they_o the_o danger_n of_o their_o sickness_n that_o be_v of_o their_o sin_n and_o the_o remedy_n against_o it_o which_o be_v repentance_n and_o wish_v they_o to_o use_v it_o persuade_v they_o especial_o to_o go_v to_o christ_n by_o faith_n who_o be_v the_o only_a physician_n to_o cure_v sin_n but_o of_o this_o more_o in_o the_o next_o observation_n observe_v 2_o observe_v 2._o christ_n jesus_n be_v a_o spiritual_a physician_n to_o cure_v man_n of_o their_o sin_n therefore_o he_o call_v himself_o by_o the_o name_n of_o a_o physician_n in_o this_o place_n by_o way_n of_o resemblance_n unto_o bodily_a physician_n and_o the_o like_a resemblance_n be_v make_v elsewhere_o as_o luk._n 4._o 18._o he_o have_v send_v i_o to_o heal_v the_o brokenhearted_a etc._n etc._n isa_n 53._o 5._o with_o his_o stripe_n we_o be_v heal_v and_o ver_fw-la 4._o he_o be_v say_v to_o have_v bear_v our_o grief_n or_o sickness_n that_o be_v our_o sin_n which_o be_v our_o spiritual_a sickness_n see_v also_o revel_v 3._o 18._o here_o consider_v two_o thing_n further_a 1._o how_o christ_n do_v heal_v and_o cure_v sinner_n 2._o who_o he_o doâ—h_v heal_v touch_v the_o first_o christ_n heal_v and_o cure_v man_n of_o their_o sin_n two_o way_n or_o by_o a_o twofold_a spiritual_a remedy_n or_o medicine_n the_o first_o be_v his_o own_o precious_a blood_n that_o be_v the_o merit_n and_o virtue_n of_o his_o death_n and_o suffering_n by_o which_o he_o make_v satisfaction_n to_o god_n for_o our_o sin_n do_v free_v we_o from_o the_o guilt_n of_o they_o thus_o he_o cure_v we_o of_o they_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o guilt_n and_o this_o be_v do_v perfect_o in_o this_o life_n the_o second_o spiritual_a remedy_n be_v the_o powerful_a and_o effectual_a operation_n of_o his_o spirit_n by_o which_o he_o kill_v and_o weaken_v the_o corruption_n of_o sin_n so_o that_o it_o reign_v not_o in_o we_o thus_o he_o cure_v we_o of_o the_o corruption_n of_o sin_n but_o this_o be_v not_o do_v perfect_o in_o this_o life_n but_o in_o part_n only_o for_o the_o corruption_n of_o sin_n do_v still_o remain_v in_o we_o in_o some_o degree_n during_o this_o life_n only_o it_o be_v so_o subdue_v and_o mortify_v in_o we_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n that_o it_o can_v so_o reign_v and_o bear_v sway_n as_o it_o do_v in_o the_o wicked_a touch_v the_o second_o thing_n to_o be_v show_v namely_o what_o person_n they_o be_v who_o christ_n cure_v answ_n not_o all_o sinner_n but_o first_o such_o only_a as_o have_v faith_n to_o apply_v christ_n and_o the_o merit_n of_o his_o death_n and_o suffering_n to_o themselves_o by_o which_o faith_n also_o they_o receive_v and_o apply_v to_o themselves_o that_o spirit_n of_o christ_n by_o which_o the_o corruption_n of_o sin_n be_v mortify_v in_o they_o 2._o such_o as_o feel_v their_o spiritual_a disease_n so_o luke_n 4._o 18._o use_v 1_o use_v 1._o matter_n of_o great_a comfort_n to_o such_o as_o feel_v their_o sin_n and_o do_v unfeigned_o desire_v to_o be_v ease_v of_o they_o let_v they_o know_v that_o there_o be_v a_o spiritual_a physician_n that_o be_v both_o able_a and_o willing_a to_o cure_v these_o their_o spiritual_a disease_n if_o they_o seek_v to_o he_o it_o be_v a_o great_a comfort_n to_o a_o sick_a person_n to_o know_v of_o a_o good_a and_o able_a physician_n near_o at_o hand_n so_o as_o he_o may_v be_v have_v and_o procure_v to_o cure_v he_o much_o more_o be_v it_o a_o comfort_n to_o the_o humble_a sinner_n to_o know_v that_o christ_n be_v send_v of_o god_n to_o be_v our_o spiritual_a physician_n to_o heal_v we_o of_o our_o sin_n and_o that_o there_o be_v no_o spiritual_a sickness_n or_o disease_n of_o sin_n in_o we_o but_o he_o be_v well_o able_a to_o cure_v and_o heal_v we_o of_o it_o beside_o he_o know_v all_o our_o disease_n etc._n etc._n use_v 2_o use_v 2._o seek_v to_o christ_n jesus_n in_o the_o spiritual_a sickness_n and_o disease_n of_o our_o soul_n to_o be_v heal_v of_o they_o all_o labour_n by_o true_a faith_n to_o apply_v to_o thyself_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o merit_n and_o virtue_n of_o it_o which_o be_v as_o a_o sovereign_a salve_n or_o medicine_n to_o heal_v thy_o disease_a sick_a soul_n and_o conscience_n of_o the_o guilt_n of_o all_o thy_o sin_n withal_o pray_v unto_o he_o to_o heal_v the_o corruption_n of_o thy_o nature_n and_o to_o mortify_v and_o kill_v it_o in_o thou_o more_o and_o more_o by_o the_o work_n of_o his_o spirit_n so_o much_o of_o the_o first_o reason_n by_o which_o our_o saviour_n christ_n prove_v against_o the_o scribe_n and_o pharisee_n that_o it_o be_v lawful_a for_o he_o to_o company_n with_o publican_n and_o sinner_n namely_o because_o they_o be_v spiritual_o disease_a with_o sin_n have_v need_n of_o the_o society_n and_o other_o such_o who_o think_v themselves_o righteous_a when_o they_o be_v not_o answ_n answ_n yes_o he_o come_v to_o call_v they_o outward_o and_o therefore_o he_o use_v mean_n by_o his_o preach_a and_o conference_n to_o convert_v they_o if_o they_o will_v have_v be_v reform_v yet_o he_o be_v say_v not_o to_o come_v to_o call_v they_o because_o they_o be_v puff_v up_o with_o a_o proud_a conceit_n of_o their_o own_o righteousness_n obstinate_o refuse_v to_o obey_v christ_n calling_n though_o he_o call_v they_o with_o a_o outward_a call_n yet_o because_o they_o be_v not_o obedient_a to_o this_o call_n but_o continue_v still_o in_o their_o sin_n think_v themselves_o holy_a enough_o already_o therefore_o he_o be_v say_v not_o to_o come_v to_o call_v they_o because_o he_o do_v not_o come_v to_o call_v they_o effectual_o sinner_n such_o especial_o as_o do_v in_o some_o measure_n feel_v their_o sin_n and_o be_v humble_v for_o they_o and_o desirous_a to_o be_v free_v from_o they_o repentance_n true_a conversion_n or_o turn_v from_o sin_n unto_o god_n not_o to_o call_v the_o righteous_a observe_v so_o long_o as_o man_n be_v puff_v up_o with_o spiritual_a pride_n and_o with_o a_o vain_a opinion_n of_o their_o own_o goodness_n and_o righteousness_n they_o be_v altogether_o unfit_a to_o yield_v obedience_n to_o the_o call_n of_o christ_n whereby_o he_o call_v they_o out_o of_o their_o sin_n this_o overween_a conceit_n of_o their_o own_o righteousness_n be_v a_o main_a hindrance_n that_o keep_v the_o scribe_n and_o pharisee_n from_o be_v effectual_o call_v of_o christ_n they_o be_v such_o as_o think_v themselves_o so_o good_a and_o holy_a already_o that_o they_o have_v no_o need_n of_o repentance_n therefore_o though_o our_o saviour_n use_v mean_n to_o reclaim_v they_o yet_o be_v they_o never_o the_o better_o in_o which_o respect_n it_o be_v say_v here_o that_o he_o come_v not_o to_o call_v such_o as_o they_o be_v who_o think_v themselves_o righteous_a enough_o because_o though_o he_o call_v they_o outward_o by_o his_o ministry_n yet_o this_o proud_a conceit_n of_o their_o own_o righteousness_n hinder_v they_o from_o be_v obedient_a to_o his_o call_n luke_n 16._o 14._o when_o our_o saviour_n reprove_v the_o sin_n of_o covetousness_n yet_o the_o pharisee_n who_o be_v covetor_n be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v reclaim_v by_o that_o reproof_n that_o they_o deride_v he_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o they_o be_v such_o as_o justify_v themselves_o as_o our_o saviour_n tell_v they_o ver_fw-la 15._o to_o this_o purpose_n be_v that_o rom._n because_o they_o think_v themselves_o holy_a and_o righteous_a enough_o already_o and_o that_o they_o have_v no_o need_n of_o reformation_n many_o such_o pharisee_n we_o have_v in_o these_o time_n such_o must_v deny_v themselves_o and_o renounce_v their_o own_o righteousness_n etc._n etc._n mark_v 2._o 17._o but_o sinner_n to_o repentance_n 1619._o july_n 4._o 1619._o observe_v 1_o observe_v such_o as_o be_v in_o the_o regenerate_v use_v 2_o use_v 2._o see_v what_o to_o think_v of_o such_o as_o feel_v no_o combat_n or_o strife_n at_o all_o in_o themselves_o when_o they_o be_v tempt_v unto_o sin_n no_o reluctation_n or_o resistance_n against_o sinful_a motion_n and_o suggestion_n of_o satan_n and_o of_o their_o own_o flesh_n but_o they_o easy_o and_o quick_o yield_v and_o give_v and_o thy_o own_o distrustful_a heart_n tempt_v thou_o to_o doubt_v of_o god_n love_n and_o pardon_n of_o thy_o sin_n observe_v 3_o observe_v 3._o in_o that_o our_o saviour_n use_v this_o motive_n or_o reason_n to_o move_v his_o disciple_n to_o forgive_v their_o enemy_n that_o so_o they_o may_v be_v forgive_v of_o god_n and_o be_v assure_v hereof_o in_o their_o conscience_n hence_o learn_v
