and_o it_o have_v a_o strict_a and_o severe_a command_n over_o their_o conscience_n now_o this_o i_o say_v be_v rather_o a_o temptation_n to_o doubt_v of_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n word_n in_o their_o soul_n than_o a_o real_a and_o positive_a doubt_n the_o devil_n
unto_o several_a truth_n which_o be_v in_o the_o word_n provide_v 1._o that_o thou_o assente_v to_o all_o truth_n that_o be_v necessary_o to_o be_v believe_v to_o salvation_n and_o the_o foundation_n of_o faith_n 2._o provide_v thou_o strive_v against_o other_o doubt_n and_o labour_v to_o get_v a_o sense_n of_o faith_n and_o a_o strength_n to_o resist_v the_o devil_n temptation_n and_o to_o be_v with_o the_o eye_n of_o his_o faith_n and_o do_v not_o come_v near_o they_o with_o the_o foot_n of_o his_o reason_n but_o if_o once_o he_o draw_v near_o with_o those_o earthy_a foot_n to_o they_o they_o seem_v very_o dark_a and_o thus_o i_o have_v show_v you_o what_o doubt_v a_o christian_n may_v meet_v withal_o in_o relation_n to_o his_o assent_n what_o weakness_n may_v be_v incident_a to_o it_o and_o consistent_a with_o it_o though_o argue_v imperfection_n and_o weakness_n 1._o he_o may_v doubt_v whether_o he_o do_v assent_n or_o or_o no_o and_o yet_o at_o that_o time_n true_o assent_v and_o close_v with_o the_o word_n of_o truth_n 2._o he_o may_v doubt_v whether_o the_o scripture_n be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n or_o no_o or_o at_o least_o may_v be_v tempt_v to_o doubt_v and_o there_o i_o have_v give_v some_o mark_n by_o which_o a_o christian_a may_v distinguish_v a_o temptation_n to_o doubt_v from_o a_o real_a doubt_v proceed_v from_o unbelief_n 3._o he_o may_v doubt_v concern_v some_o particular_a truth_n in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o through_o ignorance_n or_o weakness_n not_o full_o assent_v to_o they_o and_o yet_o full_o close_a with_o the_o word_n so_o far_o as_o be_v reveal_v to_o he_o 4._o he_o may_v doubt_v concern_v the_o meaning_n of_o this_o or_o that_o portion_n of_o scripture_n and_o dissent_v from_o the_o ordinary_o receive_v truth_n of_o it_o and_o yet_o true_o assent_v to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n yea_o he_o may_v mistake_v a_o scripture_n and_o hold_v that_o as_o a_o truth_n from_o that_o scripture_n upon_o his_o mistake_n which_o be_v indeed_o a_o error_n and_o yet_o save_o assent_v to_o the_o word_n of_o truth_n so_o it_o be_v not_o in_o necessary_a fundamental_o last_o he_o may_v not_o clear_o by_o a_o evidence_n of_o reason_n or_o a_o direct_a and_o distinct_a evidence_n of_o faith_n assent_n unto_o several_a truth_n which_o be_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o true_o assent_v unto_o the_o word_n thus_o you_o see_v true_a faith_n may_v consist_v with_o much_o weakness_n and_o doubt_v as_o with_o much_o imperfection_n and_o ignorance_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o require_a knowledge_n so_o with_o much_o imperfection_n and_o doubt_v in_o relation_n to_o the_o act_n of_o assent_n make_v use_n of_o this_o to_o see_v god_n goodness_n that_o will_v take_v such_o sacrifice_n at_o our_o hand_n not_o to_o from_o his_o eye_n to_o see_v that_o now_o for_o believe_v those_o promise_n where_o flesh_n and_o sense_n have_v a_o share_n and_o a_o present_a share_n the_o soul_n will_v find_v it_o hard_o for_o though_o the_o flesh_n will_v never_o help_v the_o soul_n in_o rely_v and_o rest_v upon_o any_o promise_n yet_o it_o will_v hinder_v the_o soul_n very_o much_o and_o very_o often_o i_o appeal_v to_o any_o of_o you_o whether_o you_o have_v not_o find_v it_o a_o easy_a thing_n to_o rely_v upon_o a_o promise_n for_o salvation_n and_o strengthen_n and_o quicken_a grace_n which_o mere_o concern_v the_o soul_n then_o when_o you_o have_v be_v in_o some_o bodily_a strait_n you_o have_v find_v it_o to_o rely_v upon_o the_o promise_n for_o succour_n and_o support_v and_o deliverance_n as_o take_v a_o marry_a man_n that_o have_v a_o mind_n to_o the_o war_n possible_o the_o man_n be_v a_o very_a valiant_a and_o courageous_a man_n and_o value_v his_o life_n at_o as_o cheap_a a_o rate_n as_o any_o but_o his_o wife_n cry_v and_o keep_v a_o stir_n that_o if_o he_o be_v single_a though_o the_o design_n be_v the_o same_o and_o the_o danger_n the_o same_o yet_o he_o find_v it_o ten_o time_n more_o hard_a then_o if_o he_o be_v to_o go_v a_o single_a man_n so_o the_o soul_n marry_v to_o the_o body_n be_v ten_o time_n more_o trouble_v to_o close_v with_o a_o promise_n and_o venture_v into_o thicket_n of_o a_o danger_n by_o the_o bawl_n and_o fearing_n of_o the_o flesh_n than_o it_o will_v be_v if_o it_o be_v to_o act_v single_a in_o statu_fw-la separato_fw-la or_o then_o it_o do_v when_o
