of_o jesus_n may_v be_v make_v manifest_a in_o our_o mortal_a flesh_n even_o this_o mortal_a flesh_n that_o must_v die_v ere_o long_o in_o suffer_v for_o christ_n here_o it_o do_v manifest_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n and_o be_v it_o not_o a_o great_a good_a to_o we_o to_o have_v our_o mortal_a flesh_n to_o manifest_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n than_o to_o have_v our_o mortal_a flesh_n to_o live_v here_o a_o natural_a life_n we_o will_v be_v loath_a to_o have_v this_o flesh_n of_o our_o body_n to_o be_v dead_a flesh_n while_o we_o be_v willing_a to_o suffer_v for_o christ_n this_o flesh_n of_o we_o do_v manifest_v the_o very_a life_n of_o jesus_n christ_n therefore_o the_o saint_n be_v dead_a to_o the_o world_n but_o they_o be_v alive_a to_o jesus_n christ_n but_o thus_o much_o for_o this_o first_o part_n to_o i_o to_o live_v be_v christ_n and_o to_o die_v be_v gain_n to_o who_o christ_n be_v to_o live_v to_o they_o death_n be_v gain_v the_o more_o we_o enjoy_v christ_n and_o live_v to_o christ_n here_o the_o more_o gainful_a will_v death_n be_v to_o we_o and_o the_o more_o shall_v we_o be_v able_a to_o look_v upon_o death_n as_o gain_v and_o here_o we_o have_v a_o scripture_n if_o we_o have_v no_o other_o sufficient_a to_o prove_v the_o immortality_n of_o the_o soul_n how_o can_v death_n be_v gain_n unto_o the_o apostle_n if_o so_o be_v that_o the_o soul_n shall_v die_v together_o with_o the_o body_n indeed_o christ_n will_v be_v gain_n for_o another_o life_n hereafter_o that_o be_v at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n there_o christ_n will_v be_v gain_n and_o those_o that_o do_v deny_v the_o immortality_n of_o the_o soul_n yet_o they_o be_v not_o so_o vile_a as_o some_o take_v they_o to_o think_v that_o man_n shall_v die_v like_o a_o beast_n and_o there_o be_v a_o end_n of_o he_o and_o that_o there_o shall_v be_v no_o resurrection_n no_o but_o those_o that_o do_v deny_v the_o immortality_n of_o the_o soul_n they_o say_v that_o though_o the_o soul_n die_v with_o the_o body_n yet_o at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n both_o soul_n and_o body_n shall_v rise_v again_o and_o live_v for_o ever_o but_o all_o they_o deny_v be_v this_o that_o the_o soul_n between_o death_n and_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n shall_v live_v they_o think_v that_o the_o soul_n between_o death_n and_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n shall_v die_v and_o then_o by_o the_o almighty_a power_n of_o god_n they_o shall_v be_v both_o raise_v again_o that_o be_v their_o opinion_n but_o though_o it_o be_v not_o so_o bad_a as_o some_o will_v make_v it_o yet_o a_o opinion_n false_a for_o this_o text_n show_v that_o paul_n be_v in_o a_o straight_o he_o know_v not_o whither_o to_o live_v or_o die_v but_o that_o be_v the_o conclusion_n that_o it_o be_v better_a for_o he_o to_o die_v for_o than_o he_o shall_v be_v with_o christ_n he_o can_v not_o mean_v that_o when_o he_o be_v dead_a he_o shall_v be_v with_o christ_n when_o the_o general_a resurrection_n come_v but_o he_o must_v needs_o mean_v that_o he_o shall_v be_v with_o christ_n immediate_o after_o his_o death_n and_o enjoy_v another_o manner_n of_o communion_n with_o jesus_n christ_n than_o he_o do_v here_o while_o he_o be_v live_v and_o it_o be_v upon_o this_o account_n that_o he_o say_v it_o be_v gain_v for_o he_o to_o die_v why_o paul_n enjoy_v much_o communion_n with_o jesus_n christ_n here_o and_o though_o he_o have_v some_o sin_n in_o he_o yet_o consider_v the_o grace_n he_o have_v and_o the_o service_n he_o do_v for_o christ_n certain_o it_o be_v better_o for_o he_o to_o live_v than_o to_o be_v in_o a_o condition_n where_o he_o shall_v enjoy_v nothing_o of_o christ_n and_o do_v no_o service_n for_o christ_n but_o the_o apostle_n look_v upon_o the_o state_n of_o death_n before_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n to_o be_v a_o better_a estate_n than_o that_o he_o have_v while_o he_o live_v though_o say_v he_o i_o have_v the_o grace_n of_o christ_n and_o i_o do_v service_n for_o he_o yet_o there_o be_v a_o better_a condition_n between_o death_n and_o judgement_n if_o my_o soul_n be_v go_v from_o my_o body_n it_o will_v be_v in_o a_o better_a estate_n than_o now_o it_o be_v to_o i_o to_o die_v be_v gain_v and_o so_o you_o have_v it_o in_o 2_o cor._n where_o the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o his_o depart_n out_o of_o the_o body_n in_o chap._n 5._o therefore_o we_o be_v always_o confident_a know_v that_o whilst_o we_o be_v at_o home_n in_o the_o body_n we_o be_v absent_a from_o the_o lord_n we_o be_v confident_a in_o verse_n 8._o i_o say_v and_o willing_a rather_o to_o be_v absent_a from_o the_o body_n and_o to_o be_v present_a with_o the_o lord_n so_o that_o it_o be_v apparent_a that_o upon_o the_o soul_n absence_n from_o the_o body_n it_o be_v present_a with_o the_o lord_n now_o if_o the_o soul_n do_v die_v as_o the_o body_n do_v it_o be_v not_o present_a with_o the_o lord_n no_o not_o so_o much_o as_o when_o it_o be_v in_o the_o body_n but_o now_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o when_o it_o be_v out_o of_o the_o body_n then_o it_o be_v present_a with_o the_o lord_n and_o when_o it_o be_v in_o the_o body_n it_o be_v absent_a from_o the_o lord_n and_o so_o it_o be_v upon_o this_o ground_n especial_o that_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o to_o he_o to_o die_v be_v gain_v because_o he_o shall_v be_v absent_a from_o the_o body_n but_o present_a with_o christ_n which_o be_v best_a of_o all_o to_o be_v with_o christ_n it_o be_v more_o than_o to_o have_v christ_n with_o we_o the_o difference_n lie_v here_o for_o we_o to_o be_v with_o christ_n it_o be_v for_o we_o to_o be_v bring_v to_o christ_n where_o he_o be_v like_o himself_o in_o all_o his_o glory_n and_o excellency_n and_o for_o we_o to_o enjoy_v he_o in_o a_o proportionable_a way_n but_o now_o for_o christ_n to_o be_v immanuel_n god_n with_o we_o it_o be_v for_o christ_n to_o come_v down_o as_o it_o be_v to_o we_o and_o to_o manifest_v so_o much_o of_o himself_o as_o be_v suitable_a to_o our_o condition_n therefore_o christ_n humble_v himself_o to_o come_v to_o be_v with_o we_o for_o there_o he_o be_v a_o man_n of_o sorrow_n he_o be_v with_o we_o suitable_a to_o our_o mean_a and_o low_a condition_n but_o when_o we_o come_v to_o be_v with_o he_o we_o be_v there_o suitable_a to_o his_o high_a and_o glorious_a condition_n there_o lie_v the_o difference_n mark_v the_o apostle_n do_v not_o here_o say_v to_o i_o to_o die_v be_v gain_n upon_o this_o ground_n because_o i_o shall_v be_v deliver_v from_o my_o trouble_n as_o a_o great_a many_o be_v ready_a to_o think_v it_o be_v well_o for_o i_o to_o be_v dead_a if_o they_o be_v but_o a_o little_a discountent_v their_o outward_a trouble_n make_v they_o willing_a to_o go_v out_o of_o the_o world_n yea_o and_o if_o their_o body_n be_v weak_o and_o their_o stomach_n go_v and_o can_v eat_v as_o other_o do_v or_o sleep_v as_o other_o do_v or_o be_v very_o poor_a and_o live_v in_o a_o mean_a condition_n they_o be_v weary_a of_o this_o world_n now_o to_o think_v death_n gain_n upon_o such_o a_o poor_a ground_n as_o these_o be_v not_o according_a to_o the_o spirit_n of_o paul_n paul_n suffer_v as_o much_o as_o many_o of_o you_o do_v for_o outward_a thing_n in_o this_o world_n and_o yet_o he_o do_v not_o desire_v to_o die_v o_o then_o i_o shall_v be_v afflict_a no_o more_o be_v persecute_v no_o more_o in_o the_o world_n no_o but_o when_o i_o die_v i_o shall_v be_v with_o jesus_n christ_n and_o shall_v enjoy_v communion_n with_o he_o and_o it_o be_v this_o that_o make_v i_o look_v upon_o death_n with_o comfort_n and_o in_o this_o respect_n its_o gain_n though_o paul_n have_v enjoy_v all_o the_o world_n at_o will_n yet_o he_o will_v have_v account_v death_n to_o have_v be_v gain_n to_o he_o and_o though_o paul_n be_v a_o man_n of_o great_a esteem_n among_o the_o saint_n though_o persecute_v by_o other_o yet_o death_n be_v gain_n to_o he_o yea_o though_o paul_n enjoy_v all_o ordinance_n yet_o christ_n be_v gain_n to_o he_o and_o though_o he_o do_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o service_n for_o christ_n as_o i_o very_o believe_v there_o be_v never_o any_o man_n since_o the_o world_n be_v make_v do_v more_o service_n for_o jesus_n christ_n
therefore_o sure_o it_o be_v gain_n to_o die_v for_o a_o godly_a man._n 7_o further_n it_o be_v gain_n in_o this_o respect_n when_o they_o receive_v immediate_o they_o shall_v receive_v all_o unite_a in_o one_o and_o all_o together_o they_o shall_v have_v such_o influence_n from_o christ_n as_o have_v all_o good_a unite_a in_o one_o beam_n of_o excellency_n and_o so_o receive_v it_o all_o together_o as_o now_o a_o man_n may_v take_v the_o quintessence_n of_o several_a herb_n there_o be_v this_o herb_n have_v this_o virtue_n another_o another_o and_o a_o three_o a_o three_o but_o now_o if_o you_o still_o all_o these_o herb_n together_o you_o will_v have_v the_o virtue_n and_o quintessence_n of_o all_o in_o one_o drop_n so_o christ_n here_o scatter_v his_o excellency_n one_o in_o one_o creature_n another_o in_o another_o but_o when_o we_o come_v to_o enjoy_v he_o immediate_o than_o we_o shall_v have_v all_o in_o one_o because_o all_o his_o excellency_n whatsoever_o be_v unite_v in_o one_o in_o he_o eight_o further_n all_o our_o good_a shall_v be_v in_o continal_n act._n here_o we_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o good_a in_o the_o habit_n but_o now_o when_o we_o come_v to_o have_v this_o immediate_a communion_n with_o christ_n there_o all_o our_o grace_n shall_v be_v act_v continual_o the_o sun_n you_o know_v how_o it_o do_v act_n the_o earth_n whatsoever_o there_o be_v in_o the_o earth_n it_o draw_v it_o forth_o and_o make_v it_o flourish_v so_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n oh_o how_o glorious_o will_v it_o act_n all_o our_o grace_n in_o numb_a 17._o 7._o we_o read_v of_o aaron_n rod_n it_o blossom_a and_o the_o text_n say_v it_o blossom_v before_o the_o lord_n when_o the_o soul_n of_o the_o saint_n shall_v be_v before_o the_o lord_n and_o be_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o lord_n christ_n o_o they_o shall_v blossom_n and_o flourish_n and_o all_o their_o grace_n shall_v flourish_n in_o a_o most_o glorious_a manner_n nine_o and_o then_o last_o we_o shall_v enjoy_v what_o be_v in_o christ_n without_o any_o intermission_n what_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o any_o intermission_n here_o but_o something_o that_o come_v between_o christ_n and_o our_o soul_n but_o now_o when_o there_o shall_v be_v nothing_o between_o christ_n and_o the_o soul_n than_o there_o will_v be_v no_o intermission_n that_o sweetness_n and_o comfort_n thou_o have_v in_o communion_n with_o christ_n at_o any_o time_n thou_o shall_v have_v it_o at_o all_o time_n and_o how_o good_a be_v that_o o_o say_v many_o a_o soul_n can_v i_o have_v but_o the_o communion_n with_o christ_n at_o all_o time_n as_o i_o have_v at_o some_o time_n o_o that_o will_v be_v comfortable_a now_o when_o the_o soul_n have_v immediate_a communion_n with_o christ_n it_o shall_v have_v it_o at_o all_o time_n what_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o eclipse_n it_o be_v the_o interposition_n between_o the_o moon_n and_o the_o sun_n or_o some_o interposition_n between_o the_o sun_n and_o we_o so_o our_o eclipse_n of_o the_o light_n that_o we_o have_v from_o christ_n it_o be_v some_o interposition_n take_v away_o the_o interposition_n and_o then_o there_o will_v be_v no_o intermission_n now_o put_v all_o these_o together_o and_o be_v it_o not_o gain_v to_o die_v and_o to_o be_v with_o christ_n now_o by_o way_n of_o use_n it_o be_v gain_n thus_o to_o be_v with_o christ_n hence_o then_o use_v if_o it_o be_v gain_n for_o one_o that_o do_v so_o much_o service_n for_o christ_n as_o paul_n do_v sure_o than_o those_o that_o be_v believer_n and_o be_v make_v little_a use_n of_o in_o any_o service_n for_o christ_n they_o will_v get_v by_o their_o death_n paul_n be_v a_o man_n that_o one_o will_v wonder_v how_o the_o church_n can_v spare_v he_o he_o do_v so_o much_o for_o christ_n and_o yet_o paul_n will_v get_v by_o death_n if_o thou_o be_v a_o believer_n thou_o shall_v have_v thy_o immediate_a communion_n with_o christ_n as_o paul_n have_v alas_o here_o while_o thou_o live_v thou_o have_v but_o little_a communion_n between_o christ_n and_o thou_o and_o do_v he_o but_o little_a service_n in_o the_o world_n then_o why_o shall_v you_o so_o much_o desire_v to_o live_v in_o the_o world_n that_o have_v nothing_o to_o countervail_v the_o trouble_n that_o you_o have_v and_o the_o sin_n that_o be_v commit_v in_o the_o world_n o_o sure_o it_o will_v be_v gain_n for_o you_o second_o hence_o it_o follow_v that_o it_o be_v a_o self-denial_n to_o a_o believer_n to_o be_v willing_a to_o live_v here_o in_o the_o world_n you_o will_v say_v if_o it_o be_v so_o much_o gain_n why_o shall_v any_o be_v so_o desirous_a to_o live_v it_o be_v this_o first_o nature_n will_v have_v its_o work_n though_o in_o their_o judgement_n they_o be_v convince_v that_o it_o be_v better_a to_o be_v with_o christ_n yet_o the_o body_n will_v be_v work_v and_o the_o affection_n will_v follow_v the_o body_n very_o much_o further_o though_o they_o be_v convince_v that_o it_o be_v gain_n yet_o god_n lay_v a_o tie_n upon_o they_o to_o preserve_v their_o life_n as_o long_o as_o they_o can_v here_o in_o this_o world_n in_o obedience_n to_o god_n they_o do_v desire_v to_o avoid_v danger_n and_o preserve_v their_o life_n it_o be_v not_o for_o they_o to_o be_v where_o it_o be_v best_o for_o they_o to_o be_v but_o to_o be_v where_o god_n will_v have_v they_o to_o be_v and_o therefore_o god_n do_v charge_v they_o to_o seek_v to_o preserve_v their_o life_n and_o to_o go_v on_o till_o he_o himself_o shall_v dissolve_v the_o body_n and_o soul_n it_o be_v god_n that_o be_v the_o lord_n of_o our_o life_n and_o as_o god_n give_v we_o our_o life_n so_o it_o be_v he_o that_o must_v take_v they_o away_o and_o not_o any_o body_n else_o but_o yet_o i_o say_v there_o be_v some_o self-denial_n in_o it_o we_o must_v look_v upon_o ourselves_o here_o as_o in_o a_o very_a low_a and_o mean_a condition_n in_o comparison_n of_o what_o we_o hope_v to_o be_v within_o a_o while_n after_o therefore_o observe_v this_o one_o note_n those_o that_o do_v believe_v the_o gain_n of_o death_n they_o have_v need_v labour_n what_o they_o can_v to_o countervail_v the_o forbearance_n of_o the_o gain_n by_o somewhat_o or_o other_o if_o a_o man_n have_v a_o great_a gain_n and_o it_o come_v not_o in_o his_o present_a possession_n he_o think_v what_o shall_v i_o have_v for_o my_o forbearance_n you_o will_v say_v what_o be_v it_o that_o any_o believer_n can_v have_v in_o lieu_n of_o his_o forbearance_n of_o that_o gain_n true_o the_o most_o excellent_a thing_n be_v this_o that_o he_o may_v do_v christ_n service_n while_o he_o live_v now_o then_o be_v that_o the_o main_a thing_n o_o learn_v from_o hence_o to_o be_v of_o as_o much_o use_n in_o your_o life_n as_o possible_o you_o can_v for_o you_o have_v nothing_o else_o to_o speak_v of_o in_o forbearance_n of_o that_o great_a gain_n why_o lord_n i_o expect_v to_o enjoy_v thou_o for_o ever_o before_o long_o but_o thou_o be_v please_v to_o prolong_v my_o life_n here_o for_o a_o while_n in_o the_o mean_a time_n i_o meet_v with_o many_o temptation_n and_o trouble_n and_o vexation_n and_o much_o sin_n i_o have_v but_o yet_o lord_n thou_o know_v it_o be_v my_o desire_n to_o honour_v thou_o and_o serve_v thou_o and_o through_o thy_o mercy_n i_o be_o some_o way_n or_o other_o serviceable_a to_o thou_o in_o the_o place_n where_o thou_o have_v set_v i_o and_o lord_n this_o be_v the_o thing_n content_v i_o while_o i_o be_o absent_a from_o thou_o three_o hence_o we_o see_v the_o great_a difference_n that_o there_o be_v between_o the_o death_n of_o a_o believer_n and_o the_o death_n of_o a_o wicked_a man._n i_o show_v you_o i_o remember_v in_o the_o death_n of_o a_o ungodly_a man_n when_o the_o fiery_a serpent_n come_v with_o his_o sting_n and_o take_v he_o in_o his_o natural_a estate_n death_n be_v not_o gain_n to_o such_o a_o one_o o_o no_o death_n take_v away_o all_o his_o gain_n but_o now_o death_n be_v the_o great_a gain_n to_o the_o saint_n that_o be_v a_o excellent_a scripture_n you_o have_v in_o 1_o cor._n 3._o the_o latter_a end_n whether_o paul_n or_o apollo_n or_o cephas_n or_o the_o world_n or_o life_n or_o death_n or_o thing_n present_a or_o thing_n to_o come_v all_o be_v you_o in_o christ_n death_n come_v to_o be_v make_v you_o death_n be_v part_n of_o the_o possession_n of_o the_o saint_n o_o the_o difference_n between_o the_o death_n of_o the_o saint_n and_o the_o death_n of_o wicked_a and_o ungodly_a man_n do_v but_o put_v two_o man_n a_o wicked_a man_n and_o a_o godly_a man_n lie_v both_o together_o upon_o their_o deathbed_n you_o must_v take_v a_o wicked_a man_n that_o have_v a_o enlighten_v
then_o the_o blessedness_n you_o speak_v of_o for_o i_o bear_v you_o record_v that_o if_o it_o have_v be_v possible_a you_o will_v have_v pluck_v out_o your_o own_o eye_n and_o have_v give_v they_o to_o i_o the_o meaning_n be_v this_o when_o the_o gospel_n come_v at_o first_o to_o be_v preach_v among_o they_o general_o they_o cry_v out_o o_o this_o bless_a gospel_n o_o the_o blessedness_n o_o these_o bless_a truth_n that_o be_v come_v among_o we_o such_o truth_n as_o we_o be_v not_o acquaint_v withal_o o_o they_o be_v bless_v truth_n indeed_o mark_v they_o be_v thus_o take_v with_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n when_o they_o be_v first_o preach_v but_o now_o say_v paul_n where_o be_v the_o blessedness_n you_o speak_v of_o your_o heart_n be_v not_o now_o so_o take_v with_o the_o gospel_n as_o they_o be_v at_o first_o now_o you_o seem_v to_o be_v take_v off_o from_o it_o where_o be_v the_o blessedness_n you_o speak_v of_o i_o make_v no_o question_n but_o many_o minister_n in_o many_o congregation_n have_v cause_n to_o make_v use_n of_o these_o word_n of_o the_o apostle_n when_o god_n send_v they_o at_o first_o the_o heart_n of_o people_n be_v take_v with_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o within_o a_o while_n they_o be_v off_o again_o and_o well_o may_v their_o minister_n say_v where_o be_v the_o blessedness_n you_o speak_v of_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o gospel_n it_o do_v not_o abide_v upon_o they_o but_o one_o thing_n or_o other_o take_v it_o off_o from_o they_o so_o in_o heb._n 6._o there_o you_o read_v of_o some_o that_o yet_o be_v not_o save_v by_o the_o gospel_n or_o be_v not_o in_o a_o condition_n at_o least_o for_o the_o present_a to_o be_v save_v yet_o they_o have_v a_o taste_n of_o the_o heavenly_a gift_n they_o do_v not_o only_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o understand_v it_o but_o they_o have_v a_o taste_n of_o the_o good_a word_n of_o god_n o_o they_o say_v it_o be_v the_o good_a word_n of_o god_n and_o mark_n of_o the_o power_n of_o the_o world_n to_o come_v that_o be_v of_o those_o powerful_a truth_n of_o those_o truth_n that_o do_v concern_v the_o world_n to_o come_v that_o be_v powerful_a truth_n for_o so_o certain_o my_o brethren_n the_o truth_n that_o do_v concern_v the_o world_n to_o come_v as_o powerful_a truth_n they_o have_v a_o mighty_a deal_n of_o power_n to_o work_v upon_o the_o heart_n and_o these_o have_v not_o only_o the_o apprehension_n but_o a_o taste_n of_o the_o power_n of_o the_o world_n to_o come_v and_o yet_o it_o appear_v that_o they_o have_v not_o those_o thing_n that_o do_v accompany_v salvation_n many_o other_o scripture_n may_v be_v show_v that_o there_o be_v many_o that_o be_v affect_v with_o the_o gospel_n yea_o they_o be_v convince_v and_o they_o have_v some_o taste_n of_o it_o and_o their_o spirit_n take_v yea_o almost_o persuade_v with_o he_o that_o we_o read_v of_o almost_o persuade_v to_o become_v a_o christian_a and_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o this_o mercy_n that_o be_v here_o promise_v to_o the_o son_n of_o peace_n be_v not_o their_o portion_n the_o peace_n of_o the_o gospel_n do_v not_o rest_n upon_o their_o spirit_n it_o be_v a_o blessing_n beyond_o that_o which_o any_o hypocrite_n in_o the_o world_n have_v to_o have_v this_o peace_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o rest_v and_o abide_v upon_o his_o spirit_n that_o be_v first_o to_o be_v set_v up_o as_o a_o constant_a light_n before_o the_o soul_n not_o to_o come_v as_o a_o mere_a flash_n of_o lightning_n sudden_o come_v and_o sudden_o go_v but_o than_o it_o may_v be_v say_v to_o rest_v to_o lose_v all_o those_o truth_n which_o former_o they_o be_v so_o take_v with_o but_o those_o that_o be_v the_o son_n of_o peace_n they_o have_v the_o peace_n of_o the_o gospel_n rest_v upon_o be_v to_o treat_v between_o god_n and_o man_n upon_o term_n of_o peace_n it_o be_v i_o say_v to_o treat_v with_o your_o soul_n for_o peace_n that_o you_o may_v come_v to_o have_v peace_n with_o god_n that_o a_o bless_a peace_n may_v be_v make_v between_o god_n and_o you_o this_o be_v the_o great_a errand_n that_o they_o come_v about_o and_o whatsoever_o they_o preach_v to_o you_o else_o if_o it_o be_v to_o show_v you_o what_o your_o miserable_a condition_n be_v yet_o it_o be_v in_o order_n to_o this_o still_o to_o bring_v peace_n to_o your_o soul_n and_o indeed_o all_o faithful_a minister_n be_v careful_a of_o this_o to_o show_v at_o the_o very_a first_o what_o their_o scope_n be_v it_o be_v to_o bring_v they_o to_o life_n and_o salvation_n but_o that_o in_o the_o next_o point_n but_o this_o certain_o aught_o to_o be_v their_o scope_n whatsoever_o be_v preach_v it_o must_v aim_v at_o the_o great_a treaty_n between_o god_n and_o their_o soul_n for_o reconciliation_n our_o scope_n when_o we_o come_v to_o preach_v unto_o you_o it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o to_o civilise_v you_o to_o inveigh_v against_o notorious_a cry_a sin_n drunkard_n and_o whoremaster_n and_o thief_n and_o it_o then_o what_o a_o honourable_a work_n be_v this_o to_o set_v man_n about_o and_o the_o truth_n be_v it_o be_v in_o some_o regard_n a_o more_o honourable_a work_n than_o ever_o angel_n be_v send_v about_o god_n do_v not_o send_v the_o angel_n about_o this_o work_n to_o treat_v with_o mankind_n about_o term_n of_o peace_n with_o god_n they_o be_v make_v minister_a spirit_n for_o the_o good_a of_o god_n elect_n and_o be_v make_v by_o god_n to_o be_v executioner_n against_o wicked_a man_n but_o we_o never_o read_v that_o god_n have_v commit_v the_o word_n of_o reconciliation_n to_o angel_n god_n have_v not_o appoint_v they_o to_o be_v the_o preacher_n of_o peace_n to_o people_n therefore_o it_o be_v the_o most_o honourable_a work_n that_o ever_o creature_n be_v set_v about_o to_o come_v to_o a_o place_n and_o say_v peace_n be_v to_o this_o place_n in_o the_o name_n of_o god_n and_o be_v it_o be_v such_o a_o work_n as_o this_o o_o how_o detestable_a and_o vile_a and_o curse_v be_v laziness_n or_o idleness_n in_o any_o one_o that_o shall_v profess_v himself_o a_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n what_o come_v about_o such_o a_o work_n as_o this_o to_o be_v a_o ambassador_n of_o reconciliation_n from_o the_o great_a god_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n o_o he_o shall_v have_v his_o heart_n and_o thought_n take_v up_o about_o this_o night_n and_o day_n he_o shall_v be_v study_v how_o he_o shall_v manage_v this_o great_a work_n that_o god_n send_v he_o about_o to_o poor_a people_n and_o o_o how_o acceptable_a shall_v the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v unto_o you_o some_o son_n of_o peace_n in_o that_o place_n o_o do_v not_o frustrate_v this_o expectation_n it_o be_v a_o vile_a thing_n for_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o come_v to_o any_o place_n but_o to_o gain_v son_n of_o peace_n and_o indeed_o upon_o this_o expectation_n the_o heart_n of_o a_o faithful_a minister_n who_o understand_v what_o the_o meaning_n of_o peace_n with_o god_n be_v can_v but_o be_v draw_v forth_o towards_o a_o people_n why_o he_o come_v with_o this_o expectation_n and_o he_o look_v after_o his_o ministry_n to_o see_v what_o become_v of_o it_o o_o therefore_o do_v not_o frustrate_v the_o expectation_n of_o your_o minister_n in_o this_o do_v not_o give_v they_o occasion_n to_o make_v their_o complaint_n that_o they_o have_v spend_v their_o strength_n in_o vain_a yea_o and_o further_o as_o it_o be_v the_o expectation_n of_o the_o minister_n that_o preach_v so_o it_o be_v the_o expectation_n of_o all_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n none_o of_o god_n people_n that_o know_v a_o place_n that_o have_v live_v in_o darkness_n and_o blindness_n before_o but_o if_o they_o see_v the_o lord_n by_o his_o providence_n carry_v the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n with_o power_n in_o that_o place_n they_o think_v thus_o with_o themselves_o who_o be_v it_o that_o the_o lord_n intend_v good_a unto_o sure_o the_o lord_n have_v a_o mercy_n to_o such_o a_o people_n and_o they_o will_v wait_v to_o see_v who_o it_o be_v that_o god_n will_v pitch_v upon_o o_o likewise_o do_v not_o frustrate_v the_o expectation_n that_o the_o angel_n themselves_o in_o 1_o cor._n it_o that_o we_o may_v have_v joy_n in_o heaven_n for_o so_o the_o scripture_n tell_v we_o that_o at_o the_o conversion_n of_o sinner_n there_o be_v joy_n in_o heaven_n and_o sure_o they_o wait_v for_o it_o o_o that_o we_o may_v see_v the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n work_v effectual_o upon_o soul_n that_o so_o we_o may_v joy_v for_o it_o and_o now_o let_v every_o particular_a soul_n reason_n thus_o with_o itself_o what_o be_v it_o so_o that_o there_o be_v hope_n that_o there_o may_v be_v some_o son_n of_o peace_n why_o may_v it_o not_o be_v i_o though_o vile_a though_o a_o very_a wretched_a creature_n yet_o i_o hear_v that_o the_o time_n of_o ignorance_n god_n wink_v at_o only_o now_o he_o call_v to_o repent_v if_o i_o feel_v god_n begin_v to_o jog_v my_o heart_n now_o i_o may_v be_v the_o man_n or_o woman_n that_o the_o lord_n intend_v from_o all_o eternity_n for_o we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o which_o god_n do_v now_o in_o time_n be_v no_o other_o than_o he_o do_v determine_v from_o eternity_n and_o i_o say_v if_o you_o feel_v your_o heart_n stir_v and_o wrought_v upon_o by_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n you_o may_v know_v that_o god_n do_v intend_v that_o your_o soul_n do_v entertain_v that_o you_o may_v live_v convince_o in_o the_o family_n where_o you_o live_v and_o though_o they_o do_v hate_n and_o scorn_v you_o for_o the_o present_a yet_o with_o your_o humble_a walk_v they_o may_v be_v force_v to_o say_v very_o god_n be_v work_v upon_o this_o servant_n and_o god_n be_v work_v upon_o this_o child_n it_o shall_v be_v the_o care_n of_o be_v this_o a_o argument_n that_o christ_n be_v the_o messiah_n one_o will_v think_v that_o this_o shall_v rather_o be_v a_o argument_n that_o he_o be_v not_o the_o messiah_n they_o may_v say_v i_o indeed_o there_o be_v these_o great_a thing_n do_v by_o he_o but_o there_o be_v one_o thing_n make_v we_o suspect_v that_o he_o be_v not_o the_o messiah_n for_o our_o great_a rich_a and_o learned_a man_n they_o do_v not_o receive_v he_o only_o a_o company_n of_o poor_a ignorant_a people_n this_o vulgar_a sort_n for_o so_o be_v the_o argue_n of_o the_o pharisee_n there_o in_o john_n 7._o 48._o say_v they_o when_o the_o officer_n be_v affect_v with_o the_o ministry_n of_o christ_n have_v any_o of_o the_o ruler_n or_o of_o the_o pharisee_n believe_v on_o he_o have_v any_o of_o they_o believe_v on_o he_o but_o this_o people_n that_o know_v not_o the_o law_n be_v curse_v only_o a_o company_n of_o poor_a ignorant_a people_n they_o believe_v on_o christ_n but_o the_o ruler_n have_v any_o of_o the_o ruler_n or_o of_o the_o pharisee_n the_o great_a man_n and_o the_o rich_a man_n the_o learned_a man_n have_v they_o believe_v you_o see_v that_o this_o be_v a_o stumbling-block_n whereby_o they_o will_v persuade_v man_n that_o christ_n be_v not_o the_o messiah_n but_o mark_v that_o which_o man_n make_v the_o great_a stumbling-block_n why_o christ_n be_v not_o the_o messiah_n that_o christ_n make_v unto_o john_n the_o great_a argument_n why_o he_o be_v the_o messiah_n because_o the_o poor_a receive_v the_o gospel_n and_o christ_n do_v put_v this_o among_o his_o other_o miracle_n and_o you_o will_v say_v how_o be_v this_o a_o argument_n thus_o it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o great_a miracle_n that_o ever_o christ_n wrought_v and_o it_o may_v well_o be_v reckon_v among_o those_o miracle_n of_o give_v eye_n to_o the_o blind_a and_o hear_v to_o the_o deaf_a thus_o to_o make_v one_o that_o be_v a_o poor_a weak_a creature_n that_o have_v but_o a_o mean_a capacity_n yet_o that_o such_o a_o one_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o see_v into_o the_o great_a and_o high_a and_o glorious_a mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o the_o angel_n desire_v to_o pry_v into_o so_o to_o see_v by_o other_o that_o be_v understanding_n and_o man_n of_o part_n &_o yet_o reveal_v such_o deep_a and_o hide_a mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n unto_o thou_o oh_o admire_v at_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o his_o son_n to_o thou_o and_o bless_v he_o for_o this_o be_v not_o a_o ordinary_a mercy_n it_o be_v a_o choice_a mercy_n the_o gospel_n be_v reject_v many_o time_n where_o it_o come_v and_o not_o offend_v in_o i_o for_o man_n be_v ready_a to_o be_v offend_v when_o they_o see_v great_a one_o reject_v the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o you_o hear_v that_o god_n send_v it_o where_o glorious_a gospel_n be_v preach_v in_o vain_a what_o shall_v the_o precious_a blood_n of_o jesus_n christ_n be_v shed_v in_o vain_a and_o it_o be_v in_o vain_a in_o respect_n of_o many_o soul_n and_o shall_v it_o be_v in_o respect_n of_o my_o soul_n the_o lord_n forbid_v o_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v put_v such_o kind_n of_o thought_n into_o your_o heart_n when_o you_o see_v other_o live_v under_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o a_o sinful_a way_n and_o thus_o much_o for_o this_o supposition_n if_o not_o what_o follow_v if_o not_o let_v it_o return_v to_o you_o again_o here_o we_o have_v first_o a_o encouragement_n to_o god_n minister_n in_o case_n their_o ministry_n be_v reject_v and_o second_o a_o dreadful_a denunciation_n against_o those_o that_o shall_v reject_v the_o gospel_n first_o the_o encouragement_n of_o the_o minister_n of_o god_n in_o case_n their_o ministry_n be_v reject_v let_v it_o return_v to_o you_o again_o in_o this_o we_o have_v these_o two_o thing_n first_o that_o when_o any_o minister_n preach_v christ_n to_o a_o people_n if_o the_o people_n get_v no_o good_a by_o his_o preach_v yet_o he_o shall_v have_v the_o benefit_n of_o it_o upon_o his_o own_o soul_n that_o be_v the_o first_o let_v it_o return_v to_o you_o again_o if_o they_o will_v not_o embrace_v it_o so_o as_o to_o have_v the_o good_a and_o benefit_n of_o it_o to_o they_o it_o shall_v return_v to_o you_o and_o you_o shall_v have_v the_o benefit_n and_o blessing_n of_o it_o upon_o your_o own_o soul_n second_o let_v it_o return_v that_o be_v though_o it_o prevail_v not_o much_o in_o the_o person_n of_o the_o prophet_n as_o of_o jesus_n christ_n it_o be_v a_o complaint_n of_o christ_n for_o it_o be_v apparent_a in_o the_o read_n of_o this_o chapter_n that_o it_o be_v prophetical_a of_o christ_n for_o it_o follow_v and_o now_o say_v the_o lord_n that_o form_v i_o from_o the_o womb_n to_o be_v his_o servant_n to_o bring_v jacob_n again_o to_o he_o though_o israel_n be_v not_o gather_v yet_o shall_v i_o be_v glorious_a in_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o my_o god_n shall_v be_v my_o strength_n and_o he_o say_v it_o be_v a_o light_a thing_n that_o thou_o with_o the_o lord_n and_o his_o work_n with_o his_o god_n and_o further_o that_o though_o he_o do_v not_o prevail_v with_o some_o yet_o he_o shall_v with_o other_o he_o shall_v be_v give_v as_o a_o light_n to_o the_o gentile_n and_o likewise_o that_o place_n be_v well_o know_v in_o the_o 2_o cor._n 2._o 15_o 16._o for_o we_o be_v unto_o god_n a_o sweet_a savour_n of_o christ_n in_o they_o that_o his_o comfort_n here_o and_o his_o encouragement_n the_o other_o go_v on_o in_o his_o painfulness_n and_o faithfulness_n though_o he_o have_v not_o such_o comfort_n and_o encouragement_n and_o as_o that_o be_v what_o for_o a_o man_n to_o think_v o_o that_o the_o lord_n shall_v send_v i_o to_o a_o people_n to_o what_o end_n to_o preach_v the_o gospel_n indeed_o but_o to_o harden_v they_o but_o to_o aggravate_v their_o sin_n but_o so_o as_o their_o condemnation_n shall_v be_v increase_v o_o it_o be_v a_o dreadful_a thought_n unto_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o minister_n to_o think_v that_o he_o shall_v be_v send_v about_o such_o a_o task_n as_o this_o be_v jeremy_n be_v even_o weary_a and_o say_v he_o will_v preach_v no_o more_o in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n only_o the_o word_n the_o reason_n that_o shall_v have_v spend_v i_o a_o great_a part_n of_o the_o time_n and_o it_o may_v very_o well_o require_v a_o whole_a exercise_n to_o have_v open_v to_o you_o why_o the_o lord_n be_v so_o provoke_v against_o this_o sin_n rather_o than_o another_o sin_n whatsoever_o it_o be_v for_o the_o open_v of_o the_o great_a evil_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o sin_n of_o unbelief_n and_o rejection_n of_o the_o gospel_n you_o that_o understand_v any_o thing_n must_v needs_o know_v that_o it_o must_v require_v a_o very_a large_a time_n to_o open_v it_o all_o but_o in_o a_o very_a mercy_n to_o the_o angel_n that_o sin_v against_o he_o as_o to_o you_o indeed_o here_o be_v the_o bowel_n of_o god_n mercy_n as_o the_o scripture_n call_v they_o the_o tender_a bowel_n of_o god_n mercy_n now_o to_o sin_n against_o the_o gospel_n it_o be_v to_o spurn_v at_o the_o very_a bowel_n of_o god_n many_o man_n speak_v of_o mercy_n and_o desire_v to_o hear_v much_o of_o mercy_n o_o but_o you_o have_v need_n look_v to_o yourselves_o when_o you_o hear_v much_o of_o mercy_n for_o when_o you_o hear_v of_o mercy_n your_o soul_n lie_v at_o the_o stake_n one_o way_n or_o other_o god_n deal_v another_o nature_n there_o look_v to_o thyself_o if_o thou_o do_v dally_v and_o trifle_v with_o god_n mercy_n than_o thy_o condition_n will_v be_v most_o dreadful_a i_o will_v name_v these_o one_o or_o two_o argument_n to_o thou_o because_o when_o thou_o sin_v against_o the_o offer_n of_o the_o gospel_n than_o thou_o sin_v against_o the_o help_n of_o thy_o soul_n the_o mean_n to_o do_v thou_o good_a the_o preach_v of_o the_o gospel_n it_o be_v as_o a_o board_n after_o shipwreck_n for_o every_o poor_a soul_n be_v as_o a_o man_n that_o have_v suffer_v shipwreck_n and_o he_o be_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o sea_n upon_o a_o board_n of_o the_o ship_n and_o there_o be_v all_o his_o help_n now_o be_v it_o not_o a_o mad_a thing_n for_o this_o man_n to_o put_v off_o this_o plank_n from_o he_o when_o he_o have_v no_o other_o help_n now_o we_o be_v ready_a to_o be_v swallow_v up_o of_o the_o sea_n of_o god_n wrath_n and_o now_o god_n cast_v in_o a_o plank_a to_o waft_v we_o to_o the_o shore_n if_o possible_o may_v be_v or_o rather_o thus_o the_o offer_n of_o the_o gospel_n it_o be_v like_o the_o cast_n of_o a_o rope_n into_o a_o river_n unto_o a_o man_n that_o be_v in_o danger_n of_o drown_v there_o be_v a_o man_n that_o be_v fall_v into_o the_o thames_n and_o you_o can_v get_v he_o up_o but_o you_o will_v get_v a_o line_n and_o throw_v it_o into_o the_o place_n where_o he_o sink_v and_o there_o be_v no_o way_n for_o he_o to_o be_v save_v but_o only_o that_o now_o if_o such_o a_o man_n put_v off_o the_o time_n from_o he_o what_o help_n can_v there_o be_v of_o that_o man_n thus_o it_o be_v all_o man_n and_o woman_n natural_o they_o be_v even_o ready_a to_o sink_v into_o the_o bottomless_a gulf_n of_o eternal_a misery_n this_o be_v thy_o condition_n now_o the_o lord_n in_o mercy_n send_v his_o minister_n to_o come_v and_o make_v a_o offer_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o cast_v a_o line_n to_o congregation_n and_o make_v this_o proclamation_n in_o the_o name_n of_o
