who_o deny_v this_o doctrine_n and_o plead_v so_o much_o for_o man_n freewill_n they_o do_v and_o must_v hold_v a_o fall_n from_o grace_n though_o god_n love_v they_o now_o they_o be_v not_o sure_a to_o continue_v in_o his_o love_n nor_o never_o will_v be_v till_o they_o run_v up_o all_o their_o hope_n into_o elect_v love._n when_o once_o they_o see_v that_o god_n have_v love_v they_o from_o everlasting_a which_o they_o may_v do_v by_o resolve_v all_o the_o present_a fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n into_o election_n as_o the_o scripture_n teach_v we_o they_o can_v strong_o argue_v from_o the_o unchangeableness_n of_o god_n that_o he_o who_o have_v love_v they_o from_o everlasting_a will_v love_v they_o to_o everlasting_a for_o who_o he_o so_o love_v he_o always_o love_v to_o the_o for_o bare_a election_n if_o you_o know_v it_o alter_v no_o man_n state_n many_o of_o the_o elect_a of_o god_n lie_v long_o in_o a_o unregenerate_a state_n election_n be_v never_o in_o scripture_n bring_v in_o as_o a_o proof_n of_o grace_n in_o we_o but_o grace_n in_o we_o be_v bring_v in_o as_o a_o proof_n of_o our_o election_n to_o prevent_v mistake_n in_o some_o convince_v though_o yet_o to_o study_v your_o present_a state_n well_o you_o will_v say_v what_o be_v we_o to_o understand_v by_o the_o present_a state_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o how_o shall_v we_o know_v what_o that_o be_v answ._n the_o present_a state_n of_o our_o soul_n lie_v in_o the_o relation_n we_o stand_v in_o either_o to_o heaven_n or_o hell_n in_o that_o capacity_n we_o be_v in_o for_o eternal_a salvation_n i_o still_o remain_v under_o such_o temptation_n such_o affliction_n i_o will_v never_o believe_v i_o be_o a_o child_n of_o god_n you_o may_v say_v and_o believe_v what_o you_o please_v but_o i_o know_v no_o word_n of_o god_n from_o one_o end_n of_o the_o bible_n to_o the_o other_o that_o say_v as_o you_o say_v there_o be_v no_o end_n of_o these_o objection_n you_o will_v be_v sure_a to_o hold_v to_o your_o opinion_n you_o give_v so_o much_o credit_n to_o yourself_o and_o so_o little_a to_o the_o word_n in_o that_o case_n that_o all_o we_o say_v from_o thence_o in_o answer_n to_o your_o doubt_n signify_v nothing_o whereas_o if_o you_o ground_v your_o scruple_n upon_o any_o word_n of_o god_n we_o can_v answer_v you_o by_o some_o other_o word_n of_o equal_a authority_n with_o you_o and_o then_o we_o shall_v be_v hear_v and_o be_v able_a to_o satisfy_v you_o by_o reconcile_a scripture_n with_o scripture_n and_o consequent_o you_o to_o yourself_o it_o may_v be_v some_o fearful_a saint_n or_o some_o secure_a sinner_n will_v object_v and_o say_v i_o be_o not_o like_a to_o understand_v my_o present_a state_n this_o way_n for_o i_o can_v believe_v the_o word_n against_o my_o own_o sense_n and_o experience_n as_o i_o think_v to_o the_o contrary_n have_v already_o speak_v to_o doubt_v saint_n i_o will_v suppose_v this_o objection_n to_o be_v make_v by_o some_o secure_a sinner_n i_o answer_v admit_v this_o viz._n that_o you_o can_v believe_v etc._n etc._n yet_o however_o be_v persuade_v to_o draw_v up_o your_o case_n out_o of_o the_o word_n and_o say_v what_o you_o can_v but_o say_v if_o you_o mind_n what_o you_o read_v if_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v true_a i_o be_o in_o a_o lose_a state_n but_o i_o have_v a_o better_a opinion_n of_o my_o condition_n than_o so_o can_v we_o bring_v secure_a sinner_n thus_o far_o the_o time_n may_v come_v and_o will_v come_v if_o you_o belong_v to_o god_n when_o his_o word_n will_v have_v more_o weight_n with_o you_o than_o your_o own_o present_a thought_n and_o imagination_n and_o than_o you_o will_v judge_v of_o yourselves_o as_o the_o word_n judge_n and_o no_o otherwise_o what_o ever_o your_o present_a hope_n or_o fear_n may_v be_v you_o will_v come_v over_o to_o the_o word_n and_o be_v of_o the_o same_o mind_n with_o that_o concern_v your_o eternal_a state_n do_v say_v as_o some_o general_o do_v if_o i_o be_o elect_v i_o shall_v be_v regenerate_v and_o save_v at_o last_o so_o put_v off_o all_o from_o yourselves_o upon_o god_n decree_n as_o if_o they_o leave_v no_o room_n for_o your_o duty_n as_o if_o to_o the_o second_o point_n viz._n that_o faith_n be_v not_o only_o join_v with_o repentance_n in_o the_o first_o production_n of_o it_o as_o have_v be_v show_v but_o in_o all_o the_o subsequent_a act_n of_o it_o ever_o after_o which_o i_o make_v out_o thus_o faith_n and_o repentance_n do_v constant_o refer_v to_o each_o other_o in_o their_o several_a act_n faith_n to_o repentance_n and_o repentance_n to_o faith_n he_o that_o believe_v repent_v because_o he_o believe_v and_o he_o that_o repent_v believe_v because_o he_o repent_v i._n e._n as_o faith_n be_v the_o cause_n of_o plain_o and_o clear_o lay_v down_o there_o in_o term_n very_o intelligible_a though_o faith_n be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n and_o be_v give_v of_o mere_a grace_n but_o to_o a_o few_o yet_o all_o who_o live_v under_o the_o light_n of_o the_o gospel_n may_v know_v what_o they_o ought_v to_o believe_v which_o will_v render_v their_o unbelief_n more_o inexcusable_a do_v we_o dwell_v more_o upon_o to_o be_v justify_v by_o our_o repentance_n as_o well_o as_o by_o faith_n since_o we_o be_v not_o save_v without_o repentance_n answ._n there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o difference_n between_o justification_n and_o salvation_n salvation_n include_v all_o qualification_n belong_v to_o that_o state_n justification_n let_v we_o into_o that_o state_n give_v we_o right_o to_o life_n from_o the_o grace_n of_o faith_n among_o professor_n there_o will_v be_v more_o repentance_n let_v we_o not_o flatter_v ourselves_o in_o the_o good_a opinion_n we_o have_v of_o our_o faith_n and_o of_o our_o suppose_a interest_n in_o christ_n it_o be_v all_o false_a our_o faith_n be_v vain_a and_o we_o be_v yet_o in_o our_o sin_n if_o repentance_n do_v not_o accompany_v our_o faith_n the_o visible_a neglect_n of_o repentance_n in_o the_o professor_n of_o this_o age_n have_v bring_v a_o reproach_n upon_o the_o doctrine_n of_o faith_n and_o cause_v it_o to_o be_v evil_o speak_v of_o that_o faith_n because_o a_o infirmity_n in_o the_o true_a notion_n of_o it_o be_v the_o deficiency_n of_o a_o good_a action_n it_o be_v not_o so_o good_a as_o it_o shall_v be_v absolute_o evil_a in_o itself_o it_o be_v not_o v_o g._n a_o child_n of_o god_n pray_v but_o not_o so_o fervent_o as_o he_o shall_v he_o hear_v the_o word_n but_o not_o so_o attentive_o as_o he_o shall_v he_o believe_v in_o christ_n but_o not_o so_o firm_o so_o strong_o so_o steadfast_o as_o he_o will_v this_o be_v his_o infirmity_n here_o the_o action_n itself_o or_o the_o thing_n do_v be_v for_o the_o substance_n and_o matter_n of_o it_o good_a in_o itself_o what_o god_n have_v command_v but_o when_o we_o do_v that_o which_o be_v material_o evil_a in_o its_o own_o nature_n and_o forbid_v by_o god_n this_o be_v more_o than_o a_o infirmity_n the_o whole_a action_n be_v naught_o it_o be_v not_o a_o weak_a action_n but_o a_o wicked_a one_o he_o that_o be_v a_o infirm_a man_n be_v a_o live_a man_n a_o dead_a man_n be_v more_o than_o infirm_a he_o have_v no_o life_n at_o all_o in_o he_o that_o be_v capable_a of_o infirmity_n if_o a_o child_n of_o god_n shall_v swear_v be_v drink_v or_o commit_v whoredom_n etc._n etc._n i_o will_v not_o say_v as_o some_o do_v oh_o the_o infirmity_n of_o the_o saint_n but_o i_o will_v say_v oh_o the_o wickedness_n the_o lewdness_n of_o the_o saint_n you_o will_v think_v these_o hard_a word_n hard_a thing_n must_v have_v hard_a word_n they_o that_o do_v well_o shall_v hear_v well_o and_o they_o that_o do_v ill_o must_v hear_v ill_a sin_n be_v not_o the_o less_o sinful_a because_o a_o godly_a man_n commit_v it_o it_o fall_v under_o great_a aggravation_n in_o he_o than_o in_o another_o there_o may_v be_v some_o good_a thing_n in_o his_o heart_n but_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o our_o infirmity_n to_o confess_v they_o and_o so_o to_o pass_v on_o by_o a_o present_a act_n of_o faith_n into_o our_o wont_a serenity_n and_o peace_n of_o conscience_n not_o doubt_v but_o god_n will_v overlook_v they_o for_o christ_n sake_n faith_n be_v not_o so_o put_v to_o it_o do_v not_o labour_v so_o much_o to_o take_v in_o the_o pardon_n of_o they_o as_o it_o do_v and_o must_v do_v to_o obtain_v the_o pardon_n of_o grosser_n sin_n which_o put_v the_o soul_n at_o a_o great_a distance_n from_o god_n then_o common_a infirmity_n do_v which_o be_v pardon_v of_o course_n to_o believer_n upon_o their_o humble_a acknowledgement_n of_o they_o but_o in_o case_n of_o any_o particular_a wilful_a sin_n we_o must_v renew_v our_o repentance_n in_o a_o more_o solemn_a manner_n and_o afflict_v
