of_o the_o law_n the_o law_n be_v for_o another_o it_o be_v to_o fit_v we_o for_o faith_n it_o be_v our_o schoolmaster_n to_o bring_v we_o to_o christ._n we_o thunder_v not_o the_o law_n to_o make_v man_n run_v away_o from_o god_n but_o to_o bring_v they_o home_o unto_o he_o the_o schoolmaster_n by_o the_o smart_n of_o his_o rod_n make_v the_o child_n weary_a of_o his_o bondage_n and_o desire_v earnest_o to_o be_v past_o his_o nonage_n and_o this_o be_v his_o end_n not_o that_o he_o delight_v to_o hear_v he_o cry_v thus_o be_v we_o beat_v by_o the_o law_n not_o that_o god_n delight_n or_o love_v to_o hear_v we_o sigh_v or_o sob_v but_o that_o we_o may_v grow_v weary_a of_o our_o misery_n and_o cruel_a bondage_n may_v desire_v to_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n the_o law_n than_o be_v so_o a_o schoolmaster_n as_o that_o by_o make_v we_o smart_n it_o may_v bring_v we_o home_o we_o see_v then_o the_o course_n and_o method_n of_o the_o scripture_n it_o have_v conclude_v all_o under_o sin_n that_o the_o promise_n by_o faith_n of_o jesus_n christ_n may_v be_v give_v to_o they_o that_o believe_v now_o because_o man_n like_v not_o this_o kind_n of_o doctrine_n to_o begin_v with_o preach_v of_o the_o law_n and_o therefore_o think_v there_o may_v be_v a_o short_a and_o near_a way_n to_o preach_v christ_n first_o i_o will_v therefore_o make_v knwon_a unto_o you_o this_o method_n of_o the_o scripture_n and_o i_o will_v justify_v it_o unto_o you_o there_o must_v be_v this_o preparative_a else_o the_o gospel_n will_v come_v unreasonable_o if_o before_o we_o be_v sour_v by_o adam_n by_o preach_v christ_n gospel_n before_o he_o see_v his_o sin_n and_o wickedness_n no_o he_o say_v not_o to_o he_o present_o assoon_o as_o he_o have_v sin_v well_o adam_n thou_o have_v sin_v the_o law_n will_v execute_v justice_n on_o he_o there_o be_v no_o benefit_n have_v by_o repentance_n the_o law_n will_v seize_v on_o he_o he_o shall_v have_v look_v to_o it_o before_o if_o thou_o commit_v murder_n or_o burglary_n it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o put_v one_o good_a deed_n for_o another_o to_o say_v i_o have_v do_v thus_o and_o thus_o for_o the_o king_n i_o keep_v such_o a_o fort_n or_o i_o win_v such_o a_o town_n this_o will_v not_o serve_v thy_o turn_n it_o will_v not_o save_v thy_o neck_n the_o law_n take_v no_o knowledge_n of_o any_o good_a thing_n do_v or_o of_o any_o itself_o so_o as_o not_o to_o make_v a_o game_n of_o it_o or_o a_o small_a matter_n as_o many_o usual_o make_v it_o to_o see_v the_o ugliness_n of_o it_o i_o can_v without_o the_o law_n but_o that_o we_o may_v know_v what_o sin_n be_v and_o that_o we_o may_v see_v it_o to_o be_v exceed_o sinful_a i_o here_o bring_v you_o a_o few_o consideration_n which_o i_o will_v have_v you_o ponder_v on_o and_o enlarge_v they_o to_o yourselves_o when_o you_o come_v home_o 1._o consider_v the_o baseness_n of_o he_o that_o offend_v and_o the_o excellency_n of_o he_o that_o be_v offend_v you_o shall_v never_o know_v what_o sin_n be_v without_o this_o twofold_a consideration_n lay_v they_o together_o and_o it_o will_v make_v sin_n out_o of_o measure_n sinful_a see_v in_o david_n the_o drunkard_n tear_v his_o dreadful_a and_o terrible_a name_n what_o make_v such_o a_o base_a and_o vile_a villain_n as_o thou_o thus_o to_o fly_v in_o god_n face_n be_v there_o any_o profit_n or_o delight_n in_o breathe_v forth_o blasphemy_n profit_n thou_o can_v take_v none_o and_o if_o thou_o take_v pleasure_n in_o it_o than_o the_o devil_n be_v in_o thou_o yea_o than_o thou_o be_v worst_a than_o the_o devil_n himself_o this_o be_v the_o second_o consideration_n which_o may_v make_v we_o to_o see_v the_o vileness_n of_o sin_n and_o abhor_v ourselves_o for_o it_o to_o wit_n the_o slenderness_n of_o the_o temptation_n and_o smallness_n of_o the_o motive_n to_o it_o 3._o add_v what_o strong_a help_n and_o mean_v god_n have_v give_v thou_o to_o keep_v thou_o from_o sin_n as_o i_o say_v thou_o shall_v consider_v the_o bitterness_n of_o the_o delinquent_n the_o glory_n of_o the_o offend_v the_o mean_a motive_n which_o cause_n so_o base_a a_o creature_n to_o do_v so_o vile_a a_o act_n so_o also_o consider_v the_o great_a mean_n god_n have_v give_v thou_o to_o keep_v thou_o from_o sin_n he_o have_v give_v thou_o his_o word_n and_o this_o will_v great_o aggravate_v thy_o sin_n to_o sin_n against_o his_o word_n gen._n 3.11_o when_o god_n convince_v adam_n he_o proceed_v thus_o far_o with_o he_o have_v thou_o say_v he_o eat_v of_o the_o tree_n whereof_o i_o command_v thou_o that_o thou_o shall_v not_o eat_v what_o have_v thou_o do_v it_o as_o if_o thou_o will_v do_v it_o on_o purpose_n to_o cross_v god_n god_n have_v give_v thou_o a_o express_a command_n to_o the_o contrary_a and_o yet_o have_v thou_o do_v this_o have_v thou_o so_o often_o hear_v the_o law_n and_o pray_v lord_n have_v mercy_n on_o i_o and_o incline_v my_o heart_n to_o keep_v this_o law_n and_o yet_o will_v thou_o lie_v swear_v commit_v adultery_n and_o deal_v false_o and_o that_o contrary_a to_o the_o command_n of_o god_n obstinate_o disobey_v he_o now_o god_n have_v not_o only_o give_v this_o great_a mean_n of_o his_o word_n and_o commandment_n but_o great_a grace_n too_o where_o understand_v that_o there_o be_v not_o only_o final_a grace_n but_o degree_n of_o grace_n else_o the_o apostle_n will_v not_o have_v say_v receive_v not_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n in_o vain_a 2_o cor._n 6.1_o consider_v then_o how_o much_o grace_n thou_o have_v receive_v in_o vain_a how_o many_o motion_n to_o good_a have_v thou_o reject_v perhaps_o thy_o heart_n be_v touch_v at_o this_o sermon_n though_o it_o be_v not_o my_o tongue_n nor_o the_o tongue_n of_o the_o most_o elegant_a in_o the_o world_n that_o can_v touch_v the_o heart_n but_o the_o spirit_n that_o come_v along_o with_o his_o word_n now_o when_o thou_o find_v with_o the_o word_n a_o spirit_n to_o go_v with_o it_o it_o be_v a_o grace_n if_o thy_o conscience_n be_v enlighten_v and_o thy_o duty_n reveal_v to_o thou_o so_o that_o it_o tell_v thou_o what_o thou_o be_v what_o thou_o ought_v to_o do_v and_o not_o to_o do_v it_o be_v a_o grace_n now_o if_o for_o all_o this_o thou_o blind_o run_v through_o and_o be_v never_o the_o better_a but_o obstinate_o
set_v thyself_o against_o god_n and_o do_v many_o thing_n which_o other_o that_o have_v not_o receive_v the_o same_o grace_n will_v not_o have_v do_v know_v then_o that_o thou_o receive_v this_o grace_n in_o vain_a and_o thy_o case_n be_v lamentable_a 4._o consider_v god_n great_a goodness_n which_o ought_v to_o restrain_v thou_o from_o sin_n upon_o a_o double_a account_n 1._o first_o his_o goodness_n in_o himself_o shall_v keep_v thou_o from_o offend_v he_o there_o be_v nothing_o but_o goodness_n infinite_a goodness_n in_o he_o and_o can_v thou_o find_v in_o thy_o heart_n to_o sin_n against_o so_o good_a a_o god_n to_o offend_v and_o wrong_v a_o good_a disposition_v person_n one_o of_o a_o sweet_a nature_n and_o affection_n it_o aggravate_v the_o fault_n it_o be_v pity_n to_o wrong_v or_o hurt_v such_o a_o one_o as_o injure_v no_o body_n now_o such_o a_o one_o be_v god_n a_o good_a god_n infinite_a in_o goodness_n rich_a in_o mercy_n very_a goodness_n itself_o and_o therefore_o it_o must_v needs_o aggravate_v the_o foulness_n of_o sin_n to_o sin_n against_o he_o but_o now_o he_o be_v not_o only_o thus_o in_o himself_o but_o 2._o second_o he_o be_v good_a to_o thou_o rom._n 2._o despise_v thou_o the_o riches_n of_o his_o goodness_n and_o forbearance_n etc._n etc._n what_o have_v thou_o that_o thou_o have_v not_o receive_v from_o his_o bountiful_a hand_n world_n in_o that_o they_o follow_v it_o not_o although_o it_o be_v so_o good_a but_o continue_v in_o their_o great_a sin_n so_o be_v thou_o a_o wicked_a deboist_a person_n there_o be_v no_o good_a heart_n firm_o set_v against_o all_o sin_n for_o the_o time_n to_o come_v the_o great_a and_o firm_a this_o be_v the_o lesser_a measure_n of_o sorrow_n may_v suffice_v for_o sin_n forepast_a as_o we_o
