state_n of_o hardness_n and_o desperate_a wickedness_n but_o still_o i_o mean_v as_o to_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n for_o alas_o if_o the_o devil_n tempt_v if_o the_o world_n allure_v if_o the_o flesh_n lust_n after_o its_o own_o thing_n if_o any_o profit_n pleasure_n honour_n preferment_n or_o advantage_n be_v offer_v to_o we_o oh_o how_o soon_o then_o have_v we_o a_o eye_n to_o see_v a_o ear_n to_o hear_v and_o a_o open_a heart_n to_o receive_v these_o thing_n though_o tend_v never_o so_o much_o to_o our_o soul_n ruin_v and_o destruction_n but_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n god_n may_v call_v and_o call_v again_o he_o may_v stand_v at_o the_o door_n and_o knock_v day_n after_o day_n he_o may_v cry_v aloud_o in_o our_o ear_n by_o his_o word_n work_n and_o providence_n he_o may_v threaten_v death_n damnation_n and_o destruction_n by_o the_o law_n and_o again_o sweet_o tender_a grace_n mercy_n forgiveness_n of_o sin_n and_o salvation_n by_o the_o gospel_n time_n after_o time_n and_o in_o sermon_n after_o sermon_n and_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o man_z whilst_o in_o nature_n have_v neither_o eye_n to_o see_v ear_n to_o hear_v nor_o heart_n to_o receive_v oh_o sad_a condition_n but_o again_o three_o the_o state_n of_o christ_n church_n in_o general_n and_o of_o every_o member_n thereof_o in_o particular_a before_o call_v by_o christ_n etc._n etc._n be_v a_o state_n of_o blindness_n and_o insensibility_n for_o though_o man_n in_o this_o estate_n lie_v in_o the_o gall_n of_o bitterness_n and_o bond_n of_o iniquity_n chain_v up_o in_o the_o devil_n prison_n where_o with_o the_o great_a expedition_n towards_o everlasting_a damnation_n sleep_v and_o snore_v in_o a_o condition_n near_o equivalent_a to_o the_o damn_a in_o hell_n and_o though_o he_o hear_v all_o this_o from_o the_o scripture_n and_o god_n minister_n yet_o still_o he_o remain_v blind_a and_o insensible_a till_o god_n move_v upon_o the_o heart_n see_v eph._n 4.18_o but_o four_o for_o i_o haste_v the_o state_n of_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n and_o every_o member_n thereof_o whilst_o in_o nature_n and_o uncalled_a be_v a_o state_n of_o alienation_n from_o god_n alas_o whilst_o thus_o they_o have_v no_o true_a knowledge_n of_o he_o nor_o fellowship_n with_o he_o they_o see_v he_o not_o nor_o enjoy_v he_o though_o in_o he_o they_o live_v move_v and_o have_v their_o be_v they_o rise_v up_o in_o the_o morning_n and_o lie_v down_o again_o at_o night_n day_n after_o day_n month_n after_o month_n and_o yet_o have_v not_o god_n in_o a_o godly_a way_n as_o much_o as_o once_o in_o all_o their_o thought_n they_o rare_o do_v as_o much_o as_o once_o serious_o consider_v whether_o they_o be_v go_v to_o life_n or_o death_n to_o heaven_n or_o hell_n to_o god_n or_o the_o devil_n five_o and_o last_o the_o state_n of_o christ_n church_n in_o general_n and_o every_o member_n thereof_o in_o particular_a before_o effectual_o call_v by_o christ_n to_o himself_o be_v a_o state_n of_o deceiveableness_n this_o paul_n confess_v to_o titus_n titus_n 3.3_o for_o alas_o general_o nay_o i_o think_v i_o may_v say_v always_o they_o that_o be_v most_o without_o god_n have_v the_o least_o sense_n of_o the_o want_n of_o god_n they_o that_o be_v most_o with_o the_o devil_n be_v in_o the_o least_o fear_n of_o the_o devil_n and_o they_o that_o be_v real_o the_o great_a sinner_n be_v the_o least_o trouble_a for_o their_o sin_n for_o either_o they_o be_v whole_o carnal_a in_o their_o life_n as_o well_o as_o heart_n and_o so_o mind_v no_o religion_n at_o all_o or_o else_o they_o fall_v a_o do_v and_o work_v for_o life_n build_v upon_o their_o prayer_n duty_n work_n and_o obedience_n think_v these_o shall_v stand_v they_o in_o some_o stead_n conclude_v that_o if_o they_o can_v but_o live_v civil_o deal_v just_o do_v their_o duty_n orderly_o and_o keep_v all_o god_n commandment_n to_o the_o utmost_a of_o their_o power_n according_a to_o the_o law_n well_o then_o undoubted_o all_o shall_v be_v well_o with_o they_o both_o in_o death_n and_o judgement_n and_o consequent_o to_o eternity_n though_o they_o know_v nothing_o no_o nothing_o of_o christ_n the_o gospel_n faith_n nor_o self-denial_n not_o mind_v that_o the_o scripture_n say_v that_o there_o be_v no_o name_n give_v under_o heaven_n whereby_o we_o can_v be_v save_v but_o the_o name_n of_o jesus_n and_o that_o whosoever_o believe_v not_o in_o he_o shall_v be_v damn_v for_o without_o faith_n it_o be_v impossible_a to_o please_v he_o but_o do_v and_o live_v be_v the_o only_a religion_n mention_v some_o of_o the_o great_a let_n hindrance_n and_o impediment_n which_o do_v most_o interrupt_v this_o bless_a union_n and_o agreement_n betwixt_o christ_n and_o his_o church_n which_o indeed_o be_v many_o but_o time_n will_v but_o permit_v i_o to_o mention_v some_o few_o and_o the_o first_o main_n let_v or_o hindrance_n be_v the_o want_n of_o a_o thorough_a sight_n and_o a_o true_a be_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o ready_a and_o forward_o to_o incline_v to_o and_o seek_v after_o the_o benefit_n and_o cure_n of_o the_o body_n than_o the_o benefit_n and_o cure_n of_o the_o soul_n insomuch_o that_o a_o man_n of_o who_o i_o have_v hear_v who_o desert_v and_o forsake_v the_o work_n of_o the_o ministry_n in_o which_o he_o have_v spend_v much_o labour_n and_o travel_n to_o take_v up_o the_o practice_n of_o physic_n and_o be_v ask_v the_o reason_n why_o he_o return_v this_o answer_n because_o say_v he_o i_o see_v people_n be_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o careful_a of_o their_o whole_a need_v not_o a_o physician_n but_o they_o that_o be_v sick_a the_o reason_n therefore_o why_o christ_n our_o great_a physician_n of_o soul_n be_v so_o much_o slight_v be_v because_o so_o few_o be_v sensible_a of_o their_o soul_n malady_n and_o distemper_n and_o the_o case_n be_v the_o same_o in_o the_o point_n in_o hand_n for_o the_o main_a reason_n why_o poor_a sinner_n be_v no_o more_o free_a to_o change_v their_o estate_n to_o forsake_v their_o first_o husband_n viz._n the_o devil_n and_o the_o world_n and_o to_o be_v join_v and_o marry_v to_o jesus_n christ_n be_v because_o they_o see_v not_o the_o danger_n and_o misery_n which_o they_o lie_v in_o and_o under_o in_o the_o condition_n in_o which_o they_o be_v a_o second_o let_v or_o hindrance_n in_o this_o matter_n be_v person_n be_v so_o much_o in_o love_n with_o their_o present_a state_n and_o the_o pleasure_n and_o profit_n which_o as_o they_o suppose_v they_o enjoy_v therein_o for_o the_o proof_n of_o this_o see_v that_o place_n in_o matth._n 22._o at_o the_o beginning_n where_o the_o text_n tell_v we_o that_o a_o great_a king_n i._n e._n god_n make_v a_o marriage_n for_o his_o son_n i.e._n christ_n and_o send_v forth_o his_o servant_n to_o call_v they_o that_o be_v bid_v to_o the_o wedding_n but_o what_o say_v the_o text_n well_o they_o will_v not_o come_v again_o he_o send_v forth_o other_o servant_n to_o tell_v they_o that_o all_o thing_n be_v ready_a this_o be_v not_o only_o to_o invite_v but_o also_o to_o persuade_v but_o what_o say_v the_o text_n ver._n 5._o well_o they_o do_v not_o only_o refuse_v
