baptise_a shall_v be_v save_v but_o he_o that_o believe_v not_o now_o when_o it_o be_v mere_o out_o of_o love_n to_o jesus_n christ_n that_o i_o may_v have_v more_o edification_n to_o my_o soul_n and_o still_o i_o retain_v love_n to_o the_o saint_n that_o be_v there_o as_o they_o be_v in_o a_o communion_n and_o so_o far_o as_o they_o have_v any_o thing_n good_a among_o they_o i_o hold_v communion_n with_o they_o in_o that_o only_o i_o desire_v in_o humility_n and_o in_o meekness_n that_o i_o may_v be_v in_o such_o a_o place_n where_o my_o soul_n may_v be_v most_o edify_v where_o i_o may_v enjoy_v all_o those_o ordinance_n that_o christ_n have_v appoint_v for_o his_o church_n certain_o that_o soul_n that_o can_v give_v this_o account_n to_o jesus_n christ_n for_o go_v from_o one_o place_n to_o another_o will_v be_v free_v by_o jesus_n
