concupiscence_n not_o to_o be_v sin_n against_o the_o moral_a law_n and_o many_o sin_n to_o be_v venial_a and_o not_o mortal_a which_o therefore_o do_v not_o hinder_v a_o person_n merit_n or_o acceptation_n nay_o not_o their_o perfection_n and_o fulfil_n of_o the_o law_n which_o they_o suppose_v to_o be_v possible_a these_o be_v the_o ground_n they_o lie_v for_o the_o through_a of_o their_o justification_n and_o from_o these_o they_o draw_v several_a conclusion_n that_o seem_v contrary_a as_o that_o man_n may_v merit_v increase_n and_o perseverance_n in_o grace_n and_o that_o ex_fw-la condigno_fw-la that_o they_o may_v come_v to_o a_o perfection_n of_o righteousness_n in_o respect_n of_o their_o inherent_a holiness_n and_o fulfil_n of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n that_o one_o may_v supererogate_v and_o so_o that_o there_o must_v be_v a_o store-house_n of_o satisfaction_n for_o though_o they_o say_v one_o can_v merit_v for_o another_o yet_o there_o be_v a_o consideration_n of_o merit_n and_o satisfaction_n both_o in_o all_o their_o good_a work_n they_o may_v satisfy_v for_o another_o when_o they_o do_v or_o suffer_v more_o than_o may_v expiate_v their_o own_o guilt_n which_o will_v therefore_o be_v useless_a if_o it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v extend_v to_o other_o saint_n as_o bellar._n fear_v not_o to_o speak_v lib._n 1._o de_fw-la indulgentiis_fw-la cap._n 4._o col_fw-fr 1160._o upon_o this_o they_o find_v their_o indulgence_n and_o treasure_n of_o saint_n merit_n which_o the_o pope_n by_o the_o fullness_n of_o his_o power_n do_v apply_v to_o be_v impute_v to_o these_o who_o want_v of_o their_o own_o yet_o this_o way_n of_o imputation_n be_v always_o reject_v by_o they_o in_o reference_n to_o our_o be_v justify_v by_o the_o merit_n of_o christ_n they_o assert_v also_o as_o they_o may_v well_o do_v that_o this_o justification_n be_v uncertain_a to_o any_o so_o that_o none_o can_v conclude_v whether_o he_o be_v real_o so_o or_o not_o yea_o they_o say_v that_o it_o may_v be_v lose_v and_o one_o justify_v so_o now_o may_v through_o the_o want_n of_o good_a work_n or_o his_o sinfulness_n perish_v or_o if_o he_o be_v again_o recover_v it_o must_v be_v by_o absolution_n and_o the_o sacrament_n of_o penance_n wherein_o the_o first_o justification_n be_v to_o be_v renew_v and_o grace_n again_o to_o be_v confer_v so_o that_o although_o he_o get_v the_o first_o justification_n by_o christ_n merit_n only_o yet_o may_v that_o be_v fall_v from_o as_o adam_n fall_v from_o his_o covenant-state_n if_o that_o habitual_a grace_n be_v not_o improven_v in_o the_o practice_n of_o holy_a duty_n this_o be_v a_o short_a view_n of_o their_o contrivance_n of_o the_o way_n of_o justification_n which_o we_o have_v lay_v down_o out_o of_o themselves_o and_o have_v cite_v suarez_n most_o frequent_o because_o he_o pretend_v to_o a_o midway_n in_o these_o question_n wherein_o many_o of_o their_o schoolman_n do_v run_v into_o extreme_n and_o they_o want_v not_o great_a confusion_n difference_n and_o contradiction_n among_o themselves_o in_o many_o of_o these_o tenet_n so_o that_o it_o be_v no_o marvel_n to_o find_v different_a expression_n of_o their_o judgement_n in_o these_o thing_n let_v we_o now_o inquire_v if_o according_a to_o the_o former_a ground_n a_o sinner_n that_o be_v pursue_v by_o the_o law_n may_v with_o confidence_n expect_v to_o be_v justify_v and_o absolve_v before_o the_o tribunal_n of_o god_n justice_n and_o we_o confident_o assert_v that_o according_a to_o these_o ground_n no_o flesh_n live_a can_v be_v justify_v which_o this_o one_o argument_n may_v make_v out_o no_o sinner_n can_v expect_v justification_n or_o pardon_n of_o sin_n but_o according_a to_o the_o ground_n and_o term_n lay_v down_o in_o the_o gospel_n but_o this_o way_n be_v not_o such_o ergo_fw-la etc._n etc._n or_o that_o contrivance_n of_o justification_n which_o do_v overturn_v almost_o full_o most_o if_o not_o all_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o be_v utter_o inconsistent_a with_o the_o same_o can_v be_v the_o way_n how_o a_o sinner_n may_v be_v justify_v but_o this_o be_v such_o etc._n etc._n for_o make_v out_o of_o this_o we_o shall_v first_o propose_v some_o general_a consideration_n 2._o more_o particular_o touch_v some_o inconsistency_n of_o the_o same_o 3._o remove_v some_o objection_n and_o 4._o resume_v the_o conclusion_n the_o first_o general_n we_o propose_v to_o be_v consider_v be_v this_o that_o the_o way_n which_o god_n have_v lay_v down_o in_o the_o gospel_n for_o attain_v of_o life_n by_o christ_n jesus_n do_v formal_o differ_v from_o that_o way_n of_o attain_v life_n that_o he_o propound_v to_o adam_n hence_o these_o two_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o grace_n and_o their_o condition_n be_v frequent_o and_o direct_o oppose_v in_o the_o scripture_n as_o be_v different_a and_o opposite_a in_o respect_n of_o the_o account_n upon_o which_o man_n be_v to_o expect_v life_n see_v rom._n 10.6_o 7_o etc._n etc._n gal._n 3._o but_o this_o way_n lay_v down_o be_v in_o matter_n and_o form_v the_o same_o with_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n in_o this_o respect_n because_o it_o sound_v a_o man_n hope_n of_o expect_v life_n and_o heaven_n upon_o the_o merit_n of_o his_o own_o work_n and_o his_o observe_v of_o the_o command_n which_o these_o their_o ground_n do_v confirm_v 1._o that_o they_o do_v compare_v his_o work_n and_o merit_n by_o it_o to_o adam_n before_o he_o fall_v and_o suppose_v this_o to_o succeed_v now_o in_o the_o room_n of_o that_o as_o in_o the_o forecited_a author_n lib._n 12._o cap._n 19_o pag._n 487_o be_v clear_a 2._o that_o they_o state_n the_o term_n of_o life_n in_o these_o word_n if_o thou_o will_v enter_v life_n keep_v the_o command_n and_o cast_v the_o labourer_n to_o receive_v their_o hire_n matth._n 20._o and_o so_o from_o this_o they_o say_v christ_n merit_n have_v procure_v the_o lord_n re-enter_v of_o a_o covenant_n with_o we_o wherein_o he_o promise_v happiness_n to_o out_o work_v as_o the_o condition_n thereof_o ibid._n pag._n 488._o and_o say_v there_o be_v no_o promise_n of_o the_o receptation_n of_o a_o sinner_n but_o upon_o this_o that_o infer_v no_o alteration_n of_o the_o way_n or_o term_n hold_v out_o in_o that_o promise_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o condition_n thereof_o although_o it_o show_v a_o different_a ground_n upon_o
