therefore_o bow_v towards_o it_o upon_o that_o account_n to_o be_v culpable_a some_o may_v have_v only_o a_o mystical_a signification_n in_o it_o as_o be_v in_o the_o ancient_a usage_n of_o worship_v towards_o the_o east_n some_o may_v use_v it_o only_o for_o uniformity_n sake_n that_o see_v to_o bow_v to_o god_n in_o their_o entrance_n into_o the_o church_n and_o go_v out_o of_o it_o be_v fit_a as_o they_o suppose_v therefore_o it_o be_v also_o fit_a to_o direct_v it_o the_o same_o way_n but_o the_o expedience_n of_o this_o practice_n i_o leave_v undetermined_a §_o 19_o of_o the_o scandalous_a use_n of_o image_n it_o may_v be_v a_o stumbling-block_n to_o have_v such_o image_n as_o other_o among_o we_o give_v unlawful_a worship_n to_o as_o in_o popish_a country_n to_o have_v the_o image_n of_o a_o crucifix_n and_o the_o virgin_n mary_n and_o other_o saint_n and_o of_o angel_n yea_o i_o think_v it_o better_o not_o to_o have_v they_o at_o all_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o peril_n of_o idolatry_n to_o place_v such_o image_n in_o church_n be_v a_o public_a stumbling-blockâ—_a for_o it_o may_v be_v a_o temptation_n to_o some_o to_o worship_v they_o and_o to_o say_v the_o least_o they_o do_v more_o hurt_n than_o good_a the_o historical_a use_n of_o such_o image_n in_o divine_a worship_n as_o be_v wont_a to_o be_v worship_v that_o be_v to_o have_v they_o for_o object_n of_o remembrance_n and_o mean_n of_o exciting_a devotion_n be_v dangerous_a and_o more_o especial_o such_o a_o use_n of_o the_o image_n of_o the_o object_n then_o worship_v as_o a_o crucifix_n or_o other_o picture_n of_o christ_n because_o it_o tend_v to_o pollute_v the_o mind_n with_o idolatrous_a imagination_n or_o by_o preposs_v the_o mind_n to_o hinder_v the_o spiritual_a exercise_n thereof_o which_o be_v the_o ordinary_a effect_n of_o image_n any_o image_n of_o feign_a deity_n or_o of_o any_o power_n which_o be_v a_o temptation_n to_o any_o to_o believe_v in_o they_o and_o worship_v they_o be_v unlawful_a to_o set_v before_o our_o own_o or_o other_o eye_n the_o image_n of_o the_o old_a symbol_n of_o divine_a presence_n in_o the_o time_n of_o worship_n though_o as_o object_n only_o of_o remembrance_n and_o mean_n of_o exciting_a our_o affection_n to_o god_n be_v dangerous_a §_o 20._o of_o the_o mere_a appearance_n of_o
devise_v and_o choose_v that_o which_o be_v incongruous_a or_o less_o congruous_a much_o more_o in_o regard_n of_o man_n propensity_n to_o superstition_n and_o bold_a presumption_n about_o religious_a ordinance_n and_o de_fw-fr facto_fw-la we_o find_v that_o god_n have_v not_o so_o leave_v the_o matter_n but_o take_v care_n to_o appoint_v the_o worship_n which_o he_o expect_v from_o man_n in_o in_o reason_n to_o be_v a_o presume_v of_o our_o own_o against_o the_o divine_a wisdom_n either_o to_o change_v a_o ordinance_n which_o god_n have_v institute_v for_o another_o ordinance_n of_o our_o own_o devise_v of_o the_o same_o reason_n and_o to_o the_o same_o intent_n or_o to_o add_v to_o the_o divine_a ordinance_n by_o way_n of_o supplement_n humane_a ordinance_n of_o the_o same_o reason_n reason_n with_o those_o ordinance_n which_o god_n have_v institute_v to_o be_v observe_v by_o the_o universal_a church_n to_o the_o world_n end_n as_o to_o make_v a_o addition_n of_o another_o weekly_a day_n to_o the_o same_o holy_a intent_n for_o which_o the_o lord_n day_n be_v set_v apart_o to_o institute_v any_o ordinance_n that_o be_v of_o the_o same_o reason_n with_o the_o sacrament_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n in_o vain_a do_v some_o say_v that_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o man_n to_o make_v a_o sacrament_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o consequent_o no_o from_o the_o aptitude_n of_o the_o thing_n but_o from_o god_n institution_n but_o that_o which_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n be_v not_o bless_v to_o supernatural_a end_n yea_o that_o which_o be_v not_o sanctify_v of_o god_n thereunto_o be_v not_o so_o bless_v d._n though_o god_n can_v be_v oblige_v by_o a_o seal_n only_o of_o his_o own_o annex_v to_o his_o covenant_n yet_o it_o no_o place_n in_o no_o age_n be_v omit_v may_v be_v devise_v of_o man_n for_o the_o devise_v of_o such_o a_o ordinance_n suppose_v a_o defect_n in_o the_o divine_a ordinance_n of_o universal_a and_o coordinate_a with_o the_o divine_a ordinance_n and_o be_v in_o proper_a sense_n addition_n pretend_v or_o in_o themselves_o express_v the_o same_o nature_n reason_n end_n and_o use_v that_o the_o divine_a ordinance_n have_v and_o consequent_o import_v a_o insufficiency_n in_o they_o but_o there_o be_v such_o institution_n of_o man_n in_o subordination_n to_o the_o divine_a institution_n as_o serve_v for_o the_o more_o convenient_a modify_n and_o order_v of_o the_o same_o and_o they_o be_v not_o proper_a addition_n because_o they_o be_v not_o of_o the_o same_o nature_n and_o use_n and_o these_o be_v unlawful_a all_o such_o mode_n of_o a_o duty_n as_o be_v necessary_a in_o genere_fw-la and_o not_o determine_v in_o specie_fw-la as_o when_o there_o must_v be_v a_o practice_n one_o way_n
