in_o the_o mode_n of_o performance_n whether_o it_o be_v do_v with_o the_o mind_n only_o or_o with_o the_o voice_n also_o therefore_o when_o mr._n m._n say_v pag._n 6._o the_o essence_n of_o prayer_n be_v in_o the_o heart_n or_o spirit_n this_o be_v true_a in_o the_o general_a of_o one_o species_n of_o prayer_n namely_o mental_a but_o not_o of_o vocal_a prayer_n for_o the_o nature_n and_o essence_n of_o this_o consist_v in_o the_o voice_n as_o well_o as_o in_o the_o mind_n and_o though_o god_n will_v be_v worship_v in_o spirit_n and_o in_o truth_n joh._n 4._o yet_o who_o doubt_v but_o spiritual_a worship_n may_v be_v perform_v by_o bodily_a organ_n as_o to_o the_o other_o scripture_n he_o mention_n to_o prove_v his_o lame_a definition_n of_o prayer_n they_o relate_v only_o to_o mental_a prayer_n and_o the_o scripture_n be_v as_o plentiful_a in_o other_o instance_n for_o vocal_a prayer_n have_v he_o be_v willing_a to_o collect_v they_o but_o this_o indeed_o will_v have_v show_v he_o that_o the_o essence_n of_o prayer_n be_v not_o only_o in_o the_o spirit_n §_o 6._o as_o to_o the_o nature_n of_o sing_v i_o conceive_v it_o lie_v here_o it_o be_v a_o ordinance_n of_o god_n and_o a_o holy_a action_n of_o a_o reasonable_a creature_n wherein_o by_o a_o fit_a modulation_n of_o voice_n suitable_a to_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o matter_n sing_v they_o sound_v forth_o god_n praise_n it_o be_v a_o mode_n of_o speak_v it_o be_v a_o solemn_a or_o melodious_a way_n of_o sound_v forth_o the_o praise_n of_o god_n and_o how_o this_o which_o be_v a_o mode_n of_o speak_v unless_o accident_n may_v exist_v separate_a from_o their_o subject_n which_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o rule_n of_o all_o logic_n whereas_o therefore_o mr._n m._n pag._n 7._o thus_o argue_v if_o the_o essence_n of_o prayer_n be_v inward_o in_o the_o spirit_n why_o not_o of_o sing_v also_o not_o to_o repeat_v what_o i_o have_v say_v of_o prayer_n i_o reply_v for_o very_o good_a reason_n because_o prayer_n may_v be_v perform_v by_o the_o mind_n without_o the_o voice_n mental_a prayer_n be_v a_o action_n and_o accident_n of_o the_o mind_n this_o be_v not_o separate_v from_o its_o
