per_fw-la accidens_fw-la as_o logician_n a_o object_n not_o out_o of_o its_o own_o nature_n affect_v that_o act_n or_o faculty_n in_o its_o self_n but_o by_o reason_n of_o some_o other_o thing_n to_o which_o it_o be_v annex_v or_o happen_v to_o be_v join_v so_o we_o may_v say_v we_o see_v socrates_n or_o plato_n when_o we_o see_v they_o not_o but_o their_o colour_n and_o that_o colour_n of_o they_o be_v the_o only_a thing_n by_o which_o they_o be_v discern_v by_o sight_n now_o there_o be_v mighty_a mistake_n in_o our_o sense_n concern_v these_o so_o when_o we_o see_v one_o man_n clothes_n wear_v by_o another_o we_o think_v he_o at_o the_o first_o to_o be_v the_o man_n who_o clothes_n he_o wear_v so_o when_o we_o see_v that_o man_n to_o have_v a_o red_a who_o have_v a_o pale_a face_n we_o think_v he_o not_o the_o same_o man_n my_o opinion_n of_o this_o mistake_n be_v because_o although_o the_o vision_n of_o the_o colour_n be_v a_o act_n of_o sight_n yet_o the_o apply_v that_o say_v that_o colour_n be_v not_o in_o the_o object_n for_o although_o sense_n perhaps_o can_v only_o discern_v the_o colour_n in_o the_o glass_n yet_o sense_n meddle_v not_o with_o that_o question_n whether_o the_o same_o colour_n can_v be_v in_o two_o subject_n much_o less_o whether_o this_o be_v a_o real_a colour_n in_o the_o glass_n or_o whether_o a_o intentional_a or_o whether_o it_o be_v in_o the_o glass_n or_o not_o but_o if_o it_o do_v meddle_v with_o this_o last_o yet_o in_o that_o speech_n which_o say_v it_o be_v in_o the_o glass_n sense_n meddle_v beyond_o its_o sphere_n it_o judge_v in_o a_o cause_n which_o belong_v not_o to_o its_o judicature_n that_o may_v be_v dispute_v by_o reason_n between_o he_o and_o i_o and_o sense_n may_v give_v in_o evidence_n concern_v what_o it_o know_v circumstantial_o conduce_v to_o the_o truth_n but_o can_v judge_v of_o it_o it_o be_v not_o its_o proper_a object_n so_o then_o to_o say_v sense_n see_v it_o in_o a_o glass_n therefore_o there_o be_v no_o colour_n in_o the_o object_n be_v vain_a to_o reason_n which_o can_v discern_v that_o every_o accident_n follow_v its_o subject_n remove_v the_o glass_n from_o the_o
power_n invisible_a feign_v by_o the_o mind_n or_o imagine_v from_o tale_n public_o allow_v but_o it_o be_v the_o worship_n due_a to_o god_n and_o this_o worship_n be_v when_o it_o be_v as_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v accompanied_z and_o attend_v with_o reverential_a fear_n and_o awe_n of_o that_o infinite_a excellency_n and_o this_o make_v we_o devote_v ourselves_o in_o all_o holy_a way_n to_o his_o service_n but_o if_o these_o thing_n we_o fear_v be_v less_o than_o god_n although_o we_o may_v devote_v ourselves_o or_o any_o thing_n be_v we_o to_o they_o it_o be_v not_o religion_n nor_o in_o any_o way_n do_v it_o introduce_v religion_n so_o that_o if_o the_o thing_n we_o fear_v have_v in_o it_o the_o estimation_n of_o divine_a excellency_n devotion_n to_o it_o be_v a_o act_n of_o religion_n not_o a_o seed_n if_o it_o have_v not_o that_o estimation_n it_o be_v a_o act_n of_o some_o reverence_n or_o other_o habit_n but_o no_o way_n a_o seed_n of_o religion_n for_o a_o seed_n precede_v the_o fruit_n and_o introduce_v it_o which_o this_o do_v not_o sect._n 5._o his_o four_o and_o last_o seed_n be_v take_v thing_n casual_a for_o prognostiques_n in_o all_o these_o religion_n worship_v they_o because_o of_o their_o oraculous_a sentence_n but_o because_o of_o their_o belief_n that_o these_o be_v god_n they_o be_v confident_a that_o they_o speak_v truth_n and_o so_o expound_v they_o according_a to_o the_o event_n whatsoever_o it_o be_v saviour_n for_o the_o sibyl_n i_o may_v say_v the_o like_a if_o they_o be_v such_o as_o the_o other_o and_o although_o he_o imagine_v these_o but_o feign_v who_o copy_n we_o have_v yet_o that_o there_o be_v such_o be_v evident_a in_o story_n and_o that_o they_o prophesy_v such_o thing_n as_o can_v be_v apply_v to_o none_o phrase_n as_o he_o be_v it_o to_o be_v understand_v of_o the_o great_a sort_n and_o number_n of_o man_n not_o of_o all_o sect._n 3_o then_o let_v we_o consider_v that_o phrase_n nature_n have_v make_v man_n what_o shall_v we_o understand_v by_o nature_n make_v natura_fw-la naturans_fw-la the_o god_n of_o nature_n who_o at_o the_o first_o make_v man_n then_o we_o must_v affirm_v this_o of_o adam_n and_o evah_n which_o be_v make_v without_o question_n in_o no_o state_n of_o enmity_n nor_o in_o a_o absolute_a equality_n but_o such_o a_o difference_n as_o be_v necessary_a for_o two_o friend_n experience_n be_v memory_n of_o many_o thing_n chap._n 8._o pag._n 34._o he_o say_v prudence_n depend_v upon_o experience_n now_o it_o be_v but_o experience_n these_o two_o be_v impossible_a to_o be_v true_a both_o for_o nothing_o do_v depend_v upon_o itself_o that_o which_o it_o depend_v upon_o must_v be_v distinct_a from_o what_o depend_v upon_o it_o now_o we_o may_v distinguish_v thâ—se_a three_o thus_o memory_n retain_v the_o action_n do_v and_o pass_v experience_n collect_v from_o thence_o the_o practice_n of_o man_n in_o such_o case_n but_o prudence_n according_a to_o both_o memory_n experience_n and_o the_o rule_n of_o right_a reason_n draw_v from_o all_o the_o guidance_n of_o history_n or_o natural_a reason_n or_o what_o else_o can_v supply_v any_o assistance_n to_o the_o intend_a end_n direct_v a_o man_n in_o his_o action_n and_o therefore_o he_o speak_v very_o weak_o of_o prudence_n when_o he_o say_v it_o be_v but_o experience_n and_o contrary_o there_o be_v a_o mighty_a difference_n in_o man_n prudence_n for_o prudence_n be_v a_o thing_n acquire_v by_o industry_n and_o pain_n in_o which_o as_o man_n differ_v in_o the_o industry_n so_o they_o do_v in_o prudence_n yea_o all_o man_n have_v not_o the_o like_a advantage_n of_o converse_v with_o able_a man_n and_o book_n which_o be_v great_a help_n for_o the_o get_a prudence_n though_o they_o may_v have_v the_o same_o industry_n sect._n 5._o pag._n 61._o he_o say_v that_o that_o which_o may_v make_v such_o equality_n that_o be_v of_o prudence_n concern_v which_o he_o have_v speak_v before_o incredible_a be_v but_o a_o vain_a conceit_n of_o our_o own_o wisdom_n etc._n etc._n for_o such_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o man_n that_o howsoever_o they_o may_v acknowledge_v many_o other_o to_o be_v more_o witty_a or_o more_o eloquent_a or_o more_o learned_a yet_o they_o will_v hardly_o believe_v there_o be_v many_o so_o wise_a as_o themselves_o for_o they_o see_v their_o own_o wit_n at_o hand_n argue_v and_o other_o at_o a_o distance_n this_o be_v a_o strange_a contradictory_n passage_n to_o its_o self_n for_o first_o consider_v that_o what_o be_v conceit_v by_o this_o to_o be_v oppose_v be_v the_o equality_n of_o prudence_n to_o oppose_v this_o he_o introduce_v man_n conceit_n of_o their_o own_o wisdom_n he_o that_o reflect_v upon_o his_o exposition_n of_o name_n in_o cap._n 5._o pag._n 22._o shall_v find_v prudence_n and_o wisdom_n two_o thing_n therefore_o a_o high_a esteem_n of_o a_o man_n own_o wisdom_n may_v be_v without_o the_o like_a imagination_n of_o his_o own_o prudence_n then_o consider_v that_o he_o say_v man_n will_v allow_v other_o more_o witty_a learned_a eloquent_a but_o not_o more_o wise_a he_o prove_v this_o because_o man_n see_v their_o own_o wit_n at_o hand_n mark_v how_o he_o say_v just_a before_o that_o they_o will_v allow_v other_o more_o wit_n but_o not_o more_o wisdom_n the_o reason_n say_v he_o because_o they_o see_v their_o wit_n at_o hand_n will_v not_o this_o if_o it_o prove_v any_o thing_n prove_v the_o contrary_a to_o what_o he_o use_v it_o that_o because_o their_o wit_n not_o their_o wisdom_n be_v discern_v at_o hand_n other_o at_o a_o distance_n therefore_o their_o wit_n must_v appear_v great_a though_o not_o their_o wisdom_n this_o manner_n of_o false_a reason_n unreasonable_a argue_v be_v frequent_a with_o he_o throughout_o the_o whole_a book_n sect._n 6._o but_o to_o the_o conclusion_n pretend_v this_o estimation_n of_o a_o man_n own_o eminence_n in_o prudence_n be_v least_o discern_v of_o any_o thing_n in_o that_o universality_n which_o he_o express_v for_o first_o if_o prudence_n as_o he_o just_a before_o define_v it_o be_v but_o experience_n it_o be_v impossible_a that_o young_a man_n shall_v think_v they_o have_v as_o much_o experience_n as_o old_a then_o if_o prudence_n be_v as_o it_o be_v the_o guide_n of_o a_o man_n action_n to_o their_o design_a end_n then_o consider_v that_o there_o be_v none_o but_o fool_n who_o do_v not_o take_v advice_n of_o man_n more_o excellent_a in_o their_o several_a way_n than_o themselves_o do_v not_o man_n that_o will_v get_v health_n advise_v with_o physician_n for_o the_o settle_v their_o estate_n advise_v with_o lawyer_n for_o the_o manage_n of_o a_o business_n at_o court_n or_o country_n advise_v with_o other_o more_o prudent_a in_o these_o practice_n in_o this_o particular_a business_n although_o i_o be_o confident_a i_o speak_v more_o rational_o than_o he_o or_o perhaps_o then_o some_o other_o will_v do_v with_o who_o i_o consult_v yet_o i_o advise_v with_o those_o less_o scient_a but_o i_o think_v more_o prudent_a than_o myself_o whether_o it_o be_v discretion_n to_o publish_v this_o or_o not_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o this_o but_o that_o i_o and_o all_o other_o do_v acknowledge_v ourselves_o to_o be_v less_o prudent_a though_o we_o find_v ourselves_o more_o learned_a than_o some_o other_o well_o then_o that_o
