itself_o theophilus_n that_o say_v that_o the_o scripture_n be_v sufficient_o able_a to_o convince_v man_n of_o its_o divine_a authority_n by_o the_o witness_n it_o can_v give_v to_o itself_o or_o to_o use_v their_o own_o metaphorical_a expression_n by_o the_o resplendency_n of_o its_o own_o light_n so_o that_o he_o do_v enough_o in_o order_n to_o his_o believe_v it_o to_o be_v god_n word_n that_o do_v but_o acquaint_v himself_o with_o the_o content_n thereof_o which_o i_o think_v follow_v from_o that_o opinion_n theoph._n if_o these_o understand_v what_o they_o say_v there_o be_v no_o difference_n betwixt_o they_o and_o we_o for_o the_o miracle_n and_o goodness_n of_o the_o doctrine_n we_o prove_v the_o scripture_n authority_n by_o we_o fetch_v only_o out_o of_o the_o scripture_n themselves_o and_o therefore_o suppose_v we_o believe_v the_o matter_n of_o fact_n therein_o write_v we_o say_v as_o they_o do_v that_o we_o need_v no_o argument_n to_o prove_v they_o divine_a but_o what_o be_v therein_o include_v but_o if_o their_o meaning_n be_v as_o by_o their_o manner_n of_o express_v themselves_o one_o will_v think_v it_o shall_v that_o there_o be_v such_o a_o light_n in_o scripture_n as_o immediate_o operate_v upon_o man_n mind_n as_o proper_a light_n do_v on_o the_o optic_a nerve_n there_o can_v be_v nothing_o say_v more_o inconsiderate_o for_o man_n understanding_n can_v discern_v the_o truth_n of_o thing_n by_o immediate_a intuition_n but_o only_o in_o a_o discursive_a manner_n that_o be_v by_o such_o reason_n and_o argument_n as_o persuade_v to_o assent_v james_n not_o to_o contradict_v s._n paul_n they_o say_v that_o justify_v faith_n must_v be_v a_o work_a obediential_a faith_n yet_o as_o it_o justify_v must_v be_v consider_v as_o distinct_a from_o justification_n and_o that_o not_o without_o cause_n s._n paul_n tell_v we_o gal._n 5._o 6._o that_o neither_o circumcision_n nor_o uncircumcision_n avail_v any_o thing_n he_o mean_v especial_o as_o consequent_a of_o deliverance_n from_o sin_n and_o therefore_o faith_n in_o christ_n blood_n must_v needs_o justify_v as_o it_o design_n obtain_v this_o as_o well_o as_o that_o theoph._n your_o argument_n will_v rather_o prove_v more_o than_o that_o for_o which_o you_o bring_v it_o viz._n that_o if_o those_o act_n of_o faith_n be_v at_o all_o to_o be_v distinguish_v in_o the_o business_n
