persecution_n etc._n etc._n we_o like_v not_o like_o a_o heartless_a wife_n that_o love_v and_o obey_v her_o husband_n so_o long_o as_o he_o pamper_v she_o and_o keep_v her_o fair_a and_o fine_a but_o when_o he_o fall_v into_o poverty_n forsake_v he_o and_o take_v another_o as_o the_o rich_a lawyer_n and_o dives_n do_v so_o that_o christ_n may_v well_o say_v who_o have_v believe_v our_o report_n or_o to_o who_o be_v the_o power_n of_o christ_n death_n effectual_a see_v all_o be_v so_o knit_v to_o the_o world_n and_o ourselves_o that_o he_o and_o his_o word_n be_v not_o regard_v 1._o the_o world_n we_o love_v as_o father_n mother_n ease_n fullness_n etc._n etc._n and_o these_o darken_v the_o heart_n and_o give_v such_o a_o peace_n to_o the_o flesh_n that_o we_o see_v not_o the_o misery_n of_o our_o spirit_n 2._o we_o love_v our_o own_o fancy_n and_o thought_n &_o knowledge_n and_o quality_n and_o think_v these_o will_v help_v we_o and_o plead_v for_o we_o 3._o we_o love_v ourselves_o and_o any_o thing_n that_o may_v preserve_v our_o fleshly_a kingdom_n but_o the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n we_o cast_v off_o 1_o one_o rather_o than_o want_v his_o will_n another_o rather_o than_o want_v the_o world_n another_o rather_o than_o want_v ease_n and_o life_n set_v christ_n aside_o so_o that_o we_o may_v say_v how_o dwell_v the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o these_o 2._o but_o see_v christ_n be_v esteem_v and_o love_v of_o none_o but_o miserable_a and_o sinful_a man_n in_o themselves_o who_o though_o he_o kâ—ll_v they_o yet_o they_o will_v love_v he_o these_o tread_v all_o church_n the_o 1._o be_v like_o the_o high_a way_n which_o be_v so_o tread_v by_o the_o daily_a path_n of_o man_n that_o it_o be_v harden_v and_o the_o seed_n can_v take_v no_o root_n therein_o such_o be_v in_o the_o church_n so_o that_o those_o in_o who_o the_o world_n and_o lust_n have_v a_o daily_a &_o continual_a path_n and_o custom_n become_v so_o harden_v thereby_o that_o the_o gospel_n take_v little_a effect_n with_o they_o so_o have_v israel_n isa_n 28._o that_o they_o make_v a_o mock_n of_o the_o prophet_n so_o the_o young_a lawyer_n 1._o for_o hereby_o the_o heart_n be_v fill_v and_o sore_o stall_v psal_n 119._o they_o be_v as_o fat_a as_o brawn_n &_o regard_v not_o thy_o law_n 2._o hereby_o be_v the_o ear_n stop_v and_o the_o heart_n harden_v like_o a_o drunkard_n that_o they_o can_v hear_v nor_o mind_n nothing_o 3._o for_o if_o that_o every_o passage_n of_o the_o world_n leave_v such_o a_o wound_n as_o in_o david_n what_o a_o bondage_n when_o it_o have_v a_o path_n gospel_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o flesh_n this_o hardness_n be_v nothing_o but_o the_o close_n up_o of_o the_o mind_n in_o self-love_n or_o of_o the_o creature_n and_o depend_v thereon_o love_v live_a and_o delight_v therein_o so_o that_o mercy_n in_o christ_n be_v despise_v 1._o hence_o see_v why_o the_o gospel_n prosper_v not_o viz._n because_o of_o the_o hardness_n of_o our_o heart_n because_o that_o we_o neither_o feel_v our_o own_o misery_n nor_o trust_v in_o god_n mercy_n 1._o some_o so_o confident_a and_o close_v up_o in_o themselves_o that_o they_o trample_v the_o word_n and_o christ_n under_o foot_n 2._o other_o know_v and_o comprehend_v it_o but_o hard_a and_o bind_v at_o the_o bottom_n 3._o other_o dispute_v and_o talk_v of_o it_o from_o a_o hard_a heart_n no_o faith_n no_o bowel_n of_o mercy_n but_o talk_v as_o lord_n and_o master_n of_o the_o scripture_n and_o so_o nothing_o but_o unprofitable_a find_v and_o pride_n and_o vain_a glory_n be_v the_o bellows_n that_o
