the_o form_n of_o word_n wherein_o it_o be_v express_v it_o seem_v to_o signify_v no_o less_o than_o assent_n to_o and_o approbation_n of_o the_o whole_a and_o of_o every_o thing_n contain_v and_o prescribe_v in_o and_o by_o the_o book_n of_o common-prayer_n etc._n etc._n so_o that_o no_o man_n can_v make_v this_o declaration_n that_o be_v not_o satisfy_v of_o the_o truth_n of_o every_o thing_n contain_v and_o the_o lawfulness_n and_o allowableness_n of_o every_o thing_n prescribe_v in_o the_o say_a book_n nothing_o be_v more_o evident_a to_o i_o than_o that_o i_o ought_v not_o to_o dissemble_v or_o lie_v in_o matter_n of_o religion_n but_o so_o i_o do_v if_o i_o declare_v my_o unfeigned_a assent_n and_o consent_n to_o those_o thing_n contain_v and_o prescribe_v in_o the_o liturgy_n from_o which_o i_o real_o dissent_v but_o this_o meaning_n thereof_o be_v not_o acknowledge_v by_o many_o and_o very_o judicious_a person_n among_o the_o conformist_n they_o grant_v indeed_o general_o receive_v that_o significant_a ceremony_n in_o take_v a_o oath_n may_v lawful_o be_v use_v and_o that_o not_o only_o such_o as_o natural_o signify_v as_o lift_v up_o the_o hand_n towards_o heaven_n but_o such_o also_o as_o signify_v by_o institution_n as_o lay_v the_o hand_n on_o a_o book_n or_o kiss_v the_o book_n now_o though_o the_o end_n of_o a_o oath_n may_v be_v a_o civil_a thing_n as_o the_o end_n of_o a_o controversy_n yet_o the_o formale_a of_o it_o be_v divine_a worship_n and_o the_o aforesaid_a ceremony_n be_v expressive_a of_o the_o very_a external_a part_n of_o it_o and_o they_o actual_o signify_v by_o force_n of_o institution_n word_n signify_v by_o general_a custom_n and_o have_v the_o same_o sense_n out_o of_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n as_o in_o it_o and_o therefore_o the_o argue_v from_o their_o lawfulness_n as_o sign_n of_o worship_n unto_o the_o lawfulness_n of_o institute_v sign_n seem_v liable_a to_o exception_n nevertheless_o it_o may_v be_v say_v that_o inisttuted_a sign_n soon_o become_v customary_a and_o as_o well_o understand_v as_o word_n the_o christian_n heretofore_o be_v among_o infidel_n may_v lawful_o have_v the_o figure_n of_o the_o cross_n somewhere_o visible_a about_o they_o to_o show_v that_o they_o be_v christian_n for_o the_o meaning_n be_v no_o more_o than_o if_o they_o have_v say_v we_o be_v christian_n but_o it_o may_v be_v reply_v this_o be_v no_o act_n of_o divine_a worship_n but_o a_o indicant_fw-la or_o speak_a sign_n towards_o man_n with_o acknowledgement_n of_o my_o own_o weakness_n i_o express_v my_o appâ—ehesions_n of_o this_o matter_n god_n have_v allow_v word_n for_o sign_n expressive_a of_o divine_a worship_n but_o i_o find_v not_o that_o he_o have_v allow_v word_n only_o and_o forbid_a gesture_n and_o action_n for_o such_o a_o end_n the_o dumb_a must_v express_v their_o internal_a worship_n by_o gesture_n and_o action_n or_o they_o can_v external_o worship_v god_n at_o all_o if_o sign_n of_o devotion_n that_o be_v of_o customary_a signification_n be_v lawful_a i_o see_v not_o why_o such_o as_o be_v of_o institute_v signifition_n shall_v be_v unlawful_a and_o especial_o when_o they_o become_v as_o customary_a as_o those_o that_o have_v be_v without_o institution_n and_o if_o institute_v sign_n of_o devotion_n in_o general_n be_v lawful_a i_o see_v not_o why_o sign_n of_o some_o special_a part_n of_o devotion_n or_o mystery_n in_o religion_n shall_v be_v unlawful_a i_o be_o more_o confident_a of_o the_o warrantableness_n of_o rite_n and_o ceremony_n of_o worship_n
