blow_n as_o now_o thou_o do_v depart_v from_o god_n by_o sin_v so_o than_o thou_o shall_v depart_v from_o god_n for_o ever_o a_o wicked_a man_n forsake_v god_n and_o pluck_v his_o heart_n from_o under_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n that_o shall_v inform_v he_o in_o the_o way_n of_o life_n and_o the_o soul_n say_v god_n shall_v not_o bless_v i_o god_n shall_v not_o be_v god_n unto_o i_o but_o i_o will_v live_v as_o i_o list_v and_o i_o will_v run_v down_o post_o have_v to_o hell_n and_o when_o our_o heart_n begin_v to_o rise_v against_o god_n and_o his_o ordinance_n and_o your_o soul_n begin_v to_o go_v against_o the_o lord_n i_o tell_v you_o what_o i_o will_v think_v with_o myself_o suppose_v i_o hear_v the_o voice_n of_o the_o archangel_n cry_v arise_v you_o dead_a and_o come_v to_o judgement_n and_o the_o last_o trumpet_n sound_v and_o the_o lord_n jesus_n come_v in_o the_o heaven_n with_o his_o glorious_a angel_n and_o do_v see_v the_o goat_n stand_v â—â—_o the_o leave_v hand_n these_o two_o ground_n first_o because_o we_o judge_v not_o of_o sin_n according_a to_o the_o word_n and_o verdict_n of_o it_o but_o either_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o profit_n that_o be_v therein_o or_o the_o pleasure_n that_o we_o expect_v there_o from_o the_o usurer_n look_v on_o his_o profit_n that_o come_v by_o sin_n and_o the_o adulterer_n his_o pleasure_n and_o judas_n see_v the_o money_n but_o he_o do_v not_o see_v the_o malice_n of_o his_o own_o heart_n nor_o the_o want_n of_o love_n to_o his_o master_n and_o this_o make_v he_o take_v up_o that_o course_n which_o he_o do_v but_o when_o he_o throw_v away_o his_o thirty_o penny_n the_o lord_n make_v he_o see_v the_o vileness_n of_o his_o sin_n it_o come_v clear_o to_o his_o sight_n and_o therefore_o he_o cry_v out_o i_o have_v sin_v in_o betray_v innocent_a blood_n as_o bribe_v blind_a the_o eye_n of_o the_o wise_a and_o pervert_v judgement_n so_o sin_n bribe_v the_o eye_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o therefore_o the_o tradseman_n see_v much_o profit_n come_v by_o cozen_v &_o false_a measure_n and_o so_o give_v way_n to_o himself_o therein_o but_o he_o see_v not_o the_o sin_n so_o the_o oppressor_n see_v the_o mortgage_n &_o pawn_n that_o come_v in_o but_o he_o can_v see_v his_o sin_n till_o he_o be_v lay_v on_o his_o death_n bed_n and_o then_o the_o lord_n show_v he_o all_o the_o wrong_n that_o he_o have_v do_v second_o another_o reason_n why_o we_o see_v not_o the_o vileness_n of_o sin_n be_v because_o we_o judge_v the_o nature_n of_o sin_n according_a to_o god_n patience_n towards_o we_o as_o thus_o a_o man_n commit_v a_o sin_n &_o be_v not_o plague_v for_o it_o and_o therefore_o he_o think_v god_n will_v not_o execute_v judgement_n upon_o he_o at_o all_o all_o thing_n continue_v a_o like_a say_v the_o wicked_a man_n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v you_o talk_v of_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n that_o shall_v be_v reveal_v from_o heaven_n against_o all_o ungodliness_n &_o where_o be_v the_o promise_n in_o our_o own_o person_n that_o look_v what_o we_o confess_v to_o be_v in_o sin_n in_o general_a we_o confess_v the_o same_o in_o our_o own_o soul_n and_o that_o our_o sin_n be_v as_o bad_a as_o the_o sin_n of_o any_o this_o be_v the_o curse_a distemper_n of_o our_o heart_n howsoever_o we_o hold_v it_o to_o be_v truth_n in_o general_a yet_o when_o we_o come_v to_o our_o own_o sin_n the_o case_n be_v alter_v and_o we_o never_o come_v to_o the_o right_n see_v of_o they_o as_o they_o concern_v our_o own_o particular_a as_o the_o adulterer_n can_v easy_o confess_v the_o danger_n and_o filthynesse_n of_o that_o sin_n in_o other_o but_o he_o think_v not_o his_o sin_n to_o be_v so_o vile_a as_o the_o wise_a man_n say_v he_o that_o enter_v into_o the_o house_n of_o a_o harlot_n 2.19_o yet_o with_o much_o difficulty_n david_n have_v let_v his_o soul_n loose_v in_o that_o &_o he_o do_v hardly_o recover_v himself_o again_o scarce_o one_o of_o a_o thousand_o yet_o ever_o take_v hold_v of_o the_o way_n of_o life_n and_o the_o drunkard_n will_v confess_v the_o danger_n of_o his_o sin_n in_o general_a when_o he_o see_v his_o drunken_a mate_n lie_v grovel_v in_o the_o dust_n he_o will_v be_v ashamed_a of_o it_o and_o say_v now_o no_o adulterer_n or_o drunkard_n shall_v ever_o come_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n but_o here_o be_v the_o wound_n of_o it_o when_o he_o come_v to_o his_o own_o particular_a drunkenness_n and_o uncleanness_n that_o he_o must_v look_v into_o they_o than_o the_o sight_n of_o a_o man_n knowledge_n have_v not_o so_o much_o power_n as_o to_o judge_v himself_o right_o or_o to_o make_v a_o particular_a application_n to_o himself_o but_o he_o think_v his_o adultery_n and_o drunkenness_n be_v not_o like_a to_o another_o man_n or_o else_o his_o knowledge_n be_v but_o weak_a or_o else_o he_o see_v as_o a_o man_n in_o the_o twilight_n when_o the_o sun_n be_v down_o and_o the_o heaven_n begin_v to_o withdraw_v their_o light_n though_o a_o man_n can_v see_v to_o read_v abroad_o yet_o he_o can_v see_v to_o read_v in_o the_o house_n or_o in_o the_o chamber_n so_o it_o be_v with_o a_o weak_a knowledge_n and_o with_o a_o feeble_a understanding_n in_o a_o wicked_a man_n he_o be_v notable_a to_o see_v the_o vile_a nature_n of_o sin_n in_o himself_o when_o he_o come_v to_o read_v his_o own_o closet_n sin_n and_o his_o bosom_n abomination_n than_o he_o have_v not_o so_o much_o light_n as_o to_o perceive_v they_o so_o full_o in_o himself_o as_o he_o think_v to_o do_v therefore_o the_o rule_n be_v this_o arrest_v thy_o soul_n in_o a_o special_a manner_n of_o those_o sin_n whereof_o thou_o stand_v guilty_a that_o phrase_n in_o job_n be_v to_o good_a purpose_n 13.27_o thou_o look_v narrow_o to_o my_o path_n thou_o set_v a_o what_o ever_o truth_n be_v deliver_v though_o never_o so_o cross_a and_o contrary_a to_o our_o corrupt_a nature_n the_o soul_n may_v be_v willing_a to_o be_v under_o the_o blow_n of_o it_o and_o let_v the_o strength_n of_o the_o word_n come_v full_a upon_o the_o heart_n and_o this_o will_v make_v we_o feel_o to_o understand_v our_o condition_n as_o in_o job_n when_o god_n have_v take_v down_o his_o proud_a heart_n see_v how_o he_o submit_v himself_o 40.3_o behold_v i_o be_o vile_a what_o shall_v i_o say_v i_o will_v lay_v my_o hand_n upon_o my_o mouth_n i_o have_v sin_v but_o i_o will_v go_v that_o it_o be_v not_o so_o heinous_a and_o so_o dangerous_a as_o those_o hot_a spirit_a minister_n bear_v man_n in_o hand_n this_o be_v usual_o the_o common_a conceit_n of_o all_o man_n natural_o and_o even_o of_o we_o all_o more_o or_o less_o to_o make_v a_o slight_a account_n of_o sin_n and_o that_o for_o these_o four_o respect_n first_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o commonness_n of_o it_o because_o that_o every_o man_n be_v guilty_a of_o it_o sin_n we_o slight_v it_o what_o say_v one_o good_a now_o what_o then_o be_v not_o all_o sinner_n as_o well_o as_o we_o though_o we_o have_v many_o fayling_n yet_o we_o have_v many_o fellow_n if_o we_o be_v drunkard_n or_o whoremonger_n than_o it_o be_v somewhat_o thou_o say_v true_a indeed_o thou_o have_v many_o fellow_n in_o thy_o sin_n and_o thou_o shall_v have_v share_n with_o many_o fellow_n in_o the_o punishment_n to_o come_v there_o be_v room_n enough_o in_o hell_n for_o thou_o and_o all_o thy_o fellow_n hell_n have_v open_v kingdom_n of_o heaven_n the_o text_n say_v not_o no_o great_a liar_n shall_v enter_v into_o heaven_n but_o no_o liar_n shall_v enter_v into_o heaven_n what_o difference_n be_v there_o between_o a_o man_n that_o go_v to_o hell_n for_o open_a rebellion_n and_o a_o man_n that_o go_v to_o hell_n for_o civil_a profession_n and_o what_o difference_n be_v there_o between_o a_o open_a adulterer_n and_o what_o will_v you_o have_v of_o we_o saint_n on_o earth_n answ._n ay_o either_o saint_n or_o devil_n never_o sanctify_v never_o save_v never_o purge_v never_o glorify_v 3.3_o as_o the_o apostle_n nature_n of_o i_o will_v sin_v against_o thou_o they_o that_o have_v receive_v christ_n have_v a_o new_a nature_n and_o therefore_o if_o i_o have_v a_o carnal_a corrupt_a nature_n than_o my_o condition_n be_v most_o fearful_a and_o say_v do_v temptation_n &_o the_o world_n allure_v i_o than_o there_o be_v some_o hope_n of_o mercy_n but_o it_o be_v my_o nature_n to_o sin_n and_o therefore_o my_o estate_n and_o condition_n be_v most_o miserable_a &_o wretched_a oh_o wretched_a man_n that_o i_o be_o 7._o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n of_o death_n three_o many_o say_v halter_n but_o to_o tell_v they_o they_o must_v pull_v down_o their_o proud_a heart_n and_o be_v humble_v for_o their_o sin_n and_o the_o like_a than_o they_o reply_v thought_n fly_v away_o sudden_o and_o thought_n be_v free_a to_o which_o i_o answer_v these_o word_n be_v such_o wind_n as_o will_v blow_v down_o thy_o soul_n into_o the_o bottomless_a pit_n of_o hell_n it_o be_v not_o i_o that_o say_v so_o but_o our_o saviour_n himself_o by_o thy_o word_n thou_o shall_v be_v justisfy_v 12.37_o and_o by_o thy_o word_n thou_o shall_v be_v condemn_v though_o you_o make_v nothing_o of_o your_o swear_n and_o idle_a thought_n and_o revile_n of_o god_n people_n yet_o the_o god_n of_o heaven_n will_v require_v they_o at_o your_o hand_n and_o you_o shall_v either_o receive_v acquittance_n from_o you_o 1._o consider_v these_o three_o motive_n first_o it_o be_v the_o only_a old_a way_n to_o heaven_n for_o god_n never_o reveal_v any_o other_o but_o this_o way_n in_o the_o old_a law_n the_o only_a way_n for_o the_o leper_n to_o be_v cleanse_v be_v to_o come_v out_o into_o the_o congregation_n and_o to_o cry_v i_o be_o unclean_a i_o be_o unclean_a this_o leper_n be_v every_o sinner_n this_o mean_n of_o cure_v be_v the_o sight_n of_o his_o sin_n and_o as_o he_o do_v so_o must_v every_o sinner_n confess_v his_o sin_n take_v shame_n to_o himself_o and_o say_v it_o be_v my_o proud_a do_v not_o find_v a_o short_a cut_n to_o heaven_n the_o further_a you_o go_v the_o contrary_a way_n the_o further_a you_o must_v return_v back_o again_o this_o have_v cozen_v many_o a_o man_n more_o than_o he_o do_v imagine_v as_o a_o traveller_n when_o he_o be_v loath_a to_o go_v through_o some_o filthy_a lane_n he_o will_v break_v through_o the_o fence_n and_o go_v through_o the_o meadow_n that_o he_o may_v save_v the_o foul_a way_n at_o last_o when_o he_o have_v go_v up_o and_o down_o and_o can_v get_v out_o again_o he_o be_v force_v with_o much_o loss_n of_o time_n to_o go_v back_o again_o and_o go_v through_o the_o lane_n so_o it_o be_v with_o many_o sinful_a wretch_n in_o the_o world_n and_o this_o have_v cost_v they_o dear_a they_o will_v not_o go_v this_o way_n by_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n to_o see_v the_o filthiness_n thereof_o and_o their_o curse_a abomination_n but_o they_o will_v have_v a_o new_a way_n to_o receive_v mercy_n &_o comfort_n from_o god_n yet_o at_o last_o they_o be_v drive_v to_o a_o stand_n and_o then_o they_o will_v hear_v the_o minister_n of_o god_n and_o when_o he_o say_v christ_n come_v to_o seek_v and_o to_o save_v that_o which_o be_v lose_v 19.10_o that_o be_v those_o poor_a sinner_n that_o see_v themselves_o lose_v and_o consider_v the_o plague_n of_o their_o heart_n and_o when_o christ_n work_v save_o he_o open_v the_o eye_n and_o awaken_v the_o conscience_n and_o a_o man_n must_v confess_v before_o he_o can_v find_v mercy_n than_o the_o soul_n say_v i_o never_o see_v this_o work_n upon_o my_o soul_n i_o be_v never_o lose_v no_o where_o break_v you_o over_o then_o you_o will_v needs_o to_o heaven_n a_o new_a way_n you_o be_v like_o the_o thorny_a ground_n that_o will_v receive_v the_o word_n with_o joy_n nay_o i_o will_v 2._o if_o thou_o once_o get_v thy_o conscience_n convict_v and_o thy_o eye_n open_v the_o work_n will_v go_v on_o clear_o and_o easy_o many_o of_o god_n people_n will_v strike_v in_o with_o you_o and_o many_o good_a christian_n will_v pity_v you_o and_o pray_v for_o you_o and_o you_o shall_v have_v many_o help_v this_o way_n and_o therefore_o be_v it_o not_o better_o now_o to_o have_v your_o conscience_n awaken_v when_o you_o may_v have_v help_n than_o afterward_o when_o there_o be_v no_o remedy_n when_o any_o of_o god_n people_n fast_o or_o pray_v they_o will_v remember_v you_o what_o say_v one_o do_v you_o know_v such_o a_o man_n yes_o very_o well_o what_o be_v he_o oh_o he_o be_v the_o most_o shameless_a drunkard_n that_o ever_o the_o sun_n do_v see_v or_o the_o earth_n bear_v be_v he_o so_o oh_o but_o now_o god_n have_v open_v his_o eye_n and_o awaken_v his_o conscience_n he_o be_v never_o so_o frolic_a before_o but_o now_o he_o be_v as_o much_o wound_v now_o his_o heart_n be_v break_v &_o his_o conscience_n fly_v in_o his_o face_n it_o be_v good_a to_o remember_v he_o though_o he_o have_v be_v a_o wretch_n and_o a_o profess_a opposer_n of_o god_n people_n yet_o let_v we_o remember_v he_o yes_o that_o i_o will_v i_o know_v his_o burden_n be_v great_a i_o have_v find_v it_o and_o i_o hope_v so_o long_o as_o i_o have_v a_o knee_n to_o kneel_v and_o a_o tongue_n to_o speak_v i_o shall_v remember_v he_o and_o then_o they_o pray_v for_o he_o and_o say_v good_a lord_n who_o can_v bear_v a_o wound_a soul_n good_a lord_n thou_o have_v humble_v he_o and_o make_v he_o see_v himself_o vile_a and_o miserable_a let_v he_o see_v thy_o mercy_n in_o christ._n what_o a_o comfort_n be_v this_o to_o have_v a_o whole_a country_n pray_v for_o he_o in_o this_o manner_n object_n but_o some_o will_v object_v and_o say_v this_o be_v something_o dangerous_a and_o drive_v man_n sometime_o to_o a_o desperate_a stand_n and_o therefore_o be_v it_o not_o far_o better_a to_o be_v as_o we_o be_v and_o not_o to_o awake_v this_o severe_a lion_n a_o man_n can_v conjure_v down_o his_o conscience_n when_o it_o be_v up_o once_o answ._n to_o this_o i_o answer_v you_o must_v see_v your_o sin_n that_o be_v the_o truth_n of_o it_o do_v not_o think_v to_o put_v it_o off_o the_o lion_n will_v roar_v and_o that_o conscience_n will_v be_v awaken_v one_o day_n it_o be_v better_a to_o be_v awaken_v now_o then_o to_o have_v your_o eye_n open_v in_o hell_n when_o there_o be_v no_o remedy_n 3._o three_o set_v upon_o this_o work_n the_o issue_n will_v be_v very_o successful_a oh_o what_o a_o comfort_n will_v it_o be_v to_o a_o poor_a soul_n in_o the_o time_n of_o death_n when_o he_o shall_v come_v to_o render_v up_o his_o soul_n into_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n that_o all_o his_o sin_n be_v wipe_v out_o and_o then_o to_o hear_v those_o glad_a tiding_n from_o heaven_n be_v of_o good_a comfort_n poor_a soul_n thou_o have_v see_v thy_o sin_n therefore_o i_o will_v not_o see_v they_o thou_o have_v remember_v they_o and_o mourn_v for_o they_o therefore_o i_o will_v never_o plague_v thou_o for_o they_o who_o will_v not_o see_v his_o sin_n that_o christ_n may_v cover_v they_o in_o that_o

the_o plague_n due_a to_o they_o but_o look_v thou_o on_o they_o that_o god_n may_v not_o if_o a_o adversary_n offer_v mean_n of_o agreement_n we_o use_v to_o say_v suffer_v it_o not_o to_o come_v to_o the_o public_a trial_n for_o the_o case_n be_v naught_o i_o say_v it_o will_v be_v so_o with_o every_o wicked_a man_n case_n the_o lord_n have_v a_o controversy_n with_o every_o wicked_a man_n and_o it_o must_v be_v try_v in_o the_o public_a day_n of_o judgement_n or_o else_o you_o must_v make_v a_o private_a agreement_n between_o god_n and_o your_o own_o soul_n if_o there_o be_v any_o drunkard_n or_o adulterer_n or_o unjust_a person_n that_o be_v guilty_a of_o any_o sin_n you_o have_v better_o take_v up_o the_o matter_n in_o private_a do_v not_o fear_v to_o look_v upon_o your_o sin_n but_o bring_v they_o all_o out_o before_o the_o lord_n and_o see_v the_o ugly_a face_n of_o they_o and_o entreat_v the_o lord_n to_o seal_v up_o unto_o you_o the_o pardon_n of_o they_o that_o you_o may_v never_o be_v call_v to_o a_o account_n for_o they_o i_o tell_v you_o it_o be_v the_o most_o comfortable_a course_n in_o the_o world_n the_o last_o use_n for_o instruction_n to_o all_o my_o fellow_n brethren_n use_v let_v i_o speak_v a_o word_n to_o they_o and_o to_o myself_o too_o let_v we_o all_o take_v that_o course_n in_o deal_v with_o the_o people_n and_o god_n ordinance_n which_o god_n himself_o take_v up_o as_o the_o steward_n dispose_v of_o every_o thing_n at_o his_o master_n will_v and_o the_o apothecary_n order_n drug_n as_o the_o physician_n appoint_v so_o let_v it_o be_v with_o we_o to_o we_o be_v but_o steward_n and_o apothecary_n let_v we_o take_v that_o course_n and_o use_v those_o mean_n that_o god_n have_v appoint_v for_o his_o people_n good_a god_n say_v you_o must_v see_v your_o sin_n and_o be_v humble_v for_o they_o and_o therefore_o let_v we_o labour_n to_o make_v man_n see_v they_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v 3.2_o i_o hope_v we_o be_v make_v manifest_a to_o your_o conscience_n do_v not_o your_o conscience_n say_v so_o that_o you_o can_v not_o gainsay_v it_o we_o must_v take_v up_o that_o course_n the_o scripture_n have_v reveal_v and_o which_o the_o place_n in_o his_o heart_n give_v i_o leave_v to_o speak_v my_o thought_n and_o it_o be_v my_o judgement_n too_o what_o do_v it_o profit_v a_o man_n to_o scrape_v up_o a_o little_a greek_a and_o latin_a together_o and_o to_o leave_v the_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n undiscovered_a and_o the_o conscience_n no_o whit_n touch_v nor_o the_o heart_n stir_v he_o that_o know_v any_o thing_n this_o way_n though_o he_o be_v but_o a_o ordinary_a schoolboy_n that_o have_v but_o any_o skill_n in_o the_o tongue_n if_o he_o can_v not_o do_v it_o he_o shall_v be_v scourge_v by_o my_o consent_n but_o let_v it_o be_v in_o case_n of_o conscience_n a_o poor_a soul_n come_v to_o anguish_n of_o spirit_n the_o only_a way_n to_o â—et_v this_o man_n on_o foot_n again_o be_v to_o answer_v all_o his_o objection_n and_o question_n and_o resolve_v all_o his_o doubt_n and_o to_o make_v the_o way_n good_a and_o the_o case_n clear_a alas_o this_o course_n be_v not_o know_v among_o we_o and_o in_o the_o way_n of_o examination_n if_o a_o man_n come_v to_o examine_v a_o sinner_n he_o take_v away_o all_o his_o cavil_n and_o all_o his_o carnal_a shift_n that_o he_o have_v to_o hinder_v the_o word_n and_o force_v the_o soul_n to_o say_v it_o be_v god_n word_n though_o he_o will_v not_o entertain_v it_o let_v a_o man_n try_v this_o course_n and_o he_o shall_v find_v a_o marvellous_a difficulty_n this_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o our_o ministry_n thrive_v not_o and_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n be_v not_o wrought_v upon_o ministry_n because_o we_o labour_v not_o the_o right_a way_n to_o show_v man_n their_o sin_n and_o to_o convince_v their_o conscience_n that_o they_o may_v not_o flinch_v out_o from_o the_o ordinance_n of_o god_n nay_o i_o take_v it_o to_o be_v the_o special_a cause_n why_o after_o all_o the_o precious_a promise_n that_o god_n make_v know_v no_o man_n receive_v good_a by_o they_o we_o offer_v salve_n to_o they_o that_o know_v not_o whether_o they_o have_v any_o sore_n or_o no_o and_o we_o offer_v physic_n to_o those_o that_o we_o know_v not_o whether_o they_o have_v any_o disease_n or_o no_o we_o speak_v of_o grace_n &_o christ_n but_o people_n think_v they_o have_v no_o need_n of_o they_o suffer_v i_o to_o speak_v my_o mind_n herein_o free_o that_o ministry_n which_o do_v not_o ordinary_o humble_v the_o soul_n &_o break_v the_o heart_n do_v not_o convert_v and_o draw_v to_o christ_n but_o that_o ministry_n that_o do_v not_o enlighten_v the_o mind_n and_o convince_v the_o soul_n of_o sin_n that_o never_o humble_v ordinary_o and_o therefore_o never_o do_v draw_v home_n to_o christ_n now_o we_o come_v to_o show_v the_o cause_n why_o and_o the_o mean_n how_o sinner_n come_v to_o see_v their_o sin_n the_o apostle_n speak_v it_o to_o their_o face_n you_o be_v they_o that_o have_v commit_v this_o sin_n you_o have_v crucify_v the_o lord_n of_o life_n this_o be_v your_o sin_n doctrine_n the_o doctrine_n from_o hence_o be_v this_o a_o special_a application_n of_o particular_a sin_n be_v a_o chief_a mean_n to_o bring_v people_n to_o a_o sight_n of_o their_o sin_n and_o to_o a_o true_a sorrow_n for_o they_o the_o apostle_n do_v not_o general_o propound_v their_o sin_n but_o he_o come_v home_o to_o their_o heart_n and_o it_o be_v not_o only_o do_v in_o this_o place_n but_o it_o have_v be_v the_o practice_n of_o all_o god_n faithful_a minister_n heretofore_o as_o john_n baptist_n he_o go_v not_o cunning_o to_o work_v secret_o to_o intimate_v some_o truth_n but_o he_o deal_v roundly_o with_o they_o and_o say_v o_o generation_n of_o viper_n who_o fore_n warn_v you_o to_o fly_v from_o the_o wrath_n to_o come_v 3.11.12_o and_o he_o show_v they_o their_o sin_n in_o particular_a and_o when_o the_o publican_n come_v to_o be_v baptize_v he_o say_v receive_v no_o more_o than_o be_v appoint_v for_o you_o and_o he_o say_v to_o the_o soldier_n do_v violence_n to_o no_o man_n and_o be_v content_a with_o your_o wage_n he_o be_v the_o minister_n of_o humiliation_n and_o preparation_n and_o therefore_o he_o deal_v thus_o plain_o with_o they_o when_o ahab_n have_v slay_v naboth_n the_o prophet_n elias_n come_v to_o he_o and_o say_v in_o the_o place_n where_o dog_n lick_v the_o blood_n of_o naboth_n shall_v dog_n lick_v thy_o blood_n â—1_n ahab_n say_v have_v thou_o find_v i_o out_o o_o my_o emenie_n and_o he_o he_o halt_v before_o the_o jew_n he_o do_v plain_o reprove_v he_o to_o his_o face_n and_o that_o not_o secret_o but_o because_o he_o have_v sin_v open_o therefore_o he_o reprove_v he_o open_o so_o also_o our_o saviour_n christ_n shake_v up_o the_o scribe_n and_o pharisee_n 23.13.14_o and_o this_o be_v the_o rule_n in_o general_a as_o the_o apostle_n say_v reprove_v they_o sharp_o object_n that_o they_o may_v be_v sound_a in_o the_o faith_n oh_o but_o some_o will_v say_v if_o i_o do_v thus_o plain_o deal_v with_o they_o i_o shall_v discourage_v they_o altogether_o answ._n nay_o it_o will_v make_v they_o sound_a christian_n indeed_o 2.2_o see_v what_o the_o lord_n say_v plead_v with_o your_o mother_n the_o word_n
those_o thing_n to_o his_o mind_n &_o the_o plague_n due_a thereunto_o so_o that_o he_o can_v escape_v the_o dint_n thereof_o it_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o our_o own_o heart_n that_o we_o be_v loath_a be_v a_o word_n of_o reproof_n against_o this_o practice_n and_o it_o fall_v marvellous_a heavy_a upon_o we_o all_o more_o or_o less_o in_o this_o kind_n for_o we_o be_v marvellous_a guilty_a in_o this_o kind_n that_o we_o be_v tardy_a in_o this_o duty_n a_o man_n have_v as_o good_a bring_v a_o bear_n to_o the_o stake_n as_o a_o carnal_a heart_n to_o the_o consideration_n of_o his_o own_o way_n much_o more_o loath_a be_v he_o to_o ponder_v serious_o and_o meditate_v continual_o upon_o his_o sin_n no_o man_n be_v so_o far_o from_o muse_v of_o their_o sin_n that_o they_o disdain_v this_o practice_n and_o scoff_n at_o it_o what_o say_v they_o if_o all_o be_v of_o your_o mind_n what_o shall_v become_v of_o we_o shall_v we_o always_o be_v pore_v on_o our_o corruption_n so_o we_o may_v hap_v to_o run_v mad_a if_o we_o be_v of_o your_o opinion_n thus_o we_o slight_a and_o put_v it_o off_o and_o trample_v on_o this_o duty_n which_o be_v so_o profitable_a the_o poor_a will_v not_o meditate_v on_o his_o sin_n he_o have_v no_o time_n the_o rich_a they_o need_v it_o not_o the_o wicked_a dare_v not_o and_o so_o no_o man_n will_v in_o this_o case_n what_o shall_v a_o man_n set_v his_o soul_n on_o a_o continual_a rack_n say_v they_o shall_v a_o man_n drive_v himself_o to_o a_o desperate_a stand_n and_o trouble_v himself_o unprofitable_o can_v man_n keep_v themselves_o when_o they_o be_v well_o this_o be_v the_o course_n and_o frame_v of_o the_o world_n and_o we_o may_v complain_v of_o this_o careless_a and_o heedless_a age_n as_o jeremiah_n do_v of_o his_o time_n jer._n himself_o for_o it_o as_o paul_n deal_v with_o himself_o which_o argue_v a_o heart_n true_o weary_a of_o corruption_n i_o be_v a_o persecutor_n and_o a_o blasphemer_n and_o the_o like_a and_o i_o be_v receive_v to_o mercy_n he_o do_v not_o say_v i_o be_v in_o horror_n or_o in_o trouble_n but_o i_o be_v a_o persecutor_n he_o do_v not_o say_v i_o be_v thus_o and_o thus_o plague_v but_o i_o be_v a_o injurious_a person_n to_o god_n church_n there_o he_o be_v weary_a and_o there_o he_o will_v be_v ease_v if_o it_o be_v possible_a let_v all_o vile_a wretch_n tremble_v at_o it_o for_o god_n have_v be_v a_o sign_n that_o he_o be_v never_o weary_a of_o sin_n that_o he_o be_v not_o will_v true_o to_o confess_v his_o sin_n when_o he_o be_v lawful_o call_v to_o it_o and_o when_o he_o pretend_v 〈◊〉_d it_o be_v true_a sometime_o god_n will_v accept_v of_o a_o confession_n make_v to_o he_o in_o secret_a if_o it_o be_v in_o truth_n but_o when_o god_n will_v have_v a_o man_n unbowell_v himself_o and_o break_a heart_n come_v not_o to_o flout_v at_o the_o minister_n nay_o that_o be_v a_o sturdy_a heart_n but_o a_o break_a heart_n shake_v at_o the_o word_n of_o god_n if_o there_o come_v a_o promise_n a_o break_a heart_n tremble_v lest_o he_o have_v no_o share_n in_o it_o and_o if_o there_o be_v any_o command_n he_o tremble_v lest_o he_o shall_v not_o be_v able_a to_o obey_v it_o but_o if_o the_o lord_n meet_v with_o some_o main_a lust_n as_o secret_a malice_n against_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n and_o secret_a uncleanness_n or_o the_o like_a if_o the_o lord_n give_v a_o wipe_n at_o these_o disease_n not_o that_o any_o minister_n under_o heaven_n can_v be_v so_o wife_n and_o holy_a as_o to_o give_v pardon_n to_o a_o poor_a sinner_n but_o only_o he_o be_v able_a ministerial_o to_o do_v it_o under_o god_n he_o must_v be_v able_a to_o approve_v himself_o the_o minister_n of_o god_n he_o must_v have_v the_o tongue_n of_o the_o learned_a and_o be_v able_a to_o break_v the_o heart_n and_o prepare_v the_o soul_n for_o christ_n and_o then_o to_o apply_v the_o cool_a promise_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o he_o there_o be_v many_o who_o in_o stead_n of_o cure_v of_o the_o soul_n kill_v it_o and_o by_o pop_v the_o sacrament_n into_o a_o man_n mouth_n think_v to_o send_v he_o to_o heaven_n but_o in_o conclusion_n send_v he_o to_o hell_n second_o he_o must_v be_v a_o merciful_a his_o faithfulness_n must_v appear_v in_o two_o thing_n first_o in_o deal_v plain_o with_o every_o one_o though_o a_o man_n be_v his_o patron_n or_o of_o what_o place_n or_o condition_n soever_o he_o be_v if_o he_o have_v a_o proud_a heart_n he_o must_v labour_v to_o humble_v he_o and_o second_o as_o he_o must_v apply_v a_o salve_n fit_v for_o the_o sore_a so_o he_o must_v be_v faithful_a in_o keep_v secret_a the_o sin_n that_o be_v lay_v open_a to_o he_o that_o nothing_o may_v fly_v abroad_o no_o not_o after_o his_o death_n except_o it_o be_v in_o some_o case_n now_o what_o remain_v sin_n but_o that_o you_o all_o be_v move_v to_o take_v up_o this_o duty_n and_o provoke_v your_o heart_n free_o to_o confess_v your_o evil_a way_n to_o which_o purpose_n let_v i_o give_v you_o three_o motive_n first_o because_o it_o be_v a_o very_a honourable_a thing_n &_o will_v exceed_o promote_v the_o cause_n of_o a_o christian_a you_o will_v hardly_o yield_v to_o this_o on_o the_o sudden_a a_o man_n do_v think_v that_o if_o the_o minister_n know_v his_o vileness_n he_o will_v abhor_v he_o for_o it_o but_o i_o assure_v you_o brethren_n there_o be_v nothing_o that_o do_v more_o set_v forth_o the_o honour_n of_o a_o christian_a and_o win_v the_o love_n of_o a_o minister_n than_o this_o indeed_o it_o be_v a_o shame_n to_o commit_v sin_n but_o no_o shame_n to_o confess_v it_o upon_o good_a ground_n nay_o when_o the_o heart_n come_v kind_o off_o it_o be_v admirable_a to_o see_v how_o a_o faithful_a minister_n will_v approve_v of_o such_o person_n his_o love_n be_v so_o great_a towards_o they_o o_o say_v the_o minister_n it_o do_v i_o good_a to_o hear_v that_o man_n confess_v so_o free_o i_o hope_v the_o lord_n have_v wrought_v kind_o in_o he_o certain_o now_o he_o be_v in_o the_o way_n to_o life_n and_o happiness_n oh_o how_o i_o love_v he_o i_o can_v even_o be_v content_a to_o put_v that_o man_n in_o my_o bosom_n whereas_o this_o overly_o and_o loose_a deal_n of_o you_o be_v experience_n this_o have_v break_v the_o neck_n of_o many_o a_o soul_n even_o because_o he_o will_v go_v out_o in_o single_a combat_n against_o satan_n and_o do_v what_o he_o can_v not_o reveal_v himself_o to_o other_o for_o help_n be_v overthrow_v for_o ever_o as_o it_o be_v with_o the_o impostume_a part_n of_o a_o man_n body_n when_o a_o man_n let_v out_o some_o of_o the_o corrupt_a matter_n and_o so_o skin_v it_o never_o heal_v it_o to_o the_o bottom_n at_o last_o it_o canker_n inward_o and_o come_v to_o a_o gangrene_n and_o the_o part_n must_v be_v cut_v off_o or_o else_o a_o man_n be_v in_o danger_n of_o his_o life_n so_o when_o you_o let_v out_o some_o corruption_n by_o a_o overly_o confession_n but_o suffer_v some_o bosom_n lust_n to_o remain_v still_o as_o malice_n or_o uncleanness_n etc._n etc._n then_o the_o soul_n canker_n and_o satan_n take_v possession_n of_o it_o and_o the_o soul_n be_v carry_v into_o fearful_a abomination_n many_o have_v fall_v foul_o and_o live_v long_o in_o their_o sin_n and_o all_o because_o they_o will_v not_o confess_v free_o therefore_o as_o you_o desire_v to_o find_v out_o the_o deceitfulness_n of_o your_o corruption_n confess_v consist_v three_o i_o will_v show_v the_o reason_n why_o it_o must_v be_v so_o for_o the_o first_o namely_o what_o dislike_v this_o be_v for_o the_o clear_n of_o which_o you_o must_v look_v back_o to_o that_o which_o i_o speak_v before_o of_o godly_a sorrow_n for_o of_o the_o very_a same_o stamp_n and_o nature_n be_v this_o dislike_n and_o hatred_n of_o sin_n and_o it_o be_v thus_o much_o in_o effect_n first_o be_v there_o be_v a_o hatred_n in_o preparation_n and_o second_o a_o hatred_n in_o â—sanctification_n both_o be_v save_v work_n but_o both_o be_v not_o sanctify_v work_n vocation_n bring_v to_o dislike_v sin_n this_o be_v a_o work_n wrought_v upon_o the_o soul_n rather_o than_o any_o
well_o please_v that_o any_o minister_n shall_v meet_v with_o the_o base_a haunt_n of_o his_o heart_n kill_v and_o if_o the_o word_n hit_v &_o wound_v that_o master-sinne_n of_o he_o he_o be_v marvellous_a content_n therewith_o he_o care_v not_o from_o who_o the_o help_n come_v the_o sharp_a and_o keen_a reproof_n that_o will_v shake_v his_o very_a heart_n and_o draw_v blood_n out_o of_o he_o be_v not_o able_a to_o see_v sin_n in_o other_o but_o so_o far_o as_o god_n have_v put_v authority_n and_o opportunity_n into_o his_o hand_n he_o pursue_v it_o with_o deadly_a indignation_n as_o a_o man_n that_o hate_v a_o murderer_n he_o will_v not_o only_o keep_v he_o from_o his_o own_o house_n but_o he_o pursue_v he_o even_o to_o the_o place_n of_o justice_n so_o the_o soul_n that_o true_o hate_v sin_n will_v not_o only_o keep_v sin_n from_o his_o own_o heart_n but_o he_o will_v pluck_v it_o from_o the_o heart_n of_o other_o so_o far_o as_o possible_o he_o may_v when_o haman_n have_v a_o spleen_n against_o mordecai_n he_o be_v not_o only_o desirous_a to_o kill_v he_o but_o he_o will_v kill_v all_o the_o nation_n of_o the_o jew_n this_o be_v hatred_n indeed_o so_o it_o be_v with_o a_o break_a heart_n if_o a_o break_a heart_a father_n have_v have_v a_o proud_a heart_n and_o have_v be_v weary_v with_o it_o he_o labour_v to_o kill_v all_o the_o brood_n of_o those_o curse_a distemper_n in_o his_o child_n last_o he_o labour_v to_o cross_v and_o undermine_v all_o those_o occasion_n and_o mean_n that_o have_v give_v any_o succour_n to_o his_o corruption_n of_o heart_n the_o soul_n have_v such_o a_o secret_a grudge_n against_o the_o thrive_a of_o sin_n sin_v that_o it_o loathe_v all_o occasion_n that_o may_v maintain_v his_o sin_n as_o the_o drunkard_n and_o adulterer_n hate_v the_o place_n where_o they_o go_v in_o to_o commit_v sin_n as_o in_o war_n haply_o they_o can_v take_v the_o enemy_n but_o they_o will_v drive_v he_o out_o of_o the_o country_n and_o burn_v down_o all_o his_o fort_n and_o fill_v up_o all_o his_o trench_n that_o he_o may_v find_v no_o provision_n so_o the_o heart_n that_o true_o hate_v sin_n and_o have_v be_v true_o break_v for_o it_o mary_n magdalen_n &_o the_o reason_n why_o it_o be_v so_o 7.38_o be_v this_o because_o the_o heart_n that_o have_v be_v break_v for_o sin_n and_o burden_v with_o the_o evil_a of_o it_o have_v now_o misery_n and_o what_o be_v the_o mint_n out_o of_o which_o all_o these_o plague_n and_o judgement_n come_v be_v it_o not_o my_o sin_n it_o be_v not_o poverty_n it_o be_v not_o sickness_n nor_o disgrace_n that_o pinch_v i_o but_o my_o sin_n first_o cause_v all_o these_o it_o be_v the_o poison_n of_o sin_n in_o poverty_n and_o the_o poison_n of_o sin_n in_o shame_n and_o the_o wrath_n of_o have_v be_v wound_v with_o it_o therefore_o let_v i_o advise_v all_o those_o that_o desire_v to_o have_v a_o evidence_n of_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n in_o their_o soul_n to_o go_v in_o secret_a and_o examine_v their_o heart_n whether_o they_o can_v make_v hue_n and_o cry_n after_o their_o corruption_n can_v you_o be_v content_a that_o all_o your_o sinful_a distemper_n even_o those_o that_o will_v affect_v you_o most_o shall_v be_v make_v know_v either_o in_o public_a by_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n or_o in_o private_a by_o some_o faithful_a christian_n and_o can_v you_o be_v content_a that_o he_o shall_v come_v home_o to_o your_o heart_n and_o drag_v out_o your_o corruption_n before_o the_o world_n then_o you_o have_v be_v wound_v for_o sin_n and_o be_v enemy_n against_o it_o as_o
