notion_n which_o many_o of_o the_o more_o learned_a heathen_n have_v of_o death_n but_o for_o all_o this_o we_o find_v it_o natural_a to_o most_o man_n to_o seek_v the_o prolongation_n of_o life_n by_o all_o mean_v possible_a the_o poor_a man_n in_o the_o fable_n when_o he_o have_v drudge_v all_o day_n in_o cut_v and_o carry_v thorn_n at_o last_o spend_v with_o heat_n and_o labour_n he_o throw_v away_o his_o burden_n and_o sit_v down_o upon_o the_o ground_n call_v on_o death_n to_o deliver_v he_o from_o his_o wretched_a life_n grim_a death_n present_o appear_v with_o his_o javelin_n in_o his_o hand_n and_o ask_v he_o what_o he_o have_v to_o say_v nothing_o reply_v the_o good_a man_n but_o that_o you_o will_v be_v so_o kind_a as_o to_o help_v i_o up_o again_o with_o my_o burden_n though_o we_o often_o cry_v out_o of_o a_o weary_a life_n yet_o when_o once_o that_o ghastly_a adversary_n appear_v most_o man_n desire_v to_o return_v to_o their_o former_a burden_n and_o to_o toil_v long_o among_o the_o briar_n and_o vexation_n of_o life_n the_o best_a course_n therefore_o that_o a_o man_n can_v take_v to_o fortify_v himself_o against_o the_o terror_n of_o death_n be_v to_o think_v often_o of_o it_o the_o wolf_n in_o the_o fable_n when_o he_o first_o see_v the_o lion_n be_v ready_a to_o die_v with_o fear_n the_o next_o time_n he_o see_v he_o he_o be_v afraid_a indeed_o but_o the_o three_o time_n he_o grow_v bold_a to_o draw_v near_o and_o to_o converse_v with_o he_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o soldier_n who_o converse_v always_o with_o wound_n and_o die_a man_n be_v no_o way_n concern_v at_o the_o fall_n of_o other_o or_o at_o their_o own_o danger_n but_o this_o kind_n of_o hardiness_n proceed_v rather_o from_o custom_n than_o from_o a_o well_o settle_a consideration_n natural_o speak_v that_o which_o make_v man_n dread_a death_n be_v the_o evil_a of_o privation_n rather_o than_o of_o pain_n the_o separation_n of_o soul_n and_o body_n in_o which_o consist_v death_n be_v probable_o without_o sense_n and_o whatever_o pain_n precede_v it_o they_o be_v short_a of_o the_o dolour_n of_o many_o disease_n and_o of_o other_o disaster_n which_o every_o man_n meet_v with_o some_o time_n or_o other_o of_o his_o life_n but_o to_o bid_v a_o eternal_a adieu_o to_o wife_n child_n friend_n pleasure_n pomp_n preferment_n with_o all_o the_o blandishment_n of_o this_o world_n be_v uneasy_a to_o most_o man_n and_o to_o this_o condition_n must_v the_o great_a favourite_n of_o fortune_n be_v reduce_v the_o best_a consideration_n therefore_o in_o this_o case_n be_v that_o of_o epictetus_n who_o compare_v the_o course_n of_o man_n life_n to_o that_o of_o a_o passenger_n at_o sea_n where_o the_o patron_n or_o master_n of_o the_o vessel_n be_v to_o take_v in_o fresh_a water_n or_o some_o such_o necessary_a provision_n set_v his_o passenger_n ashore_o for_o refreshment_n to_o pass_v away_o the_o time_n a_o little_a some_o fall_n to_o gather_v cockle_n other_o reed_n or_o some_o such_o toy_n they_o meet_v with_o yet_o so_o as_o to_o be_v always_o ready_a to_o leave_v they_o whensoever_o the_o master_n call_v his_o man_n aboard_o so_o in_o this_o life_n instead_o of_o a_o shell_n or_o bulrush_n thou_o may_v have_v a_o wife_n a_o child_n
