than_o which_o we_o say_v there_o can_v be_v nothing_o whatever_o that_o be_v either_o more_o unreasonable_a or_o more_o impudent_a and_o base_a and_o have_v get_v her_o authority_n therefore_o in_o this_o manner_n not_o only_o or_o not_o so_o much_o by_o shuffle_n as_o by_o plain_a snatch_v it_o and_o be_v conscious_a to_o herself_o that_o it_o will_v be_v a_o very_a vain_a thing_n for_o she_o to_o suppose_v she_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o defend_v the_o say_a authority_n by_o any_o better_a argument_n than_o that_o very_a stratagem_n she_o make_v use_v of_o it_o to_o prove_v it_o she_o the_o nature_n of_o this_o new_a and_o peculiar_a policy_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n we_o may_v easy_o make_v a_o measure_n of_o her_o wisdom_n as_o well_o as_o of_o her_o truth_n for_o by_o this_o short_a state_n or_o account_n that_o we_o now_o have_v of_o these_o motive_n which_o do_v main_o induce_v the_o say_a church_n entire_o to_o lay_v aside_o the_o express_a letter_n and_o grammar_n of_o the_o scripture_n at_o least_o as_o to_o the_o certainty_n truth_n or_o infallibility_n of_o it_o we_o may_v easy_o have_v a_o view_n of_o several_a horrible_a absurdity_n contradiction_n and_o indeed_o impiety_n that_o she_o be_v by_o this_o mean_v force_v and_o necessitate_v to_o fall_v into_o of_o which_o we_o shall_v now_o mention_v a_o few_o particular_n for_o first_o as_o it_o be_v matter_n of_o fact_n which_o be_v the_o most_o infallible_a evidence_n in_o the_o world_n that_o all_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n do_v depend_v sole_o upon_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o say_a church_n so_o it_o be_v matter_n of_o fact_n equal_o that_o both_o the_o say_a doctrine_n and_o the_o say_a authority_n itself_o which_o uphold_v the_o say_a doctrine_n do_v depend_v upon_o the_o catholic_n sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n for_o the_o same_o reason_n therefore_o it_o be_v even_o from_o the_o strictness_n of_o the_o connexion_n and_o mutual_a dependence_n of_o these_o three_o one_o upon_o another_o that_o as_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n must_v necessary_o be_v all_o of_o they_o true_a and_o all_o of_o they_o divine_a if_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o say_a church_n be_v altogether_o true_a and_o altogether_o divine_a so_o also_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n must_v be_v unquestionable_o divine_a if_o the_o catholic_n sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n upon_o which_o it_o be_v alone_o build_v be_v absolute_o divine_a and_o free_a from_o all_o possibility_n of_o error_n and_o consequent_o then_o as_o the_o sure_a proof_n that_o we_o can_v possible_o have_v of_o the_o divinity_n of_o all_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o say_a church_n do_v lie_v in_o the_o proof_n the_o divine_a authority_n of_o the_o say_a church_n and_o in_o the_o sureness_n of_o it_o so_o the_o sure_a proof_n of_o this_o do_v lie_v in_o the_o proof_n of_o the_o catholic_n sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n viz._n in_o the_o proof_n that_o this_o catholic_n sense_n be_v both_o divine_a and_o infallible_a and_o free_a from_o all_o manner_n of_o error_n imaginable_a for_o it_o be_v this_o sense_n alone_o that_o give_v be_v to_o the_o say_a authority_n in_o as_o much_o then_o as_o it_o be_v strong_o allege_v that_o the_o catholic_n sense_n can_v possible_o but_o be_v divine_a infallible_a and_o free_a from_o all_o manner_n of_o error_n the_o authority_n of_o the_o say_a church_n therefore_o must_v necessary_o be_v divine_a infallible_a and_o free_a from_o all_o manner_n of_o error_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v impossible_a but_o the_o doctrine_n which_o be_v teach_v by_o the_o say_a church_n must_v be_v such_o also_o that_o be_v they_o must_v be_v divine_a infallible_a and_o free_a from_o all_o error_n so_o then_o these_o three_o be_v and_o must_v be_v all_o of_o they_o divine_a alike_o viz_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n and_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o say_a church_n and_o the_o catholic_n sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n and_o consequent_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o universal_a church_n must_v be_v as_o divine_a as_o any_o of_o these_o three_o because_o the_o catholic_n sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n and_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o universal_a church_n be_v but_o one_o and_o the_o same_o et_fw-la quae_fw-la in_o eodem_fw-la tertio_fw-la shall_v here_o show_v how_o this_o be_v by_o she_o clear_v to_o evidence_n then_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o catholic_n sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n how_o infallible_a and_o unquestionable_a it_o be_v and_o to_o manifest_v not_o only_o the_o necessity_n but_o the_o absoluteness_n of_o its_o divinity_n we_o need_v not_o much_o more_o than_o one_o reason_n because_o this_o do_v of_o itself_o upon_o the_o matter_n amount_v to_o a_o demonstration_n which_o be_v that_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o clear_a or_o more_o certain_a than_o that_o the_o say_a catholic_n since_o neither_o real_o be_v the_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n nor_o real_o be_v not_o nor_o any_o thing_n more_o certain_a than_o that_o the_o say_a catholic_n sense_n be_v both_o that_o be_v to_o say_v both_o it_o be_v and_o it_o be_v not_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n and_o that_o we_o may_v be_v yet_o the_o more_o full_o and_o distinct_o instruct_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o this_o mystery_n and_o of_o the_o strangeness_n of_o it_o we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o the_o extraordinary_a wonderful_a and_o peculiar_a power_n of_o this_o catholic_n sense_n lie_v in_o the_o singular_a relation_n which_o it_o to_o the_o universal_a church_n and_o to_o the_o scripture_n as_o it_o be_v the_o sense_n of_o neither_o of_o they_o proper_o and_o entire_o and_o yet_o be_v the_o sense_n of_o both_o of_o they_o at_o one_o and_o the_o same_o time_n for_o though_o this_o catholic_n sense_n can_v be_v have_v without_o the_o scripture_n and_o though_o it_o be_v and_o must_v necessary_o be_v give_v therefore_o to_o the_o say_a church_n by_o the_o scripture_n because_o it_o be_v the_o scripture_n only_o that_o the_o say_a church_n do_v always_o refer_v to_o when_o it_o do_v at_o any_o time_n cite_v or_o allege_v the_o say_a sense_n as_o it_o be_v divine_a and_o consequent_o though_o without_o the_o say_a scripture_n it_o have_v be_v whole_o impossible_a that_o the_o say_a church_n shall_v either_o have_v challenge_v or_o lay_v claim_n to_o any_o truth_n that_o have_v be_v authoritative_a or_o divine_a notwithstanding_o this_o the_o say_a catholic_n since_o both_o be_v give_v and_o must_v necessary_o be_v give_v to_o the_o scripture_n by_o the_o say_a church_n because_o without_o the_o say_a church_n it_o will_v be_v impossible_a that_o this_o sense_n shall_v ever_o be_v find_v out_o in_o the_o scripture_n itself_o in_o regard_n nothing_o be_v more_o certain_a than_o that_o the_o scripture_n have_v of_o itself_o proper_o no_o sense_n at_o all_o at_o lest_o none_o that_o be_v true_a certain_a and_o infallible_a but_o as_o this_o be_v by_o the_o universal_a church_n and_o by_o the_o prudent_a care_n and_o foresight_n of_o it_o bestow_v upon_o it_o and_o so_o we_o must_v unavoidable_o grant_v that_o though_o the_o catholic_n sense_n be_v but_o one_o yet_o this_o one_o sense_n be_v both_o create_v by_o the_o church_n for_o the_o scripture_n and_o create_v by_o the_o scripture_n for_o the_o church_n which_o be_v a_o very_a rare_a and_o unusual_a sort_n of_o production_n and_o therefore_o it_o will_v follow_v also_o that_o if_o we_o regard_v the_o truth_n certainty_n and_o infallibility_n of_o this_o catholic_n sense_n it_o be_v whole_o and_o entire_o from_o the_o church_n because_o neither_o the_o authority_n proper_o of_o it_o nor_o its_o divinity_n do_v consist_v in_o its_o truth_n or_o in_o its_o certainty_n if_o we_o regard_v the_o divinity_n and_o authority_n of_o this_o catholic_n sense_n it_o be_v not_o only_o original_o but_o entire_o from_o the_o scripture_n because_o it_o may_v be_v divine_a though_o it_o have_v neither_o certainty_n nor_o infallibility_n in_o it_o at_o least_o as_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n tell_v we_o and_o consequent_o the_o say_a catholic_n sense_n consider_v as_o it_o be_v strict_o in_o the_o scripture_n have_v indeed_o both_o authority_n absolute_o in_o it_o and_o divinity_n but_o it_o neither_o have_v truth_n certainty_n nor_o infallibility_n but_o consider_v as_o it_o be_v strict_o in_o the_o church_n it_o have_v both_o truth_n certainty_n and_o infallibility_n absolute_o in_o it_o but_o it_o have_v not_o for_o all_o this_o any_o thing_n of_o divinity_n or_o authority_n for_o this_o it_o must_v borrow_v from_o the_o name_n of_o the_o scripture_n so_o that_o it_o be_v plain_a that_o the_o say_a catholic_n sense_n be_v neither_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o church_n proper_o and_o entire_o nor_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n proper_o and_o entire_o and_o yet_o that_o it_o be_v the_o sense_n of_o both_o of_o they_o entire_o and_o the_o reason_n for_o this_o be_v also_o plain_a viz._n because_o according_a to_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n the_o divinity_n of_o the_o catholic_n sense_n be_v one_o thing_n its_o truth_n and_o infallibility_n be_v quite_o another_o for_o though_o the_o church_n can_v give_v to_o the_o catholic_n sense_n be_v truth_n and_o infallibility_n entire_o yet_o she_o can_v give_v any_o part_n of_o its_o divinity_n and_o though_o the_o scripture_n can_v give_v to_o the_o catholic_n sense_n be_v whole_a divinity_n and_o consequent_o its_o authority_n entire_o yet_o it_o can_v of_o itself_o give_v it_o any_o thing_n of_o truth_n or_o any_o thing_n of_o infallibility_n but_o this_o it_o must_v have_v from_o the_o church_n so_o mystical_o be_v this_o catholic_n sense_n part_v and_o divide_v between_o both_o by_o which_o partition_n of_o the_o catholic_n sense_n which_o be_v strange_a we_o come_v to_o know_v another_o thing_n also_o which_o be_v as_o strange_a and_o which_o otherwise_o we_o shall_v never_o have_v be_v able_a to_o have_v find_v out_o viz._n that_o though_o the_o end_n of_o give_v the_o scripture_n be_v unquestionable_o for_o the_o enlighten_v rule_v and_o govern_v the_o church_n yet_o the_o end_n of_o set_v up_o the_o church_n be_v equal_o also_o for_o the_o enlighten_v rule_v and_o govern_v of_o the_o scripture_n which_o as_o it_o be_v a_o consequence_n that_o can_v no_o way_n be_v avoid_v by_o the_o rule_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n so_o it_o be_v as_o manifest_o absurd_a as_o all_o the_o rest_n second_o the_o divinity_n of_o the_o catholic_n sense_n with_o the_o necessity_n absolute_o of_o it_o will_v appear_v also_o yet_o the_o more_o clear_o if_o we_o shall_v consider_v that_o unless_o we_o do_v admit_v the_o church_n in_o the_o first_o place_n to_o be_v holy_a infallible_a and_o free_a from_o all_o manner_n of_o error_n imaginable_a it_o will_v and_o must_v be_v impossible_a that_o the_o catholic_n sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n shall_v be_v absolute_o true_a holy_a infallible_a and_o free_a from_o all_o error_n because_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n become_v thus_o catholic_n holy_a infallible_a and_o true_a only_o as_o it_o be_v the_o sense_n of_o the_o catholic_n church_n first_o and_o as_o it_o be_v by_o this_o mean_v derive_v to_o the_o scripture_n itself_o and_o for_o any_o to_o seek_v a_o sense_n in_o the_o scripture_n therefore_o that_o be_v holy_a true_a infallible_a and_o free_a from_o all_o error_n alone_o by_o the_o scripture_n itself_o without_o the_o direction_n and_o assistance_n of_o the_o say_a catholic_n or_o universal_a church_n be_v manifest_o absurd_a both_o because_o the_o scripture_n have_v proper_o of_o itself_o no_o sense_n at_o all_o that_o be_v certain_a and_o because_o it_o be_v the_o immediate_a authority_n of_o the_o church_n only_o upon_o which_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n so_o far_o as_o it_o be_v proper_o catholic_n infallible_a and_o absolute_o true_a be_v whole_o and_o entire_o build_v and_o yet_o on_o the_o contrary_a in_o regard_n it_o must_v be_v confess_v that_o the_o church_n can_v not_o possible_o have_v so_o much_o as_o either_o name_n or_o be_v be_v it_o not_o for_o the_o scripture_n itself_o and_o much_o less_o that_o it_o can_v have_v those_o privilege_n or_o that_o authority_n place_v in_o it_o which_o it_o challenge_v above_o all_o other_o for_o be_v holy_a true_a infallible_a and_o free_a from_o all_o manner_n of_o error_n unless_o we_o admit_v therefore_o the_o scripture_n in_o the_o first_o place_n to_o be_v original_o true_a holy_a and_o divine_a and_o therefore_o to_o contain_v all_o authority_n and_o truth_n prmitive_o in_o itself_o that_o be_v holy_a absolute_a and_o divine_a and_o that_o by_o reason_n of_o this_o its_o primitive_a sanctity_n divinity_n and_o truth_n it_o have_v a_o power_n simple_o and_o proper_o of_o its_o self_n to_o confer_v a_o divine_a right_n authority_n and_o infallibility_n to_o the_o church_n it_o will_v and_o must_v be_v impossible_a that_o the_o say_a church_n shall_v be_v any_o way_n impower_v or_o enable_v either_o to_o teach_v such_o doctrine_n as_o be_v certain_a true_a holy_a and_o divine_a and_o without_o any_o fallibility_n whatever_o or_o that_o it_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o declare_v what_o that_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n be_v which_o be_v absolute_o holy_a true_a infallible_a and_o free_a from_o all_o manner_n of_o error_n because_o if_o the_o whole_a be_v of_o the_o church_n be_v entire_o from_o the_o scripture_n than_o not_o only_o all_o the_o holiness_n truth_n and_o infallibility_n of_o the_o say_a church_n with_o the_o truth_n of_o whatever_o it_o teach_v but_o all_o the_o authority_n also_o which_o it_o have_v or_o challenge_v by_o reason_n of_o any_o of_o these_o extraordinary_a property_n be_v and_o must_v unavoidable_o be_v build_v upon_o the_o scripture_n also_o and_o upon_o the_o primitive_a truth_n authority_n and_o sanctity_n of_o it_o both_o which_o thing_n now_o be_v admit_v it_o must_v necessary_o follow_v that_o if_o we_o and_o authority_n be_v or_o can_v possible_o be_v in_o the_o church_n and_o consequent_o we_o must_v grant_v that_o these_o be_v both_o first_o and_o so_o both_o of_o they_o be_v one_o before_o another_o respective_o in_o like_a manner_n we_o must_v grant_v that_o as_o there_o be_v a_o absolute_a necessity_n that_o the_o church_n and_o its_o authority_n as_o infallible_a shall_v be_v build_v upon_o the_o scripture_n entire_o and_o upon_o the_o original_a authority_n of_o it_o so_o there_o be_v as_o great_a a_o necessity_n that_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n with_o the_o truth_n of_o it_o wherein_o its_o authority_n do_v proper_o and_o principal_o consist_v shall_v be_v build_v upon_o the_o church_n and_o upon_o the_o authority_n of_o it_o and_o therefore_o a_o necessity_n that_o both_o these_o shall_v be_v build_v each_o upon_o the_o other_o mutual_o and_o respective_o and_o therefore_o a_o necessity_n that_o the_o church_n shall_v be_v the_o foundation_n of_o all_o the_o scripture_n truth_n and_o that_o the_o scripture_n shall_v be_v the_o foundation_n of_o all_o the_o church_n its_o truth_n and_o therefore_o that_o each_o of_o these_o shall_v be_v the_o respective_a basis_n or_o ground_n of_o the_o other_o of_o these_o mutual_o the_o clearness_n consonancy_n coherence_n and_o manifest_a consistency_n of_o all_o which_o thing_n whoever_o do_v not_o understand_v and_o do_v not_o also_o full_o and_o unquestionable_o believe_v be_v neither_o a_o scholar_n that_o be_v quick_a enough_o nor_o a_o scholar_n that_o be_v qualify_v enough_o for_o the_o all_o these_o thing_n now_o mention_v be_v substantial_o true_a and_o capable_a to_o be_v clear_o understand_v by_o rational_a person_n and_o that_o they_o be_v consistent_a real_o one_o with_o another_o then_o it_o must_v be_v certain_a that_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v both_o a_o true_a church_n and_o its_o doctrine_n be_v all_o certain_o and_o unquestionable_o true_a and_o all_o its_o follower_n must_v be_v true_a christian_n also_o and_o free_a from_o all_o error_n for_o these_o thing_n must_v be_v all_o of_o they_o true_a and_o certain_a alike_o but_o if_o these_o several_a thing_n above_o mention_v be_v manifest_o contradictory_n and_o absurd_a and_o such_o therefore_o as_o be_v no_o way_n possible_a to_o be_v rational_o understand_v or_o capable_a to_o be_v consistent_a any_o way_n one_o with_o another_o then_o these_o thing_n can_v never_o be_v true_a viz._n either_o that_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n shall_v be_v a_o true_a church_n or_o that_o its_o doctrine_n shall_v be_v all_o of_o they_o true_a or_o that_o its_o follower_n shall_v be_v such_o true_a christian_n as_o to_o be_v free_a from_o all_o error_n see_v none_o of_o these_o three_o thing_n can_v be_v otherwise_o true_a or_o certain_a than_o as_o the_o several_a thing_n above_o mention_v be_v true_a or_o certain_a which_o be_v manifest_o absurd_a and_o utter_o false_a the_o horrible_a wickedness_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n further_o manifest_v the_o impiety_n and_o wickedness_n as_o well_o as_o absurdity_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n in_o this_o invention_n of_o the_o catholic_n sense_n and_o in_o her_o set_n up_o of_o it_o will_v be_v evident_a also_o to_o any_o that_o will_v consider_v that_o even_o while_o she_o go_v about_o not_o only_o to_o what_o the_o church_n only_o do_v give_v it_o and_o by_o deny_v therefore_o that_o the_o litteral_n or_o grammatical_a sense_n or_o construction_n of_o the_o scripture_n be_v in_o any_o place_n certain_a or_o at_o least_o not_o so_o certain_a as_o it_o may_v be_v say_v of_o its_o self_n to_o be_v simple_o absolute_o or_o infallible_o true_a or_o so_o certain_a that_o it_o be_v in_o any_o place_n sufficient_a to_o give_v a_o infallibility_n of_o truth_n to_o we_o she_o do_v no_o other_o than_o discover_v by_o all_o this_o what_o her_o drift_n be_v throughout_o all_o this_o device_n for_o she_o will_v never_o run_v herself_o upon_o so_o many_o rock_n to_o maintain_v thing_n so_o manifest_o gross_a and_o absurd_a as_o this_o invention_n put_v she_o upon_o be_v it_o not_o that_o her_o aim_n by_o all_o this_o be_v to_o spoil_v and_o deprive_v the_o scripture_n utter_o not_o only_a of_o all_o power_n and_o authority_n but_o of_o all_o right_n immediate_o and_o absolute_o of_o its_o self_n to_o bind_v and_o oblige_v the_o conscience_n of_o man_n to_o it_o even_o though_o the_o sense_n of_o it_o shall_v from_o the_o plain_a and_o genuine_a construction_n of_o its_o word_n appear_v never_o so_o strong_a clear_a or_o coherent_a to_o they_o which_o scope_n or_o design_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n for_o withdraw_v our_o obedience_n and_o subjection_n whole_o from_o the_o scripture_n itself_o even_o in_o thing_n that_o be_v plain_a and_o can_v be_v no_o way_n doubt_v by_o we_o as_o we_o be_v rational_a person_n and_o understand_v well_o enough_o what_o the_o nature_n and_o import_n of_o sense_n be_v i_o say_v this_o scope_n or_o design_n of_o withdraw_a our_o obedience_n from_o the_o scripture_n itself_o and_o from_o the_o plain_a and_o genuine_a fence_n of_o it_o be_v no_o other_o than_o open_o to_o withdraw_v we_o from_o the_o plain_a and_o express_a mind_n of_o god_n the_o scripture_n be_v his_o word_n which_o be_v not_o only_o to_o offer_v a_o injury_n to_o the_o authority_n and_o council_n of_o god_n but_o to_o his_o very_a grace_n also_o in_o give_v his_o word_n to_o we_o and_o yet_o that_o this_o be_v the_o chief_a and_o principal_a aim_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n in_o her_o contend_v for_o the_o catholic_n sense_n and_o in_o she_o disallow_v all_o other_o sense_n whatever_o to_o the_o scripture_n be_v the_o more_o clear_a because_o it_o be_v matter_n of_o fact_n that_o wheresoever_o she_o can_v or_o do_v exercise_v any_o dominion_n either_o by_o herself_o or_o by_o her_o delegate_n there_o she_o will_v suffer_v none_o even_o not_o of_o her_o own_o clergy_n to_o depend_v upon_o the_o scripture_n strict_o but_o will_v have_v all_o man_n at_o all_o time_n to_o submit_v all_o their_o judgement_n and_o all_o their_o conscience_n absolute_o to_o her_o particular_a determination_n in_o all_o thing_n relate_v to_o faith_n whether_o the_o thing_n she_o do_v determine_v be_v agreeable_a or_o not_o agreeable_a to_o the_o word_n or_o rule_n of_o faith_n itself_o and_o if_o all_o her_o own_o native_n be_v treat_v with_o this_o severity_n and_o arbitrariness_n by_o she_o be_v be_v easy_a then_o to_o imagine_v what_o stranger_n may_v expect_v from_o she_o especial_o if_o we_o consider_v that_o for_o the_o more_o effectual_a prevent_v the_o laity_n also_o to_o show_v any_o manner_n of_o duty_n immediate_o to_o the_o scripture_n and_o lest_o they_o shall_v be_v convince_v even_o by_o the_o very_a sight_n of_o it_o or_o shall_v hold_v themselves_o oblige_v to_o the_o thing_n plain_o and_o express_o command_v by_o it_o she_o do_v throughout_o all_o place_n where_o she_o have_v any_o power_n utter_o forbid_v all_o use_n of_o the_o scripture_n to_o they_o and_o will_v not_o suffer_v the_o scripture_n so_o much_o as_o to_o be_v read_v or_o hear_v by_o they_o in_o a_o vulgar_a or_o know_a tongue_n by_o which_o instance_n it_o may_v sufficient_o appear_v see_v these_o thing_n be_v matter_n of_o fact_n that_o the_o endeavour_n use_v by_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n to_o lessen_v the_o credit_n of_o the_o scripture_n letter_n grammar_n or_o word_n as_o if_o there_o be_v no_o certainty_n of_o sense_n in_o it_o be_v not_o real_o ground_v upon_o any_o thing_n which_o may_v just_o be_v attribute_v to_o the_o scripture_n itself_o *_o but_o be_v a_o thing_n absolute_o plot_v contrive_v form_v or_o purposely_o design_v by_o the_o say_a church_n for_o no_o other_o end_n but_o that_o man_n may_v not_o rely_v upon_o the_o scripture_n or_o trust_v to_o the_o truth_n of_o those_o thing_n that_o may_v be_v plain_o and_o express_o found_v in_o the_o very_a letter_n of_o it_o and_o so_o may_v be_v move_v to_o give_v obedience_n to_o the_o authority_n of_o it_o and_o to_o be_v lead_v by_o it_o nor_o for_o any_o other_o end_n but_o that_o man_n may_v not_o be_v able_a to_o plead_v the_o say_a word_n with_o the_o expressness_n of_o it_o against_o she_o or_o have_v a_o
nature_n of_o her_o policy_n for_o the_o acquire_n of_o that_o arbitrary_a absolute_a and_o unlimited_a power_n which_o she_o exercise_v and_o first_o we_o find_v that_o she_o do_v upon_o she_o own_o authority_n affirm_v that_o it_o be_v neither_o the_o letter_n of_o the_o scripture_n nor_o the_o grammar_n of_o it_o how_o plain_a clear_a or_o express_v soever_o it_o be_v that_o do_v or_o aught_o to_o bind_v the_o conscience_n of_o man_n but_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o say_a scripture_n only_o and_o second_o she_o do_v affirm_v that_o it_o be_v not_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n also_o which_o do_v or_o can_v any_o way_n direct_o bind_v the_o conscience_n of_o man_n if_o this_o sense_n be_v consider_v naked_o in_o itself_o either_o as_o literal_a or_o mystical_a but_o that_o the_o say_a sense_n be_v capable_a of_o bind_v only_o consider_v as_o it_o be_v catholic_n and_o three_o that_o it_o be_v not_o either_o in_o the_o letter_n or_o in_o the_o grammar_n of_o the_o say_a scripture_n how_o clear_a or_o plain_a soever_o it_o be_v that_o the_o divine_a authority_n of_o it_o be_v place_v but_o simple_o and_o only_o in_o the_o sense_n of_o it_o as_o this_o sense_n be_v the_o sense_n of_o the_o universal_a church_n and_o therefore_o that_o sense_n which_o be_v proper_o call_v catholic_n which_o proposition_n she_o have_v in_o her_o prudence_n thus_o peculiar_o lay_v down_o as_o the_o ground_n or_o foundation_n not_o only_o of_o all_o christian_a faith_n but_o of_o all_o christian_a verity_n and_o truth_n itself_o in_o the_o next_o place_n she_o build_v upon_o these_o unsound_a ground_n a_o assumption_n that_o be_v parallel_n to_o they_o and_o that_o be_v every_o way_n as_o entire_o her_o own_o as_o the_o former_a viz._n that_o she_o alone_o have_v not_o only_o the_o right_n as_o exclusive_a to_o all_o other_o of_o dispence_v this_o catholic_n sense_n to_o all_o the_o member_n of_o the_o christian_a church_n but_o of_o dispence_v it_o in_o order_n to_o their_o salvation_n and_o have_v inherent_a in_o she_o the_o full_a and_o absolute_a power_n final_o and_o inappealeable_o to_o determine_v at_o all_o time_n and_o upon_o all_o occasion_n what_o the_o say_a catholic_n sense_n be_v concern_v all_o point_n whatever_o that_o may_v be_v controvert_v and_o concern_v all_o place_n of_o scripture_n whatever_o that_o may_v be_v doubt_v of_o or_o dispute_v and_o that_o as_o this_o power_n be_v absolute_o necessary_a for_o the_o preservation_n of_o the_o unity_n so_o for_o the_o preservation_n of_o the_o purity_n of_o the_o say_v christian_a faith_n in_o regard_v it_o be_v impossible_a that_o such_o a_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n as_o be_v whole_o universal_a and_o catholic_n shall_v at_o any_o time_n err._n the_o conclusion_n then_o if_o all_o these_o premise_n be_v true_a be_v that_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v to_o be_v believe_v and_o that_o all_o her_o determination_n whatever_o they_o be_v be_v for_o conscience_n sake_n to_o be_v obey_v and_o submit_v unto_o even_o by_o the_o whole_a christian_a church_n without_o any_o dispute_n or_o without_o so_o much_o as_o any_o scruple_n of_o mind_n this_o conclusion_n be_v that_o which_o all_o the_o partisan_n and_o champion_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n do_v labour_n with_o may_v and_o main_a to_o bring_v every_o man_n to_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v the_o same_o with_o that_o security_n and_o rest_n which_o they_o pretend_v all_o man_n may_v have_v not_o only_o with_o absolute_a safety_n but_o with_o absolute_a satisfaction_n in_o the_o bosom_n of_o their_o church_n but_o indeed_o this_o conclusion_n have_v not_o any_o tendency_n to_o salvation_n at_o all_o but_o be_v quite_o contrary_a to_o all_o that_o be_v allege_v and_o lead_v express_o to_o nothing_o else_o but_o to_o the_o utter_a overthrow_n and_o subversion_n of_o the_o whole_a scripture_n itself_o with_o the_o mind_n law_n will_n and_o counsel_n of_o god_n so_o far_o at_o least_o as_o depend_v upon_o revelation_n in_o regard_v it_o put_v the_o scripture_n together_o with_o the_o whole_a authority_n of_o it_o though_o divine_a in_o itself_o absolute_o perfect_o and_o entire_o into_o the_o arbitrary_a will_n and_o power_n of_o the_o say_a church_n and_o therefore_o the_o protestant_n upon_o consideration_n of_o the_o extreme_a mischief_n that_o must_v of_o necessity_n follow_v from_o such_o a_o conclusion_n as_o this_o they_o do_v with_o indignation_n reject_v it_o and_o first_o the_o protestant_n do_v whole_o deny_v that_o the_o say_a church_n of_o rome_n have_v any_o rightful_a authority_n to_o make_v null_a the_o grammar_n of_o the_o scripture_n second_o the_o protestant_n do_v much_o more_o deny_v that_o she_o have_v any_o right_a to_o institute_v or_o set_v up_o such_o a_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n under_o any_o name_n or_o pretence_n whatever_o that_o be_v either_o opposite_a to_o the_o grammar_n of_o the_o scripture_n or_o that_o at_o least_o pretend_v that_o there_o be_v not_o a_o necessity_n to_o follow_v and_o observe_v the_o rule_n of_o it_o three_o consequent_o they_o utter_o deny_v that_o she_o have_v any_o right_a to_o transfer_v the_o authority_n of_o the_o scripture_n from_o the_o sense_n proper_a to_o the_o letter_n of_o itself_o to_o such_o a_o sense_n as_o be_v only_o and_o proper_o she_o and_o four_o they_o deny_v that_o she_o have_v any_o right_a or_o any_o power_n to_o set_v up_o any_o sense_n of_o her_o own_o at_o all_o which_o be_v not_o absolute_o subject_v to_o the_o rule_n and_o authority_n that_o be_v inherent_a to_o the_o scripture_n letter_n and_o word_n with_o the_o proper_a sense_n of_o it_o as_o this_o be_v and_o aught_o to_o be_v supreme_a to_o all_o other_o five_o and_o they_o do_v much_o less_o acknowledge_v that_o she_o have_v any_o such_o right_n in_o she_o or_o derive_v to_o she_o therefore_o as_o to_o make_v her_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n or_o what_o she_o declare_v to_o be_v so_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o universal_a church_n six_o or_o that_o she_o have_v any_o right_a to_o make_v her_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o absolute_a or_o supreme_a rule_n of_o all_o infallible_a and_o christian_a truth_n or_o to_o disallow_v any_o appeal_n from_o her_o proper_a determination_n to_o the_o live_a rule_n of_o the_o scripture_n grammar_n and_o to_o the_o letter_n or_o word_n of_o it_o seven_o and_o the_o protestant_n deny_v all_o these_o thing_n they_o do_v deny_v therefore_o that_o she_o have_v any_o authority_n power_n or_o right_o to_o dispense_v with_o that_o duty_n and_o obligation_n which_o be_v divine_o and_o absolute_o lay_v upon_o the_o conscience_n of_o man_n which_o be_v to_o obey_v the_o word_n of_o god_n in_o the_o literal_a plain_a and_o express_v sense_n of_o it_o eight_o and_o the_o protestant_n do_v deny_v consequent_o that_o the_o conscience_n of_o man_n be_v or_o can_v any_o way_n possible_o be_v oblige_v to_o her_o bare_a determination_n of_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n especial_o so_o far_o as_o this_o be_v set_v up_o absolute_o by_o she_o and_o be_v not_o dependent_a upon_o any_o sense_n proper_a to_o the_o word_n and_o grammar_n of_o the_o scripture_n itself_o all_o and_o every_o of_o which_o power_n as_o the_o protestant_a church_n do_v whole_o deny_v to_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n so_o for_o as_o much_o as_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n can_v pretend_v to_o no_o one_o of_o the_o say_a right_n or_o authority_n now_o mention_v otherwise_o than_o as_o it_o must_v by_o some_o mean_n or_o other_o be_v lawful_o convey_v or_o derive_v to_o she_o the_o protestant_a church_n therefore_o challenge_v she_o and_o provoke_v she_o to_o show_v that_o special_a and_o peculiar_a commission_n by_o which_o she_o and_o she_o alone_o be_v impower_v to_o do_v all_o or_o any_o of_o those_o thing_n before_o name_v because_o without_o this_o commission_n can_v be_v produce_v and_o produce_v upon_o some_o clear_a evident_a and_o sufficient_a warrant_n or_o ground_n for_o it_o all_o her_o pretence_n to_o the_o say_a authority_n see_v it_o be_v so_o manifest_o destructive_a to_o the_o scripture_n itself_o must_v needs_o appear_v to_o be_v not_o only_o precarious_a but_o very_o frivolous_a and_o very_a absurd_a the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v thus_o challenge_v and_o provoke_v in_o the_o point_n of_o her_o commission_n and_o yet_o well_o know_v that_o there_o be_v nothing_o which_o she_o can_v possible_o appeal_v unto_o for_o the_o proof_n of_o her_o authority_n beside_o the_o scripture_n itself_o she_o become_v hereupon_o to_o be_v several_a way_n distress_v and_o perplex_v first_o because_o she_o find_v that_o she_o can_v allow_v of_o the_o grammatical_a sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n in_o any_o one_o case_n whatever_o but_o she_o must_v necessary_o and_o unavoidable_o allow_v it_o in_o all_o other_o case_n also_o where_o it_o may_v
equal_o and_o with_o as_o good_a warrant_n be_v allege_v second_o she_o discern_v that_o if_o she_o shall_v allow_v the_o grammar_n of_o the_o scripture_n to_o be_v authoritative_a at_o all_o she_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a to_o prevent_v the_o pretence_n that_o other_o will_v have_v even_o among_o the_o laity_n itself_o to_o be_v as_o competent_a judge_n of_o the_o say_a grammar_n as_o herself_o three_o beside_o these_o two_o extreme_a inconvenience_n which_o by_o she_o be_v not_o to_o be_v endure_v she_o evident_o also_o see_v that_o the_o word_n of_o scripture_n themselves_o will_v not_o of_o themselves_o by_o any_o literal_a construction_n or_o exposition_n of_o they_o be_v sufficient_a to_o prove_v any_o such_o authority_n as_o she_o claim_v and_o that_o shall_v the_o word_n of_o the_o scripture_n be_v urge_v therefore_o no_o further_o than_o according_a to_o the_o express_a tenor_n of_o they_o or_o according_a to_o the_o sense_n that_o the_o grammar_n itself_o will_v bear_v of_o they_o she_o shall_v be_v so_o far_o from_o gain_v the_o power_n and_o commission_n which_o she_o pretend_v to_o have_v a_o warrant_n for_o that_o instead_o of_o it_o she_o shall_v expose_v her_o authority_n to_o a_o manifest_a hazard_n even_o not_o only_o to_o be_v sift_v ventilate_v and_o discuss_v by_o other_o but_o as_o free_o censure_v by_o such_o as_o shall_v observe_v the_o nature_n of_o her_o inference_n and_o how_o weak_o and_o infirm_o they_o be_v deduce_v with_o respect_n to_o the_o genuine_a force_n or_o construction_n of_o the_o word_n themselves_o and_o therefore_o as_o for_o all_o these_o reason_n she_o apparent_o discern_v that_o the_o grammar_n of_o the_o scripture_n be_v a_o adversary_n absolute_o to_o she_o so_o she_o do_v as_o smart_o and_o dexterous_o perceive_v that_o the_o scripture_n itself_o be_v the_o authority_n of_o it_o allow_v to_o be_v in_o the_o grammar_n will_v be_v as_o great_a a_o enemy_n every_o way_n to_o she_o as_o even_o the_o literal_a and_o grammatical_a sense_n of_o it_o be_v for_o in_o as_o much_o as_o these_o three_o thing_n be_v at_o once_o both_o equal_o and_o necessary_o incumbent_a upon_o she_o and_o such_o as_o can_v any_o of_o they_o possible_o be_v dispense_v with_o by_o she_o viz._n first_o to_o prove_v the_o peculiarity_n of_o her_o authority_n above_o any_o other_o church_n beside_o her_o whatever_n and_o second_o to_o justify_v the_o incorruption_n of_o her_o doctrine_n and_o three_o to_o preserve_v the_o pretence_n that_o she_o have_v by_o this_o consequent_o to_o infallibility_n and_o see_v these_o three_o do_v so_o much_o concern_v she_o that_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n very_o plain_a and_o very_o easy_a to_o perceive_v that_o unless_o they_o can_v all_o be_v maintain_v uphold_v and_o defend_v in_o some_o measure_n rational_o by_o she_o she_o can_v no_o way_n keep_v up_o her_o temporal_a power_n nor_o any_o way_n avoid_v a_o lyableness_n to_o a_o reformation_n wherefore_o have_v upon_o a_o due_a and_o serious_a survey_n of_o the_o letter_n and_o grammar_n of_o the_o holy_a scripture_n sufficient_o find_v and_o clear_o observe_v that_o the_o scripture_n as_o thus_o strict_o consider_v in_o the_o order_n disposition_n and_o construction_n of_o its_o letter_n will_v never_o be_v serviceable_a to_o she_o in_o any_o one_o of_o these_o three_o respect_n but_o will_v on_o the_o contrary_a express_o oppose_v she_o as_o she_o be_v hereby_o express_o convince_v then_o that_o there_o can_v be_v no_o cause_n why_o she_o shall_v magnify_v the_o express_a word_n of_o it_o and_o much_o less_o any_o cause_n why_o she_o shall_v trust_v in_o it_o or_o appeal_v to_o it_o so_o lest_o that_o other_o shall_v be_v carry_v away_o with_o a_o rational_a opinion_n of_o it_o and_o shall_v for_o this_o cause_n be_v induce_v to_o urge_v and_o press_v several_a thing_n against_o she_o from_o it_o she_o see_v it_o but_o necessary_a that_o she_o shall_v come_v to_o a_o deliberate_a resolution_n with_o herself_o to_o weaken_v the_o credit_n of_o the_o scripture_n whole_o and_o not_o only_o to_o deny_v all_o authority_n and_o even_o all_o divinity_n itself_o to_o be_v in_o the_o word_n letter_n and_o grammar_n of_o the_o scripture_n strict_o consider_v by_o itself_o but_o to_o deny_v also_o that_o any_o sense_n be_v capable_a to_o be_v certain_o have_v from_o it_o or_o any_o truth_n that_o be_v infallible_a which_o how_o hold_v a_o thing_n soever_o it_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v yet_o she_o see_v it_o no_o way_n avoidable_o by_o she_o because_o she_o have_v no_o way_n beside_o this_o to_o secure_v herself_o against_o all_o that_o inconveniency_n that_o she_o know_v the_o scripture_n will_v and_o must_v otherwise_o cast_v upon_o she_o necessary_o by_o virtue_n of_o the_o expressness_n and_o authority_n of_o its_o letter_n have_v then_o take_v up_o this_o resolution_n in_o the_o first_o place_n consider_v nevertheless_o mature_o with_o herself_o that_o if_o she_o shall_v cast_v off_o all_o her_o relation_n to_o the_o scripture_n whole_o and_o entire_o she_o can_v not_o maintain_v the_o very_a authority_n of_o the_o church_n itself_o and_o much_o less_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o defend_v either_o the_o divinity_n or_o the_o infallibility_n of_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v seek_v by_o she_o she_o therefore_o come_v to_o a_o second_o resolution_n which_o she_o judge_v no_o less_o necessary_a and_o expedient_a for_o she_o than_o the_o former_a viz._n to_o maintain_v the_o divinity_n and_o set_v up_o the_o authority_n absolute_o of_o the_o scripture_n though_o not_o in_o the_o express_a letter_n of_o it_o nor_o in_o the_o sense_n proper_a to_o it_o yet_o as_o we_o have_v say_v already_o in_o another_o sense_n that_o she_o set_v up_o instead_o of_o it_o that_o be_v according_a to_o such_o a_o sense_n which_o she_o judge_v convenient_a that_o she_o herself_o shall_v as_o a_o church_n put_v upon_o it_o and_o put_v upon_o it_o in_o such_o manner_n also_o and_o with_o such_o a_o construction_n and_o exposition_n as_o may_v be_v most_o suitable_a to_o her_o own_o end_n and_o most_o answerable_a to_o her_o own_o particular_a interest_n which_o sense_n she_o therefore_o style_v by_o the_o specious_a name_n or_o appellation_n of_o the_o catholic_n sense_n or_o of_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o universal_a church_n in_o distinction_n at_o least_o from_o and_o for_o the_o better_a avoid_v of_o that_o sense_n which_o be_v true_o literal_a and_o be_v proper_o constructive_a and_o grammatical_a and_o as_o it_o be_v this_o sense_n alone_o therefore_o as_o catholic_n that_o she_o confine_v both_o the_o authority_n and_o divinity_n of_o the_o scripture_n to_o and_o that_o also_o entire_o so_o she_o do_v this_o in_o she_o own_o more_o than_o ordinary_a judgement_n and_o prudence_n in_o regard_n she_o be_v sure_a that_o this_o sense_n will_v never_o fail_v she_o but_o will_v always_o be_v ready_a to_o abett_v whatever_o shall_v upon_o any_o occasion_n be_v determine_v by_o she_o because_o this_o sense_n require_v no_o deep_a reason_n nor_o any_o firm_a bottom_n or_o ground_n at_o any_o time_n for_o it_o than_o what_o resolve_v itself_o at_o length_n into_o the_o mere_a arbitrary_a will_n and_o pleasure_n of_o herself_o and_o so_o she_o can_v never_o be_v accountable_a further_o for_o it_o than_o bare_o to_o declare_v it_o or_o affirm_v it_o to_o be_v the_o catholic_n sense_n because_o she_o say_v it_o be_v the_o sense_n of_o the_o universal_a church_n and_o be_v not_o this_o rare_a policy_n justify_v also_o her_o rightful_a throw_v off_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o grammar_n itself_o and_o to_o justify_v she_o transfer_v the_o whole_a divinity_n of_o the_o scripture_n from_o the_o natural_a order_n and_o construction_n of_o its_o word_n to_o a_o sense_n altogether_o foreign_a to_o its_o letter_n and_o to_o the_o expressness_n of_o it_o i_o say_v to_o justify_v all_z this_o she_o plead_v she_o own_o authority_n not_o only_o as_o divine_a but_o as_o absolute_a and_o infallible_a and_o consequent_o as_o that_o which_o ought_v to_o be_v submit_v unto_o by_o every_o one_o and_o that_o ready_o as_o to_o the_o very_a ordinance_n and_o appointment_n of_o god_n himself_o which_o be_v the_o very_a question_n itself_o that_o be_v in_o dispute_n and_o that_o very_a thing_n therefore_o that_o be_v first_o of_o all_o necessary_a to_o be_v prove_v by_o she_o she_o be_v constrain_v by_o this_o mean_n whether_o she_o will_v or_o no_o to_o run_v round_o in_o a_o circle_n of_o it_o or_o do_v not_o at_o least_o dare_v to_o trust_v to_o it_o wherefore_o if_o the_o say_a church_n or_o the_o clergy_n rather_o as_o the_o ruler_n of_o it_o mere_o upon_o these_o ground_n and_o only_o to_o these_o end_n which_o be_v both_o thus_o evil_a in_o themselves_o and_o thus_o contrary_a to_o the_o very_a ground_n and_o end_n of_o our_o reformation_n shall_v endeavour_v to_o engage_v the_o power_n of_o the_o civil_a magistrate_n to_o her_o assistance_n which_o god_n forbid_v they_o shall_v ever_o do_v any_o more_o in_o england_n for_o we_o have_v good_a ground_n to_o believe_v that_o several_a of_o the_o rule_v clergy_n if_o not_o all_o do_v abhor_v it_o to_o their_o praise_n be_v it_o speak_v i_o humble_o offer_v it_o to_o consideration_n whether_o in_o move_v this_o to_o a_o prince_n especial_o as_o he_o be_v a_o protestant_n she_o do_v or_o can_v move_v he_o to_o any_o other_o purpose_n than_o that_o his_o authority_n may_v promote_v the_o defection_n she_o have_v make_v from_o she_o own_o principle_n and_o may_v countenance_v she_o in_o that_o which_o she_o know_v that_o the_o rule_n of_o the_o reformation_n and_o of_o protestantism_n can_v viz._n not_o only_o her_o cruelty_n and_o severity_n but_o her_o exorbitancy_n and_o whether_o she_o have_v or_o can_v have_v any_o argument_n to_o the_o say_a prince_n for_o his_o countenance_v of_o she_o great_a than_o this_o viz_o than_o as_o she_o know_v that_o all_o the_o evil_n which_o will_v be_v charge_v upon_o her_o whole_o and_o only_a as_o a_o church_n may_v now_o through_o his_o countenance_v of_o she_o be_v in_o part_n as_o well_o charge_v upon_o his_o royal_a authority_n and_o pleasure_n as_o upon_o she_o which_o argument_n be_v real_o of_o no_o better_a a_o nature_n than_o this_o whether_o it_o be_v therefore_o reasonable_a in_o itself_o or_o whether_o it_o be_v so_o much_o as_o fit_v or_o modest_a for_o the_o say_a church_n to_o make_v or_o whether_o it_o be_v agreeable_a to_o that_o duty_n honour_n and_o sincerity_n which_o she_o as_o a_o church_n profess_v to_o owe_v and_o aught_o at_o all_o time_n upright_o to_o pay_v to_o her_o prince_n i_o humble_o leave_v and_o submit_v to_o the_o judgement_n of_o all_o ingenious_a person_n and_o especial_o when_o with_o reference_n to_o the_o effect_n of_o this_o motion_n it_o be_v matter_n of_o fact_n that_o though_o twenty_o six_o private_a person_n will_v be_v thereby_o gratify_v some_o of_o who_o be_v man_n of_o no_o birth_n interest_n or_o temporal_a estate_n in_o the_o nation_n and_o more_o than_o twice_o so_o many_o thousand_o be_v great_o grieve_v injure_a and_o wrong_v in_o their_o person_n and_o estate_n which_o be_v equal_o his_o majesty_n subject_n as_o well_o as_o they_o and_o many_o of_o which_o be_v every_o way_n peer_n to_o they_o for_o birth_n for_o virtue_n for_o loyalty_n for_o temperance_n for_o morality_n for_o mercy_n for_o charity_n for_o temporal_a estate_n and_o even_o for_o learn_v also_o and_o here_o it_o will_v be_v necessary_a in_o the_o next_o place_n to_o consider_v again_o what_o it_o be_v in_o these_o respect_n that_o we_o blame_v the_o church_n of_o rome_n for_o i_o mean_v what_o the_o gild_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n be_v for_o either_o gild_n be_v a_o thing_n of_o weight_n before_o god_n or_o it_o be_v not_o and_o either_o the_o gild_n which_o have_v be_v charge_v upon_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n by_o reason_n of_o her_o persecution_n by_o our_o reformer_n first_o and_o by_o many_o worthy_a man_n of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n since_o be_v just_o charge_v upon_o she_o or_o it_o be_v not_o but_o if_o that_o gild_n be_v real_a and_o that_o it_o be_v just_o charge_v upon_o the_o say_a church_n it_o be_v apparent_o criminal_a two_o way_n first_o as_o she_o through_o her_o persecution_n be_v the_o cause_n of_o all_o that_o hypocrisy_n dissimulation_n and_o apostasy_n which_o man_n commit_v for_o mere_a fear_n of_o she_o and_o by_o which_o though_o out_o of_o weakness_n they_o do_v great_o wrong_v their_o own_o conscience_n and_o great_o injure_v their_o former_a profession_n before_o god_n and_o know_v they_o do_v so_o and_o lie_v ofttimes_o under_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n all_o their_o life_n afterward_o for_o it_o and_o second_o she_o be_v equal_o guilty_a as_o she_o be_v the_o cause_n by_o reason_n of_o her_o persecution_n of_o the_o suffering_n distress_n and_o great_a affliction_n which_o many_o particular_a person_n and_o many_o family_n groan_v under_o by_o which_o she_o occasion_n many_o solemn_a complaint_n cry_n and_o appeal_v to_o be_v make_v unto_o god_n which_o man_n who_o be_v conscious_a to_o themselves_o of_o their_o sincerity_n towards_o god_n do_v pour_v out_o to_o he_o as_o the_o righteous_a judge_n of_o all_o person_n and_o if_o this_o be_v the_o gild_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n and_o if_o we_o as_o protestant_n when_o we_o write_v against_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n do_v say_v that_o all_o the_o righteous_a prayer_n appeal_n and_o complaint_n to_o god_n against_o she_o shall_v be_v hear_v and_o that_o she_o shall_v answer_v as_o well_o for_o the_o crime_n of_o other_o as_o for_o the_o oppression_n and_o wrong_n that_o she_o have_v do_v to_o other_o what_o then_o can_v be_v say_v when_o a_o protestant_a church_n or_o the_o clergy_n rather_o who_o be_v the_o ruler_n of_o it_o shall_v be_v guilty_a of_o the_o same_o manner_n of_o persecution_n and_o upon_o the_o very_a same_o unjust_a or_o upon_o more_o unjust_a ground_n or_o principle_n that_o the_o popish_a clergy_n be_v and_o when_o by_o the_o mean_n of_o this_o persecution_n the_o say_v protestant_a clergy_n be_v the_o occasion_n of_o many_o man_n hypocrisy_n dissimulation_n and_o desertion_n of_o their_o principle_n through_o weakness_n to_o the_o extreme_a injury_n and_o wrong_n of_o their_o conscience_n and_o be_v the_o express_a cause_n of_o the_o sigh_n suffering_n groan_n and_o complaint_n of_o divers_a other_o that_o be_v pour_v out_o in_o the_o very_a bitterness_n of_o their_o soul_n unto_o god_n and_o when_o the_o say_v protestant_a church_n or_o the_o rule_v clergy_n rather_o of_o it_o shall_v have_v no_o sense_n at_o all_o of_o the_o evil_a of_o any_o of_o these_o thing_n nor_o seem_v to_o be_v in_o the_o least_o move_v or_o concern_v for_o they_o these_o thing_n be_v consider_v the_o question_n be_v whether_o any_o man_n that_o be_v rational_a can_v draw_v any_o other_o conclusion_n from_o they_o but_o that_o the_o say_v protestant_a church_n or_o the_o rule_v clergy_n of_o it_o do_v not_o believe_v themselves_o at_o all_o when_o they_o write_v against_o the_o papist_n for_o these_o thing_n and_o that_o notwithstanding_o they_o do_v threaten_v the_o church_n of_o rome_n with_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n because_o of_o their_o cruelty_n and_o of_o their_o persecution_n of_o man_n for_o their_o conscience_n sake_n yet_o they_o do_v indeed_o but_o laugh_v in_o their_o sleeve_n at_o it_o and_o do_v not_o believe_v any_o such_o thing_n as_o that_o the_o direful_a judgement_n of_o god_n shall_v come_v upon_o any_o either_o for_o cruelty_n or_o for_o persecution_n of_o other_o for_o conscience_n sake_n or_o for_o be_v the_o occasion_n of_o many_o man_n sin_v against_o and_o wound_v of_o their_o own_o conscience_n but_o that_o when_o they_o speak_v of_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n they_o speak_v of_o they_o but_o as_o scare-crow_n bugbear_n or_o potgun_n for_o will_v it_o not_o be_v a_o uncharitable_a thing_n or_o rather_o be_v it_o not_o a_o incredible_a thing_n for_o any_o man_n to_o think_v that_o the_o protestant_a clergy_n shall_v do_v the_o very_a same_o thing_n which_o they_o express_o declare_v and_o acknowledge_v to_o be_v heinous_a offence_n and_o crime_n against_o god_n in_o their_o adversary_n the_o church_n of_o rome_n if_o they_o do_v real_o believe_v themselves_o in_o what_o they_o usual_o write_v when_o they_o threaten_v they_o with_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n upon_o they_o for_o the_o say_a thing_n if_o to_o avoid_v this_o which_o they_o perhaps_o may_v look_v upon_o as_o some_o imputation_n or_o or_o principle_n upon_o which_o they_o persecute_v man_n be_v much_o different_a from_o those_o of_o the_o papist_n or_o church_n of_o rome_n let_v they_o i_o mean_v the_o rule_v clergy_n lay_v down_o the_o state_n of_o it_o and_o show_v we_o wherein_o the_o greatness_n of_o the_o say_a difference_n do_v consist_v for_o if_o the_o fact_n for_o which_o man_n be_v punish_v by_o the_o say_a protestant_n clergy_n be_v the_o very_a same_o or_o of_o the_o same_o nature_n with_o that_o for_o which_o the_o

the_o laity_n or_o clergy_n who_o will_v not_o withdraw_v their_o obedience_n immediate_o from_o the_o letter_n of_o the_o say_a word_n and_o from_o the_o authority_n of_o it_o and_o give_v it_o to_o she_o as_o a_o church_n which_o injury_n against_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o scripture_n or_o write_v letter_n of_o the_o word_n of_o it_o as_o it_o be_v therefore_o know_o witting_o and_o willing_o commit_v by_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n must_v for_o this_o cause_n be_v much_o the_o great_a but_o the_o greatness_n and_o heinousness_n of_o it_o be_v make_v most_o manifest_a by_o that_o argument_n which_o the_o apostle_n use_v heb._n 2.2_o 3._o heb._n 10.28_o 29._o heb._n 12.25_o for_o if_o the_o law_n or_o covenant_n of_o moses_n how_o divine_a soever_o be_v give_v to_o the_o church_n nevertheless_o by_o one_o that_o be_v no_o more_o than_o a_o servant_n only_o in_o god_n house_n and_o if_o that_o the_o grace_n and_o truth_n which_o come_v by_o jesus_n christ_n be_v give_v we_o by_o the_o only_a son_n of_o god_n who_o be_v proper_o the_o lord_n himself_o of_o the_o house_n then_o a_o sin_n or_o crime_n do_v purposely_o against_o the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n and_o out_o of_o a_o real_a intent_n or_o design_n to_o turn_v man_n from_o the_o express_a word_n or_o letter_n of_o that_o law_n or_o covenant_n which_o be_v set_v up_o by_o christ_n must_v be_v a_o far_o great_a evil_a or_o impiety_n against_o god_n than_o the_o like_a sin_n attempt_v against_o the_o law_n of_o moses_n with_o a_o purpose_n or_o intent_n to_o turn_v man_n from_o the_o letter_n and_o express_a word_n of_o it_o there_o be_v such_o force_n and_o strength_n in_o this_o argument_n add_v to_o what_o have_v be_v already_o say_v as_o there_o need_v no_o more_o to_o be_v say_v to_o manifest_v the_o abominableness_n of_o this_o evil_a and_o therefore_o we_o shall_v herewith_o conclude_v this_o discourse_n as_o with_o that_o great_a word_n of_o truth_n which_o ought_v in_o this_o case_n to_o be_v most_o of_o all_o ponder_v and_o consider_v by_o they_o who_o it_o most_o concern_v for_o if_o it_o be_v evil_a in_o any_o even_o in_o he_o that_o have_v the_o name_n of_o a_o prophet_n to_o turn_v man_n from_o the_o law_n or_o from_o the_o word_n of_o moses_n who_o be_v but_o the_o servant_n of_o god_n with_o a_o intent_n that_o they_o shall_v rely_v upon_o another_o word_n different_a from_o it_o even_o upon_o his_o word_n or_o upon_o such_o a_o sign_n or_o wonder_v as_o be_v wrought_v by_o he_o who_o do_v desire_v so_o to_o turn_v they_o from_o moses_n and_o if_o this_o be_v such_o a_o evil_a as_o be_v by_o god_n own_o command_n to_o be_v punish_v absolute_o with_o death_n then_o how_o much_o great_a evil_n must_v it_o be_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n to_o go_v about_o to_o turn_v man_n from_o the_o express_a word_n and_o law_n of_o the_o lord_n christ_n who_o be_v the_o only_o beget_v son_n of_o god_n with_o a_o intent_n that_o they_o shall_v rely_v upon_o another_o word_n different_a from_o it_o and_o to_o do_v this_o not_o only_o wilful_o but_o avowed_o and_o profess_o by_o preach_v to_o man_n open_o that_o it_o be_v not_o their_o duty_n to_o rely_v upon_o the_o word_n of_o christ_n as_o it_o be_v immediate_o and_o express_o set_v down_o by_o the_o holy_a spirit_n but_o upon_o the_o church_n only_o and_o what_o the_o church_n shall_v declare_v to_o they_o concern_v the_o say_a word_n and_o when_o to_o effect_v this_o also_o the_o better_a man_n shall_v throw_v so_o great_a contempt_n and_o scandal_n upon_o the_o say_a word_n as_o to_o affirm_v it_o to_o be_v so_o dark_a and_o confuse_a that_o no_o certain_a or_o infallible_a sense_n either_o be_v in_o it_o or_o can_v possible_o be_v have_v from_o it_o and_o if_o this_o sin_n be_v the_o great_a under_o the_o law_n because_o of_o those_o miracle_n which_o god_n have_v wrought_v by_o moses_n to_o testify_v he_o to_o be_v the_o servant_n of_o himself_o than_o it_o must_v be_v a_o aggravation_n of_o the_o say_a sin_n under_o the_o gospel_n because_o god_n have_v not_o only_o by_o miracle_n but_o even_o by_o moses_n himself_o and_o by_o many_o other_o mean_n and_o way_n in_o
