my_o soul_n consider_v excessive_a cast_v down_o may_v hinder_v thy_o soul_n from_o holy_a endeavour_n in_o suppress_v and_o mortify_v of_o sin_n it_o be_v the_o policy_n and_o subtlety_n of_o the_o devil_n to_o draw_v man_n to_o run_v into_o extreme_n sometime_o the_o devil_n draw_v man_n to_o possess_v they_o so_o with_o the_o reign_a power_n of_o sin_n as_o that_o they_o shall_v never_o so_o much_o as_o think_v of_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n and_o sometime_o to_o possess_v they_o so_o with_o the_o power_n of_o sin_n as_o not_o to_o be_v able_a so_o much_o as_o to_o look_v at_o the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n i_o may_v say_v to_o thou_o as_o god_n to_o joshua_n chap._n 7._o 10._o get_v thou_o up_o why_o lie_v thou_o on_o thy_o face_n it_o be_v fit_a joshua_n shall_v be_v cast_v down_o at_o the_o disaster_n but_o not_o be_v take_v off_o from_o pursue_v the_o enemy_n therefore_o reason_n and_o say_v o_o my_o soul_n it_o do_v not_o become_v thou_o to_o be_v cast_v down_o excessive_o water_n in_o the_o sea_n can_v quench_v his_o thirst_n this_o will_v render_v the_o sea_n to_o be_v but_o a_o empty_a thing_n so_o thou_o to_o be_v trouble_v and_o to_o be_v exceed_o and_o excessive_o cast_v down_o for_o sin_n and_o to_o think_v that_o the_o mercy_n in_o god_n and_o the_o merit_n of_o christ_n can_v comfort_v and_o bear_v up_o thy_o deject_a soul_n this_o do_v exceed_o disparage_v the_o mighty_a ocean_n sadeel_v of_o god_n mercy_n and_o christ_n merit_n for_o thou_o to_o think_v that_o thy_o sin_n do_v outvie_a mercy_n and_o outstrip_v free_a grace_n in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o law_n the_o mercy-seat_n do_v whole_o cover_v the_o ark_n where_o the_o law_n be_v keep_v to_o show_v that_o if_o a_o man_n do_v violate_v not_o only_o one_o command_n but_o every_o command_n of_o the_o law_n yet_o all_o that_o may_v be_v cover_v over_o with_o mercy_n and_o notwithstanding_o the_o violation_n of_o the_o law_n they_o have_v a_o mercy-seat_n to_o go_v to_o though_o we_o do_v violate_v all_o the_o law_n all_o the_o command_n of_o god_n yet_o this_o law_n be_v cover_v all_o over_o with_o mercy_n the_o mercy_n of_o god_n be_v far_o above_o thy_o dejection_n the_o red_a sea_n do_v drown_v pharaoh_n and_o all_o his_o host_n with_o as_o much_o ease_n as_o it_o can_v drown_v one_o man_n so_o can_v the_o red_a sea_n of_o christ_n blood_n drown_v every_o sin_n though_o they_o be_v mountain_n of_o transgression_n as_o well_o as_o the_o least_o sin_n in_o psal_n 25._o 11._o for_o thy_o name_n sake_n o_o lord_n pardon_v my_o iniquity_n for_o it_o be_v great_a it_o be_v a_o word_n in_o the_o hebrew_n emphatical_a we_o read_v it_o for_o it_o be_v great_a but_o it_o may_v be_v rèad_a though_o it_o be_v great_a for_o the_o sake_n of_o thy_o name_n o_o lord_n pardon_v thou_o my_o iniquity_n because_o they_o or_o although_o they_o be_v multiply_v or_o therefore_o thou_o will_v pardon_v they_o because_o they_o be_v great_a five_o reason_n thus_o with_o thy_o soul_n why_o will_v thou_o cast_v thyself_o down_o o_o my_o soul_n especial_o consider_v that_o the_o cast_v down_o of_o the_o soul_n do_v cast_v down_o
sense_n of_o sin_n i_o will_v not_o so_o caution_n treat_v on_o this_o doctrine_n as_o many_o libertine_n do_v to_o lay_v aside_o all_o manner_n of_o humiliation_n for_o sin_n because_o some_o man_n be_v cast_v down_o too_o much_o they_o will_v not_o be_v cast-down_a at_o all_o for_o sin_n use_v 1_o not_o to_o prosecute_v such_o a_o principle_n it_o be_v the_o way_n for_o to_o run_v into_o all_o manner_n of_o licentious_a liberty_n and_o to_o be_v all_o upon_o the_o extreme_n second_o labour_v to_o order_v the_o affection_n and_o passion_n of_o thy_o mind_n so_o that_o when_o soever_o you_o be_v humble_v and_o in_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n you_o take_v heed_n that_o you_o do_v not_o cast_v off_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n be_v sure_a that_o you_o have_v such_o a_o degree_n of_o humiliation_n for_o sin_n that_o it_o may_v make_v thou_o to_o lie_v at_o christ_n foot_n and_o no_o low_a christ_n will_v have_v you_o to_o be_v so_o humble_a as_o to_o lie_v at_o his_o foot_n in_o the_o sight_n and_o sense_n of_o sin_n but_o the_o devil_n will_v have_v you_o to_o be_v so_o low_a in_o your_o humiliation_n for_o sin_n as_o to_o lie_v in_o hell_n jesus_n christ_n will_v have_v thou_o to_o be_v sorrowful_a for_o sin_n that_o thou_o may_v recover_v out_o of_o sin_n but_o the_o devil_n will_v have_v thou_o to_o lie_v so_o low_a in_o thy_o humiliation_n for_o sin_n that_o thou_o may_v never_o recover_v o_o take_v heed_n of_o such_o a_o sinful_a sorrow_n for_o sin_n do_v not_o be_v humble_v so_o much_o as_o the_o devil_n and_o thy_o own_o evil_a heart_n will_v have_v thou_o and_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o three_o question_n sermon_n iii_o psal_n 42._o 11._o why_o be_v thou_o cast_v down_o o_o my_o soul_n and_o why_o be_v thou_o disquiet_v within_o i_o hope_v thou_o in_o god_n for_o i_o shall_v yet_o praise_v he_o the_o health_n of_o my_o countenance_n and_o my_o god_n question_n 4_o the_o four_o question_n in_o order_n to_o be_v consider_v be_v this_o that_o see_v that_o god_n general_a notion_n of_o sin_n cast_v they_o off_o and_o do_v not_o cast_v they_o down_o and_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o they_o do_v not_o see_v sin_n to_o become_v exceed_o sinful_a and_o they_o do_v not_o take_v notice_n of_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n the_o damn_v nature_n of_o sin_n according_a to_o that_o expression_n in_o jer._n 2._o 23._o how_o can_v thou_o say_v i_o be_o not_o pollute_v i_o have_v not_o go_v after_o baalim_fw-la see_v thy_o way_n in_o the_o valley_n 23._o know_v what_o thou_o have_v do_v thou_o be_v a_o swift_a dromedary_n traverse_v her_o way_n here_o the_o jew_n they_o be_v great_a in_o sin_n and_o do_v abound_v in_o wickedness_n yet_o they_o be_v ready_a to_o say_v that_o they_o be_v not_o sinful_a at_o least_o they_o do_v not_o know_v that_o they_o be_v so_o it_o be_v for_o want_v of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o their_o way_n &_o the_o sinfulness_n of_o their_o do_n that_o they_o be_v not_o cast_v down_o for_o sin_n shall_v a_o man_n meet_v a_o lion_n in_o the_o wilderness_n he_o will_v be_v afraid_a of_o that_o and_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o he_o know_v that_o the_o lion_n be_v hurtful_a but_o if_o a_o man_n see_v a_o lion_n paint_v on_o the_o wall_n he_o be_v not_o afraid_a of_o that_o because_o he_o know_v that_o can_v hurt_v he_o so_o when_o man_n shall_v look_v upon_o sin_n but_o not_o look_v upon_o it_o as_o a_o lion_n in_o the_o wilderness_n that_o will_v certain_o destroy_v bewail_v he_o if_o he_o avoid_v it_o not_o but_o to_o look_v upon_o sin_n as_o a_o lion_n paint_v on_o the_o wall_n that_o have_v no_o power_n to_o do_v they_o hurt_v they_o see_v sin_n but_o it_o be_v general_o and_o notional_o and_o not_o particular_o and_o experimental_o the_o second_o reason_n be_v this_o it_o arise_v from_o a_o principle_n of_o presumption_n of_o pardon_v grace_n and_o mercy_n when_o wicked_a man_n hear_v the_o thundering_n and_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n denounce_v against_o sin_n and_o sinner_n deliver_v by_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o awaken_v they_o from_o the_o sleep_n of_o sin_n and_o security_n when_o they_o hear_v of_o the_o severity_n of_o god_n justice_n and_o that_o he_o be_v a_o sin-revenging_a god_n and_o that_o he_o will_v by_o no_o mean_n clear_v the_o guilty_a but_o will_v render_v to_o every_o one_o according_a to_o his_o way_n and_o work_n now_o what_o do_v a_o wicked_a man_n do_v in_o this_o case_n do_v this_o awaken_v his_o conscience_n to_o see_v the_o evil_n of_o sin_n no_z but_o he_o do_v the_o quite_o contrary_a he_o then_o from_o a_o principle_n of_o presumption_n of_o pardon_v grace_n and_o mercy_n in_o god_n bless_v himself_o in_o his_o own_o way_n and_o he_o say_v i_o shall_v have_v peace_n though_o i_o walk_v after_o the_o imagination_n of_o soul_n btt_o i_o hope_v though_o i_o do_v commit_v sin_n yet_o i_o hope_v god_n will_v pardon_v sin_n and_o though_o i_o be_o sinful_a yet_o i_o know_v god_n be_v merciful_a and_o thus_o they_o do_v from_o a_o principle_n of_o presumption_n go_v on_o in_o a_o way_n of_o sin_n without_o any_o trouble_n for_o it_o or_o cast_v down_o under_o the_o sight_n and_o sense_n of_o sin_n at_o all_o but_o than_o three_o the_o three_o reason_n why_o wicked_a man_n be_v not_o cast_v down_o for_o sin_n at_o all_o it_o arise_v from_o that_o obdurateness_n from_o that_o hardness_n that_o be_v in_o their_o heart_n and_o from_o that_o searedness_n in_o their_o conscience_n there_o be_v a_o generation_n of_o man_n that_o it_o may_v be_v say_v of_o they_o as_o concern_v sin_n they_o be_v past_a feeling_n according_a to_o that_o expression_n of_o the_o apostle_n eph._n 4._o 19_o who_o be_v past_a feeling_n have_v give_v themselves_o over_o unto_o lasciviousness_n 19_o to_o work_v all_o uncleanness_n
