heat_n of_o the_o fire_n the_o fire_n of_o hell_n may_v make_v a_o wicked_a man_n aghast_a but_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n in_o a_o pardon_a man_n be_v like_o water_n from_o the_o cloud_n that_o be_v not_o force_v but_o do_v natural_o drop_v down_o char._n 4_o a_o four_o character_n he_o in_o who_o sin_n be_v pardon_v be_v a_o man_n in_o who_o be_v no_o guile_n psal_n 32._o some_o do_v take_v guile_n in_o a_o particular_a sense_n other_o extend_v it_o more_o large_o as_o a_o comprehensive_a word_n equivalent_a to_o sincerity_n he_o be_v a_o man_n in_o who_o spirit_n be_v no_o guile_n a_o upright_a man_n thus_o much_o for_o the_o use_n of_o trial_n i_o now_o come_v to_o answer_v the_o objection_n object_n 1_o the_o first_o objection_n i_o think_v i_o hear_v a_o doubt_a christian_a say_v woe_n and_o alas_o what_o state_n be_o i_o in_o i_o have_v misgive_a thought_n that_o god_n have_v not_o pardon_v my_o iniquity_n because_o i_o can_v find_v that_o i_o have_v a_o heart_n to_o mourn_v for_o my_o iniquity_n and_o be_v it_o imaginable_a that_o christ_n shall_v shed_v blood_n for_o those_o sin_n which_o i_o never_o shed_v a_o tear_n for_o i_o can_v mourn_v for_o outward_a small_a cross_n but_o i_o can_v mourn_v for_o great_a inward_a corruption_n this_o make_v i_o doubt_v whether_o ever_o god_n have_v pardon_v my_o sin_n i_o shall_v resolve_v this_o objection_n in_o these_o four_o particular_n answ_n 1_o first_o of_o all_o consider_v that_o all_o man_n have_v not_o a_o like_a natural_a tenderness_n and_o softness_n of_o disposition_n many_o be_v of_o soft_a disposition_n be_v natural_o incline_v to_o tear_n this_o be_v not_o grace_n but_o the_o ingenuousnesse_n and_o softness_n of_o nature_n all_o can_v sorrow_n a_o like_a there_o may_v be_v grace_n in_o a_o man_n if_o his_o disposition_n be_v hard_a and_o rugged_a yet_o he_o can_v shed_v tear_n as_o those_o that_o have_v a_o tender_a disposition_n answ_n 2_o second_o you_o that_o make_v this_o objection_n know_v this_o that_o there_o may_v be_v great_a sorrow_n for_o sin_n in_o the_o heart_n when_o there_o be_v no_o tear_n for_o sin_n flow_v from_o the_o eye_n tear_n from_o the_o eye_n do_v ease_n and_o lighten_v the_o mind_n there_o may_v be_v the_o great_a sorrow_n when_o it_o can_v have_v no_o vent_n from_o the_o eye_n answ_n 3_o three_o you_o that_o make_v this_o objection_n know_v you_o must_v distinguish_v of_o a_o twofold_a sorrow_n for_o sin_n first_o there_o be_v a_o judicious_a sorrow_n and_o second_o a_o sensitive_a sorrow_n first_o there_o be_v a_o judicious_a sorrow_n and_o this_o consist_v in_o a_o apprehension_n in_o the_o judgement_n that_o sin_n be_v the_o great_a evil_n in_o the_o world_n and_o most_o to_o be_v lament_v brand_a oppose_a and_o resist_v divine_v do_v place_n more_o strength_n &_o height_n of_o grace_n in_o have_v a_o indignation_n stir_v up_o in_o the_o understanding_n against_o sin_n touch_v the_o evil_a of_o sin_n this_o be_v more_o than_o to_o shed_v a_o few_o tear_n for_o sin_n now_o if_o thou_o have_v a_o judicious_a sorrow_n to_o apprehend_v sin_n to_o be_v a_o great_a evil_n though_o it_o have_v not_o vent_v at_o the_o eye_n yet_o this_o be_v godly_a sorrow_n for_o sin_n a_o man_n that_o have_v the_o toothache_n he_o will_v cry_v out_o and_o complain_v more_o and_o shed_v more_o tear_n happy_o for_o the_o exquisite_a pain_n of_o the_o toothache_n than_o he_o will_v do_v in_o the_o burn_a fever_n yet_o ask_v he_o which_o he_o have_v rather_o have_v he_o will_v tell_v you_o the_o toothache_n the_o reason_n be_v because_o the_o pestilential_a fever_n be_v more_o hazard_n ous_a to_o life_n so_o have_v you_o rather_o lose_v your_o child_n then_o lose_v the_o sense_n of_o god_n favour_n which_o have_v you_o rather_o have_v affliction_n in_o the_o world_n or_o willing_o commit_v sin_n against_o god_n the_o judgement_n of_o a_o man_n if_o he_o be_v a_o regenerate_a man_n tell_v he_o he_o have_v rather_o a_o thousand_o priest_n to_o judge_v that_o disease_n by_o levit._n 13._o the_o first_o symptom_n be_v when_o the_o hair_n be_v turn_v white_a in_o the_o sore_a divine_n accommodate_v that_o to_o a_o continuance_n in_o sin_n to_o old_a age_n that_o argue_v you_o be_v unclean_a leper_n another_o symptom_n be_v when_o there_o be_v raw_a flesh_n in_o the_o scab_n divine_n accommodate_v that_o unto_o a_o man_n be_v adventurous_a to_o sin_n against_o a_o raw_a a_o trouble_a and_o a_o wound_a conscience_n a_o three_o sign_n of_o the_o plague_n of_o leprosy_n be_v when_o after_o the_o sore_n be_v heal_v there_o instance_n that_o man_n may_v fall_v often_o into_o the_o same_o gross_a evil_n yet_o let_v these_o four_o consideration_n keep_v you_o from_o abuse_v this_o comfortable_a point_n ay_o but_o you_o will_v say_v if_o i_o do_v fall_v often_o into_o the_o same_o sin_n what_o may_v be_v to_o stay_v my_o heart_n up_o that_o i_o may_v be_v in_o a_o pardon_a estate_n for_o all_o this_o i_o say_v this_o to_o you_o though_o thou_o do_v fall_v often_o into_o the_o same_o sin_n yet_o if_o thy_o conscience_n bear_v thou_o witness_v thou_o do_v exercise_v the_o same_o grace_n often_o in_o opposition_n to_o the_o same_o sin_n thou_o may_v have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o comfort_n that_o thou_o be_v in_o a_o state_n of_o pardon_n the_o five_o case_n follow_v but_o whether_o may_v a_o godly_a man_n that_o be_v pardon_v pray_v for_o pardon_n of_o sin_n antinomian_o account_v this_o to_o be_v needless_a they_o account_v all_o prayer_n for_o pardon_n to_o be_v only_o in_o this_o sense_n to_o wit_n for_o a_o sense_n of_o pardon_n and_o a_o manifestation_n of_o pardon_n answ_n first_o though_o it_o be_v true_a that_o god_n do_v not_o call_v a_o man_n to_o pray_v for_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v perfect_o do_v so_o as_o never_o to_o be_v do_v again_o yet_o god_n do_v command_v we_o to_o pray_v for_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v but_o imperfect_o do_v i_o be_o not_o to_o pray_v to_o god_n to_o create_v the_o world_n it_o be_v perfect_o do_v i_o be_o not_o to_o pray_v for_o election_n it_o be_v so_o do_v as_o never_o to_o be_v do_v more_o i_o be_o not_o to_o pray_v for_o the_o incarnation_n of_o christ_n christ_n be_v come_v into_o the_o flesh_n but_o though_o i_o be_o not_o to_o pray_v for_o these_o thing_n that_o be_v so_o full_o and_o perfect_o do_v yet_o i_o be_o to_o pray_v for_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v imperfect_o do_v pardon_v of_o sin_n be_v a_o act_n of_o god_n that_o be_v still_o in_o do_v therefore_o the_o apostle_n refer_v pardon_n rom._n 3.24_o 25._o be_v justify_v
