according_a to_o the_o strength_n or_o weakness_n of_o corruption_n so_o the_o soul_n act_v less_o or_o more_o sinful_o and_o it_o be_v mighty_o hinder_v in_o act_v according_a to_o its_o own_o nature_n as_o a_o spirit_n thereby_o but_o not_o to_o carry_v this_o too_o far_o last_o as_o the_o body_n be_v still_o crave_v one_o thing_n or_o other_o meat_n drink_z sleep_n clothes_n the_o cool_a shade_n or_o warm_a fire_n etc._n etc._n so_o corrupt_a nature_n be_v still_o crave_v now_o to_o have_v this_o and_o then_o to_o have_v that_o just_a satisfy_v this_o or_o that_o motion_n fulfil_v and_o as_o solomon_n say_v the_o eye_n be_v not_o satisfy_v with_o see_v nor_o the_o ear_n with_o hear_v so_o corrupt_a nature_n be_v never_o satisfy_v with_o sin_v but_o as_o the_o more_o many_o time_n a_o man_n see_v and_o hear_v of_o that_o which_o delight_n the_o more_o he_o desire_v to_o see_v and_o to_o hear_v so_o the_o more_o corrupt_a nature_n in_o its_o lusting_n be_v answer_v the_o what_o be_v the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n of_o corruption_n they_o be_v deed_n agreeable_a to_o it_o corrupt_a deed_n such_o as_o covet_v lie_v boast_a vain_a glory_v murmur_a dissemble_a with_o those_o many_o other_o of_o that_o evil_a kind_n that_o curse_a generation_n the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n be_v the_o fruit_n and_o birth_n of_o it_o which_o be_v sometime_o call_v the_o work_n of_o the_o flesh_n as_o in_o that_o gal._n 5.19_o sometime_o the_o member_n of_o the_o flesh_n or_o our_o member_n which_o be_v upon_o the_o earth_n col._n 3.5_o mortify_v therefore_o your_o member_n which_o be_v upon_o the_o earth_n uncleanness_n inordinate_a affection_n evil_a concupiscence_n and_o covetousness_n which_o be_v idolatry_n these_o be_v the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n or_o the_o ought_v not_o to_o be_v make_v light_n but_o our_o heart_n shall_v mourn_v be_v ashamed_a humble_v and_o break_v for_o they_o as_o well_o as_o for_o outward_a sin_n some_o one_o may_v here_o ask_v why_o say_v our_o apostle_n if_o you_o mortify_v the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n why_o say_v he_o not_o if_o you_o mortify_v the_o body_n it_o may_v be_v think_v he_o shall_v rather_o have_v speak_v break_v a_o man_n head_n to_o piece_n or_o stop_v his_o breathe_n and_o you_o kill_v his_o body_n if_o any_o say_v rather_o the_o way_n to_o mortify_v the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n be_v to_o mortify_v the_o body_n itself_o to_o mortify_v the_o root_n be_v the_o best_a way_n to_o mortify_v the_o fruit_n than_o i_o answer_v the_o apostle_n intend_v that_o that_o we_o mortify_v the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n by_o mortify_v the_o body_n corrupt_a nature_n itself_o which_o must_v be_v do_v for_o if_o any_o can_v mortify_v the_o deed_n of_o the_o old_a man_n bare_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n still_o remain_v unsubdued_a that_o will_v not_o avail_v three_o it_o be_v by_o the_o mortification_n of_o the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n that_o we_o know_v whether_o it_o be_v mortify_v yea_o or_o no_o as_o by_o the_o move_n of_o the_o natural_a body_n by_o the_o eye_n hand_n and_o nostril_n we_o know_v a_o man_n body_n to_o be_v alive_a or_o dead_a four_o
the_o apostle_n may_v hereby_o teach_v we_o we_o must_v fight_v against_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n in_o a_o particular_a distinct_a way_n take_v our_o aim_n now_o at_o this_o and_o then_o at_o that_o member_n of_o it_o work_v and_o motion_n of_o it_o according_a to_o its_o stir_v in_o we_o or_o perhaps_o the_o apostle_n may_v choose_v to_o say_v the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n because_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n itself_o will_v still_o abide_v in_o a_o great_a measure_n all_o our_o day_n here_o but_o divers_a of_o the_o deed_n of_o it_o may_v be_v even_o whole_o mortify_v in_o this_o life_n every_o one_o have_v a_o body_n of_o flesh_n visible_a wherein_o his_o soul_n dwell_v so_o real_o have_v every_o one_o a_o invisible_a body_n of_o sin_n dwell_v in_o his_o soul_n which_o body_n of_o sin_n have_v have_v many_o deed_n lusting_n evil_a motion_n in_o time_n past_a and_o it_o have_v many_o still_o and_o so_o still_o will_v it_o have_v while_o we_o be_v here_o for_o it_o be_v even_o continual_o lust_a stir_v one_o way_n or_o other_o i_o shall_v therefore_o 1._o speak_v somewhat_o concern_v the_o mortify_n the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n past_a 2._o concern_v the_o mortify_n of_o the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n as_o to_o time_n present_a 3._o concern_v the_o mortify_n thereof_o with_o respect_n to_o time_n to_o come_v 1._o for_o the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n past_a those_o lusting_n those_o evil_a affection_n sinful_a motion_n that_o heretofore_o you_o have_v have_v they_o in_o a_o sense_n be_v to_o be_v mortify_v how_o be_v that_o to_o be_v do_v how_o shall_v they_o that_o be_v pass_v be_v destroy_v ans_fw-fr by_o a_o hearty_a confession_n before_o god_n with_o godly_a sorrow_n and_o faith_n act_v in_o prayer_n on_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n for_o the_o pardon_n of_o they_o through_o his_o grace_n this_o be_v the_o way_n to_o mortify_v any_o and_o all_o the_o deed_n of_o the_o body_n that_o have_v be_v find_v with_o you_o in_o time_n past_a you_o must_v get_v they_o forgive_v and_o then_o they_o will_v be_v mortify_v they_o be_v as_o dead_a in_o law_n they_o be_v as_o if_o they_o have_v never_o be_v they_o then_o mortify_v in_o law_n so_o when_o your_o sin_n be_v pardon_v to_o you_o by_o god_n they_o be_v then_o bury_v they_o be_v blot_v out_o they_o be_v cast_v into_o the_o depth_n of_o the_o sea_n therefore_o the_o way_n to_o get_v what_o be_v past_a mortify_v be_v to_o get_v it_o remit_v take_v off_o the_o file_n to_o seek_v to_o have_v the_o book_n of_o divine_a justice_n cross_v where_o put_v a_o bar_n against_o the_o work_n of_o his_o unbelief_n so_o we_o shall_v still_o mortify_v every_o lust_a and_o motion_n of_o sin_n as_o man_n mortify_v a_o sore_n or_o disease_n by_o use_v all_o mean_n to_o put_v a_o stop_n to_o it_o that_o it_o increase_v and_o spread_v not_o we_o shall_v not_o rest_v till_o corruption_n be_v silence_v and_o give_v over_o its_o solicitation_n and_o if_o it_o will_v be_v stir_v still_o we_o shall_v labour_v to_o weaken_v the_o strength_n of_o it_o as_o much_o as_o possible_a so_o far_o as_o it_o be_v weaken_v it_o be_v mortify_v as_o the_o weak_a our_o body_n grow_v the_o near_a it_o be_v to_o death_n there_o be_v a_o degree_n of_o death_n in_o weakness_n but_o how_o shall_v we_o thus_o mortify_v the_o present_a deed_n of_o the_o flesh_n a._n in_o a_o few_o particular_n at_o this_o time_n first_o keep_v a_o observe_a eye_n upon_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n mind_n careful_o observe_v diligent_o what_o deed_n it_o bring_v forth_o what_o motion_n it_o have_v at_o this_o and_o that_o time_n as_o in_o sight_n they_o eye_n and_o mark_v every_o motion_n of_o the_o enemy_n there_o be_v who_o though_o they_o have_v many_o and_o mighty_a working_n of_o corruption_n they_o be_v ignorant_a of_o they_o or_o they_o little_o regard_v they_o except_o in_o some_o more_o than_o ordinary_a case_n but_o forasmuch_o as_o we_o have_v a_o body_n of_o sin_n that_o be_v very_o fruitful_a we_o shall_v still_o take_v good_a notice_n what_o fruit_n it_o do_v yield_v which_o way_n it_o move_v how_o shall_v we_o mortify_v the_o thing_n we_o be_v unacquainted_a with_o how_o oft_o be_v it_o that_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n work_v covetous_o how_o oft_o that_o it_o move_v proud_o how_o frequent_a that_o it_o lu_v envious_o in_o this_o or_o that_o man_n and_o he_o be_v not_o apprehensive_a or_o sensible_a thereof_o and_o then_o how_o be_v he_o like_v to_o do_v any_o thing_n towards_o the_o kill_a its_o fruit_n to_o bar_v its_o out-going_n second_o when_o you_o perceive_v any_o rise_n or_o motion_n of_o corruption_n it_o be_v good_a to_o consider_v what_o it_o be_v that_o give_v occasion_n thereto_o or_o by_o what_o it_o be_v that_o it_o take_v occasion_n whether_o it_o be_v some_o object_n of_o sense_n something_o you_o see_v or_o
too_o much_o to_o acknowledge_v this_o cause_n thereof_o second_o remember_v to_o seek_v not_o only_o the_o spirit_n be_v powerful_a but_o also_o its_o counsel_v and_o direct_v assistance_n we_o great_o need_v both_o we_o be_v weak_a therefore_o need_v the_o spirit_n be_v strength_n we_o be_v unwise_a and_o foolish_a therefore_o need_v its_o counsel_n as_o we_o have_v not_o power_n to_o do_v so_o neither_o understanding_n to_o discern_v what_o we_o shall_v do_v against_o our_o sin_n what_o be_v the_o best_a way_n and_o course_n to_o mortify_v they_o it_o be_v not_o unusual_a for_o man_n to_o take_v such_o a_o course_n for_o the_o destroy_v their_o sin_n as_o rather_o strengthen_v than_o weaken_v it_o enemy_n be_v overcome_v as_o oft_o if_o not_o often_o by_o policy_n than_o by_o main_a force_n so_o our_o sin_n be_v to_o be_v conquer_v by_o wisdom_n as_o well_o as_o if_o not_o more_o than_o by_o strength_n therefore_o look_v for_o the_o spirit_n to_o help_v you_o both_o as_o a_o spirit_n of_o power_n and_o also_o as_o a_o spirit_n of_o wisdom_n three_o beg_v that_o the_o spirit_n will_v not_o only_o help_v you_o against_o your_o sin_n but_o that_o it_o will_v cause_v you_o to_o make_v use_n of_o and_o trust_v in_o itself_o for_o its_o help_n that_o it_o will_v show_v you_o more_o and_o more_o your_o need_n of_o it_o convince_v you_o of_o your_o own_o weakness_n and_o foolishness_n that_o you_o may_v have_v no_o confidence_n in_o yourselves_o but_o whole_o depend_v on_o it_o four_o set_v yourselves_o against_o every_o sin_n through_o the_o spirit_n it_o may_v be_v you_o look_v for_o and_o desire_v the_o spirit_n assistance_n against_o some_o special_a strong_a corruption_n but_o you_o must_v seek_v its_o help_n against_o all_o or_o you_o will_v hardly_o have_v it_o against_o any_o you_o must_v not_o think_v any_o sin_n so_o small_a that_o it_o need_v not_o to_o be_v mortify_v nor_o any_o so_o weak_a that_o you_o can_v kill_v it_o of_o yourselves_o it_o offend_v the_o spirit_n if_o you_o so_o think_v it_o be_v much_o what_o a_o like_a evil_a to_o think_v any_o sin_n too_o strong_a to_o be_v subdue_v by_o the_o spirit_n and_o to_o think_v any_o so_o small_a that_o it_o need_v not_o or_o so_o weak_a that_o without_o the_o spirit_n it_o may_v be_v mortify_v five_o make_v sure_a of_o this_o that_o you_o be_v in_o christ_n and_o have_v receive_v the_o spirit_n from_o he_o and_o then_o steadfast_o expect_v its_o conduct_n powerful_a assistance_n and_o counsel_n for_o the_o destruction_n of_o your_o sin_n look_v upon_o it_o as_o your_o helper_n and_o have_v a_o raise_v firm_a expectation_n without_o waver_v of_o its_o help_n as_o the_o apostle_n say_v 2_o tim._n 4.18_o the_o lord_n shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o every_o evil_a work_n and_o
