on_o the_o other_o hand_n the_o lord_n jesus_n come_v to_o be_v a_o saviour_n to_o all_o those_o that_o come_v unto_o he_o yea_o that_o when_o he_o call_v refuse_v not_o to_o hear_v but_o be_v willing_a to_o suffer_v the_o reproof_n of_o wisdom_n to_o enter_v into_o their_o soul_n yea_o he_o will_v save_v all_o these_o with_o a_o everlasting_a salvation_n belove_a he_o come_v to_o bring_v salvation_n to_o such_o in_o all_o the_o part_n of_o it_o first_o he_o justifi_v such_o from_o all_o that_o from_o which_o they_o can_v not_o be_v justify_v by_o the_o law_n of_o moses_n yea_o he_o have_v power_n to_o forgive_v sin_n and_o he_o will_v justify_v they_o free_o through_o the_o work_n of_o redemption_n but_o further_a i_o pray_v you_o observe_v the_o lord_n jesus_n will_v give_v repentance_n to_o and_o gracious_o melt_v and_o soften_v the_o heart_n of_o poor_a sinner_n if_o they_o do_v but_o hearken_v to_o his_o voice_n it_o be_v the_o very_a end_n of_o his_o come_n to_o give_v repentance_n as_o well_o as_o remission_n of_o sin_n and_o he_o will_v work_v your_o heart_n to_o repentance_n if_o you_o do_v not_o oppose_v the_o work_n of_o his_o grace_n and_o continue_v to_o do_v it_o yea_o although_o you_o have_v heart_n never_o so_o hard_a he_o will_v soften_v they_o himself_o by_o his_o own_o spirit_n if_o you_o do_v not_o harden_v your_o own_o bear_n but_o wait_v at_o wisdom_n gate_n then_o shall_v you_o see_v how_o gracious_o he_o will_v manifest_v himself_o at_o last_o indeed_o if_o so_o be_v that_o a_o soul_n be_v to_o work_v repentance_n in_o his_o own_o heart_n or_o must_v see_v that_o it_o be_v wrought_v there_o before_o he_o may_v either_o go_v for_o mercy_n or_o have_v a_o ground_n to_o expect_v it_o that_o be_v enough_o to_o break_v the_o heart_n that_o which_o be_v lose_v and_o therefore_o although_o a_o person_n be_v never_o so_o hard-hearted_a and_o unbelieving_a and_o although_o he_o be_v never_o so_o dead_a if_o he_o have_v never_o a_o spark_n of_o life_n in_o he_o if_o he_o will_v but_o hearken_v to_o the_o voice_n of_o christ_n christ_n will_v give_v he_o life_n again_o another_o work_n that_o christ_n come_v to_o do_v be_v to_o subdue_v sin_n and_o although_o it_o be_v never_o so_o strong_a he_o will_v subdue_v it_o it_o can_v never_o be_v too_o strong_a for_o he_o when_o a_o poor_a soul_n look_v about_o he_o and_o see_v a_o multitude_n of_o strong_a corruption_n within_o he_o and_o then_o look_v again_o and_o see_v another_o multitude_n of_o strong_a temptation_n and_o snare_n without_o he_o round_o about_o and_o withal_o discern_v the_o weakness_n of_o his_o own_o heart_n and_o see_v how_o
believe_v here_o you_o may_v see_v plain_o not_o only_o that_o preach_n save_v man_n soul_n but_o also_o what_o preach_v it_o be_v that_o do_v it_o i_o pray_v you_o note_v it_o well_o you_o may_v see_v the_o cure_n that_o be_v necessary_a for_o salvation_n by_o the_o disease_n that_o hinder_v it_o it_o be_v very_o evident_a the_o world_n disease_n that_o hinder_v their_o salvation_n be_v this_o they_o know_v not_o god_n therefore_o it_o must_v be_v such_o preach_v as_o make_v god_n know_v to_o the_o soul_n that_o must_v bring_v it_o to_o believe_a and_o so_o to_o salvation_n i_o shall_v name_v you_o but_o one_o text_n more_o and_o that_o be_v in_o the_o 2_o thes_n 1.7_o 8._o when_o the_o lord_n jesus_n shall_v be_v reveal_v from_o heaven_n with_o his_o mighty_a angel_n in_o flame_a fire_n take_v vengeance_n on_o they_o that_o know_v not_o god_n take_v notice_n i_o pray_v you_o that_o one_o of_o the_o two_o great_a sin_n which_o christ_n will_v come_v to_o punish_v with_o this_o point_n unto_o you_o and_o to_o show_v you_o in_o what_o particular_n the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o of_o christ_n be_v of_o such_o use_n and_o help_v to_o you_o in_o point_n of_o believe_a and_o so_o of_o salvation_n first_o then_o my_o belove_a a_o person_n that_o know_v god_n in_o his_o son_n be_v thereby_o keep_v from_o desperation_n and_o see_v in_o god_n a_o ground_n of_o boldness_n and_o encouragement_n to_o cast_v itself_o upon_o his_o free_a grace_n which_o one_o ignorant_a of_o god_n can_v do_v but_o he_o that_o know_v his_o name_n will_v trust_v in_o he_o psal_n the_o ground_n of_o this_o confidence_n be_v the_o name_n of_o god_n you_o know_v that_o in_o a_o very_a great_a number_n of_o place_n the_o lord_n have_v manifest_v himself_o a_o god_n of_o mercy_n and_o love_n yea_o a_o sin-for-giving_a god_n and_o a_o gracious_a god_n but_o i_o shall_v name_v you_o but_o one_o text_n for_o this_o exod._n 34.6_o the_o lord_n there_o proclaim_v his_o own_o name_n by_o which_o he_o will_v be_v know_v for_o ever_o jehova_n strong_a merciful_a and_o gracious_a etc._n etc._n and_o you_o must_v know_v that_o god_n be_v not_o one_o thing_n &_o his_o name_n another_o neither_o be_v he_o one_o and_o his_o mind_n intention_n and_o decree_n or_o desire_n another_o but_o he_o be_v unchangeable_o &_o eternal_o the_o same_o for_o ever_o now_o i_o pray_v you_o consider_v it_o grace_n and_o mercy_n be_v not_o quality_n in_o god_n but_o in_o he_o it_o be_v nature_n and_o it_o be_v his_o essence_n and_o unchangeable_a be_v and_o therefore_o he_o do_v not_o nor_o can_v want_v mercy_n for_o the_o most_o ungodly_a yea_o the_o very_a hypocrite_n and_o enemy_n he_o have_v in_o the_o whole_a world_n and_o the_o reason_n wherefore_o any_o soul_n miss_v of_o mercy_n be_v not_o through_o any_o want_n of_o mercy_n in_o god_n no_o nor_o for_o want_v of_o mercy_n to_o that_o soul_n in_o particular_a that_o miss_v of_o it_o but_o because_o it_o will_v not_o stand_v with_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o other_o attribute_n in_o some_o case_n to_o show_v mercy_n for_o you_o must_v know_v that_o god_n can_v do_v nothing_o unworthy_a of_o his_o own_o glorious_a name_n and_o be_v and_o therefore_o such_o person_n as_o will_v not_o come_v to_o christ_n and_o that_o choose_v darkness_n rather_o than_o light_v and_o turn_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n into_o wantonness_n and_o do_v this_o wilful_o and_o obstinate_o it_o do_v not_o stand_v with_o the_o wisdom_n justice_n and_o sovereignty_n of_o god_n to_o give_v eternal_a life_n to_o these_o person_n but_o if_o person_n do_v not_o wilful_o refuse_v there_o own_o mercy_n there_o be_v that_o grace_n in_o god_n which_o will_n and_o do_v extend_v itself_o wheresoever_o it_o can_v without_o dishonour_n to_o his_o justice_n and_o prudence_n now_o where_o a_o person_n know_v this_o and_o that_o which_o may_v be_v know_v of_o god_n and_o of_o christ_n that_o be_v reveal_v in_o the_o word_n and_o aught_o to_o be_v know_v i_o say_v such_o a_o one_o can_v but_o see_v sufficient_a ground_n to_o come_v to_o god_n and_o to_o depend_v upon_o he_o for_o mercy_n nay_o further_o there_o be_v no_o objection_n whatsoever_o can_v be_v raise_v by_o the_o devil_n against_o a_o sinner_n come_v to_o christ_n but_o he_o that_o know_v what_o may_v be_v know_v of_o god_n and_o of_o christ_n will_v have_v wherewithal_o to_o answer_v it_o for_o if_o the_o devil_n come_v and_o say_v it_o be_v true_a as_o great_a sinner_n as_o thou_o have_v be_v have_v be_v pardon_v and_o so_o may_v est_fw-la but_o he_o have_v also_o promise_v grace_n to_o ungracious_a one_o as_o in_o prov._n 1.22_o 23._o there_o convert_v grace_n be_v promise_v to_o scornner_n if_o they_o will_v yet_o hearken_v to_o god_n and_o many_o more_o like_a promise_n there_o be_v but_o it_o may_v be_v the_o devil_n will_v further_o object_v and_o say_v it_o be_v true_a indeed_o god_n be_v gracious_a to_o invite_v unconvert_v sinner_n to_o seek_v he_o and_o have_v promise_v they_o mercy_n as_o in_o isa_n 59.6_o 7._o but_o alas_o thy_o case_n be_v worse_a than_o so_o for_o thou_o have_v no_o mind_n to_o seek_v he_o but_o be_v for_o ever_o lose_v a_o very_a slave_n to_o sin_n and_o the_o very_a captive_a of_o the_o devil_n take_v by_o he_o at_o his_o will_n yea_o say_v the_o soul_n that_o know_v god_n and_o christ_n satan_n thou_o can_v not_o well_o say_v worse_o of_o i_o than_o i_o do_v deserve_v yet_o be_v there_o good_a ground_n for_o i_o to_o go_v to_o god_n for_o mercy_n and_o to_o trust_v in_o he_o also_o for_o he_o have_v send_v his_o son_n to_o seek_v and_o to_o save_v those_o that_o be_v lose_v and_o although_o i_o can_v yet_o bring_v my_o heart_n to_o seek_v he_o as_o i_o shall_v yet_o christ_n be_v faithful_a and_o will_v do_v the_o work_n he_o have_v undertake_v and_o seek_v such_o lose_a one_o as_o i_o be_o and_o although_o i_o be_o a_o slave_n and_o a_o captive_a to_o the_o devil_n yet_o i_o know_v christ_n come_v to_o set_v at_o liberty_n such_o captive_n yea_o and_o i_o know_v that_o whatsoever_o my_o sin_n have_v be_v or_o whatever_o my_o lust_n be_v for_o strength_n my_o soul_n disease_n can_v be_v too_o great_a for_o christ_n to_o cure_v all_o the_o end_n of_o the_o earth_n and_o i_o although_o i_o be_v the_o worst_a in_o the_o company_n may_v look_v to_o he_o and_o be_v save_v save_v from_o sin_n as_o well_o as_o from_o wrath_n and_o he_o work_v repentance_n as_o well_o as_o give_v
best_a ability_n that_o these_o time_n do_v afford_v but_o only_o for_o these_o reason_n i_o have_v now_o do_v it_o first_o i_o find_v some_o such_o motion_n fly_v abroad_o both_o in_o discourse_n and_o in_o print_n about_o this_o subject_n which_o in_o my_o judgement_n savour_v not_o well_o second_o i_o do_v not_o find_v able_a man_n man_n of_o knowledge_n such_o as_o i_o will_v be_v glad_a to_o provoke_v to_o this_o work_n so_o forward_o to_o bring_v forth_o light_a as_o other_o to_o bring_v forth_o darkness_n and_o if_o they_o have_v it_o be_v more_o than_o i_o know_v three_o the_o matter_n i_o have_v speak_v to_o fall_v in_o my_o way_n and_o i_o think_v i_o may_v do_v well_o and_o it_o be_v my_o duty_n to_o bring_v forth_o my_o mite_n in_o such_o a_o time_n as_o this_o wherein_o i_o find_v so_o many_o cast_a vail_n over_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n and_o of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n now_o therefore_o i_o do_v beseech_v you_o serious_o to_o consider_v of_o that_o which_o have_v be_v say_v unto_o you_o take_v heed_n of_o look_v upon_o our_o lord_n jesus_n as_o a_o mere_a creature_n lest_o your_o faith_n fail_v you_o in_o the_o day_n of_o temptation_n if_o the_o work_n of_o redemption_n be_v but_o consider_v how_o great_a it_o be_v what_o a_o price_n must_v be_v lay_v down_o before_o this_o work_n can_v be_v do_v and_o that_o law_n which_o in_o that_o condition_n in_o which_o man_n once_o stand_v will_v have_v be_v his_o life_n now_o he_o can_v expect_v nothing_o from_o it_o as_o the_o case_n stand_v but_o only_a death_n but_o all_o the_o life_n and_o pardon_v grace_n that_o now_o come_v to_o poor_a man_n come_v only_o through_o the_o blood_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n now_o except_o a_o man_n know_v the_o worth_n and_o all-sufficiency_n of_o christ_n that_o he_o be_v perfect_o able_a to_o remove_v all_o the_o curse_n which_o his_o sin_n have_v deserve_v and_o also_o able_a to_o procure_v he_o all_o the_o blessing_n his_o soul_n stand_v in_o need_n of_o it_o will_v be_v very_o hard_o if_o not_o altogether_o impossible_a to_o rest_v upon_o he_o in_o the_o day_n of_o trial_n and_o so_o likewise_o when_o a_o man_n shall_v come_v to_o see_v what_o a_o great_a work_n it_o be_v to_o change_v the_o heart_n of_o man_n to_o subdue_v sin_n and_o to_o sanctify_v the_o soul_n and_o when_o he_o shall_v see_v the_o barrenness_n of_o his_o heart_n in_o the_o grace_n and_o fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n also_o and_o withal_o consider_v what_o a_o degree_n of_o perfection_n all_o those_o be_v bring_v unto_o that_o inherit_v eternal_a life_n and_o then_o mind_v that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v he_o that_o have_v undertake_v to_o carry_v on_o this_o hard_a and_o to_o man_n this_o impossible_a work_n if_o now_o he_o be_v not_o establish_v in_o the_o knowledge_n and_o firm_a belief_n of_o this_o that_o the_o holy_a spirit_n that_o carry_v on_o this_o work_n be_v the_o only_a true_a god_n i_o say_v except_o a_o man_n believe_v and_o know_v this_o he_o can_v have_v little_a ground_n to_o hope_n or_o believe_v that_o ever_o it_o will_v come_v to_o perfection_n but_o wherefore_o shall_v any_o man_n be_v so_o despair_n and_o conclude_v that_o he_o be_v but_o a_o hypocrite_n at_o the_o best_a and_o that_o there_o be_v no_o hope_n for_o he_o and_o one_o day_n he_o think_v it_o be_v a_o duty_n to_o believe_v and_o another_o day_n he_o think_v there_o be_v no_o ground_n for_o he_o so_o to_o do_v and_o thus_o the_o poot_n soul_n be_v unstable_a and_o toss_v like_o a_o ship_n in_o a_o tempest_n one_o while_o
