cruel_a beast_n make_v man_n her_o slave_n and_o chain_a they_o as_o sophocles_n say_v with_o diamond_n chain_n she_o be_v so_o much_o the_o more_o odious_a by_o how_o much_o the_o more_o she_o hide_v her_o venom_n put_v upon_o her_o the_o garment_n of_o good_a like_n betray_a virtue_n and_o kill_v a_o man_n even_o when_o she_o flatter_v he_o when_o pleasure_n come_v say_v erasmus_n they_o flatter_v we_o with_o a_o disguise_a visage_n and_o when_o they_o depart_v they_o leave_v we_o full_a of_o sorrow_n and_o sadness_n which_o xenophon_n very_o witty_o hercules_n devise_v under_o the_o name_n of_o hercules_n say_v that_o as_o he_o go_v one_o day_n into_o the_o field_n in_o a_o certain_a threefold_a highway_n he_o meet_v virtue_n and_o vice_n both_o of_o they_o be_v in_o the_o shape_n and_o apparel_n of_o woman_n vice_n be_v clothe_v in_o a_o stately_a delicate_a gorgeous_a and_o lascivious_a gown_n with_o a_o smile_a paint_a and_o colour_a countenance_n which_o do_v wonder_a allure_v by_o reason_n of_o the_o sweetness_n and_o flourish_a beauty_n that_o seem_v to_o be_v in_o it_o offer_v herself_o sudden_o unto_o the_o say_a hercules_n say_v that_o if_o he_o will_v follow_v she_o she_o will_v cause_v he_o to_o lead_v his_o whole_a life_n in_o delight_n and_o pleasure_n but_o virtue_n with_o a_o sorrowful_a lean_a and_o dismay_v face_n and_o clad_v with_o a_o long_a and_o plain_a robe_n without_o any_o deck_v of_o her_o speech_n use_v these_o word_n if_o thou_o will_v come_v to_o i_o hercules_n thou_o shall_v be_v endue_v not_o with_o bodily_a ornament_n nor_o with_o vade_v and_o vanish_v beauty_n but_o with_o certain_a other_o riches_n which_o be_v more_o worth_a and_o endure_v for_o ever_o for_o whosoever_o believe_v i_o forsake_v that_o which_o seem_v fair_a &_o cleave_v to_o those_o thing_n which_o outward_o appear_v austere_a and_o hard_a he_o receive_v in_o the_o end_n a_o eternal_a felicity_n let_v we_o unclothe_v voluptuous_a man_n say_v plutark_a and_o consider_v their_o do_n they_o be_v drunkard_n whoremonger_n sluggish_a in_o all_o weighty_a matter_n neglect_v the_o benefit_n of_o the_o commonwealth_n of_o their_o parent_n and_o of_o their_o friend_n but_o of_o all_o kind_n of_o voluptuousness_n lechery_n be_v most_o defile_v filthy_a vile_a and_o pernicious_a whereof_o especial_o we_o be_v now_o to_o discourse_n be_v be_v proper_o call_v of_o the_o philosopher_n a_o furious_a passion_n which_o corrupt_v the_o sense_n of_o man_n and_o a_o burn_a fire_n that_o consume_v he_o all_o unmeasurable_a pleasure_n which_o man_n take_v by_o their_o five_o sense_n be_v vile_a and_o dishonest_a but_o the_o grecian_n after_o a_o special_a manner_n call_v those_o man_n incontinent_a and_o immoderate_a who_o exceed_v in_o taste_v and_o touch_v and_o hypocrates_n say_v that_o he_o suppose_v copulation_n to_o be_v a_o part_n of_o that_o foul_a disease_n which_o we_o call_v the_o epilepsy_n copulation_n or_o fall_a sickness_n and_o true_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o certain_a than_o that_o immoderate_a use_n of_o the_o venereous_a act_n spoil_v beauty_n defile_v the_o body_n dry_v it_o up_o and_o cause_v it_o to_o stink_n make_v the_o face_n pale_a win_v or_o yellow_a weaken_v the_o member_n and_o joint_n engender_v sciaticke_a gout_n colic_n passion_n grief_n of_o the_o stomach_n giddiness_n of_o the_o head_n or_o dimness_n of_o sight_n the_o leprosy_n and_o pock_n it_o 11._o shorten_v life_n take_v away_o the_o understanding_n darken_v the_o memory_n and_o as_o the_o prophet_n osey_n say_v take_v away_o the_o hart_n moreover_o how_o odious_a all_o whoredom_n ought_v to_o be_v unto_o we_o so_o that_o it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o as_o once_o name_v among_o we_o the_o only_a curse_n that_o be_v lay_v upon_o it_o of_o god_n ought_v sufficient_o to_o persuade_v we_o see_v thereby_o he_o condemn_v it_o both_o with_o temporal_a and_o with_o eternal_a death_n but_o we_o have_v beside_o many_o goodly_a sentence_n and_o notable_a example_n of_o ethnic_n and_o pagan_n and_o namely_o of_o the_o just_a punishment_n which_o for_o the_o most_o part_n follow_v this_o detestable_a vice_n hard_o at_o the_o heel_n and_o which_o ought_v to_o stir_v we_o up_o to_o hate_v it_o and_o to_o fly_v from_o it_o with_o all_o our_o might_n especial_o when_o adultery_n be_v join_v therewith_o which_o be_v when_o concupiscence_n the_o sacred_a knot_n of_o marriage_n be_v violate_v and_o break_v concupiscence_n say_v aristotle_n change_v man_n body_n and_o breed_v madness_n in_o their_o soul_n the_o end_n thereof_o be_v luxuriousness_n from_o whence_o proceed_v a_o thousand_o wrong_n violence_n incest_n murder_n poison_n and_o innumerable_a other_o impiety_n be_v it_o not_o then_o a_o sign_n of_o great_a looseness_n and_o baseness_n of_o mind_n for_o a_o man_n to_o subject_v himself_o to_o carnal_a concupiscence_n which_o be_v disorder_v desire_v contrary_a to_o reason_n and_o who_o office_n and_o practice_n be_v to_o choose_v evil_a for_o good_a let_v we_o here_o give_v ear_n to_o socrates_n disputation_n with_o enthydemus_fw-la be_v very_o fit_a for_o our_o present_a matter_n incontinency_n tell_v i_o o_o euthydemus_n do_v thou_o think_v that_o liberty_n be_v a_o good_a great_a and_o profitable_a possession_n whether_o it_o belong_v either_o to_o a_o man_n or_o to_o a_o city_n very_o great_a therefore_o whosoever_o serve_v the_o pleasure_n and_o unbrideled_a desire_n of_o the_o body_n so_o that_o for_o love_n of_o they_o he_o can_v execute_v that_o which_o he_o know_v to_o be_v very_o good_a do_v thou_o think_v that_o he_o be_v free_a no._n it_o may_v be_v thou_o iudge_v it_o a_o thing_n worthy_a a_o free_a man_n to_o be_v able_a to_o put_v in_o practice_n whatsoever_o he_o take_v to_o be_v good_a and_o contrariwise_o to_o be_v hinder_v from_o so_o do_v to_o be_v servile_a and_o slavish_a so_o it_o be_v thou_o believe_v then_o that_o no_o incontinent_a man_n be_v free_a yea_o true_o and_o that_o just_o think_v thou_o that_o incontinent_a man_n be_v hinder_v from_o do_v that_o which_o be_v honest_a or_o compel_v to_o commit_v vicious_a thing_n i_o think_v they_o be_v as_o much_o compel_v to_o do_v the_o one_o as_o hinder_v from_o practise_v the_o other_o but_o what_o master_n do_v thou_o think_v they_o to_o be_v who_o forbid_v well_o do_v and_o constrain_v man_n to_o embrace_v evil_a in_o good_a truth_n very_o wicked_a and_o do_v thou_o not_o think_v that_o bondage_n of_o all_o other_o most_o troublesome_a when_o one_o serve_v most_o wicked_a and_o naughty_a master_n yea._n then_o incontinent_a man_n be_v of_o all_o other_o most_o miserable_a of_o what_o estate_n or_o condition_n soever_o they_o be_v beside_o he_o that_o never_o think_v upon_o goodness_n but_o seek_v by_o all_o mean_n to_o fulfil_v his_o untamed_a desire_n of_o pleasure_n and_o lust_n have_v no_o more_o use_n of_o reason_n than_o beast_n have_v this_o wise_a philosopher_n teach_v we_o sufficient_o how_o hurtful_a and_o pernicious_a a_o thing_n it_o be_v to_o suffer_v the_o desire_n of_o the_o flesh_n to_o reign_v in_o we_o consider_v that_o they_o draw_v we_o vehement_o to_o the_o practice_n of_o they_o to_o our_o own_o destruction_n especial_o whoredom_n whoredom_n which_o bring_v with_o it_o all_o kind_n of_o mischief_n dissolve_v and_o weaken_v the_o body_n and_o offend_v all_o the_o virtue_n and_o good_n of_o the_o soul_n through_o she_o it_o come_v that_o man_n abase_v themselves_o so_o low_o as_o to_o submit_v both_o their_o body_n and_o soul_n to_o the_o inconstant_a will_n and_o unrulie_a desire_n of_o a_o foolish_a woman_n for_o we_o see_v some_o man_n so_o bewitch_v with_o a_o harlot_n that_o if_o need_v be_v and_o she_o command_v it_o they_o will_v hazard_v their_o honour_n and_o credit_n and_o oftentimes_o make_v themselves_o a_o example_n to_o a_o whole_a country_n upon_o a_o open_a scaffold_n and_o then_o they_o labour_v to_o cover_v their_o folly_n with_o this_o goodly_a name_n of_o love_n which_o be_v better_o term_v of_o euripides_n by_o the_o name_n of_o fury_n &_o madness_n in_o man_n for_o true_a &_o good_a love_n which_o be_v the_o fountain_n of_o friendship_n be_v always_o ground_v upon_o virtue_n &_o tend_v to_o that_o end_n but_o this_o slippery_a and_o loose_a love_n be_v a_o desire_n found_v upon_o the_o opinion_n of_o a_o good_a which_o in_o deed_n be_v a_o most_o pernicious_a evil_a and_o if_o adultery_n follow_v up_o it_o which_o adultery_n according_a to_o aristotle_n be_v a_o curious_a inquiry_n after_o another_o man_n love_n the_o vice_n be_v two_o fold_n more_o detestable_a and_o wicked_a because_o that_o he_o which_o commit_v it_o seek_v against_o all_o duty_n of_o nature_n to_o take_v away_o another_o man_n honour_n and_o reputation_n spoil_v he_o of_o that_o which_o he_o account_v most_o precious_a namely_o of_o the_o love_n and_o
as_o may_v serve_v for_o her_o profit_n for_o see_v philosophy_n woman_n as_o plato_n say_v have_v a_o soul_n as_o well_o as_o we_o and_o as_o quick_a a_o spirit_n yea_o oftentimes_o a_o more_o excellent_a spirit_n than_o we_o we_o must_v not_o think_v they_o uncapable_a of_o the_o goodly_a reason_n of_o philosophy_n wherein_o many_o of_o they_o have_v go_v beyond_o many_o philosopher_n knowledge_n and_o skill_n will_v keep_v a_o woman_n from_o other_o unmeete_a exercise_n and_o be_v ravish_v with_o her_o husband_n brave_a discourse_n she_o will_v contemn_v the_o loss_n of_o time_n in_o unprofitable_a matter_n she_o will_v never_o fall_v into_o that_o danger_n which_o oftentimes_o befall_v woman_n who_o conceive_v and_o bring_v forth_o by_o themselves_o strange_a counsel_n and_o extravagant_a passion_n when_o they_o receive_v not_o from_o elsewhere_o the_o seed_n of_o good_a speech_n and_o when_o their_o husband_n impart_v not_o unto_o they_o any_o sound_a doctrine_n the_o same_o as_o fable_n fain_o prevail_v more_o than_o the_o northern_a wind_n for_o the_o more_o the_o wind_n labour_v to_o get_v away_o a_o man_n gown_n and_o to_o that_o end_n blow_v more_o violent_o the_o hard_a do_v he_o gird_v up_o and_o restrain_v wind_n his_o garment_n but_o when_o the_o sun_n wax_v hot_a after_o the_o wind_n the_o man_n feel_v himself_o heat_v cast_v off_o his_o gown_n and_o afterward_o burn_v with_o heat_n he_o put_v off_o his_o coat_n and_o all_o so_o if_o husband_n go_v about_o to_o order_v their_o wife_n with_o their_o bare_a authority_n and_o by_o force_n they_o will_v strive_v against_o it_o and_o be_v offend_v but_o contrarywife_n be_v force_n admonish_v with_o reason_n they_o yield_v of_o themselves_o and_o take_v it_o patient_o the_o fool_n of_o this_o world_n common_o gird_v and_o mock_v that_o man_n who_o peradventure_o seem_v to_o be_v lead_v a_o little_a too_o much_o by_o his_o lawful_a wife_n &_o loyal_a spouse_n use_v more_o gentleness_n and_o courtesy_n towards_o she_o than_o rigour_n and_o command_v and_o yet_o you_o shall_v see_v themselves_o so_o strange_o bewitch_v by_o some_o strumpet_n that_o they_o fear_v not_o to_o hazard_v their_o life_n and_o honour_n in_o her_o service_n but_o it_o beseem_v a_o man_n a_o great_a deal_n better_a to_o be_v well_o like_v gentle_a and_o acceptable_a to_o a_o honest_a and_o virtuous_a wife_n than_o to_o abase_v himself_o to_o a_o common_a harlot_n and_o those_o man_n deceive_v themselves_o who_o have_v marry_v rich_a wife_n and_o of_o noble_a house_n study_v not_o to_o make_v they_o more_o honest_a honest_a and_o better_o qualify_v but_o to_o pull_v they_o down_o persuade_v themselves_o that_o they_o will_v come_v to_o better_a order_n when_o they_o have_v abase_v &_o bring_v they_o low_o whereas_o every_o one_o ought_v to_o maintain_v the_o dignity_n of_o his_o wife_n as_o he_o will_v do_v the_o just_a height_n of_o a_o horse_n and_o be_v skilful_a both_o in_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o to_o use_v the_o bridle_n well_o as_o it_o becomeme_v he_o beside_o a_o husband_n be_v not_o to_o rule_v his_o wife_n as_o a_o lord_n or_o master_n do_v his_o slave_n but_o as_o the_o soul_n do_v a_o wise_a man_n body_n through_o a_o mutual_a love_n and_o joint_a affection_n whereby_o he_o be_v bind_v unto_o she_o and_o as_o the_o soul_n may_v well_o be_v careful_a over_o the_o body_n although_o it_o become_v not_o a_o slave_n to_o the_o pleasure_n &_o inordinate_a affection_n thereof_o so_o a_o wise_a husband_n will_v behave_v himself_o by_o please_v and_o gratifi_v his_o wife_n in_o honest_a thing_n and_o by_o show_v that_o he_o love_v honour_n and_o virtue_n above_o all_o thing_n this_o will_v be_v a_o mean_a to_o make_v she_o as_o wise_a virtuous_a and_o honest_a as_o otherwise_o if_o himself_o be_v give_v to_o voluptuousness_n he_o shall_v cause_v she_o to_o like_v of_o courtesan_n condition_n and_o to_o become_v slippery_a and_o lascivious_a no_o man_n say_v cleobulus_n ought_v to_o chide_v or_o to_o other_o fawn_v upon_o his_o wife_n before_o other_o for_o the_o one_o be_v the_o point_n of_o a_o fool_n the_o other_o of_o a_o mad_a man_n socrates_n practise_v one_o of_o these_o point_n very_o well_o when_o xantippa_n his_o wife_n revile_v and_o chide_v he_o in_o the_o end_n be_v carry_v headlong_o with_o wrath_n overthrow_v table_n and_o all_o whereupon_o euthydemus_n who_o he_o have_v bring_v home_o to_o sup_v with_o he_o rise_v up_o to_o depart_v but_o socrates_n not_o show_v himself_o great_o wife_n move_v or_o angry_a with_o his_o wife_n stay_v he_o and_o say_v what_o do_v you_o not_o remember_v my_o friend_n that_o as_o we_o be_v at_o dinner_n with_o you_o the_o other_o day_n a_o hen_n leap_v upon_o the_o table_n and_o do_v as_o much_o to_o we_o and_o yet_o we_o be_v not_o angry_a therefore_o solon_n ordain_v that_o the_o husband_n shall_v go_v see_v his_o wife_n thrice_o a_o month_n at_o the_o least_o not_o for_o pleasure_n but_o to_o yield_v unto_o she_o as_o it_o be_v by_o obligation_n the_o pledge_n and_o gauge_n of_o friendship_n through_o honour_n grace_n and_o loyalty_n which_o ought_v to_o increase_v daily_o and_o as_o city_n at_o sundry_a time_n renew_v these_o alliaunce_n which_o they_o have_v one_o with_o another_o so_o this_o lawemaker_n will_v have_v the_o alliance_n of_o marriage_n that_o i_o may_v so_o speak_v renew_a by_o the_o speech_n family_n use_v at_o such_o greeting_n and_o visitation_n we_o see_v daily_o what_o misery_n and_o offence_n light_a upon_o house_n when_o the_o head_n of_o the_o family_n have_v no_o care_n to_o rule_v and_o guide_v it_o whereupon_o also_o the_o woman_n think_v that_o they_o be_v despise_v and_o small_o belove_v and_o in_o truth_n they_o have_v occasion_n give_v they_o so_o to_o think_v when_o their_o husband_n seldom_o keep_v they_o company_n the_o pilot_n that_o give_v over_o his_o ship_n to_o the_o mercy_n of_o the_o wave_n declare_v evident_o that_o he_o care_v not_o for_o lose_v that_o which_o be_v in_o it_o a_o wife_n without_o her_o husband_n be_v expose_v to_o many_o ambush_n and_o assault_n that_o be_v hardly_o sustain_v husband_n to_o this_o purpose_n i_o remember_v a_o notable_a history_n write_v in_o the_o chronicle_n of_o russia_n namely_o that_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o novogradum_n which_o at_o this_o day_n be_v the_o chief_a &_o principal_a seat_n of_o that_o country_n be_v go_v into_o graecia_n to_o besiege_v the_o town_n of_o corsun_n where_o they_o continue_v for_o the_o space_n of_o seven_o year_n their_o wife_n in_o the_o mean_a while_n weary_v with_o their_o long_a abode_n there_o marry_v their_o servant_n the_o husband_n afterward_o return_v conqueror_n find_v their_o slave_n in_o the_o field_n who_o give_v they_o battle_n and_o have_v the_o better_a of_o they_o nevertheless_o in_o the_o end_n the_o slave_n be_v vanquish_v and_o the_o most_o part_n of_o the_o woman_n move_v with_o indignation_n for_o that_o overthrow_n hang_v themselves_o now_o as_o touch_v that_o other_o point_n mention_v by_o that_o other_o wise_a man_n cleobulus_n namely_o that_o a_o man_n must_v not_o dally_v with_o his_o wife_n in_o the_o presence_n of_o other_o cato_z deprive_v a_o senator_n of_o rome_n from_o the_o senatoriall_a dignity_n because_o he_o kiss_v his_o wife_n in_o his_o daughter_n presence_n this_o be_v somewhat_o too_o extreme_a but_o howsoever_o it_o be_v as_o plato_n admonish_v man_n grow_v in_o year_n to_o show_v themselves_o shamefast_a before_o the_o young_a sort_n to_o the_o end_n that_o they_o also_o shall_v learn_v to_o behave_v themselves_o reverent_o and_o wary_o so_o sure_o this_o precept_n be_v especial_o to_o be_v keep_v between_o man_n and_o wife_n that_o they_o may_v be_v a_o example_n of_o honour_n and_o chastity_n unto_o all_o wife_n likewise_o the_o man_n must_v divide_v the_o office_n and_o affair_n of_o the_o house_n with_o his_o wife_n give_v her_o authority_n over_o all_o thing_n in_o his_o absence_n and_o in_o his_o presence_n also_o over_o household_n matter_n &_o such_o thing_n as_o be_v more_o proper_a &_o agreeable_a to_o that_o sex_n cause_v she_o to_o be_v fear_v reverence_a and_o obey_v of_o the_o child_n men-seruant_n and_o maidservant_n as_o himself_o but_o as_o if_o one_o take_v two_o sound_n that_o agree_v well_o the_o base_a be_v always_o more_o hear_v so_o in_o a_o well_o rule_v and_o order_v house_n all_o thing_n be_v do_v by_o the_o consent_n of_o both_o party_n but_o yet_o so_o that_o it_o be_v always_o apparent_a that_o thing_n be_v do_v by_o the_o direction_n counsel_n and_o invention_n of_o the_o husband_n for_o a_o family_n will_v suffer_v but_o one_o head_n one_o master_n family_n &_o by_o reason_n and_o that_o the_o other_o part_n be_v of_o itself_o partaker_n of_o reason_n and_o in_o another_o place_n this_o philosopher_n say_v that_o there_o be_v three_o thing_n from_o whence_o humane_a action_n proceed_v namely_o sense_n understanding_n and_o appetite_n many_o other_o both_o ancient_a and_o late_a writer_n make_v four_o part_n of_o the_o soul_n understanding_n soul_n reason_n anger_n &_o desire_n the_o understanding_n lift_v the_o soul_n up_o to_o heaven_n to_o the_o contemplation_n of_o divine_a &_o intellectual_a thing_n reason_n guide_v the_o soul_n by_o prudence_n in_o all_o her_o function_n anger_n be_v rule_v and_o moderate_v by_o the_o virtue_n of_o magnanimitic_a and_o desire_n be_v govern_v by_o temperance_n of_o these_o a_o very_a harmonical_a justice_n be_v frame_v which_o give_v to_o every_o part_n of_o the_o soul_n that_o which_o belong_v unto_o it_o but_o the_o most_o sensible_a common_a and_o true_a opinion_n which_o the_o wise_a among_o the_o philosopher_n have_v soul_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v that_o which_o divide_v it_o into_o two_o part_n only_o under_o which_o all_o the_o rest_n be_v comprise_v the_o one_o be_v spiritual_a and_o intelligible_a where_o the_o discourse_n of_o reason_n be_v the_o other_o brutish_a which_o be_v the_o sensual_a will_n of_o itself_o wander_v and_o disorder_a where_o all_o motion_n contrary_a to_o reason_n and_o all_o evil_a desire_n have_v their_o dwell_n among_o all_o the_o philosophical_a discourse_n of_o the_o soul_n write_v by_o these_o great_a personage_n this_o error_n be_v very_o great_a when_o they_o attribute_v such_o a_o strength_n and_o power_n to_o reason_n which_o they_o say_v be_v resident_a in_o the_o soul_n as_o a_o lamp_n to_o guide_v the_o understanding_n and_o as_o a_o queen_n to_o moderate_v the_o will_n as_o that_o by_o it_o alone_o a_o man_n may_v well_o and_o just_o govern_v himself_o now_o although_o we_o know_v that_o this_o reason_n of_o man_n be_v of_o itself_o whole_o deprave_a &_o corrupt_a yet_o we_o may_v say_v well_o enough_o that_o the_o soul_n which_o be_v spirit_n and_o life_n can_v be_v divide_v be_v immortal_a because_o whatsoever_o be_v divide_v dissolve_v and_o part_v a_o sunder_o and_o whatsoever_o be_v dissolve_v perish_v nevertheless_o it_o may_v be_v say_v to_o be_v compound_v and_o make_v subject_n during_o the_o conjunction_n thereof_o with_o part_n the_o body_n to_o these_o two_o principal_a part_n of_o understanding_n and_o will_n the_o understanding_n serve_v to_o conceive_v and_o comprehend_v all_o thing_n propound_v unto_o we_o and_o to_o discern_v and_o judge_v what_o we_o ought_v either_o to_o approve_v and_o allow_v or_o what_o to_o refuse_v and_o reject_v the_o will_n be_v that_o which_o execute_v and_o bring_v to_o effect_v whatsoever_o the_o understanding_n judge_v to_o be_v good_a and_o contrariwise_o fly_v from_o that_o which_o it_o reprove_v and_o condemn_v and_o herein_o we_o agree_v with_o the_o philosopher_n that_o the_o understanding_n under_o which_o we_o comprehend_v the_o sense_n be_v as_o the_o governor_n and_o captain_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o that_o the_o will_n depend_v of_o it_o but_o withal_o we_o say_v that_o both_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o be_v so_o corrupt_v and_o alter_v from_o their_o nature_n the_o understanding_n be_v obscure_v and_o dim_v with_o the_o cloud_n of_o darkness_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o first_o man_n sin_n descend_v upon_o corrupt_v all_o his_o posterity_n through_o hereditary_a and_o natural_a filthiness_n and_o the_o will_n in_o such_o sort_n corrupt_v by_o this_o disobedience_n and_o so_o weaken_a and_o make_v feeble_a to_o all_o goodness_n that_o if_o there_o be_v none_o other_o guide_n come_v from_o above_o to_o teach_v the_o understanding_n and_o to_o direct_v and_o lead_v the_o will_n i_o mean_v regeneration_n by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n both_o of_o they_o can_v but_o do_v evil_a draw_v the_o soul_n with_o they_o to_o utter_v ruin_n and_o perdition_n by_o cause_v she_o to_o consent_v to_o the_o law_n of_o her_o member_n which_o be_v the_o body_n and_o flesh_n full_a 23._o of_o ignorance_n of_o obscure_a darkness_n of_o forwardness_n misery_n calamity_n ignominy_n shame_n death_n and_o condemnation_n notwithstanding_o if_o in_o the_o corruptible_a heavy_a and_o gross_a lump_n of_o the_o body_n within_o which_o the_o soul_n be_v contain_v we_o find_v matter_n of_o praise_n and_o of_o the_o contemplation_n of_o heavenly_a thing_n what_o shall_v we_o say_v of_o that_o which_o be_v immortal_a soul_n which_o in_o a_o moment_n in_o her_o discourse_n and_o cogitation_n go_v through_o the_o whole_a heaven_n compass_v the_o earth_n about_o sail_v all_o over_o the_o sea_n without_o which_o the_o body_n move_v not_o at_o all_o and_o all_o the_o beauty_n thereof_o turn_v sudden_o into_o putrefaction_n this_o only_o can_v make_v a_o man_n happy_a both_o in_o this_o and_o in_o the_o other_o life_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o treasure_n of_o wisdom_n the_o understanding_n whereof_o be_v proper_a unto_o it_o yea_o this_o be_v the_o only_a instrument_n whereby_o a_o man_n may_v behold_v the_o divine_a nature_n this_o be_v invisible_a and_o can_v be_v perceive_v by_o any_o natural_a sense_n this_o be_v contemplative_a and_o active_a at_o one_o and_o the_o same_o time_n this_o behold_v present_a speech_n we_o may_v well_o say_v that_o the_o soul_n be_v so_o great_a and_o divine_a a_o thing_n that_o it_o be_v a_o very_a hard_a matter_n to_o comprehend_v it_o by_o reason_n but_o altogether_o incomprehensible_a by_o the_o outward_a sense_n and_o that_o all_o man_n felicity_n as_o well_o present_a as_o to_o come_v depend_v of_o the_o soul_n when_o be_v regenerate_v as_o have_v learn_v that_o as_o the_o body_n use_v many_o instrument_n whereof_o it_o be_v compound_v and_o which_o be_v proper_a unto_o it_o so_o the_o soul_n be_v much_o more_o noble_a excellent_a and_o
