that_o we_o be_v to_o consider_v first_o the_o wage_n of_o sin_n be_v death_n say_v the_o apostle_n of_o sin_n that_o be_v of_o the_o depravation_n and_o corruption_n of_o our_o nature_n and_o so_o consequent_o of_o every_o sin_n that_o be_v not_o only_a itself_o sin_n but_o the_o matter_n and_o mother_n of_o all_o sin_n when_o sin_n have_v conceive_v it_o bring_v forth_o death_n when_o sin_n be_v put_v forth_o whereby_o he_o signify_v the_o general_a depravation_n and_o corruption_n of_o our_o nature_n from_o whence_o all_o sin_n flow_v so_o it_o be_v here_o the_o wage_n the_o word_n in_o the_o original_n signify_v proper_o victual_n because_o victual_n be_v that_o that_o the_o roman_a emperor_n word_n give_v their_o soldier_n as_o wage_n in_o recompense_n of_o their_o service_n but_o and_o riddance_n of_o the_o relic_n of_o sin_n from_o which_o they_o be_v not_o free_v in_o this_o life_n but_o when_o they_o die_v 2._o than_o all_o sin_n be_v take_v away_o for_o as_o at_o the_o first_o sin_n bring_v death_n into_o the_o world_n so_o to_o the_o faithful_a now_o death_n carry_v it_o out_o again_o three_o their_o entrance_n into_o heaven_n and_o to_o be_v at_o home_n with_o christ_n yet_o we_o be_v still_o in_o that_o estate_n wherein_o it_o be_v appoint_v to_o all_o man_n once_o to_o die_v thus_o even_o temporal_a death_n be_v leave_v to_o the_o child_n of_o god_n to_o be_v undergo_v before_o they_o come_v to_o heaven_n it_o be_v leave_v to_o they_o i_o say_v and_o that_o just_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o remnant_n of_o sin_n yet_o they_o undergo_v it_o no_o other_o way_n but_o for_o their_o own_o good_a and_o benefit_n how_o ever_o temporal_a death_n in_o its_o own_o nature_n to_o a_o unbeliever_n be_v the_o wage_n of_o sin_n and_o as_o temporal_a so_o eternal_a death_n for_o when_o god_n tell_v man_n that_o in_o the_o day_n he_o sin_v he_o shall_v die_v the_o death_n he_o mean_v not_o death_n only_o temporal_a but_o eternal_a death_n he_o mean_v that_o principal_o as_o i_o show_v before_o in_o that_o the_o apostle_n oppose_v it_o to_o eternal_a life_n in_o the_o next_o clause_n of_o the_o sentence_n now_o christ_n have_v free_v all_o believer_n actual_o from_o eternal_a death_n but_o how_o eternal_a death_n shall_v be_v the_o wage_n of_o sin_n may_v be_v doubt_v because_o between_o the_o work_n and_o the_o the_o wage_n there_o must_v be_v some_o proportion_n that_o seem_v not_o to_o be_v between_o sin_n and_o eternal_a death_n for_o sin_n be_v a_o finite_a a_o temporal_a thing_n commit_v in_o a_o short_a time_n and_o that_o death_n be_v eternal_a now_o to_o punish_v a_o temporal_a fault_n with_o a_o eternal_a punishment_n it_o seem_v that_o it_o be_v to_o make_v the_o punishment_n to_o exceed_v the_o fault_n and_o that_o be_v against_o justice_n but_o for_o answer_v to_o this_o doubt_n we_o must_v know_v that_o however_o sin_v consider_v in_o the_o act_n and_o as_o it_o be_v a_o transcient_a action_n it_o be_v finite_a way_n yet_o in_o other_o respect_v it_o be_v infinite_a and_o that_o in_o a_o threefold_a consideration_n first_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o object_n against_o who_o it_o be_v commit_v object_n for_o be_v the_o offence_n of_o a_o infinite_a majesty_n it_o deserve_v a_o infinite_a punishment_n for_o we_o know_v offence_n be_v reckon_v of_o for_o their_o greatness_n according_a as_o the_o greatness_n of_o the_o person_n be_v against_o who_o they_o be_v commit_v if_o he_o that_o clip_v the_o king_n coin_n or_o deface_v the_o king_n arm_n or_o counterfeit_v the_o broad_a seal_n of_o england_n or_o the_o prince_n privy_a seal_n aught_o to_o die_v as_o a_o traitor_n because_o this_o disgrace_n tend_v to_o the_o person_n of_o the_o prince_n much_o more_o ought_v he_o that_o violate_v the_o law_n of_o god_n die_v the_o first_o and_o second_o death_n too_o because_o it_o tend_v to_o the_o deface_v of_o the_o image_n and_o the_o disgrace_n of_o the_o person_n of_o god_n line_n of_o life_n never_o to_o give_v over_o sin_v but_o he_o will_v run_v on_o infinite_o commit_v sin_n even_o with_o greediness_n and_o it_o be_v reason_n that_o as_o god_n accept_v the_o will_n for_o the_o deed_n in_o godliness_n so_o he_o shall_v punish_v the_o will_n for_o the_o deed_n in_o wickedness_n if_o we_o sin_v according_a to_o our_o eternity_n in_o our_o will_n and_o purpose_n to_o sin_n god_n will_v punish_v we_o according_a to_o his_o eternity_n it_o be_v just_a that_o they_o that_o will_v never_o be_v without_o sin_n if_o they_o may_v have_v their_o own_o will_n shall_v in_o we_o as_o appear_v by_o the_o temporal_a death_n even_o of_o the_o best_a saint_n of_o those_o that_o be_v most_o sanctify_a in_o this_o life_n it_o show_v there_o be_v remainder_n of_o corruption_n in_o they_o still_o for_o if_o there_o be_v not_o sin_n there_o will_v not_o be_v the_o wage_n of_o sin_n there_o will_v not_o be_v death_n if_o there_o be_v not_o sin_n second_o the_o use_n of_o it_o be_v to_o take_v away_o a_o fond_a popish_a distinction_n venial_a of_o mortal_a and_o venial_a sin_n they_o teach_v some_o sin_n to_o be_v venial_a that_o be_v such_o sin_n as_o in_o their_o own_o nature_n deserve_v not_o death_n whereas_o the_o apostle_n here_o speak_v of_o all_o sin_n in_o general_a he_o say_v the_o wage_n thereof_o be_v death_n
death_n the_o hurt_n of_o temporal_a death_n we_o have_v escape_v eternal_a death_n what_o be_v that_o a_o separation_n from_o the_o bless_a presence_n and_o glory_n of_o god_n destruction_n of_o body_n and_o soul_n for_o ever_o unutterable_a torment_n company_n with_o the_o devil_n and_o his_o angel_n and_o the_o rout_n of_o reprobate_n darkness_n black_a and_o thick_a than_o that_o of_o egypt_n weep_v and_o wail_v and_o gnash_v of_o tooth_n in_o the_o infernal_a lake_n that_o worm_n that_o never_o die_v and_o the_o fire_n that_o never_o go_v out_o this_o be_v the_o wage_n of_o all_o sin_n and_o that_o it_o be_v not_o render_v to_o all_o sin_n and_o to_o all_o sinner_n the_o cause_n be_v only_o this_o that_o the_o payment_n have_v be_v already_o exact_v of_o christ_n in_o the_o behalf_n of_o all_o true_a believer_n therefore_o in_o their_o own_o person_n they_o be_v discharge_v how_o infinite_o be_v we_o bind_v in_o thankfulness_n to_o he_o and_o how_o careful_a shall_v we_o
