punish_v the_o innocent_a and_o let_v the_o guilty_a go_v free_a and_o so_o i_o be_o come_v to_o the_o second_o thing_n considerable_a the_o which_o be_v who_o it_o be_v that_o god_n will_v have_v will_v large_o prove_v who_o so_o doubt_v of_o it_o let_v he_o peruse_v the_o scripture_n in_o the_o margin_n and_o thus_o god_n will_v have_v mercy_n on_o who_o he_o will_v have_v mercy_n and_o so_o i_o pass_v to_o the_o next_o verse_n but_o by_o the_o way_n take_v notice_n that_o the_o house_n of_o israel_n be_v the_o people_n of_o who_o and_o to_o who_o the_o apostle_n speak_v and_o say_v he_o will_v have_v mercy_n on_o who_o he_o will_v have_v mercy_n that_o be_v although_o moses_n do_v intercede_v for_o israel_n and_o desire_v the_o lord_n to_o remember_v that_o they_o be_v the_o seed_n of_o abraham_n isaac_n and_o jacob_n yet_o for_o all_o this_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o bear_v with_o they_o in_o their_o sin_n but_o say_v as_o it_o be_v on_o this_o wise_a what_o although_o they_o be_v the_o seed_n of_o abraham_n yet_o that_o enjoin_v i_o not_o to_o bear_v with_o they_o in_o their_o sin_n for_o i_o will_v have_v mercy_n on_o who_o i_o will_v have_v mercy_n and_o therefore_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n to_o obtain_v evangelical_n blessing_n or_o otherwise_o destroy_v what_o he_o do_v visible_o build_v for_o he_o do_v press_v man_n to_o run_v and_o tell_v they_o that_o in_o so_o do_v they_o may_v attain_v as_o you_o may_v see_v in_o these_o word_n 1_o cor._n 9.24_o they_o that_o run_v in_o a_o race_n run_v all_o but_o one_o receive_v the_o prize_n sorun_v consider_v first_o that_o when_o the_o apostle_n say_v it_o be_v not_o of_o he_o that_o will_v or_o of_o he_o that_o run_v he_o mean_v of_o such_o as_o run_v in_o a_o wrong_a way_n and_o when_o he_o say_v so_o run_v that_o you_o may_v obtain_v he_o mean_v such_o as_o run_v in_o the_o right_a way_n for_o illustration_n admit_v of_o this_o comparison_n suppose_v two_o man_n have_v a_o great_a journey_n to_o go_v in_o a_o day_n that_o they_o intend_v to_o accomplish_v by_o night_n they_o both_o set_v forth_o in_o the_o morning_n intheir_o journey_n the_o one_o keep_v his_o strait_a road_n that_o lead_v to_o his_o journey_n end_v in_o the_o which_o way_n he_o hasten_v and_o come_v to_o the_o end_n at_o even_o the_o other_o peradventure_o go_v as_o fast_o as_o he_o but_o he_o go_v the_o contrary_a way_n that_o the_o further_o he_o go_v the_o further_o he_o have_v to_o his_o journey_n end_v now_o the_o one_o through_o willing_a and_o run_v in_o the_o right_a way_n attain_v his_o journey_n end_v the_o other_o although_o he_o will_v and_o run_v yet_o it_o be_v the_o clear_a contrary_a way_n be_v the_o further_a from_o his_o journey_n end_v so_o that_o it_o be_v not_o in_o his_o run_v to_o obtain_v his_o journey_n end_v because_o he_o be_v in_o a_o wrong_a way_n this_o be_v the_o very_a case_n in_o this_o verse_n it_o be_v not_o of_o he_o that_o do_v will_n or_o run_v by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n to_o attain_v heaven_n but_o to_o run_v in_o the_o way_n of_o faith_n and_o evangelical_n obedience_n the_o end_n whereof_o be_v everlasting_a life_n and_o now_o i_o shall_v give_v you_o the_o sum_n of_o it_o in_o short_a that_o be_v whereas_o it_o say_v it_o be_v not_o of_o he_o that_o will_v or_o of_o he_o that_o run_v the_o meaning_n be_v that_o all_o the_o strive_v and_o run_v of_o israel_n according_a to_o the_o law_n will_v not_o help_v they_o in_o point_n of_o justification_n it_o be_v only_a faith_n through_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o the_o gospel_n that_o justifi_v and_o that_o this_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o the_o text_n the_o apostle_n full_o clear_v in_o these_o word_n vers_fw-la 31._o but_o israel_n which_o follow_v after_o the_o law_n of_o righteousness_n have_v not_o attain_v to_o the_o law_n of_o righteousness_n wherefore_o because_o they_o seek_v it_o not_o by_o faith_n but_o as_o it_o be_v by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n so_o then_o it_o be_v plain_a why_o it_o be_v not_o of_o or_o in_o he_o that_o will_v or_o run_v because_o they_o do_v not_o run_v in_o a_o right_a way_n they_o seek_v it_o not_o by_o faith_n but_o by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n and_o so_o i_o pass_v to_o the_o next_o which_o be_v verse_n 17_o for_o the_o scripture_n say_v unto_o pharaoh_n even_o for_o this_o same_o purpose_n have_v i_o raise_v thou_o up_o that_o i_o may_v show_v my_o power_n in_o thou_o &_o that_o my_o name_n may_v be_v declare_v throughout_o all_o the_o earth_n annot._n from_o this_o verse_n we_o may_v take_v notice_n that_o the_o lord_n bring_v pharaoh_n as_o a_o precedent_n of_o his_o power_n and_o justice_n his_o power_n in_o that_o he_o can_v top_v the_o tall_a cedar_n that_o be_v he_o can_v bring_v down_o the_o haughty_a and_o lay_v they_o low_o second_o his_o justice_n that_o all_o the_o world_n may_v take_v notice_n that_o there_o shall_v none_o exalt_v themselves_o against_o he_o and_o prosper_v but_o now_o to_o the_o exposition_n of_o the_o verse_n in_o its_o
sinner_n to_o hardness_n of_o heart_n although_o they_o be_v the_o child_n of_o a_o father_n belove_v of_o god_n and_o also_o if_o daniel_n noah_n and_o job_n shall_v entreat_v for_o they_o as_o objection_n lie_v in_o these_o word_n why_o do_v he_o yet_o find_v fault_n for_o who_o have_v resist_v his_o will_n as_o if_o the_o apostle_n shall_v have_v say_v peradventure_o you_o house_n of_o israel_n may_v say_v to_o the_o lord_n for_o what_o cause_n do_v thou_o find_v fault_n with_o we_o who_o of_o we_o have_v resist_v thy_o will_n why_o will_v thou_o or_o for_o what_o cause_n will_v therefore_o in_o what_o instant_n i_o speak_v of_o a_o nation_n or_o kingdom_n to_o build_v and_o to_o plant_v if_o they_o do_v evil_a in_o my_o sight_n i_o will_v repent_v of_o the_o good_a that_o even_o you_o o_o you_o house_n of_o israel_n you_o be_v mar_v in_o god_n hand_n he_o may_v disappoint_v you_o of_o that_o glory_n which_o he_o do_v intend_v to_o bestow_v upon_o you_o as_o you_o be_v a_o nation_n who_o once_o the_o lord_n love_v and_o call_v his_o peculiar_a people_n and_o yet_o may_v have_v mercy_n upon_o a_o small_a remnant_n of_o that_o lump_n or_o nation_n who_o do_v believe_v and_o be_v humble_a yield_v and_o penitent_a before_o the_o lord_n and_o thus_o the_o apostle_n clear_v up_o god_n justice_n and_o thus_o i_o pass_v to_o the_o next_o verse_n because_o those_o thing_n that_o may_v be_v offer_v as_o objection_n to_o some_o particular_n in_o this_o verse_n i_o have_v already_o answer_v in_o my_o precedent_a discourse_n in_o this_o treatise_n and_o also_o the_o necessity_n of_o my_o present_a occasion_n cause_v i_o to_o study_v brevity_n verse_n 22._o what_o if_o god_n willing_a to_o show_v his_o wrath_n and_o to_o make_v his_o power_n know_v endure_v with_o much_o long_a suffering_n the_o vessel_n of_o wrath_n fit_v to_o destruction_n annot._n in_o this_o verse_n we_o may_v understand_v the_o apostle_n show_v that_o god_n have_v be_v just_a if_o he_o have_v destroy_v the_o nation_n of_o the_o jew_n long_o before_o for_o their_o rebellion_n but_o for_o these_o two_o cause_n god_n do_v suffer_v long_o the_o first_o be_v because_o he_o will_v make_v his_o power_n and_o wrath_n appear_v the_o more_o severe_a towards_o that_o rebellious_a people_n for_o our_o admonition_n and_o forewarn_n unto_o we_o and_o second_o that_o he_o may_v make_v know_v his_o mercy_n in_o a_o more_o large_a manner_n and_o measure_n on_o that_o part_n of_o the_o house_n of_o israel_n who_o do_v believe_v and_o fear_v before_o the_o lord_n that_o they_o may_v say_v it_o be_v of_o his_o mercy_n that_o we_o be_v not_o consume_v obj._n but_o if_o it_o be_v object_v and_o say_v that_o the_o text_n say_v the_o vessel_n of_o wrath_n be_v fit_v to_o destruction_n answ_n to_o which_o i_o answer_v and_o say_v that_o as_o the_o receive_n and_o cherish_v of_o the_o gracious_a motion_n of_o god_n spirit_n it_o sit_v we_o or_o prepare_v we_o for_o glory_n even_o so_o the_o receive_n of_o the_o motion_n of_o sin_n and_o cherish_n of_o it_o fit_v we_o for_o destruction_n and_o thus_o one_o part_n of_o israel_n be_v fit_v for_o destruction_n by_o their_o receive_a sin_n and_o satan_n so_o as_o to_o be_v guide_v thereby_o and_o second_o so_o be_v the_o other_o part_n or_o remnant_n fit_v or_o prepare_v for_o glory_n through_o the_o receive_n the_o motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n and_o be_v guide_v thereby_o the_o which_o as_o it_o sit_v for_o glory_n so_o at_o last_o it_o bring_v we_o to_o glory_n and_o so_o i_o pass_v to_o the_o next_o verse_n which_o be_v as_o follow_v verse_n 23._o and_o that_o he_o may_v make_v know_v the_o riches_n of_o his_o glory_n on_o the_o vessel_n of_o mercy_n which_o he_o have_v before_o prepare_v unto_o glory_n annot._n i_o have_v open_v this_o verse_n before_o i_o shall_v pass_v it_o brief_o say_v that_o there_o be_v no_o soul_n that_o ever_o shall_v enjoy_v glory_n but_o such_o as_o be_v
