will_v receive_v it_o this_o be_v my_o body_n and_o my_o blood_n to_o every_o faithful_a receiver_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n be_v at_o hand_n to_o make_v good_a unto_o they_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n and_o all_o his_o merit_n the_o same_o spirit_n that_o be_v in_o christ_n when_o he_o perform_v the_o office_n of_o our_o redemption_n be_v in_o and_o at_o the_o sacrament_n to_o distrustful_a that_o christ_n body_n be_v not_o enough_o for_o we_o here_o be_v his_o blood_n too_o have_v we_o taste_v of_o the_o bread_n and_o of_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n &_o find_v little_a or_o no_o relish_n in_o it_o they_o the_o minister_n come_v present_o to_o give_v we_o the_o wine_n that_o by_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o wine_n he_o may_v quicken_v we_o to_o the_o better_a sense_n of_o the_o bread_n last_o do_v we_o find_v joy_n and_o comfort_n in_o the_o bread_n bless_v god_n for_o it_o but_o that_o be_v not_o all_o see_v we_o find_v this_o comfort_n in_o the_o bread_n he_o give_v we_o the_o wine_n too_o that_o so_o our_o joy_n may_v be_v full_a in_o every_o respect_n to_o our_o heart_n desire_n this_o be_v the_o bountiful_a goodness_n of_o christ_n jesus_n that_o have_v participation_n of_o the_o sacrament_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n the_o next_o sabbath_n day_n we_o be_v now_o to_o meditate_v upon_o some_o argument_n fit_v for_o that_o purpose_n and_o to_o proceed_v in_o that_o text_n we_o begin_v in_o namely_o 1_o cor._n 11.26_o for_o as_o oft_o as_o you_o shall_v eat_v this_o bread_n and_o drink_v this_o cup_n you_o show_v the_o lord_n death_n till_o he_o come_v the_o text_n you_o may_v remember_v we_o divide_v into_o two_o part_n first_o here_o be_v a_o action_n to_o be_v perform_v in_o the_o former_a part_n of_o the_o verse_n the_o receive_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n second_o here_o be_v a_o caution_n that_o this_o action_n be_v to_o be_v perform_v withal_o and_o that_o be_v in_o the_o latter_a part_n of_o the_o verse_n you_o show_v the_o lord_n death_n till_o he_o come_v concern_v the_o action_n in_o the_o former_a part_n of_o the_o verse_n we_o note_v two_o thing_n first_o the_o part_n of_o the_o action_n to_o eat_v this_o bread_n and_o drink_v this_o cup._n second_o the_o frequent_v of_o the_o action_n in_o this_o clause_n as_o oft_o as_o you_o eat_v this_o bread_n and_o drink_v this_o cup_n etc._n etc._n it_o be_v to_o be_v do_v and_o it_o be_v to_o be_v frequent_v or_o do_v often_o of_o the_o part_n of_o this_o action_n we_o have_v speak_v before_o wherein_o we_o note_v first_o that_o the_o nature_n and_o benefit_n of_o the_o sacrament_n consist_v in_o the_o use_n of_o the_o sacrament_n because_o the_o apostle_n describe_v the_o sacrament_n by_o the_o use_n of_o it_o second_o we_o note_v that_o the_o bread_n and_o wine_n the_o element_n that_o be_v use_v in_o the_o sacrament_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n they_o be_v call_v by_o their_o own_o name_n after_o the_o word_n of_o blessing_n and_o therefore_o for_o substance_n they_o be_v the_o same_o creature_n as_o before_o three_o they_o be_v as_o i_o show_v set_v forth_o by_o a_o note_n of_o excellency_n this_o bread_n and_o this_o wine_n though_o in_o regard_n of_o their_o nature_n they_o be_v the_o same_o yet_o in_o regard_n of_o their_o use_n they_o be_v more_o excellent_a than_o any_o other_o last_o he_o couple_n they_o together_o as_o oft_o as_o you_o shall_v eat_v this_o bread_n and_o drink_v this_o cup_n thence_o we_o note_v that_o the_o sacrament_n be_v not_o to_o be_v administer_v in_o one_o kind_n only_o but_o in_o both_o in_o the_o bread_n and_o in_o the_o wine_n and_o not_o in_o the_o bread_n without_o the_o wine_n nor_o in_o wine_n without_o the_o bread_n and_o so_o much_o of_o the_o part_n of_o this_o action_n the_o other_o branch_n follow_v namely_o the_o frequent_v or_o often_o performance_n of_o the_o action_n in_o these_o word_n as_o oft_o as_o you_o shall_v eat_v this_o bread_n and_o drink_v this_o cup_n whereby_o be_v give_v we_o to_o understand_v that_o as_o this_o action_n of_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n be_v to_o be_v perform_v so_o it_o be_v to_o be_v frequent_v and_o oft_o perform_v we_o must_v eat_v this_o bread_n and_o drink_v this_o cup_n and_o that_o ofttimes_o it_o may_v appear_v by_o the_o circumstance_n of_o the_o text_n that_o this_o church_n of_o corinth_n to_o who_o the_o apostle_n write_v this_o epistle_n that_o they_o do_v usual_o in_o most_o of_o their_o church-assembly_n and_o meeting_n if_o not_o in_o all_o communicate_v in_o the_o sacrament_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n for_o the_o apostle_n in_o the_o 17._o and_o 18._o verse_n tell_v they_o of_o thing_n general_o amiss_o in_o the_o church_n and_o in_o the_o 20._o verse_n he_o give_v instance_n in_o this_o particular_a namely_o in_o the_o matter_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n mark_v the_o word_n when_o you_o come_v together_o therefore_o into_o one_o place_n this_o be_v not_o to_o eat_v the_o lord_n supper_n the_o word_n do_v sound_a to_o this_o effect_n that_o usual_o when_o the_o corinthian_n come_v together_o in_o the_o church-assembly_n they_o do_v eat_v the_o lord_n supper_n howsoever_o they_o do_v much_o misdemeane_n and_o miscarry_v themselves_o in_o this_o holy_a action_n that_o they_o do_v not_o carry_v themselves_o so_o to_o god_n glory_n norwith_o reverence_n to_o his_o ordinance_n nor_o with_o that_o profit_n and_o comfort_n to_o themselves_o and_o love_n to_o their_o brethren_n as_o they_o ought_v to_o do_v because_o they_o receive_v it_o disorderly_o one_o before_o another_o yet_o notwithstanding_o for_o the_o matter_n of_o receive_v that_o be_v usual_a among_o they_o the_o apostle_n take_v this_o for_o a_o thing_n grant_v that_o when_o they_o come_v together_o they_o do_v eat_v else_o the_o consequence_n have_v be_v to_o no_o purpose_n but_o speak_v general_o of_o their_o assembly_n &_o churchmeeting_n he_o speak_v of_o the_o eat_n of_o the_o sacrament_n as_o a_o thing_n usual_a in_o most_o of_o they_o if_o not_o in_o all_o and_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o the_o apostle_n fall_v into_o the_o mention_n of_o the_o frequent_v of_o this_o action_n as_o oft_o as_o you_o eat_v this_o bread_n and_o drink_v this_o cup_n etc._n etc._n which_o yet_o we_o must_v take_v heed_n that_o we_o understand_v it_o not_o only_o as_o a_o bare_a mention_n of_o a_o thing_n do_v by_o the_o church_n of_o corinth_n that_o they_o do_v eat_v and_o drink_v oft_o as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v they_o do_v so_o indeed_o but_o whether_o it_o be_v well_o do_v or_o ill_o do_v it_o make_v no_o matter_n the_o circumstance_n of_o the_o text_n give_v we_o better_o light_n to_o see_v by_o for_o our_o resolution_n herein_o and_o we_o may_v therein_o discern_v these_o three_o thing_n first_o that_o it_o be_v not_o a_o thing_n amiss_o that_o they_o do_v so_o yea_o further_o that_o it_o be_v well_o do_v yea_o three_o that_o it_o be_v a_o duty_n of_o necessity_n for_o they_o and_o all_o the_o faithful_a to_o communicate_v in_o first_o that_o it_o be_v not_o a_o thing_n amiss_o among_o they_o for_o if_o it_o have_v certain_o the_o apostle_n will_v have_v reprove_v they_o for_o it_o as_o he_o do_v for_o other_o abuse_n especial_o see_v he_o take_v upon_o he_o to_o reprove_v and_o reform_v such_o abuse_n as_o be_v creep_v into_o the_o matter_n of_o the_o sacrament_n they_o do_v this_o and_o oft_o frequent_v the_o participation_n of_o the_o sacrament_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n if_o so_o be_v that_o it_o have_v be_v a_o thing_n amiss_o the_o apostle_n of_o purpose_n reprove_v thing_n amiss_o he_o will_v have_v reprove_v this_o but_o see_v he_o reprove_v it_o not_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o ill_o do_v second_o the_o text_n make_v it_o clear_a that_o it_o be_v well_o do_v and_o it_o be_v speak_v by_o way_n of_o commendation_n for_o the_o apostle_n build_v a_o precept_n upon_o this_o practice_n of_o they_o
