but_o that_o you_o worthy_o receive_v this_o sacrament_n shall_v receive_v remission_n of_o all_o your_o sin_n or_o rather_o certainty_n that_o they_o be_v remit_v and_o that_o you_o be_v even_o now_o god_n darling_n temple_n and_o fellow_n inheritor_n of_o all_o the_o good_a that_o ever_o he_o have_v wherefore_o see_v that_o you_o give_v thanks_n unto_o the_o lord_n for_o this_o his_o great_a goodness_n and_o praise_v his_o name_n for_o ever_o ●ecei●ing_n oh_o say_v one_o i_o can_v be_v glad_a in_o very_a deed_n and_o give_v thanks_n from_o my_o very_a heart_n if_o that_o i_o do_v worthy_o receive_v this_o sacrament_n but_o alas_o i_o be_o a_o very_a grievous_a sinner_n and_o i_o feel_v in_o myself_o very_o little_a repentance_n and_o faith_n and_o therefore_o i_o be_o afraid_a that_o i_o be_o unworthy_a answer_n to_o the_o answer_v of_o this_o objection_n i_o think_v it_o necessary_a to_o speak_v some_o thing_n of_o the_o worthy_a receive_n of_o this_o sacrament_n in_o as_o great_a brevity_n &_o playnnesse_n as_o i_o can_v the_o apostle_n will_v all_o man_n to_o prove_v and_o examine_v themselves_o before_o they_o eat_v of_o the_o bread_n and_o drink_v

the_o devil_n and_o so_o will_v satan_n work_v prosper_v though_o not_o in_o all_o thing_n to_o blear_v our_o eye_n yet_o in_o that_o thing_n which_o he_o most_o of_o all_o desire_v therefore_o to_o repentance_n for_o ourselves_o private_o and_o for_o the_o realm_n and_o church_n public_o every_o one_o shall_v labour_v to_o stir_v up_o both_o ourselves_o and_o other_o this_o to_o the_o end_n that_o for_o my_o part_n i_o may_v help_v i_o have_v present_o put_v forth_o a_o sermon_n of_o repentance_n which_o have_v lie_v by_o i_o half_o a_o year_n at_o the_o least_o for_o the_o most_o part_n of_o it_o for_o the_o last_o summer_n as_o i_o be_v abroad_o preach_v in_o the_o country_n my_o chance_n be_v to_o make_v a_o sermon_n of_o repentance_n the_o which_o be_v earnest_o of_o diverse_a desire_a of_o i_o that_o i_o shall_v give_v it_o they_o write_v or_o else_o put_v it_o forth_o in_o print_n the_o which_o thing_n to_o grant_v as_o i_o can_v not_o for_o i_o have_v not_o write_v it_o so_o i_o tell_v they_o that_o have_v so_o earnest_o desire_v it_o but_o when_o no_o nay_o will_v serve_v but_o i_o must_v promise_v they_o to_o write_v it_o as_o i_o can_v i_o consent_v to_o their_o request_n that_o they_o shall_v have_v it_o at_o my_o leisure_n this_o leisure_n i_o prolong_v so_o long_o that_o as_o i_o ween_v i_o offend_v they_o so_o do_v i_o please_v myself_o as_o one_o more_o glad_a to_o read_v other_o man_n writing_n then_o in_o such_o sort_n to_o publish_v my_o own_o for_o other_o man_n to_o read_v not_o that_o i_o will_v other_o not_o to_o profit_v by_o i_o but_o that_o i_o know_v how_o slender_a my_o store_n be_v will_v be_v loath_a for_o the_o enemy_n to_o have_v just_a occasion_n of_o evil_a speak_n and_o wrest_v that_o which_o simple_o be_v speak_v but_o when_o i_o consider_v this_o present_a time_n to_o occasion_n man_n now_o to_o look_v upon_o all_o thing_n in_o such_o sort_n as_o may_v move_v they_o to_o godliness_n rather_o than_o to_o any_o curious_a question_n i_o for_o the_o satisfy_n of_o my_o promise_n and_o profit_v of_o the_o simple_a ignorant_a and_o rude_a have_v now_o cause_v this_o sermon_n to_o be_v print_v the_o which_o i_o beseech_v god_n for_o his_o christ_n sake_n to_o use_v as_o a_o mean_a whereby_o of_o his_o mercy_n it_o may_v please_v he_o to_o work_v in_o i_o and_o many_o other_o true_a hearty_a repentance_n for_o our_o sin_n to_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o name_n thus_o fare_v thou_o well_o in_o the_o lord_n the_o twelve_o of_o july_n 1553._o a_o fruitful_a sermon_n of_o repentance_n make_v by_o the_o constant_a martyr_n of_o christ_n master_n john_n bradford_n 1553._o the_o life_n we_o have_v at_o this_o present_a be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n in_o who_o we_o live_v move_v and_o be_v and_o therefore_o he_o be_v call_v jehova_n for_o the_o which_o life_n as_o we_o shall_v be_v thankful_a so_o we_o may_v not_o in_o any_o wise_a use_v it_o after_o our_o own_o fantasy_n but_o to_o the_o end_n for_o the_o which_o it_o be_v give_v and_o lend_v we_o that_o be_v to_o the_o set_v forth_o of_o god_n praise_n and_o glory_n by_o repentance_n conversion_n and_o obedience_n to_o his_o good_a will_n and_o holy_a law_n whereunto_o his_o long_a suffering_n do_v as_o it_o be_v even_o draw_v we_o if_o our_o heart_n by_o impenitency_n be_v not_o harden_v and_o therefore_o our_o life_n in_o the_o scripture_n be_v call_v a_o walk_a for_o that_o as_o the_o body_n daily_o draw_v more_o and_o more_o near_a his_o end_n that_o be_v the_o earth_n even_o so_o our_o soul_n draw_v daily_o more_o and_o more_o near_o unto_o death_n that_o be_v salvation_n or_o damnation_n heaven_n or_o hell_n of_o which_o thing_n in_o that_o we_o be_v most_o careless_a and_o very_a fool_n for_o we_o alas_o be_v the_o same_o to_o day_n we_o be_v yesterday_o and_o not_o better_o or_o near_o to_o god_n but_o rather_o near_a to_o hell_n satan_n &_o perdition_n be_v covetous_a idle_a carnal_a secure_a negligent_a proud_a etc._n etc._n i_o think_v my_o labour_n can_v be_v better_o bestow_v then_o with_o the_o baptist_n christ_n jesus_n &_o his_o apostle_n to_o harp_n on_o this_o string_n which_o of_o all_o other_o be_v most_o necessary_a and_o that_o in_o these_o day_n most_o special_o what_o string_n be_v that_o say_v one_o forsooth_o brother_n the_o string_n of_o repentance_n the_o which_o christ_n our_o saviour_n do_v use_v first_o in_o his_o ministry_n &_o as_o his_o minister_n at_o this_o present_a i_o will_v use_v unto_o you_o all_o 4._o repent_v for_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n be_v at_o hand_n this_o sentence_n thus_o pronounce_v &_o preach_v by_o our_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n as_o it_o do_v command_v we_o to_o repent_v so_o to_o the_o do_n of_o the_o same_o it_o show_v we_o a_o sufficient_a cause_n to_o stir_v we_o up_o thereunto_o namely_o for_o that_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n which_o be_v a_o kingdom_n of_o all_o joy_n peace_n riches_n power_n and_o pleasure_n be_v at_o hand_n to_o all_o such_o as_o do_v so_o that_o be_v as_o do_v repent_v so_o that_o the_o meaning_n hereof_o be_v as_o though_o our_o saviour_n may_v thus_o speak_v present_o sir_n for_o that_o i_o see_v that_o be_v a_o other_o manner_n of_o joy_n and_o felicity_n honour_n and_o riches_n power_n and_o pleasure_n than_o you_o now_o perceive_v or_o enjoy_v be_v even_o at_o hand_n and_o at_o your_o back_n as_o if_o you_o will_v turn_v again_o that_o be_v repent_v you_o you_o shall_v most_o true_o and_o pleasant_o feel_v see_v and_o inherit_v turn_v again_o therefore_o i_o say_v that_o be_v repent_v for_o this_o joy_n i_o speak_v of_o even_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n be_v at_o hand_n here_o we_o may_v note_v first_o the_o corruption_n of_o our_o nature_n in_o that_o to_o this_o commandment_n repent_v you_o he_o add_v a_o cause_n for_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n be_v at_o hand_n for_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o corruption_n &_o sturdine_n of_o our_o nature_n god_n unto_o all_o his_o commandment_n common_o either_o add_v some_o promise_n to_o provoke_v we_o to_o obedience_n or_o else_o some_o such_o sufficient_a cause_n as_o can_v but_o tickle_v we_o up_o to_o hearty_a hand_n again_o in_o that_o he_o join_v to_o the_o commandment_n the_o cause_n say_v for_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n be_v at_o hand_n we_o may_v learn_v that_o of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n none_o to_o who_o the_o ministry_n of_o preach_v do_v appertain_v can_v be_v partaker_n but_o such_o as_o repent_v and_o do_v penance_n therefore_o dear_o belove_v if_o you_o regard_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n in_o that_o you_o can_v enter_v therein_o except_o you_o repent_v i_o beseech_v you_o all_o of_o every_o estate_n as_o you_o will_v your_o own_o weal_n to_o repent_v and_o do_v penance_n the_o which_o thing_n that_o you_o may_v do_v i_o will_v do_v my_o best_a now_o to_o help_v you_o by_o god_n grace_n but_o first_o because_o we_o can_v well_o tell_v what_o repentance_n be_v through_o ignorance_n and_o for_o lack_v of_o knowledge_n and_o false_a teach_n i_o will_v to_o begin_v with_o all_o show_v you_o what_o repentance_n be_v repentance_n or_o penance_n be_v no_o english_a word_n but_o we_o borrow_v it_o of_o the_o latinist_n to_o who_o penance_n be_v a_o forthinking_a in_o english_a in_o greek_a a_o be_v wise_a afterward_o in_o hebrew_n a_o conversion_n or_o turn_n the_o which_o conversion_n or_o turn_n in_o that_o it_o can_v be_v true_a &_o hearty_a unto_o god_n especial_o without_o some_o good_a hope_n or_o trust_v of_o pardon_n for_o that_o which_o be_v already_o do_v and_o pass_v i_o may_v well_o in_o this_o sort_n define_v it_o namely_o that_o penance_n be_v a_o sorrow_n or_o forthink_v of_o our_o sin_n ●ast_n a_o earnest_a purpose_n to_o amend_v or_o turn_v to_o god_n with_o a_o trust_n of_o pardon_n this_o definition_n may_v be_v divide_v into_o three_o part_n first_o a_o sorrow_n for_o our_o ●innes_n second_o a_o trust_n of_o pardon_n which_o otherwise_o may_v be_v call_v a_o persuasion_n of_o god_n mercy_n by_o the_o merit_n
