that_o phrase_n the_o son_n of_o god_n be_v use_v in_o scripture_n but_o what_o its_o sense_n and_o mean_v be_v in_o such_o place_n of_o scripture_n as_o i_o before_o speak_v of_o the_o reasonableness_n etc._n etc._n neither_o treat_n of_o our_o saviour_n divinity_n nor_o inquire_v how_o many_o thing_n christian_n must_v endeavour_v to_o know_v and_o then_o believe_v concern_v messiah_n in_o john_n 20._o 31._o but_o these_o thing_n be_v write_v that_o you_o may_v believe_v that_o jesus_n be_v the_o christ_n the_o son_n of_o god_n etc._n etc._n because_o the_o design_n of_o st._n john_n gospel_n be_v to_o assert_v the_o divinity_n of_o christ_n against_o those_o that_o oppose_v it_o now_o if_o those_o phrase_n mean_v only_o the_o same_o then_o st._n john_n himself_o do_v god_n denote_v something_o beside_o our_o saviour_n divinity_n or_o be_v god_n in_o those_o place_n of_o scripture_n where_o it_o be_v use_v for_o the_o proof_n of_o that_o point_n but_o st._n john_n be_v not_o give_v a_o account_n in_o this_o passage_n chap._n 20._o 31._o of_o his_o whole_a design_n in_o write_v that_o gospel_n but_o of_o the_o reason_n why_o he_o do_v so_o large_o relate_v the_o sign_n and_o miracle_n which_o christ_n do_v which_o sign_n and_o miracle_n do_v not_o prove_v any_o thing_n more_o direct_o and_o immediate_o than_o that_o he_o be_v the_o messiah_n thus_o the_o christ_n and_o the_o son_n of_o god_n seem_v here_o to_o signify_v the_o same_o in_o p._n 73._o this_o author_n say_v that_o what_o may_v be_v sufficient_a to_o denominate_v a_o man_n a_o believer_n reason_n we_o have_v to_o defend_v divine_a truth_n when_o oppose_v and_o deny_v by_o person_n be_v not_o to_o be_v take_v bare_o from_o the_o end_n for_o which_o they_o be_v to_o be_v believe_v but_o nay_o according_a to_o this_o notion_n it_o may_v be_v just_o question_v whether_o ever_o there_o be_v a_o christian_a since_o the_o apostle_n day_n for_o there_o may_v be_v ground_n to_o question_n whether_o any_o uninspired_a man_n do_v or_o will_v attain_v to_o a_o just_a and_o adequate_a knowledge_n of_o every_o thing_n the_o scripture_n do_v reveal_v concern_v christ._n but_o it_o will_v probable_o be_v object_v say_v this_o author_n to_o all_o this_o that_o though_o it_o be_v grant_v that_o there_o be_v several_a article_n to_o be_v believe_v by_o those_o who_o be_v thorough_a christian_n yet_o there_o be_v no_o more_o require_v by_o our_o saviour_n himself_o or_o his_o apostle_n to_o make_v a_o man_n a_o christian_n or_o in_o order_n to_o his_o admission_n into_o christianity_n than_o the_o believe_a jesus_n to_o be_v the_o messiah_n and_o that_o this_o be_v all_o which_o the_o author_n of_o the_o reasonableness_n of_o christianity_n etc._n etc._n contend_v for_o the_o objection_n be_v not_o propose_v in_o its_o full_a weight_n but_o that_o i_o need_v not_o insist_v on_o for_o if_o the_o answer_v reach_v it_o as_o it_o be_v here_o lay_v down_o it_o that_o jesus_n be_v the_o messiah_n i_o agree_v with_o this_o author_n that_o a_o person_n be_v believe_v explicitly_a certain_a particular_a doctrine_n jesus_n have_v teach_v for_o this_o reason_n because_o he_o know_v that_o jesus_n who_o be_v the_o messiah_n have_v teach_v they_o be_v a_o repetition_n of_o his_o belief_n of_o that_o article_n the_o ground_n and_o reason_n of_o his_o believe_v every_o one_o of_o the_o other_o doctrine_n but_o if_o his_o believe_v certain_a particular_a doctrine_n be_v but_o a_o repetition_n of_o his_o believe_v that_o jesus_n be_v the_o messiah_n how_o
